Ondo Election In Bloody Start As APC Chieftain Shot Dead, PDP Fingered

Ondo Election Bloody In Bloody Start As APC Chieftain Shot Dead, PDP Fingered
Afolabi Olaposi, a chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Owo, Ondo State, was killed by unknown gunmen on Thursday night in Owo, the party said.

The party said in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Adesanya, on Friday in Akure that Mr. Olaposi was shot dead on his way home after attending a meeting of the party in preparation for the governorship election.

“Olaposi, who is one of the leaders of our party in Igboroko Ward 1, Owo, was also an ardent supporter of our Governorship Candidate, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN).

“He was a perfect gentleman who was committed to the development of the party in Owo and Ondo State in general.

“The assailant also went to the house of Chief Jamiu Ekungba, an APC aspirant in the Sept. 3 Primary, and vandalised seven vehicles in his compound.

“Ekungba was not to at home during the attack.

“We believe those calling for the postponement of the election and threatening a repeat of 1983 violence were behind these dastardly acts.

“We call on security agents in the state to fish out those behind these acts and ensure the protection of our people before, during and after the election,’’ Mr. Adesanya said.

The Peoples Democratic Party and it's candidate have been clamouring for the postponedment of the election.

Ondo Crisis: At Last, Oke Dumps APC, Joins Tinubu's Pioneered Party, Says APC Hijacked By CABALS

Ondo Crisis: At Last, Oke Dumps APC, Joins Tinubu's Pioneered Party, Says APC Hijacked By CABALS

Olusola Oke
The second runner-up of the All Progressives Congress, APC gubernatorial aspirant in the controversial primary in Ondo State, Olusola Oke has finally defected from the party to the Alliance For Democracy, after weeks of speculations.

The Alliance for Democracy is the pioneer party that produced the national leader of the ruling All progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Lagos State governor in 1999. Tinubu later dumped the party for Action Congress, AC, and later Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN and the of course, the current All Progressives Congress, APC.

Olusola Oke, aggrieved by the conduct of the national Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun,  yesterday joined  the Alliance for Democracy(AD).

Oke, had polled 576 votes after the September 3 gubernatorial primaries, said he dumped the party because of the action of its National chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

Oyegun overruled the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) that called for fresh primary following irregularities detected by the Appeal Committee that probed the post-primary crisis.

Addressing crowd of supporters at his Ijapo estate residence, Oke said since the leadership of the party had failed to do justice to the irregularities, he decided to dump APC to realise his aspiration under the AD.

Oke, who was the former National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), described APC as a good party but lamented it had been hijacked by some cabals.

According to him, it was illogical and wrong for Oyegun to jettison the verdict of the majority members of the NWC when it was cleared the shadow election was allegedly manipulated in favour of the governorship candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu(SAN).

Oke noted that many APC stakeholders including National Leader of the party Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had condemned the NWC, calling for the cancellation of the exercise which was not addressed.

The legal practitioner assured his supporters that by God’s grace, he would actualise his dream on the platform of the AD.

Sources hinted that the National leadership of the AD had formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) for replacement of its candidate for the coming governorship election in Ondo State.

The AD asked that the name of the party’s candidate Dr Akin Olowookere be substituted with that of Chief Oke for the governorship election.

The party had already persuaded Olowookere to make way for Oke, following intervention of some prominent founding fathers of the party.

Olowookere, it was gathered, has agreed to the arrangements and will become an integral part of Oke team.

Oke is expected to be joined in the AD by some aggrieved governorship aspirants from the APC, including Senator Ajayi Boroffice.

Why I Visited APC Secretariat - Atiku Opens Up
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC,  has explained the purpose of his visit to the national secretariat of the APC on Monday.

The Turaki Adamawa, through a press statement by his media office in Abuja yesterday, noted that his visit to the party secretariat was not a response to summon by the leadership of the party as widely speculated.

The visit to the national secretariat of our great party was to rub minds with the party hierarchy, and it was of a routine kind as a chieftain of the party.

“I was neither summoned nor queried by the party on any issue as being speculated. Rather, my visit was at my own behest. “As a party chieftain, I owe it a duty to my party to appraise challenges within the structures of the party and also proffer suggestions on how to manage those challenges.

I urge you all to discountenance any malicious insinuations about my visit to the party secretariat,” the former vice president concluded.

BREAKING: Pastor Ize-Iyamu Wins PDP Edo Guber primary
Pastor Osagie  Ize-Iyamu has emerged winner of the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primary held in the state today.

The National Committee of the party for the conduct of the primaries, led by Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State declared Ize-Iyamu winner.

The election was contested by only aspirants from Edo South, namely Chief Solomon Edebiri, Mr Mathew Uduoeyekemwen and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Of a total 713 votes cast, Ize-Iyamu emerged winner with 584 votes followed by Uduoeyekemwen who polled 91 votes while Edebiri garnered 38 votes. There was no void.

The election was witnessed by among others, the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa and Jimi Agbaje, PDP governorship candidate of Lagos State in the last general election, who counted the votes at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the venue of the election.

Umahi commended the aspirants, delegates and Edo State PDP members for the peaceful conduct of the election declaring it credible, free and fair.

Ize-Iyamu, was the Secretary to the State Government under the administration of former Governor Lucky Igbinedion’s, while Uduoeyekemwen was Majority Leader in the House of Assembly at the time.

He will now face Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress, APC,  in the September 10 governorship election in the state.

