Drama, Dirty Brawl At Vanguard Discourse As Oshiomhole Exposed How Soludo Corruptly Enriched 2 Banks With N8b Forex Cash

Drama, Dirty Brawl At Vanguard Discourse As Oshiomhole Exposed How Soludo Corruptly Enriched 2 Banks With N8b Forex Cash

Vanguard Economic Discourse: Oshiomhole, Soludo Takesover
The Vanguard Economic Discourse in Lagos yesterday got to a climax where former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Charles Soludo, and the immediate past Governor of Edo State, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, made allegations and counter-allegations.

The development, which generated grumblings among the audience according to Punch Newspaper occurred during a discussion session moderated by the founding Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Guaranty Trust Bank, Mr. Fola Adeola.

Soludo, who delivered the keynote speech on the topic, ‘The hard facts to rescue the Nigerian economy’, had earlier highlighted some of the failures of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, particularly in terms of fiscal and monetary policies.

But in his remarks during the panel session, where the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, defended the government, Oshiomhole accused Soludo of wrongly allocating millions of dollars to two new generation banks shortly before the naira was devalued.

He said, “I got some intelligence from my comrades who worked in the system and we found out that the CBN under Soludo had just allocated couple of millions of dollars to two, as they were then known, new generation banks.

“And I asked Prof (Soludo), if you were going to devalue by Friday, why did you auction dollar at a lower rate on Thursday? I accused Soludo, I said you have enriched these two young men to the tune of N8bn, courtesy of your internal abuse.

“When the regulator behaved in this manner, then the Nigerian condition is much more serious than we can appreciate it. We need to deal with issues of attitude.”

However, this did not go down well with Soludo, as he said some people tend to change the subject when they did not have an answer to his earlier comment, a response that caused boisterous laughter and clapping by the audience.

He dismissed the allegation as a lie, insisting that  there was no such allocations to the banks as the lenders followed competitive bidding process.

He said that the CBN under his tenure built massive foreign reserves, and had allowed the exchange rate to adjust to market forces demands.

He said that Oshiomhole did not know the difference between devaluation and depreciation of the naira. He said  all the banks got equal chances during the bidding process.

Earlier in his keynote address, Soludo had said the country has many challenges, calling for all hands to be on the deck to resolve them.

“Nigeria economy is in a dire need of a rescue. The national budget is not working. We are still where we were since independence. Nigerians have been trusted to rescue the country. The continuous slide in oil prices and Niger Delta crisis are only a simple explanation of the ongoing economic problems. Nigeria seems to be moving in cycles since independence. Finally, the Federal Government has an economic recovery plan which is supposed to be government’s blueprint for rescuing the economy,” he said.

“I want to commend the effort, to be fair, the government inherited very bad economy. The previous government had unprecedented rate of debt accumulation even at a time of unexpected oil boom. The previous government was even depleting our foreign reserves instead of doubling what it met. It could have more than doubled the reserves, if it grew it by just 50 per cent,” he added.

Continuing, he said that when  President Muhammadu Buhari came to power, inflation was at nine per cent and has risen to about 19 per cent; exchange rate dropped from N197/ N205 to dollar  to N305/465 to dollar in the parallel market; unemployment rose from 7.5  per cent to 14 per cent while capital market capitalisation, business confidence and ease of doing business have also worsened.

Soludo said that foreign reserves have been depleted, current account balance negative, wages are declining, half-hearted commitment to deregulation of the petroleum industry.

“The domestic currency style, the economy is in recession, but in dollar terms, the economy has suffered a massive compression. The Gross Domestic Product has shrunk from $575 billion when the government came to power to $357 billion/$232 billion for parallel market rates. The value of the GDP has dropped by more than half. It will be a miracle for the government to return the GDP value to the level it met it,” he said.

Soludo, however, commended the government for plugging the loopholes in the economy. He said that government is inconsistent with plan for economic growth. The governments keep blaming themselves, and are busy chasing rats and losing the cows.

“Nigeria has refused to learn from the history from the booms and bursts cycles. Every government since 1970 has pursued diversification, but failed to pull it through,” he said.

Also speaking, Solid Minerals Development Minister  Kayode Fayemi, said the ugly trend in the economy started long ago, and that the present government cannot perform magic in fixing the economy.

