2 Reasons Why We Uphold Akeredolu's Election - APC Reveals As Party Splits, 3 Top Aspirants Vow To Defect

oyegun apc
The All progressives Congress, APC through a statement signed by it national Secretary, Mai Mala Buni has revealed why it overrules the Appeal Panel Committee recommendation to nullify Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu's candidacy as the Ondo State's gubernatorial candidate.

The APC in the state dismissed the claims by some aggrieved aspirants that majority of the National working Committee member voted in favour to nullify the election.

The statement in part reads; “voting on the issue did not arise in view of the NWC’s rejection of the Appeal Committee’s report”. Buni also stated that the NWC took the decision to reject the recommendations of the Committee on two grounds.

Firstly, it lacked merit and secondly because of time. In a statement, the party said: “For the records, the National Working Committee (NWC) decision to reject the 2016 Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee Report was taken on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in executive session after careful and exhaustive deliberation. The minutes and rejection was confirmed by the NWC on Thursday, September 22, 2016.

The trio also took a swipe at the leadership of the APC over its refusal to implement the report of the Appeal Committee of the party, which recommended the nullification of the primary election that produced Akeredolu as the candidate of the party.

The aspirants including Dr. Segun Abraham who came second, Chief Olusola Oke and Prof Robert Ajayi Boroffice who came third and fourth respectively ruled out the possibility of supporting Akeredolu to win the November 26 governorship election in the state, while threatening to dump the party for a new platform in order to contest the forthcoming election.

Addressing reporters at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) press centre in Akure, the state capital, the aspirants condemned the Na-tional Chairman, Chief John Oyegun for his “undemocratic behavior” by overruling the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC).

Boroffice who spoke on behalf of the other aggrieved aspirants said they are already consulting with their people and would soon make public their next line of action that would liberate the people from the present state of hopelessness and despair.

“The appeal committee within the mandate of their authority having regards to the preponderance of evidence laid before it recommended that the election be nullified and another election be conducted. “The majority of the members of the NWC voted that the recommendations of the appeal committee be upheld. To our dismay and in a manner at variance with democratic norms, the National Chairman overruled the majority of the NWC.

“He rejected the path of truth and upheld the primary election that it’s process was charcterised with corruption. Let it be known that we are not deterred by the action of the NWC and the undemocratic behaviour of the chairman.

“We are encouraged by the genuine desire of the people of Ondo State for a change that will free them from the economic captivity of the present administration in the state. ” We are determine to liberate our people and no undemocratic decision of a party and its leadership would be allowed to misdirect our attention from the goal.

We condemn in absolute terms the undemocratic decision of the NWC. “Since our party and the official leaders of the party have found pleasure in covering fraud, we owe the people of Ondo State a sacred duty of liberation. This we are committed to and this we shall do. ”

In the days ahead, we shall consult widely and make public the next line of action that will liberate our people from the present state of hopelessness and despair On the plan to dump the party, Boroffice said, “the people of the state will determine what our next decision would be. On his part, Oke said: ” We are still examining the situation, if we get to the bridge we will cross it.

We have no personal position. We will come out later with a clean and clear position within the shortest period of time. “I have not moved out of APC when I am ready I will shout it and address the press.

How APC Chairman Oyegun 'Sneaked' Akeredolu's Name To INEC Despite NWC Decision To Nullify It

Chief John Odigie Oyegun,

Fresh report according to The Nation has revealed how the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Chief John Odigie Oyegun, overruled the majority decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) for a fresh primary to pick the party’s governorship candidate for the November 26 election in Ondo State, it was learnt yesterday.

The party’s Appeal Committee, headed by Mrs Helen Bendega, recommended the cancellation of the disputed primary which produced Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) and a fresh primary.

After meeting for three days, sources said the 12-member NWC failed to reach a consensus. It decided to vote on the outcome. The 13th member of the body elected not to participate.

The two motions voted on are:

It was learnt that six members voted to uphold the recommendation of the Appeal Panel, which is a fresh primary. Five members voted to upturn the report of the panel and retain Akeredolu as candidate.

But, contrary to the normal procedure that the chairman could only cast a deciding vote in the event of a tie, Oyegun decided to overrule the majority decision already reached by six members.