However, there are concerns that the Ali Modu Sheriff’s faction in the state may also come up with their own candidate, a situation many analysts believe will not do PDP much good in the election.

REVEALED: FG In Fresh Plot To IMPEACH Fayose

REVEALED: FG In Fresh Plot To IMPEACH Fayose

Dr Ayodele Fayose, the Ekiti State governor, on Sunday, raised the alarm over an alleged plot by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) to impeach him and as well “destabilise the Ekiti State government, using the instrumentalities of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other agencies of government.”

Gov. Fayos addressing newsmen in Abuja, on Sunday, Fayose declared “that no amount of intimidation, harassment, investigation and coercion will make me stop speaking on behalf of the common man, who freely gave their mandate to the APC, who are now daily failing them.”
He stated that “it is now obvious that the current government is all out to move against and silence all voices in the opposition.
“I just want to alert all Nigerians that they are at it again, but they will not succeed and I will not surrender nor lose my voice as a result of their harassment.

“A few days ago, we got it on good authority that there was a meeting with some politicians from Ekiti State, including an Ekiti-born Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and self-professed human rights activist as well as a former senator, who is also an adviser to the vice president by agents of the Federal Government, with the agenda solely on how to bring down my administration as the governor of the state.

“Certain top functionaries of the Ekiti State government and some important members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State and some associates of mine have now been pencilled down for arrest and indefinite detention by the EFCC under the guise of investigating the funds spent by the PDP on the June 21, 2014 governorship election and the Presidential election.

“The game plan is to make those to be arrested get detained indefinitely, forced to make statements incriminating me, while at the same time feeding the public with orchestrated fake reports, using their usual media organs.

“This is coming after their failure to use the Department of State Services (DSS) to coerce members of the state House of Assembly to buy into the impeachment plot against me with a view to silencing me being a major voice of the opposition.
“The plot to arrest and detain indefinitely my Chief of Staff, Chief Dipo Anisulowo and four honourable members of the state House of Assembly for treason over our protest letter on the loan from China.

“To achieve this sinister plot against the government and people of Ekiti State, we have been informed that some of their trusted allies in the EFCC have been mobilised to move to Ekiti any moment from now.
“I, however, wish to advise them to keep their gun power dry and should not be in a hurry, but rather wait till the end of my tenure in 2018.
“As a man known to keeping to his words, I want to assure them that I will be available to answer any of their questions, no matter how unreasonable.

“While we are not afraid of persecution from anyone or government agency, including the EFCC and DSS, I wish to state that the level at which the Buhari-led Federal Government is taking political vendetta and muzzling of opposition both in the PDP and within the APC, is dangerous to the survival of democracy in the country.

“Most importantly, Nigerians must begin to ask the EFCC what has happened to the several petitions against APC leaders and financiers of President Buhari’s election, including former governors.

“Nigerians must, therefore, begin to ask the EFCC why it has refused to act on petitions against APC members. Why is EFCC only interested in how PDP funded its elections? Was the fund used for President Buhari’s election gotten from the spirit world? Is EFCC now for persecution of PDP members? Must everyone that is not in the APC be subject of EFCC harassment?

Buhari Offering Nigerians The CHANGE We Voted For - Gov. Adams Oshiomhole
Former labour union leader turned politician and now governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has said avowed that President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress, APC government has actualised the change Nigerians voted for during the 2015 election

Oshiomole said the Buhari led government who came into power on the change mantra, is correcting the mistakes of the past which will definitely take time.

The governor said this while speaking at the national executive committee meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association today June 17th.

“I know that right now, everybody is talking in the country. Is this the change we asked for?

And my answer is Yes. It is the change we asked for.

For all of us in this hall, you know that the challenge of fixing a house that has been destroyed is much more cumbersome than even building a completely new house because for the one that has been destroyed, you have to start by removing the debris.

You have to check whether the foundations are weak so that you remove them. You must first do a lot of cleansing and excavation. That is what President Muhammadu Buhari is doing. And people expect that in 12 months you would have fixed what was destroyed in 16 years.

It is simply not possible and in any case, you must also recognize that even the pressure on the naira is the result of the so much dollars that was taken out and it will require a lot of efforts at a time of collapsed prices and the challenge of oil export to fix what was completely mismanaged.

So, I ask us as elite, we have a duty to explain to the Nigerian people: Changes will come, but they won’t come by trying to remove a house with smoke under. You must extinguish the fire and make sure the foundations are strong, and start the process of rebuilding gradually.

Is this the Change we asked for? Yes. It’s the Change we asked for.

There is no way miracles can occur in the life of a nation. The challenge of re-fixing the house that has been destroyed is much more cumbersome,” Mr. Oshiomhole said. Attachments area

One Year In Office: Tinubu Warns Buhari, Reveals Top Secret Plots To Infiltrate His Govt.

One Year In Office: PDP In Secret Ploy To Infiltrates Your Govt. Tinubu Warns Buhari
As part of activities to celebrate the Democracy Day and one year in office of President Muhammadu Buhari, the national leader of the ruling All progressives Congress, APC and former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made a shocking revelation to the President, News Punch understands

Tinubu has raised the alarm over moves by some members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to regain access into government through the backdoor, New Telegraph, reports

In a statement issued yesterday by the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to commemorate the first year anniversary of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, Tinubu said the nation would forfeit her future if the present administration gives into their deceit.