“We are not going to perform magic in addressing the challenges facing the economy. But the people may not want to hear this. Our tax base is one of the lowest in Africa,” he said.

Oshiomhole alleged that Soludo priced money out of the reach of investors and had no reason to castigate government over present economic crisis.

“We need to raise the purchasing power of the average Nigerian. The problem with the public sector is not wages but fraud,” Oshiomhole said.

Former Managing Director, Diamond Bank Plc, Alex Otti, said it was wrong to bar 41 items from accessing forex from the official market because the importers will still find ways to fund the products.

Managing Director, Financial Derivatives Company Limited, Bismark Rewane, called for reform of the forex market to save the economy from collapse. He also called for the government to fix the lectoral process for the economy to recover.

Old Woman Buhar's Admirer Gifts Goat To The President In Benin
President Muhammadu Buhari got a unique gift of a goat during his just-concluded two-day official visit to Edo State.

The goat was said to have been presented to Buhari by an elderly lady, Egbon Grace, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress in Ward 7, Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.

A government official told journalists on the condition of anonymity on Wednesday that the lady said she had longed to meet the President to show her admiration for “his selfless lifestyle and passion to liberate the masses.”

The official said opportunity came for the lady on Monday when Buhari inaugurated the ultra-modern Samuel Ogbemudia College in Benin City.

“Lady Grace braced the odds and came all the way with her surprise gift to Mr. President which she had kept in waiting for the special occasion.

“She tore through the thick crowd, making her way straight to the President who at the time had finished the official engagement and was heading for his waiting car.

“Many in the crowd got emotional seeing the elderly lady pull through the crowd with the goat, determined to make a presentation to the President,” the source said.

The source added that Governor Adams Oshiomhole who noticed the security cordon between the lady and the President, alighted from the President’s convoy to receive the goat on behalf of the President.

He said Grace later had an opportunity to interact briefly with  Buhari and the Governor.

She was said to have thanked the President for accepting the gift which was handed over to protocol officials.

In his remarks on behalf of the President,  Oshiomhole commended  Grace for her kind gesture.

Fresh Rumbles In APC As Buhari ENDORSES Oshiomhole To Replace Oyegun As National Chairman

Fresh Rumbles In APC As Buhari ENDORSES Oshiomhole To Replace Oyegun As National Chairman

buhari oyegun oshiomhole
The Authority - As the lingering internal crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) threatens to splinter the party, the top hierarchy of the party has decided to sacrifice its national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

This tactical move to ease out the APC’s National Chairman is seen as an interim measure to stabilize the ruling party and save it from imploding.

It was learned from impeccable sources according to The Authority that the outgoing Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, whose second-term as governor ends on the 12th November, 2016, has been penciled down to replace embattled Oyegun as the party’s national chairman.

To firm up this ‘coup’ against Oyegun, which has the presidency’s backing, The AUTHORITY also scooped that President Muhammadu Buhari has agreed to a “face saving” ambassadorial position for the out-of-favour Oyegun.

Party Sources confirmed that, “there is no going back on the decision”. Rightly or wrongly, Oyegun who guided the APC to victory over the PDP has been accused of “killing” the party.

The choice of Comrade Oshiomhole stems from the fact that, like Oyegun, he is from the South-South geo-political zone - with the clincher that he has a solid labour background.

By a convenient coincidence for the APC, Oshiomhole’s tenure as governor will be ending in a matter of weeks.

Several party sources with knowledge about this development that The AUTHORITY sounded out hope that Oshiomhole will be able to build the APC into a formidable “populist” party, a “ party in every sense of the word.”

As a specific diversionary tactic and to create the condition necessary for the scripted scenario to play out, Oyegun is expected to ‘resign’ - a quirky, cloned template of PDP succession intrigues then.
It will be recalled that following the recent APC governorship primary election in Ondo State that produced a candidate who is not Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu’s choice, Tinubu openly called for Oyegun’s resignation, a position Oyegun dismissed out of hand.

According to a miffed Oyegun, “Yes, I agree that the nature of the statement was a bit harsh. The methods of getting rid of a national chairman, if that is what I will call it, are spelt out in the constitution; they don’t take place on the pages of newspapers.”

