2019: Saraki In Secret Meeting With PDP Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff
The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has held a private meeting with a factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ali Modu-Sheriff.

The meeting, which lasted for a little over 20 minutes, was held at an enclosure within the International Conference Centre complex, Abuja, on Sunday.

Saraki made his way into the complex at about 7.30 pm and left around 7.51pm and was received by Sheriff who strolled with him to a corner of the hall where they held the meeting.

Although details of the meeting were not made public, it was gathered that they discussed issues of “mutual interest.”

There have been speculations about political re-alignments ahead of the 2019 general elections even as Sheriff is battling the Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the PDP over the chairmanship of the PDP.

Both have separately vowed to reposition the party towards making it a better alternative platform for the 2019 general polls.

When contacted, the Special Assistant to the Senate President (Print Media), Mr. Chucks Okocha, said while it was true that his boss met with Sheriff, it had nothing to do with politics.

He said, “My principal only went to felicitate with the Sheriffs over the wedding of their daughter.

“The Sarakis and the Sheriffs have been family friends for over 20 years.

“There is nothing usual about them sharing moments of joy such as weddings. It was just a social visit and that is what it is.”

THE UNTOLD: How Sheriff Created Boko Haram - Borno Attorney General, Justice Commissioner

THE UNTOLD: How Sheriff Created Boko Haram - Borno Attorney General, Justice Commissioner
Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, the factional chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has once again been accused by the Borno State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Kaka Lawan, as the creator of the dreaded Islamic sect group, the Boko Harm.

Speaking at the ongoing 56th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, said that the insecurity created by Sheriff in Borno few years ago metamorphosed into Boko Haram, thereby calling for the arrests prosecution of the former governor.

According to Lawan, bad governance and impunity reigned during Sheriff’s administration as the governor of the state between 2003 and 2011.

He added that the creation of the Ministry of Religious Affairs by the then Sheriff administration in Borno and the killing of the head of the ministry in the 2009 turmoil worsened the level of insecurity in the state.

“Ali Modu Sheriff was a former governor of Borno State for eight years and left the state in a state of insecurity.

“The issue that happened in Borno, the insecurity that brought us to this situation we are in, was as a result of bad governance, illiteracy, lack of respect for the rule of law, impunity in the administration of Ali Modu Sheriff and the Federal Government then did not checkmate his excesses and it escalated to this level.

“Up to today, he is moving freely and nobody is talking to him. All hands must be on deck, if actually justice must be done to the hundreds of people that were killed in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“He (Sheriff) should be arrested. He should be investigated. He should be interrogated for the facts that we have just mentioned in Port Harcourt here. His records were known to everybody, even to you media men.

“The Federal Government is aware; the state government is aware; you media men are aware. They are not only facts; they are notorious facts. All and sundry are aware.

“Can he deny that fact that he was a governor between 2003 and 2011? Can he deny that Muhammed Yusuf freely operated between 2003 and 2009 and the aberration laws he passed?” Lawan queried.

In reaction to the allegation,  Sheriff said Lawan was not sincere and that he was acting the script allegedly written by Governor Kashim Shettima., Punch Newspaper reports

Sheriff, who spoke through his Special Adviser of Media, Mallam Inuwa Bwala, said that the commissioner should look inward to the government to enable him to know those behind the Boko Haram menace in the state.

He said, “The commissioner is talking rubbish. He’s acting the script of his governor. Sheriff made the governor what he is today.

“Those who are making the allegation should know that three of his (Sheriff) brothers were killed by Boko Haram, his family is being threatened by the Boko Haram.

“The AGF’s predecessor died in circumstances not clear. What killed him and who killed him? The people are suspecting who is behind the killing. I pity him, he doesn’t know what he is talking about. He is serving in a government that created and funded Boko Haram.”

Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, the Tormentor- in- Chief of the PDP, By Ibrahim Lawal

When they brought you from sambisa forest to come and lead their sinking party, we told them you are not one that can be treated with ignominy. They attacked us as being afraid of your ability to rescue the PDP. We were called names for telling them the bitter truth.

They wax lyrics about your ability to cut Buhari to size. Now you are dealing them a great blow. When you told the whole world on Channels TV on Sunday that the Portharcourt Convention will not hold, they said you are merely blabbing.

You got an order stopping the convention, the unthinking PDP members treated it with levity. You again got another order against the IGP to stop the convention by all means, they acted as if nothing spoil. Instead of them to take steps to address the impending danger, they carried on as if nothing has happened until they come face to face with the reality of not moving forward with the convention.

The premature ejaculation has ended, and the party is over.Ali Modu Sheriff has won again!

Goodbye to PDP! And all hail the king of Sambisa forest.