His words: “Those who benefitted from injustices past energetically plot their return. The looters of yesterday to whom we waved farewell in the 2015 elections now try to shimmy through the backdoor to continue their pilfering ways.

“There is no progressive policy in your benefit they do not actively seek to undermine and make fail. They hope to use your kindness and patience against you. They seek to erect barriers to discourage us into believing there is no other way than the backward path they offer.

“We shall forfeit the nation’s future if we give into their deceit or if we fall into despondency because progress does not appear to come as fast or as systematically as we hoped. “You, the people, must participate in government as never before.

We cannot be passive onlookers when what lies in the balance is the future of our children and their sons and daughters after them. If someone tried to kidnap your child, you would not fold your hands and close your mouth.

Then we should not do so when the vultures and hyenas of yesterday sneak about in an attempt to steal, perhaps not our children, but their very futures.” Tinubu also decried the ousted PDP administration.

His words: “We have endured the harsh meter of authoritarian rule. After military rule gave way, we withstood the ambivalent nature of 17 years of civilian rule not as brutish as the military, but not quite democracy either.

We existed in the twilight between darkness and light. Yet, we refused to get lost or to avert your focus from what was better. “We lived in a land of elections the results of which were not always the expression of the sovereign will of the people, but of the will of a few people who mistook themselves to be the sovereign.

Instead of holding elections, they used a superficially democratic process to coronate themselves as modern royalty. They misbehaved and misgoverned according to this fouled perception. “The only honour such people could give democracy was to mock it.

When they celebrated democracy day these past 16 years, it was as thieves and burglars celebrating one of their own becoming the chief security officer of a bank.” While urging the government to urgently restructure the economy by initiating fiscal policies that stand unrivalled in its objectives, Tinubu said the government must summon political and social courage for the task ahead of it.

“There are many challenges our nation faces. Security problems trouble some areas, but thankfully government is making progress, particularly against Boko Haram. This brutal terrorist group will soon be a thing of the bleak past. The evil killing and destruction wrought will be no more.

“There is a problem that cuts all areas equally. If we are not careful, it will afflict us a long time to come. In a cold, swift stroke, the decline in oil prices has turned into a mockery the model upon which we had for so long based our political economy.

We either must waste away or construct a new model,” the former governor said. Advising the government on some fiscal policy route that may lead to the revamping of the nation’s economy, Tinubu said: “Government must dedicate unprecedented amounts for productive expenditure in our transportation infrastructure power generation, food security and job creation.

“We have entered a period of stagflation where recession or shrinkage of the economy is accompanied by higher prices. Unfortunately, if we try to fight both at the same time, we fight neither effectively.

“Given the rate of joblessness and poverty, it is more fitting to fight recession at this point than to focus on inflation. We can endure a bit more inflation if it means more jobs and greater aggregate demand that can develop the velocity needed to free the economy of recession’s gravitational pull. “We must resist recession; it is harder to shake off once it takes grip of an economy.

Our economy should diversify by expanding our infrastructural network, bolstering agricultural and farm incomes, as well as filliping industry and manufacturing to provide jobs for a rapidly expanding urban workforce. “We can institute policies that create new industries and businesses as well as improve old ones.

These measures will form the foundation of a diversified economy that will become more resistant to inflation because it is less reliant on imports. “Also, it will be more recession resistant because the economy will rest on multiple revenue sources instead of a single source that is dependent on foreign consumer preferences over which we have little control.”

The APC leader said all hands must be on deck to move the government forward. He said: “Now is not the time to lament, murmur or give into despair. It is time to summon once again the political and social courage that we well know and that well knows us.

“We need to push forward and to urge government forward to do that which it must to achieve this great generational feat. We stand between success and failure; but we cannot maintain this middling position forever. We must turn one way or the other.

To me, there is but one option. The other is unspeakable. We must be bold enough not accept an inferior destiny. We must win. “A great historic push and effort are mandated. Change takes boldness, perseverance and moral fortitude; profound change requires even more so.

The task is hard, but I neither fret nor worry. In my heart, I am comforted by the knowledge that we are so much better and stronger than the obstacle before us,” he said.

Obasanjo, Atiku, Duke, Others Linked To New Political Party; Tinubu's Name Too Filters Ahead 2019
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, an unconfirmed report says is leading a pack of top politicians including his former Vice President. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former senate president Ken Nnamani and former Cross River State Governor Mr. Donald Duke, among others, to float a new political party ahead of the 2019 general elections apparently in dissatisfaction with the performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government led by President Muhammadu Buhari, Frontier News reports

It gathered authoritatively, Frontier News says that the new party formation, which is billed for lunch in November 2016 also has Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal and his predecessor Senator Aliyu Wamako as coordinator of Sokoto state while Senator Musa Kwakwaso is to oversee Kano state.

Other coordinators of the yet to be named mega party our correspondent gathered are Senator Adamu Aliero who is to coordinate Kebbi state, MrsAll Progressives Congress  who is to coordinate Akwa Ibom, the current secretary to the Edo State government Professor Julius Ihonvbere is to coordinate Edo State while Mr. Jimi Agbaje is to coordinate Lagos state. The name of Ogun born politician Mr. Bode Mustapha also featured in the new political arrangement.

Some governors of the South-South and South-East, who are serving their second terms in office our correspondent gathered are also deeply involved in the political arrangement but with the promise of vice presidential slot while  present and former governors of the North have also been linked to the new party.

Though the name of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was linked to the new party, an insider told Frontiersnews that Obasanjo is strongly opposed to the inclusion of his former deputy in the party.