Although Tinubu and Oyegun shook hands and exchanged pleasantries during Buhari’s recent book launch in Abuja, their relationship appeared to have been irreparably damaged.

Apparently tipping the scale against Oyegun, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar recently expressed a public position which apparently backed Tinubu.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Timi Frank, also recently accused Oyegun of mismanaging the party, alleging that a lot of things have gone wrong in the APC because of Oyegun’s leadership style.

Frank, who described Oyegun as a political liability, said what APC needs is a leader who will add political value to the party. He also slammed Oyegun, saying he does not understand the constitution of the APC.

According to Frank, “This is the reason why I will continue to fight to ensure that the APC takes Nigeria to the right place but as long as Odigie-Oyegun remains as national chairman, we cannot achieve anything. Now that I am calling for his resignation, some may think it is personal, but it is not.

“We need a national chairman that will add political value to our party, we need a national chairman that can lead the party to victory during elections and we do not need a national chairman who will clearly be a political liability to this party as we head towards elections.
“We need a national chairman that will understand and follow due process in carrying out functions within the party. We need a chairman who understands the constitution in words and in deed.”

But cogent posers are already emerging that could affect the smoothness of this dodgy succession plot. The key question here is - would Oyegun who has the reputation of a plucky fighter agree to resign?

Already, the ruling party has unforeseen challenges replacing its national publicity secretary Lai Mohammed. The AUTHORITY gathered that the plan to replace him with former sports minister under President Goodluck Jonathan, Alhaji Bolaji Abdullahai, was aborted by forces opposed to the emerging strangle-hold of Senate President Bukola Saraki on the party. Bolaji Abdulahi is a protégé of Saraki.

From what is apparently playing out, the APC is threading the now opposition PDP’s path. It will be recalled that Chief Solomon Lar, who guided the party to victory, was similarly replaced by Chief Barnabas Gemade.

Many have not forgotten that the PDP has not recovered from that ugly beginning.

The AUTHORITY also gathered that Oyegun is ready for a vicious battle against Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, who is presently working as an “Executive Assistant” to the controversial and powerful Chief of Staff to President Buhari, Alhaji Abba Kyari .

Kingibe was running mate to Chief MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12 presidential election.

He is widely perceived to have been one of the key insider forces that aided the trade-off of Abiola’s acclaimed and historic Muslim-Muslim ticket victory.

Kingibe is campaigning for the position of Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations.

For Odigie-Oyegun to leave office, the APC NWC must bow to the demands of several party stakeholders and groups to organise an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting or a mini convention, where all the permutations on the enthronement of Oshiomhole and Abdulahi as well as other vacant NWC positions may be ratified.

For example, some non-NWC members of the NEC had last week issued a two-week ultimatum to the Odigie-Oyegun led NWC to convene an emergency NEC meeting to discuss the many issues rocking the unity of the APC.

The group in a communique issued at the end of its meeting in Abuja and signed by Hon. Omolaoye O. Akintola, National Ex-Officio, South West and Coordinator, noted, with regret, the inability of the NWC under Odigie-Oyegun to convene the quarterly NEC meeting as contained in the party’s constitution.

The APC constitution states clearly that only the NEC or party convention can ratify the choice of any national officer.

Buhari Sets To RESIGNS As Petroleum Minister, Pencils Trusted Ally As Replacement

President Muhammadu Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari
Barring last minutes change, President Muhammadu Buhari will in a matter of months resign as the Minister of Petroleum and hand over to the outgoing Governor of Edo State Post-Nigeria reports today.

The President reportedly will appoint the out-going Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole as Minister of Petroleum Resources, after he hands over to the Governor-elect, Godwin Obaseki, in November, our source says it authoritatively gathered

Buhari, who has been guarding that position jealously, is now ready to relinquish it to his most trusted ally, Oshiomhole, who assiduously worked for his emergence as the President of Nigeria.