He reportedly forwarded Akeredolu’s name to INEC as the party’s candidate.

“A majority of the NWC members had taken a decision with their votes. What the chairman did was to overrule the majority and force his opinion on the majority,” one of the NWC members, who pleaded not be named, said.

The appeal panel, which examined the petitions against the governorship primary, recommended its cancellation.

Panel Chairman and Secretary signed the recommendations while the third member did not authenticate it.

The Appeal panel made its recommendation based on the corruption of the delegates list. It also observed that there was evidence that non-party members were recruited to vote.

National Organising Secretary Osita Izunaso, was accused of “colluding to manipulate the delegates’ list. He was also alleged to have provided extra tags to non-delegates to vote.”

Former Gov. Senator Dariye Defects To APC, Shrinks PDP Status At The Senate

Joshua Dariye
The Senator representing Plateau Central, Joshua Dariye, on Thursday announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after the Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki read the letter of the Senator’s defection on the floor of the Senate.

Dariye who moved from the PDP to the Labour Party and back to PDP and now APC said that his decision to leave the PDP was informed by the protracted division at the national level of PDP.

His words: “After due consultation with my constituency, I write to notify you of my intention to cross over from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“My decision is informed by the protracted division at the national level of the PDP that led to the massive movement of my supporters to APC. Arising from this, I therefore write to formerly inform you of my decision to go along with my supporters. I thank you for your understanding”

With the defection of Dariye, APC now has 59 senators, PDP has 43 senators while Labour Party has one.

Elated Saraki commended Dariye for his action to leave the PDP.

AKEREDOLU: APC Leaders Back Fresh Primary In Ondo

Rotimi Akeredolu
The Nation - The All Progressives Congress (APC) Council of Local Government Chairmen in Ondo state on Thursday debunked the report that they supported the ‘disputed’ September 3 primary election won by Mr Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN).

Earlier in the week, a newspaper advertorial was published in a national daily signed by 13 APC local government chairmen upholding the outcome of the Primary election.

However, members of the group in its majority have now thrown their weight behind the recommendation on cancellation by the Appeal committee.

Besides, the Conference of the 203 ward chairmen in all the 18 local government areas in the state have also aligned with the cancellation, describing it “as against the party’s anti-corruption stance”.

They expressed confidence in the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to ratify the recommendation soon.

The statement by the party chairmen after its meeting said “We, the undersigned members of Council of Local Government Chairmen, have come across a spurious and bogus advertorial of resolutions made pursuant to the recently concluded Ondo State gubernatorial primary election on page 32 of The Nation, Monday, September 19, by one Mr. Rasheed Badmus.

“We note that at the Council’s meeting on Friday, September 16, the Council meeting neither deliberated on the recent governorship primary election held on September 3 nor did the Council conclude to stand by the outcome of the said primary election.

“We therefore disassociate this Council and its undersigned members from the said resolutions as contained in the spurious publication and condemn it as not our deeds.

“We restate that the issue of whether the APC Ondo State governorship primary election is free, fair and credible and the validity or otherwise of the election of Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, as the Candidate of the Party in the State is for the determination of Ondo State Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee and we resolve to stand by the decision of the Appeal Committee on the primary election.

“We affirm that majority of the people of Ondo State stand by the decision of the Appeal Committee and are prepared for a rerun of the primary election as recommended.

“This is evident in the mood of dark cloud cast on Ondo State since the announcement of Akeredolu as the Candidate of the Party in the State, and the jubilant scenes that met the announcement of annulment on Monday.”

The Party Chairmen advised the NWC to speed up action on the implementation of the recommendation of the Appeal Committee, describing it as “the only sure way of guaranteeing peace, justice and due process of law to guarantee victory for the APC in the November 26 poll.

According to the statement “the only issue tabled for discussion at the Council’s meeting was the resolution of the pending litigation in the Federal High Court, Akure Division in respect of the purported removal from office of the APC Ondo State Chairman, Isaac Kekemeke.