A source, who spoke to our correspondent, on condition of anonymity said ” Obasanjo is blocking the inclusion of Atiku Abubakar because of their old quarrel. We are beginning to see the former VP returning to the PDP before 2019 because the APC will certainly not give him the ticket in 2019″.

Top political leaders in both the ruling APC, the PDP and other political parties in the country have also been linked with the new party as consultation intensifies.

An inside source told our correspondent on Monday that key members of the National Assembly, some serving ministers, former governors and a host of other powerful individuals in the country swell the rank of the new political group.

The source stated that in the months ahead, “you are going to see alignment and realignment of political interests. As for the APC and the PDP, there survival will be dependent on their ability to manage their crisis”.

Our correspondent’s investigations revealed that APC strongman Senator Bola Tinubu is already mobilising his supporters to consolidate their hold on the South West bloc and possibly reawaken “his old political bloc”.

Tinubu’s key allies and diehard loyalists who the source said are very unhappy in APC and with the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government are already mobilising to recreate the old Alliance for Democracy (AD) platform ahead of the 2019 general elections, another top politician confirmed.

The source said this development is also applicable to the Atiku Abubakar and the Bukola Saraki’s blocs.

The promoters of the yet to be named political party, the online medium said were undecided wether to create a completely new political platform or leverage on an already registered party and build it into a mega party to form a formidable opposition party to the APC and the PDP in the political landscape.

TOP SECRET: How APC Plotting PDP Breakup; The Dasukigate, A Media Mogul Connection Fingered

TOP SECRET: How APC Plotting PDP Breakup; The Dasukigate, A Media Mogul Connection Fingered

Ripples Nigeria - Though once reputed to be the largest political party in Africa, the fortunes of the now opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is fast dwindling, as it has split into different factions.

While the party has scheduled its national convention for Port Harcourt this Saturday, another faction has also slated the same day for a parallel convention to be held in Abuja.

This faction is comprised of former ministers and former governors.

So come Saturday, except the issues are resolved, and the members reunited, the PDP may end up with two set of national executive officers, and what happens after that is anybody’s guess.

Ripples Nigeria however, gathered that the crisis within the party is not an internally generated dispute, but fuelled by external forces, from the ruling party bent on retaining power at the centre.

Probes revealed that some forces in the APC are of the view that one sure way to retain power is to decimate the ranks of the PDP, leaving it weak, and unable to offer any meaningful or threatening opposition.

Sources within the PDP unhappy with the development have revealed that a strategic think tank within the APC has held an influential leader of the PDP by the jugular, forcing him to carry out the planned breakup of the opposition party from within.

Feelers reveal that the PDP chieftain who was dragged to court for his alleged involvement in the now infamous Dasukigate by the EFCC, is keen to maintain his freedom, having spent a couple of nights in detention, an issue which is being used as leverage to rein him in to carry out the plan to destabilize the PDP.

Our source, a highly placed PDP chieftain revealed that already, the PDP stalwart, a media mogul has been assured that he would get a breather from the case with the EFCC, as conditions for his cooperation.

The PDP chief has so far reportedly been keeping his end of the bargain by organizing rebellious meetings of PDP and desperately sending out text messages to PDP members to attend the factional national convention in Abuja.

The last meeting of the faction opposed to the chairmanship of Ali Modu Sherriff was held in his company where it was decided to hold a parallel convention.

As the APC plot plays out, it is yet to be seen how the PDP intends to counter it to remain afloat, as a viable opposition party, and beyond.

I Swear, Unlike Saraki's, I Was Under Pressure To JAIL Tinubu By All Means - CCT Chairman

I Swear, Unlike Saraki's, I Was Under Pressure To JAIL Tinubu By All Means - CCT Chairman

The Nation - The Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, said yesterday that the tribunal and its members were subjected to “serious influence” during the trial of a former Lagos State Governor and national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Umar said, unlike what obtained during the Tinubu trial, the tribunal was not under any external influence or interference in its handling of the trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

“I want to say that in the case of Bola Tinubu, we were under serious influence, but we did what we had to do and discharged him. So we must be fair to ourselves not to delay this trial.

“The insinuation that we are being influenced in this case is not true. We are all answerable to Allah, when we breathe our last,” Umar said.

Tinubu was taken before the tribunal in 2011 for allegedly operating foreign accounts while serving as governor between 1999 and 2007. The charge was struck out, following which he was discharged.

Umar said he was guided by his conscience, the urge to do justice and the belief that everyone is answerable to Allah (GOD) when he dies.

The CCT Chairman spoke at the resumption of Saraki’s trial yesterday. He was reacting to insinuation in the media that the tribunal was being influenced to give a guilty verdict against Saraki.

The second member of the tribunal, William Agwadza Atedze, frowned at attempts to tarnish the reputation of the tribunal’s members through sponsored media publications.

“At the weekend, there was an article in the paper about me. It was titled: ‘CCT and the bird of the same feather.’ The author is taking on the wrong person, I do not keep quiet.

“The insinuation that we have been compromised is not true. Adebayo Adelodun and Yusuf Ali (two senior lawyers in Saraki’s legal team) were my classmates at ABU (Ahmadu Bello University). I am very outspoken and I have not changed.

“When they say one member of the bench is not contributing enough, do you want us to be fighting on the Bench or disagreeing in the open? The Bench is not a motor park. When we do not agree on any issue we resolve it in the office.