Confirming the plan to our source is a staunch supporter of the President, and who also has the ears of former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, from Ogun State said: ” Oshiomhole has done a good job as the Governor of Edo State.
“He has the trust of the President. Remember how he unofficially acted as the Spokesman of the President, before the appointment of Ministers.
He added, “He was the one who kept on exposing the rot in the NNPC, Ngozi-Iweala’s corruption breaking scandal, and many more. He is a man of passion and zeal.
“As I speak, the Presidency is contemplating compensating him with the position of Petroleum Minister, for the purpose of reforms.
“But some Northern cabals are against it”.
Recall, that Oshiomhole was once the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC President, and contested for the Governorship position of Edo State, under the defunct Action Congress, AC, and was re-elected under the party ACN, which is now known as the APC, in 2012.

TENSION As 4000 Militants Hired To Distrupt Edo Governorship
Edo State government has raised the alarm over alleged oncoming attacks planned by the Niger Delta Volunteer Force, NDVF, during the coming governorship election in the state on September 10.

A statement by Musa Ebomhiana, senior special assistant on media to Governor Adams Oshiomhole, alerted on the plot, stating that “the militants are expected to invade the state through the waterways in Ologbo, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area and Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area.”

The other entry points, according to the statement, include Ekperi and Anegbete in Etsako Central Local Government Area and Siloko in Ovia North East Local Government.

About 4, 000 of these militants are alleged to have been hired to carry out this dirty job.

One of the leaders of the group and an indigene of Edo State who simply gave his name as J. C. Goddon otherwise known as Rambo, said he was duty-bound to expose this evil plan of his colleagues-in-arms because “we are for free, fair and peaceful election in Edo State and the entire Niger Delta, nothing less.”

Goddon also revealed that “I have advised some of my colleagues in other groups not to be used to destabilise the election in Edo. I also want to advise the youths here (Edo) not to allow themselves to be used to foment trouble before, during and after the election.”

Buhari Offering Nigerians The CHANGE We Voted For - Gov. Adams Oshiomhole
Former labour union leader turned politician and now governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has said avowed that President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress, APC government has actualised the change Nigerians voted for during the 2015 election

Oshiomole said the Buhari led government who came into power on the change mantra, is correcting the mistakes of the past which will definitely take time.

The governor said this while speaking at the national executive committee meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association today June 17th.

“I know that right now, everybody is talking in the country. Is this the change we asked for?

And my answer is Yes. It is the change we asked for.

For all of us in this hall, you know that the challenge of fixing a house that has been destroyed is much more cumbersome than even building a completely new house because for the one that has been destroyed, you have to start by removing the debris.

You have to check whether the foundations are weak so that you remove them. You must first do a lot of cleansing and excavation. That is what President Muhammadu Buhari is doing. And people expect that in 12 months you would have fixed what was destroyed in 16 years.

It is simply not possible and in any case, you must also recognize that even the pressure on the naira is the result of the so much dollars that was taken out and it will require a lot of efforts at a time of collapsed prices and the challenge of oil export to fix what was completely mismanaged.

So, I ask us as elite, we have a duty to explain to the Nigerian people: Changes will come, but they won’t come by trying to remove a house with smoke under. You must extinguish the fire and make sure the foundations are strong, and start the process of rebuilding gradually.

Is this the Change we asked for? Yes. It’s the Change we asked for.

There is no way miracles can occur in the life of a nation. The challenge of re-fixing the house that has been destroyed is much more cumbersome,” Mr. Oshiomhole said. Attachments area

N'Delta Avengers Attacks MEND, Oshiomhole, Silva; Says MEND Are Robbers, Kidnappers, Pirates

MEND
The Niger Delta Avengers, the militant group specialises in bombing the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation facilities in the region has launched a verbal attack on a co-militant group, the Movement For Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND, describing the co-militants as criminals, kidnappers, sea piracy, bank robbers among others.

The NDA in a publication published on its website by it spokesman,  Brig.Gen Mudoch Agbinibo condemned the MEND group over what it describes as "misplaced threat emanating from disbanded criminal elements" The group also accused Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State and Timipre Silva of sponsoring the MEND group in an effort to launder the  group which had engaged in various criminal activities in the name of struggle for the Niger Delta People.

The statement read;

"We appeal to the general public and all sane minds on the activities of Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) to disregards all purported statements and misplaced threat emanating from disbanded criminal elements like the so-called MEND (Movement For the Emancipation of The Niger Delta) that are political sidekicks and desperations from Gov. Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state, Mr. Timipre Silva and their political paymasters to hold their political party to the jugular of the affairs of the Niger Delta Region."