APC Party leaders that signed the statement on behalf of the entire group include Tito Babalola (Akoko North East), Akintunde Olainukan (Ondo East), O. Olumide (Ilaje), Chief. Akeremale (Okitipupa), and Z.O Omoge (Irele).

Others are Dauda Bolakale (Akoko South West),Oluwasaanu Ogunbi (Akoko South East), Alhaji Rauf Gbadeyan(Odigbo), A. Adefulire (Ile Oluji/ Oke-igbo) and J. A Oredola (Ose).

In their own statement, the 18 chairmen of the 203 wards in the entire 18 local government areas of the state also expressed support for the recommendation of the Appeal Committee through a signed statement by their leader, Chief James Olumide Kolawole, in Akure.

According to the statement, the ward chairmen said “As true party leaders in our own rights, we respect the petitions that have been written to the Electoral Appeal Committee, seeking redress as touching the many irregularities that blighted the said gubernatorial primary election”.

“We are confident in the party’s internal mechanism, the NEC, and the Electoral Appeal Committee set up by our party to give a verdict in the coming days, that will be consistent with the stance of integrity that our great party stands for.

“It is to this end that we respect and back the recommendation given by the Appeal Committee, and we hereby, in earnest but patiently, await and will stand by the official outcome from the deliberations of our National Working Committee, and we dissociate ourselves from any desperate move aimed at jettisoning that process.”

One of the LGA Chairmen from Akoko North East, Mr. Tito Babalola, in a separate statement assured the party members and the people of Ondo that the APC will come out stronger from the present impasse and take over the governance in the state.

He said, “We are sure that our great party in Ondo state will come out more united from this phase, and we will rescue the state from the clueless clutches of the incumbent pseudo-government mismanaging the resources of the sunshine state”.

EXCLUSIVE: Angry Buhari Shops For New SGF, Chief Of Staff; You'll Be Shocked At Their Offences

Exclusive: Angry Buhari Shops For New SGF, Chief Of Staff; You'll Be Shocked At Their Offences
Frontier News - Strong indications have emerged that President Muhammadu Buhari is under intense pressure to sack his Chief of Staff, Mr. Abba Kyari and the secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Mr. Babachir Lawal, over what they described as gross incompetence and lack of administrative efficiency.

Our correspondent gathered that top All Progressive Congress (APC) top leaders, as well as close associates of President Buhari are putting pressure on him to relieve the two principal officers of their job so that the APC led-government can find its footing in the present economic and political crisis.

Our correspondent gathered that party leaders have accused Kyari of been a stumbling block to the effective and smooth running of government especially in preventing memos from ministers and heads of agencies from reaching the president at the desired time.

“Its unfortunate that the Chief of Staff to the president keeps files from ministries in his office for months without allowing the president see them. We can not understand why he does it. Files that shouldn’t have taken more than 24 hours to reach the president sometimes spend three months without getting the president’s attention. This is one key reason while the government business is not moving accordingly. This has greatly helped in slowing down the activities of government and this is definitely not good for the government,” a top party leader told Frontiersnews.

Investigations revealed that President Buhari is having challenges over Kyari and Lawal’s issues as he confessed to friends and political leaders that he was finding it difficult to change Kyari because he had not seen a more competent hand to takeover the office.

“The issue of the chief of staff is a personal one. He is a personal staff and I have to be careful who I appoint as Chief of Staff. I wouldn’t want to hand over that office to just anybody but somebody that I know and who is competent,” the President was said to have confessed to close associates and key party leaders.

Our correspondent’s investigations revealed that despite hoarding files and preventing ministers and heads of agencies from seeing the president, Mr. Kyari is also in the habit of usurping the responsibilities of the SGF, head of the civil service of the federation (HCSOF), ministers and heads of agencies.

He has been accused of single handedly appointing boards of agencies and other key political appointments in the country.

“Ministers are very unhappy because Kyari is the one doing their jobs. He appoints boards and key appointments in agencies and parastatals without consulting the concerned ministers. The unfortunate thing about the whole thing is that they do not have the spin to challenge him or report the matter to the president. This is very worrisome and unhealthy for the government,” the party source said.