“This is not about the headship of Senate. This is not about an individual. It is about the country. This country is on its knees. Today, we cannot buy common tomatoes in the market. This is about the country. It is not about an individual. This case is a watershed, no matter which way it goes at the end of the day,” Atedze said.

Responding, leader of Saraki’s legal team Kanu Agabi (SAN) admitted that the defence had before yesterday expressed fear about the proceedings. He said they were now assured that justice would be done since the tribunal Chairman has placed the proceedings before God.

Agabi said: “There is nothing lawyers fear most than prejudice. We are glad that you have declared that you fear God and committed this proceedings to God.

“Prejudice ought not to have a place in the law court, but today it is. Because you have called the name of God, may God guide you. I pray for you everyday that God should protect you. You are a young man, handling a critical issue in our nation’s life,” Agabi said.

Lead prosecution lawyer Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) urged the tribunal members to ignore the impression being created about them in the media and not be bothered by it.

“It is not only this tribunal and its members that they are writing about. They have also written all sorts of things about us. It is what we are subjected to everyday,” Jacobs said.

He said Agabi’s claim that they fear prejudice was uncalled for. He said: “All the rulings of this tribunal have been upheld by the appellate courts. So, where is the claim of prejudice?

“We have nothing to hide. We cannot tell lies against anybody. I cannot ask my witness to tell lies. We mention more of God in this country but we do less of God. That is our problem,” Jacobs said.

Later, under cross-examination by Saraki’s lawyer, Paul Usoro (SAN) first prosecution witness, Michael Wetkas insisted yesterday that investigation revealed that the Senate President made false declarations in the asset declaration forms he submitted while in office as Kwara State governor.

Wetkas, who insisted that Saraki made anticipatory declaration in 2003 in respect of the property he acquired on 15, McDonald Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, said the property was only sold by the government in 2006.

He said the property declared by Saraýki as 15A and B, McDonald Road , Ikoyi, Lagos, on assuming office as Kwara State Governor in 2003 was the same as 15, McDonald Road Ikoyi, Lagos.

The witness added that the Presidential Implementation Committee on the Sale of Federal Government’s Properties confirmed that15, McDonald Road, Ikoyi, was sold to Saraki’s company, TinyTee Limited.

He noted that Saraki had, in the form he submitted to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) on assumption of office in 2003, claimed that he acquired 15A and B, Mcdonald Ikoyi, ýLagos, through Carslise Properties Limited.

“I have always said it in my evidence about 15, McDonald Road, Ikoyi. We maintain our position that that property was one and the same property that the implementation committee wrote to us about. The implementation committee did not tell us that there existed15 A and B separately.

“The Managing Director of Carlisle Property, Sule Izuagbe, also talked about 15 McDonald as the property belonging to the defendant (Saraki) and the defendant in the asset declaration which he made in 2011 and 2015, declared the property as 15, McDonald Road, Ikoyi; he no longer said 15A and B.

“That is why we maintained the same position that it is the same property.  The nomenclature is just as the convenience of the defendant,” the witness said.

He confirmed that the Certificate of Occupancy for 15, McDonald Road, Ikoyi, was issued in the name of TinyTee Limited and not in Saraki’s name.

Wetkas also confirmed that the Certificate of Occupancy with November 26, 2006 as its commencement date was issued by the ýthen Minister of Housing and Urban Development ýand not the implementation committee.

He said, in the course of investigation, he did not come across any document signed by Saraki in relation to the Ikoyi property.

On how he concluded that the property belonged to Saraki, Wekas said his conclusion was informed by his finding that the property on 15 McDonald Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, was paid for by Saraki through the bank accounts of two other companies which Saraki had declared his interest in.

He also said the Managing Director of two of Saraki’s companies – Carlisle Properties and Investment Limited and ýSky View Properties – Mr. Sule Izuagbe, confirmed that the payment for the property was made on the instruction given by the Senate President.

“We believe that the property was bought for the defendant. The property was paid for through the account of Carlisle Properties and Investment Limited and Skyview Properties. Skyview and Carlisle belong to the defendant and he declared them as his companies.

“The sum of N125million was taken from Skyview’s account with Access Bank out of which N123.73million amounting to 75 per cent of the price of the property was paid for the property.ý”

He said ý N125million was a loan obtained by Saraki through the account of Skyview’s account with Access Bank.

Wetkas added that the offer letter for the loan was signed for on behalf of Skyview by Saraki’s wife, Toyin.

“The Managing Director of Carlisle and Skybiew, Izuagbe, said the payment for the property was directed by the defendant.

“Izuagbe listed the property (15, McDonald Road, Ikoyi) as part of the properties he was managing on behalf of the defendant.

“The defendant also declared the property in his asset declaration forms of 2011 and 2015.That was the basis for our conclusion that the property belonged to the defendant,” the witness said.

In an effort to distinguish Saraki from the companies, Usoro argued that it was wrong for Wetkas to conclude that the property acquired by companies in which Saraki had interests could be considered his personal property.

He stated that Carlisle and Skyview were both limited liability companies and possess separate personalities from that of the shareholder.

Jacobs interjected and argued that: “The defendant was asked to declare in the asset form the assets he acquired, including the ones he got through nominees. He himself declared the property as his. The issue of legal personality does not arise in view of the asset declaration regime in Nigeria. They don’t go to any issue.ý”

Also, Usoro faulted the prosecution’s claim in count 11 of the charge, in which Saraki was accused of failing to declare his liability of N375million loan he obtained from Guaranty Trust Bank Plc in January 2010.