"That our struggle is focused on the liberation of the People of Niger Delta from decades of divisive rule and exclusion."

"We are watching keenly their regretful efforts at rebranding and regrouping criminal elements in the region for their short political gains and territories."

"The NDA is unperturbed, we have mandate that is clearly a departure of those old tactics of the defunct so-called MEND that was indulged in kidnapping, hostage taking, Sea piracy, illegal oil bunkering, bank robberies and social crimes, the likes of  Boyloafs, Ateke Toms, were associated to in their days in the name struggle. The wind of change in the Niger Delta struggle has come, we are young, smart, and focused Niger deltans."

"Our mandate is to liberate the Niger Delta people; we don’t run after pipeline contracts."

"God bless the Niger Delta People."

EDO 2016: Inside Oshiomhole's Untold Secret Plots To Install Obaseki At All Cost, His PDP Connection Revealed

EDO 2016: Inside Oshiomhole's Untold Secret Plots To Install Obaseki At All Cost
Ripples Nigeria - The two major parties in the country and by extension, Edo State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are perfecting strategies to win the governorship contest in that state scheduled for September 10.

Outgoing Governor Adam Oshiomhole is fighting forces within the two major parties to install his preferred successor.

Within the APC, many of his aides are kicking against his preference for Godwin Obaseki, the Head of the State’s Economic Team.

He is also fighting his Deputy, Dr Pius Odubu, who has also indicated interest in the race and has succeeded in mobilising some serving aides against the Comrade-Governor.

But Oshiomhole’s headache is not just within the APC. He is also interested in whoever will pick the ticket of the PDP.

His obsession with the PDP, according to investigations, is to ensure the party does not pick a formidable candidate who can rally round disgruntled elements in the APC and convince voters against the ruling APC.

Oshiomhole, according to close aides, is determined to push through the Obaseki’s candidature at the primary by all means.

While there are unconfirmed allegations that he has doctored the delegates’ list, Oshiomhole is also bent on inducing delegates to pick Obaseki ahead of others.

Other candidates in the APC include: Chris Ogiemwonyi, a former Minister of State for Works under former President Jonathan; a lawyer and philanthropist, Kenneth Imansuangbon; Major General Charles Airhiavbere, former PDP governorship candidate in 2012; Deputy Governor Pius Odubu and Nollywood pioneer, Don Obaseki.

All of them are said to be tinkering with forming a clique against the alleged plans to impose Obaseki by Oshiomhole and the party’s apparatus.

So, the governor’s first battle is to see through the emergence of Obaseki and calm frayed nerves to avoid the PDP benefitting from the conflict of succession.

Within the PDP, most forces are mobilising for former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) under Lucky Igbinedion, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Ize-Iyamu, who left the APC last year after falling out with Oshiomhole, is a formidable grassroots politician with a wide network across the state.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor, according to investigations, is the only candidate Oshiomhole is desperate must not emerge from the PDP.

Others in the race within the PDP are: Chief Solomon Edebiri, Hon. Matthew Iduoriyekemwen and Earl Osaro Onaiwu.

This is why the governor has reportedly planted moles within the PDP to frustrate the emergence of Ize-Iyamu, who is believed to have sufficient resources and goodwill to give Obaseki a run.

Oshiomhole, according to sources, has reached out to renegades within the PDP to stop Ize-Iyamu at all costs, a development that is causing ripples within the opposition party.

Ize-Iyamu’s major opponent is Iduoriyekemwen, former Majority Leader of Edo Assembly and a former Edo representative in Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

His ambition is said to have the backing of former Minister of Works, Architect Mike Onolemenmen.

Iduoriyekemwen is seen as a loyal party member having been in the PDP since 1999. But some say he is not fit to govern Edo, a position his supporters contend as untenable having served as a Majority Leader.

Will the Comrade-Governor succeed in appeasing other candidates within the APC to support the candidacy of Obaseki?

Will Obaseki wave the olive branch to aggrieved opponents should he win the race?

Will the plot to stop Ize-Iyamu from being PDP’s standard bearer succeed?

Will Edo voters buy the person of Obaseki and choose him above whoever PDP presents?

The answers will be provided on September 10.