The source, who spoke to our correspondent, on the condition of anonymity said “even the SGF and the HCSOF cannot challenge Kyari. He is infact acting as if he is the president and nobody is calling him to order. He can do anything and act the way he wants without consulting anybody and nothing will happen.”

In the case of the SGF, our correspondent gathered that party leaders are also complaining that he doesn’t have the requisite experience to handle the critical challenges that the office require, especially at this time in the life of the nation.

“The government needs a vibrant, articulate and a more experienced SGF at this time. Lawal cannot handle the challenges of the moment. This is a critical time in the life of the nation and somebody who is charismatic, experienced and one with a vast knowledge of the economy should be in charge. Lawal cannot handle what is presently facing the Nigeria,” the source stated.

Southwest May Pull Out Of APC As Tinubu-Buhari Feud Worsens

Southwest May Pull Out Of APC As Tinubu-Buhari Feud Worsens
247Ureports - The lingering effects resulting from the failed agreement reached between the then All Progressive Congress [APC] presidential aspirant, Mohammadu Buhari and the then godfather of APC, Bola Tinubu during the buildup to the 2015 Presidential elections threatens to be the undoing of the ruling party, if the information available to 247ureports.com is correct.

According to the information, the relationship between the godfather of modern politics in the south west, Tinubu and the President of the federation, Buhari has continued on a steady nose dive since the swearing-in of the president as the President of the federation.

The recent refusal of the President to make joint political appearances with Bola Tinubu at the various gubernatorial campaigns across the country is reported by our source as symptomatic of the deep divide between the two gentlemen. The recent rejection of Tinubu’s candidate in Ondo State is considered by the Tinubu group to be the direct workings of the President to truncate the powers and influence of Bola Tinubu in the south west region.

In Ondo State gubernatorial race, two of APC senators from the south west region jointly worked against the appointed aspirant of the Tinubu group – to defeat him in an embarrassing manner. Another aspirant emerged against the wishes of the ‘jagaban of south west politics’.

The incident comes on the heels of the Kogi State debacle for the Tinubu group who had expected for their candidate to become the governor of Kogi State following the death of Audu – who was the gubernatorial candidate under APC. Tinubu had expected for his ‘boy’ [James Abiodun Faleke] to have taken over after the death of Audu. Tinubu’s boy was the running mate to Audu. The events turned out to not favor Tinubu as he had anticipated. Our source indicated that he ran to the President for assistance with the situation in Kogi – but the President was clear in his wanting not to influence the outcome of the Kogi elections and decisions of the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC]. Tinubu was not pleased.

The President’s refusal to come to the aide of Tinubu did not come as surprising to the Tinubu folks who already saw the President make an about-turn over agreements reached before the APC presidential primaries – which Tinubu ensured was skewed favorable for a Buhari victory.

According to our source, Buhari reneged on the agreements reached with Tinubu as the precondition to victory at the presidential primaries. Buhari was to allocate six [6] ministerial positions to Tinubu, the senate president and speaker of the house of representatives, and the vice presidential slot. Buhari accented to the vice presidential slot. But the President turned away from the remainder items. Our source indicates that Tinubu believes that Buhari utilized Atiku to ensure the agreement was breached at the Senate and at the House of representatives. On the ministerial slots, the President was reported to select for Tinubu to fill the six slots reserved for him. He made the choice for Tinubu. When Tinubu discovered that Buhari had virtually picked his ache enemies, he protested vehemently but Buhari indicated it was too late.

The relationship continued to nosedive. Already Buhari had opted for former President Obasanjo as his thorough breed horse in the south west to replace Tinubu. Our source states that “he is more at home with Obasanjo than with Tinubu. He defers to Obasanjo on matters relating to the south west political block“. Obasanjo, reportedly, has been glad to step in the shoes of south west leader.

Governor Rochas Okorocha with former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Gov. Badaru Abubakar Monmni of Jigawa State (right).

Tinubu on his part has begun to face the reality of what may become of 2019 – as per the continued relevance of the south west in national politics. To this, according to our source, the Jagaban has initiated many closed door and/or midnight meetings with special stakeholders across party lines in the south west block. 247ureports.com is not certain as to the aims and objective of the ongoing gatherings and meetings but a usually credible source revealed that the meetings were largely gatherings of political financiers, monarchs and outright politicians who are aggrieved with the current treatment of the south west in the present administration.