Usoro said the Senate President was not bound to declare the N375 million as his liability because as of the time he made his end of tenure asset declaration as governor on June 3, 2011 was about N36million.

Answering question from Usoro, Wekas said while it was true that that the debit balance on the account was N36million as of May 31, 2011, Saraki failed to declare the property he allegedly acquired in London with the loan.

“There are two issues. The issue of the loan and the issue of property he used the loan to buy in London.

“Our position is that we are aware that the outstanding balance was not N375million but N36,042,202.04 as at that date.

“But if that loan was taken for something else apart from property, we would not have made an issue out of it.

“But it was taken to buy a property. Our position is that, that property should have been declared in this asset declaration form of 2011. “And if it was declared in the asset declaration form, the source of how the property was acquired would have been declared that the money was sourced through loan,” Wetkas said.

Hearing resumes today.

Why I Withdrew My Support For 'The Demon' Veiled As Subsidy - Tinubu Tells It All

The vocal national leader of the ruling All progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has once again lend his voice in support of the Federal Government's decision to end the subsidy regime when it announced few days ago that the Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, popularly known as petrol would hence be sold at N145 against the initial pump price of N87/per in the new deregulated price regime.

Tinubu via his personal confirmed twitter handle, @AsiwajuTinubu confirmed that though he was truly a proponent of subsidy regime, but current reality has made him redecided against it. The APC henchman in several tweets minutes ago opined that Instead, it is better to end the subsidy and use the funds to establish well-targeted anti-poverty programs that actually assist the people.

Tinubu said; "For some time, I have been a proponent of this action. I believed ending of subsidy was the only sure way to put to sleep the myriad demons that had invaded the subsidy process, sucking the blood of Nigeria, swallowing much of our needed money"

"I am hopeful but also realistic about this measure. I am also mindful of D situation of our people. This change will mean higher fuel costs I would be lying if I said this will cause no pain or dislocation."

" However, the day, hours of waiting for fuel will be a thing of the past. Thus, I ask everyone to take a step back to coolly and objectively assess what has been decided."

"We must not make the mistake of allowing our political and sympathetic attachment to the subsidy blind us to the hard fact that the purpose and benefits of the subsidy had long ago been taken from the common man to reside in the purse of an elite few."

'We cannot persist in this imbalance Instead, it is better to end the subsidy and use the funds to establish well-targeted anti-poverty programs that actually assist the people"

Saraki Helpless, Ouster Looms As Akpabio, 76 Senators Queue Behind Buhari, APC

Saraki Helpless, Ouster Looms As Akpabio, 76 Senators Queue Behind Buhari, APC

The impeachment of the embattled Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki may from now become reality as a total number of 77 senators, including the Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, out of 109 have reportedly pledged their loyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari, and apparently endorsed Saraki's successor, which will likely be from the ruling All Progressives Congress.

As reported by theNicheNG, Saraki is likely to resign after the May Day holiday, but should in case he remain adamant, plot has been perfected to get him impeached, our source says.

New Punch learnt that many senators who have been in solidarity with him since his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), have now agreed to support his impeachment

Saraki has tried without success to let himself off the hook of the CCT where he faces alleged false declaration of assets.

His support base among his colleagues has diminished in the past three weeks, even when some still talk openly of their resolve to stand by him till the end.

Up to 77 senators have reportedly teamed up with President Muhammadu Buhari to get rid of Saraki.
All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, recently told a newspaper that Saraki will not get sympathy from the party in his travails.

Asked if his removal will not provide an opportunity for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to enthrone one of its own as Senate president, Oyegun said the APC would not be bothered by such a scenario playing itself out, but the party is doing everything to ensure the matter does not get to that stage.

A party source told TheNiche that the Presidency, which has distanced itself from Saraki, has engaged in what he called “harvest”.

According to the source, Buhari’s allies are wooing PDP senators, especially those from the South East and South South, to defect to the APC to shore up numerical strength of the party in the Senate.

The APC currently has 64 out of the total 109 Senators – which is short of the two-third majority of 73 to impeach Saraki.

But it seems the “harvest” is paying off as 77 senators from across party lines are now reportedly in Buhari’s column in the Saraki must go campaign.

The senators, allegedly led by Godswill Akpabio (former Akwa Ibom State governor), were said to have held a meeting with Buhari in the Villa on the night of Wednesday, April 27 and pledged their support for his anti-graft war.

“They said they have discovered that Buhari meant well in his anti-corruption war and that they have to support him,” a source disclosed.

Asked when the senators may begin moves to fire Saraki, the source said it may be after the May Day holiday.

Some senators loyal to Saraki had reportedly met in Abuja a few weeks ago and decided to ask him to resign in the interest of the office of the Senate president.

CCT Trial: Tinubu Behind My Ordeal For Denying Him Presidency - Saraki Opens Up

CCT Trial: Tinubu Behind My Ordeal For Denying Him Presidency - Saraki Opens Up

In a veiled manner, but apparently referring to the National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigeria’s Senate President, Bukola Saraki has opened the lid on why he is being prosecuted by some persons in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Prior to the 2015 General Election that ushered in President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, many rife media reports claimed that former Lagos state governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a Muslim had insisted on being Buhari’s running mate but was vehemently opposed by many including Saraki.