PDP CRISIS: Jonathan SHOCKS Party, Queues Behind Sheriff, 5 Governors Too, What GEJ Told BoT'll Shock You Either

PDP CRISIS: Jonathan SHOCKS Party, Queues Behind Sheriff, 5 Governors Too, What GEJ Told BoT'll Shock You Either

PDP CRISIS: Jonathan SHOCKS Party, Queues Behind Sheriff, 5 Governors Too, What GEJ Told BoT'll Shock You Either
Contrary to the expectation of many on the lingering leadership crisis bedeviling the opposition Peoples Democratic party, PDP, a former President Goodluck Jonathan have reportedly queued behind the Ali Modu Sheriff led faction, urging the party as a matter of urgency find means to reconcile with the former Borno Governor.

Jonathan according to New Telegraph made his stance known on Wednesday night when he met with the BoT members of the Party at his Abuja resident.

Members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were shocked by the outcome of their meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday night. Select representatives of the board, from the six geo-political zones, led by their chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin, met with the former president to appeal for his intervention in the PDP leadership crisis.

The meeting, which was held at Jonathan’s Abuja residence at highbrow Mataima district, lasted for about one and half hours. There was no official briefing at the end of the meeting. Former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George and former Minister of Education, Professor Tunde Adeniran, who spoke at separate interviews with journalists after the meeting, described the outcome as “warm and encouraging.”

George disclosed that Jonathan “has not only accepted to assist in making peace, but gave his word to be joining us in the process of resolving the crisis, and to also make out time to attend our meetings. “As you know, he is a life time member of BoT, having been a former president. Sometime, when people see the big masquerade, they will be more careful.”

A source at the meeting, however, disclosed that the BoT members got more than what they bargained for. Most of the board members have pledged support to Senator Ahmed Makarfi- led caretaker committee, which they said was a product of the May 21 Port Harcourt National Convention. But the source disclosed that Jonathan directed them to make peace with the Sheriff faction for quick resolution of the crisis.

According to the source, the former president told them that given the evidences available, Sheriff has the upper hand than the Makarfi-led caretaker committee and might continue to rubbish PDPthe party if urgent steps were not taken to reconcile with him.

A member of the BoT, who spoke with New Telegraph on the condition of anonymity, said that the members told Jonathan to return to the party and assume his role as the leader. He said that the former president agreed to return with a promise that he would speak with all the feuding members of the party with a view to finding a solution to the crisis.

Jonathan was also said to have told the BoT members to reach every party to the crisis and try and achieve reconciliation. But he said that anybody that did not accept the offer of reconciliation should be regarded as not being interested in the party. He said: “It is not only about Sheriff.

It is about all members of the party who are angry or have issues with the party. He tasked us to reach everybody in the party that has one grouse or the other and attempt reconciliation.

He also promised that he would reach everybody himself. But he told us that if after all the attempts, anybody that was not interested should be left out of the party.” It was gathered that Jonathan met with Sheriff a day before the BoT meeting, at his Abuja residence. The meeting lasted for three hours.

The former president, at the opening of the BoT meeting, said he had been meeting with some individual members of the party without attracting media attention. The meeting with Sheriff might have offered him detailed information of his grievances.

The source added that what might have emboldened the factional chairman the more despite three court judgements against him, was seemingly sympathy he has been enjoying from some Ali Modu Sheriffleaders of the party. It was learnt that what Jonathan told the BoT members was the same message party leaders got from former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, who was also approached to broker a truce with Sheriff.

Makarfi was present at the meeting, which held at Babangida’s Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State. Sheriff has a long relationship with Babangida. The former president reportedly told the PDP delegation that despite the superiority at the courts, political solution still remains the option.

He directed them to go and reconcile with Sheriff. Sheriff is enjoying the support of Senator Buruji Kashamu who appeared at expanded national caucus meeting convened by Makarfi. Jimoh Ibrahim, who has been nursing governorship ambition in Ondo State, recently joined the camp. And while aspirants seeking to fly the PDP flag in the November 30 Ondo governorship election are trying to forge a consensus candidate, Jimoh Ibrahim, yesterday, picked governorship form from Sheriff. He is one of those funding the Sheriff faction.

With the advice of Jonathan and Babangida, it is most probable that machineries would be put in motion by party stakeholders to interface with Sheriff with a view to resolving the crisis. Before journalists were excused from the meeting, the former president had told the BoT members that he had been receiving regular briefings on the state of affairs of the party since he left office. His words: “Unfortunately we have been challenged, but I don’t think you should be discouraged. Challenges are part of life; even in families, there are challenges.