The source while explaining that the south west had been neglected – pointed out the open disparity in the manner some APC campaign had been handled. In the Kogi State gubernatorial exercise, he stated that President Buhari did not make a campaign stop but Tinubu did. In Bayesla State gubernatorial exercise, President Buhari did not campaign stop but Tinubu did. But in the ongoing gubernatorial exercise in Edo State, President Buhari made a campaign stop but Tinubu did not. The source pointed to the pattern as symptomatic of a great problem within the party.

“They have divided the APC and they know which part belongs to who and who. In a short time we may find out“.

ONDO Guber: Akeredolu Gets Reprieve As APC NWC REJECTS Panel's Report

ONDO Guber: Akeredolu Gets Reprieve As APC NWC REJECTS Panel's Report
New Telegraph - The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the report of the Appeal Panel Committee on the Ondo State governorship primaries.

Impeccable sources told New Telegraph that while two members of the three-man panel recommended the cancellation of the primaries that produced Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu as governorship candidate of the party, a minority report upheld the primaries. Helen Bendega (chairman) and Musa Umar (Secretary) recommended the cancellation of the Ondo governorship primaries, but a member of the appeal panel, Nikky Eze, upheld the primary election.

Eze did not sign the report of the panel. The appeal committee has recommended a cancellation of the election and ordered that a fresh primary election be conducted among the aspirants as the gap between Akeredolu and others were minimal compared with the complaints of the swap of names on the delegates’ list.

In the report submitted to the NWC of the party, which was discussed yesterday without conclusions, the committee stated that the election was manipulated from the delegates’ list to favour Akeredolu. It also said that the delegates’ list was manipulated and cannot be ignored by the party.

A copy of the report seen by New Telegraph read in parts: “Thus, in consideration of the above observed irregularities, and for the sake of equity and fair play, it is hereby recommended as follows: The election result should be cancelled; a rerun election should be ordered immediately in order to beat INEC’ s deadline.”

The party headquarters should consider reverting to the earlier delegates’ list which was distributed to aspirants when they came to Abuja shortly before the primaries.” It further recommended that a new or harmonised delegates’ list be compiled for the new primaries.

It added: “Delegates’ lists should not, as a policy, be released too late i.e. on the eve of elections, but much earlier, in order to give sufficient time for the smooth take off of elections and avoid being used in favour of oneaspirant.” The committee said that it premised the recommendations on the petitions submitted by six other aspirants who ran against Akeredolu.

At yesterday’s meeting, majority of the NWC members rubbished the panel’s report. To protest the rejection of the panel report, the South-West National Vice Chairman, Chief Pius Akinyeleru, was the first to leave the meeting. A member of the NWC told New Telegraph that the party leadership will, today, uphold the primaries.

The party’s national leadership yesterday adjourned its meeting held to consider the report till today. The meeting, which lasted for over three hours at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja, had all the NWC members in attendance.

The meeting was specifically held to consider the report of the Appeal Panel Committee on the Ondo governorship primaries conducted on September 3. Controversies have trailed the result of the governorship primaries won by Akeredolu (SAN). Akeredolu defeated Engr. Segun Abraham, the preferred candidate of the national leader of APC, Senator Bola Tinubu. Abraham, Olusola Oke and Senator Ajayi Borofice had petitioned the APC Appeal Panel Committee, headed by Mrs. Helen Benaga, alleging irregularities on the delegates’ list for the primaries.

However, in attendance at the meeting yesterday to review the report of the appeal panel were the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, two Deputy National Chairmen, South and North, Engr. Segun Oni and Senator Shuiabu Lawal respectively.

Others are the National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni; National Auditor, Chief George Moghalu; National Treasurer, Mohammed Gwagwarwa; National Organising Secretary, Senator Osita Izunaso; Deputy National Secretariat, Hon. Oji Ngofa and all the National Vice Chairmen of the party. Odigie-Oyegun stated after the meeting that it was adjourned to continue tomorrow (today). His position was corroborated by Izunaso.