Saraki who refrained from mentioning any name claims that because he objected to the aspiration of some persons to be running mate to Buhari in the run up to the 2015 general election, he is being prosecuted.

Responding to an open letter by Dele Momodu, Saraki wrote on his ongoing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, stressing that, it is not a corruption matter as many have come to realise.

On the issue of a Muslim-Muslim ticket he said: “I have also been accused of helping to frustrate some people’s opportunity to emerge as President Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate. But I have no problem with anybody. My concern was that it would not be politically smart of us to run with a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“I doubt if we would have won the election if we had done this, especially after the PDP had successfully framed us a Muslim party. I felt we were no longer in 1993.”

“Perhaps, more than ever before, Nigerians are more sensitive to issues of religious balancing. This, my brother, was my original sin,” he said.

Adding that, “What they say to themselves, among other things, was that if he could conspire against our ambition, then he must not realize his own ambition as well. For me however, I have no regrets about this. I only stood for what I believed was in the best interest of the party and in the best interest of Nigeria.”

It would be recalled that following Muhammadu Buhari’s emergence as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the battle for who will be his running mate was a hot topic among party leaders.

Full Text of Senate President Replies Dele Momodu 's Candid Advice
My dear brother Dele, let me thank you most sincerely for your article last weekend, “My Candid Letter to Saraki.” I take everything you said in that article to heart and I must commend you for your candidness indeed and the sincerity of your intentions.
As you said in your article, you are someone I have known more by reputation than by any personal relationship, until recently when we struck up some personal acquaintance based on our shared political interests, especially during the last presidential election. However, I understand why you had to sound so defensive for knowing me at all and had to publicly map the boundaries of our relationship. We have got to that point in our country when we no longer believe that anyone could stand for anything based on principles and convictions alone. Moreover, in the growing culture of media crucifixion and presumed guilt; it is rare to find a voice like yours that calls for fairness and justice.
I would have simply sent you a text message or call you up for your candid advice to me, which I take seriously. But I feel the need to make some clarifications on some of the issues you raised. One of them was that in seeking to be Senate President, I struck a deal with the PDP and made it possible for one of them to be the Deputy Senate President. I know this is the dominant narrative out there, but it is far from the truth.
I did not do any deal with the PDP. I did not have to because even before the PDP Senators as a group took the decision to support my candidature on the eve of the inauguration of the 8th Senate, 22 PDP Senators had already written a letter supporting me. What I did not envisage was a situation where some members of my party would not be in the chambers that day, especially when the clerk had already received a proclamation from the President authorizing the inauguration of the Senate. Pray, if a team refused to turn up for a scheduled match and was consequently walked over, would it be fair to blame the team that turned up and claimed victory? I believe those that made it possible for PDP to claim the DSP position were those who decided to hold a meeting with APC senators elsewhere at the time they ought to be in the chambers. What the PDP Senators did was to take advantage of their numerical strength at the material time. They simply lined up behind Senator Ike Ikweremadu while those of us from APC voted for Senator Ali Ndume. It was a game of numbers, and we were hopelessly outnumbered. If the PDP had nominated their own candidate for the Senate Presidency position that day, they would have won. It was as simple as that.
Secondly, I don’t know if you were aware that in the build up to Senate inauguration, the National Working Committee of the APC sent two signals. The first signal specified how leadership positions in the National Assembly have been zoned. While we were trying to give effect to this decision, the second signal came, which contained names of people to which these zoned position had been allocated. What was not acknowledged was that the President of the Senate is not an executive president. He is primarily one of 109 senators. Therefore, I cannot decide by myself who gets what in the Senate. Therefore, when they said I defied party directive in the choice of principal officers, they are invariably ascribing to me the power that I did not have.
My dear brother, most people talk about the Senate Presidency position, but this was not my only offence. I have also been accused of helping to frustrate some people’s opportunity to emerge as President Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate. But I have no problem with anybody. My concern was that it would not be politically smart of us to run with a Muslim-Muslim ticket. I doubt if we would have won the election if we had done this, especially after the PDP had successfully framed us a Muslim party. I felt we were no longer in 1993. Perhaps, more than ever before, Nigerians are more sensitive to issues of religious balancing. This, my brother, was my original sin. What they say to themselves, among other things, was that if he could conspire against our ambition, then he must not realize his own ambition as well. For me however, I have no regrets about this. I only stood for what I believed was in the best interest of the party and in the best interest of Nigeria.
Now to the substantive issue of my trial. As you rightly noted, this trial is not about corruption. And I am happy that since my trial started, people who have followed the proceedings have now understood better what the whole thing is about. I have had opportunity to declare my assets four times since 2003. Over those years, the Code of Conduct Bureau had examined my claims. There was no time that they raised any issues with me on any item contained in my declarations over those twelve years. This is why you should be surprised that while I am being tried by the Code of Conduct Tribunal, the witness and the evidence supplied against me were all from EFCC.
Like you, I have an abiding faith in the judiciary. May God forbid the day that we would give up on our judicial system. However, the onus is not on me to prove that I have confidence in the judiciary; the burden is on my prosecutors to prove to the world that justice is done in my case. If the process of fighting corruption is itself corrupt, then whatever victory is recorded would remain tainted and puerile!
Some people have wondered, why has Saraki been “jumping” from one court to another instead of facing his trial? To those people, I would say that I have only gone to those courts in search of justice. Strange things have happened, and they are still happening. For example, Section 3(d) of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act states that the Bureau shall refer any breach or non-compliance to the Tribunal. However, where the person concerned makes a written admission of the breach, no reference to the Tribunal shall be necessary. It was on this basis that the case against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was dismissed in 2011, by this same judge in this same Tribunal on the grounds that he was not given an opportunity to deny or admit to any breach before he was brought before the tribunal. This was the ruling that I relied on in making my case. But what did the judge say? That he had judged in error in 2011 and he had since realized his error and departed from it. My question is whether a Tribunal of first instance has the power to reverse itself. I should expect that everyone would be worried if justice is applied differently to different people. However, in spite of my fears, I remain hopeful. Why? Because the judiciary does not end with this Tribunal.
Do you know the genesis of my real problems with President Goodluck Jonathan? I have had a touchy relationship with him, but the turning point was in September 2011 when I moved a motion on the floor of the Senate that exposed the N2.3 trillion fuel subsidy racket. I remain proud that I was the Senator that blew the lid on the most elaborate corruption scheme ever in this country. But after that I became a marked man. My security was withdrawn. I was invited and re-invited by the EFCC and the Special Fraud Unit. I was even declared wanted at a point. I believe I am still one of the most investigated former governors in this country. I have no doubt that if the Jonathan government was able to find anything against me, they would not have allowed me to go unpunished.
Let me make this point clearly. I do not expect to be shielded from prosecution because of my contribution to APC, if there was genuine basis for such action to be taken against me. But I have every reason to expect not to be persecuted by the party that I contributed so much to build. The New PDP may not have given APC victory in 2015, but it was an important factor in the dynamics that produced that victory. And with all sense of modesty, I was an important factor in the formation of New PDP; in leading that group to the APC; in ensuring our group’s support for the candidate during the primaries and in mobilizing substantial resources for the election. For these, I have not expected any special compensation. Rather, I only expect to be treated like every loyal party member and accorded the right to freely aspire!
Some people have complained that I have been taken Senators with me to my trial. But I did not force them to follow me. The Senators have freely accompanied me to the Tribunal not because they are loyal to me as Abubakar Bukola Saraki, but because they are committed to the principle that produced me as the President of the Senate. The same principle that produced Ike Ekweremadu as Deputy Senate President and produced Ali Ndume as Majority Leader. They see all of us in the Senate leadership as manifestation of their jealously guarded right to freely choose their own leaders. Because they know they made us their leaders without any external interference; they are confident that they retain the power to remove us whenever they so wish. They also know what this trial is all about. They believe I am being victimized because they have expressed their right to choose their own leadership. This is why I am not in any way perturbed by my absence in the chambers during this trial. Because I was not imposed on the Senate, I feel confident that the Senate will protect its own choice whether I am present or not. It is never about me. It is about the independence of the legislature. It has always been so since 1999. It is so today and it would be so in 2019, it would be so in 2023, and as long as we practice a democracy that operates on the principle of separation of powers.
My dear brother, let me end by observing that I am not alone in this trial. On trial with me in this process is the entire judicial system. On trial with me are our entire anti-corruption institutions and our avowed commitment to honestly fight corruption. On trial with me is our party’s promise to depart from the ways of the past, a promise that Nigerians voted for. And I dare say, on trial with me is our media; and their ethical commitment to report fairly and objectively. In the end, it is my earnest hope that whatever we do will ultimately ennoble our country.