There are challenges even in the church more than what may be happening at political level. So you should not be discouraged, and I believe, collectively, we can solve it. “This should not be beyond us, but I believe collectively, we can resolve it. Any sincere PDP member should know that PDP is bigger than an individual. And many members have sacrificed their interest for the party,” he observed.

Jonathan regretted the conflicting court orders that have continued to exacerbate the crisis and further called on party members to sheathe their swords for the interest of the party.

The former president noted that even Nigerians need strong opposition party and urged members of the party to unite for quick resolution of the crisis. Jibrin explained that the visit was in recognition of Jonathan’s position as former president, to interact with him and inform him of the state of the party. He informed him that PDP is undergoing a lot of difficulties and challenges, disclosing that there are about 15 court cases seeking to stop the PDP’s national convention. “We have realised that we need reconciliation. So many committees have been set up for reconciliation.

The BoT decided to form a special committee to pursue reconciliation. Some members of the party are concerned. “That is why we appealed to the former president that he be party to the reconciliation,” he said.

The governors had unanimously backed the caretaker committee, which was a product of the May 21 Port Harcourt National Convention. Majority of them also were present at the handover ceremony by former Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus last June on behalf of the former National Working Committee (NWC). But after the court judgement two weeks ago, Governors Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Emmanuel Udom (Akwa Ibom), Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe) and Darius Ishaku (Taraba) are allegedly having a rethink about their continued support to the caretaker committee. Mimiko, who is the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum reportedly held a meeting with Sheriff.

The meeting lasted three hours, details of which are still sketchy at press time. Dankwambo, who is co-chairman of the zoning committee set up by the committee and Ishaku are two governors from the north, and they come from Sheriff’s North West zone. Governors Nyesom Wike and Ayodele Fayose of Rivers and Ekiti states respectively have maintained their hard stand against the factional chairman. Inuwa Bwala, Special Adviser to Sheriff on Media, confirmed that Sheriff met with Jonathan and some governors, but said he did not know what transpired.

“I know that Sheriff met with Mimiko and some of the governors. I know also that that he met with the former president, but I don’t know what they discussed. I was not at the meeting. That is what I can tell you,” he told Our source

PDP Crisis: Sheriff Shuns Reconciliation Meeting, Jets Out of The Country

PDP Crisis: Sheriff Shuns Reconciliation Meeting, Jets Out of The Country

Ali Modu-Sheriff.
The much expected conciliatory meeting of leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with aggrieved members of the party took off on a shaky note last night at the Ondo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

The meeting originally scheduled for 8:30p.m did not take off as at 9.30p.m due to late arrival of expected participants.

The meeting was expected to be attended by governors elected on the platform of the party, members of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), the PDP National Assembly caucus, caretaker committee set up in Port-Harcourt at the convention led by Ahmed Makarfi as well as the group loyal to immediate past chairman of the party, Ali Modu-Sheriff.

Modu-Sheriff has refused to back down since his removal from office on May 21, at the Port-Harcourt convention, and has gone ahead to institute a court case against the party.

It was gathered that yesterday meeting was particularly delayed because of the decision of Modu-Sheriff to stay away from the meeting as he was said to have jetted out of the country on Sunday night, a move being interpreted as deliberately taken so he could have tangible excuse to be away from the meeting.

The governors were said to have been shocked to hear of Modu-Sheriff’s sudden overseas trip, given the fact that he was said to have assured the party leaders that he would be at the meeting.

Modu-Sheriff camp is the only faction in the party resisting reconciliation as the Concerned Stakeholders group led by Prof. Jerry Gana has accepted to work with the caretaker committee.

At the Ondo State Governor’s Lodge last night, it was gathered that the idea of postponing the meeting was mooted by some of the governors who were angry with the decision of Modu-Sheriff to jettison the meeting.
The reconciliation meeting, it was gathered, was called principally because of his group.

Senator Buruji Kashamu was also expected to be at the meeting as a supporter of Modu-Sheriff.

However, a close ally of Modu-Sheriff told this newspaper that the angry former chairman has made up his mind to see through his court case against the party, as he holds on to his belief that he remains the national chairman of the party.

“We are not aware of any meeting. Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff as the National Chairman of the party did not call any meeting, so it will be unwise of him to attend any meeting so called without his consent.

“Whatever decision allegedly taken by anybody or any group of persons at any illegal meeting will not be acceptable to the Chairman, he didn’t call any meeting, so, there is no meeting holding anywhere as far as Senator Modu-Sheriff is concerned”, the source said.

As at press time, the vicinity of the Ondo State Governor’s Lodge was virtually empty as the governors were yet to arrive, but it was learnt that members of the Concerned PDP Stakeholders Forum and members of the BoT were locked in a meeting at the venue.