Buhari In Serious Problem, Caged By 8 Powerful Men - Amechi

Chief Mbazulike Amechi, an elder statesman and frontline nationalist has said President Muhammadu Buhari probably in serious problems as he is caged by some unnamed 8 powerful men with his cabinet and his party, All Progressives Congress, APC.

Chief Amechi in a recent interview with the DailySun Newspaper at his country home, Ukpor, Anambra State, speaks on the state of the state of the nation, insisting that Nigeria is at war and, therefore, should embrace a “declared or undeclared State of Emergency” to confront the “war” headlong.

In a frank and sartorial review of the many problems of the nation , especially under the current regime of Muhammadu Buhari, the first republic Minister of Aviation accuses the President of not showing enough capacity that he can change Nigeria; a situation, he says, has fuelled the belief of an “imminent total collapse of the nation.”

The nonagenarian regrets that the setback in the fight against corruption is that “there is corruption in Buhari’s government.”

He reveals that Buhari is shackled by eight powerful men who may do something to him if he fails to toe their way, wondering what he will tell the three founding fathers of the nation( Zik, Awo, And Ahmadu Bello) when he finally meets them.

Below is an excerpt from the interview in relation to 8 powerfl men who have caged the President:

If you meet president Buhari today what will you tell him?

"I will tell him, my dear General, sorry Mr president, are you not worried about the state of the country, which we handed over to you on a platter of gold in May last year? What I will tell him depends on his attitude to the situation. I am not near enough to know how free he is because you may have a president who is shackled by lieutenants and colleagues in the party. And he, being a military man more than a politician may not understand the game very well. There are some people who get rich in the midst of crisis. "

"There are people who are empowering themselves by the present chaotic situation in the country. And if such people encircle a president, that president is in serious trouble. I don’t know if Buhari is in that state now. But there are some people even outside his cabinet who are very powerful. They have stolen so much money in this country that if he doesn’t take care they might even do something to him. There are such people. There are eight of them in his government; in his political party, who are so powerful in every way that if he doesn’t take their way they will do something to him."

Who are these powerful men?

You know them. You are a journalist.

I don’t know them.
