BREAKING: Court Rules Sheriff Is Authentic PDP Chairman, Orders INEC To Accept Only His Guber Candidates

BREAKING: Court Rules Sheriff Is Authentic PDP Chairman, Orders INEC To Accept Only His Guber Candidates

 Senator Ali Modu Sheriff
Following yesterday's court ruling which sacked the embattled national chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, another Federal High Court in Abuja today has ruled that Sheriff is the authentic PDP Chairman, thereby ordering the Independent National Electoral Commission to only accept the list of Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidates for the forthcoming elections in Edo and Ondo states from the Modu Sheriff-led faction of the party.

Justice Okon Abang, delivering ruling in an interlocutory application filed by two governorship aspirants on the platform of the PDP in Edo and Ondo states, granted an injunction restraining INEC, the PDP and their agents from dealing with or according any facility required by law to any other persons or group than the Sheriff-led National Working Committee of the party.

The plaintiffs in the suit in a PDP governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Chief Benson Akingboye, and one of his counterparts in Edo State, Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma.

Justice Abang ruled that his restraining orders against the INEC and the PDP would subsist pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit, FHC/ABJ/CS/439/2016, filed by the plaintiffs.

INEC is the 1st defendant while PDP is the second defendant.

The Federal High Court’s restraining order came barely 24 hours after Justice Valentine Ashi of a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Apo, Abuja, delivered a judgment sacking all national officers of the party who assumed office on the basis of an illegal amendment of Article 46(7) of the party’s Constitution.

Sheriff, who is in a battle for the control of the party with the Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee of the party that was recently set up at a national convention in Port Harcourt, benefitted from the said illegal amendment of the party’s constitution.

Consequently, the former Borno State governor is believed to have been sacked by the Wednesday’s court judgment.

But ruling on the interlocutory application on Thursday, Justice Abang directed INEC and the PDP and their agents to “recognise, deal with and accord all facilities required by law “(regarding the gubernatorial elections to be conducted by INEC in Edo and Ondo states) to the Ali Modu Sheriff, Prof Wale Oladipo and Fatai Adeyanju led NWC”.

Justice Abang further directed INEC and the PDP to “reject and ignore any activity (including primary elections/congresses for the nomination of candidates of the PDP for the gubernatorial elections in Edo and Ondo states, purportedly conducted on behalf of the 2nd defendant (PDP) by any other persons or group of persons other than the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, Prof Wale Oladipo and Fatai Adeyanju led NWC.”

BREAKING: Gov. Fayose's Account Frozen By EFCC

BREAKING: Gov. Fayose's Account Frozen By EFCC

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes commission has frozen his personal account with Zenith Bank Plc.

Fayose said this on Monday in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

This followed his inability to operate the account when he visited the bank personally.

He told newsmen that officials of the Bank told him that an embargo has been placed on his account.

Fayose had been having a running battle with the EFCC over the funding of his governorship campaign in 2014.

There had been accusations that the campaign was funded with funds from the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Fayose had denied this, saying his campaign funds were generated from the ordinary people who wanted him in power.

When contacted, the spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, said he was not aware of the accusation levelled against the Commission by Fayose.

Voting began at about 6pm and ended at 10:50pm.

A total of 2582 delegates were accredited to vote in the governorship primaries of the All Progressive Congress in Edo State.

These are the number of persons that presented themselves for accreditation out of a 2771 names on the delegate list.

Former lawmaker, Hon Razak Bello-Osagie described the party primaries as a show of the party’s democratic values, The Nation Newspaper reports

He said, “This is internal democracy of the party. So, I do not expect, quite naturally, any rancorous situation. Imaginary boundaries within the party should be removed so that we can have a formidable platform for the general elections. I do not see any reason we should be decipating energies on those things that will not reinforce the integrity of what we represent as change agents.

“We need a candidate whose activities are predicated on vision, purpose, integrity, leadership and service. It is a family affair, so I expect that the process will go on peacefully to the glory God Almighty and to the benefit of humanity.

Agbomehere had earlier said he would accept the outcome of the primaries as a loyal partyman that supports unity of the party.

Hon Philip Shaibu representing Estako Federal Constituency said, “That is how I see Obaseki, as one person that will take such top decisions and will continue with the infrastructural development that the governor has laid.”

On the contrary, report according to Sunday Sun suggests that the primary was marred by allegations and counter allegations of bribing delegates with huge sums of money.

The delegates were alleged to have induced with large sums of money ranging from N100000 to N450000, in what was regarded by many as competition among the aspirants as to who would be the highest bidder.

Tension heightened last night as some of the aspirants engaged Governor Adams Oshiomhole in hot exchange over alleged interference in the nomination process. The exchange was intermittent between the governor and Imasuagbon, one of the aspirants.

Imasuagbon was later joined by the deputy governor and former Minister of Works, Chris Ogiemwonyi, both of whom were displeased with the governor’s frequent movement among the delegates while voting was on. It took a great effort of both security agents and some leaders to calm Imasuagbon down.

At a stage, the atmosphere in the stadium became charged, forcing the chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee, Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari to make a public announcement, urging all delegates who has voted to leave the stadium. He was supported by the state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, who also asked delegates that had voted to leave the venue, threatening: “Or we will leave with you.”

However, he warned against the repeat of what happened in Bayelsa when thugs took over the gubernatorial primaries of the party.

BREAKING: Ambode 'Sacks' 57 Lagos Local Government Bosses (Updated)

AMBODE
Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Thursday evening sacked the Executive Secretaries of the 57 Local Governments Councils and Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs in the State.

This follows the resolution of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday that the goveenor should dissolve the LGs/LCDAs Caretaker Committees.

Ambode, thus, on Thursday evening approved the immediate dissolution of the Caretaker Committees.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr Tunji Bello, the Governor also directed the Executive Secretaries to hand over the reins of administration to the Head of Administration in each of the Council Areas.

Thursday’s dissolution of the Caretaker committees is preparatory to the holding of elections into the 57 Council Areas by the State Government and ensuring that the necessary machineries are put in place preparatory to the elections.

Earlier on Thursday, the Lagos State House of Assembly had demanded the sack of the 57 Executive Secretaries of the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas of the state by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

The lawmakers who made the demand following a debate at their Thursday plenary gave Governor Ambode the go ahead to appoint sole administrators to run the councils.

The lawmakers, however, stated that whoever is appointed sole administrator of any of the councils should not have the intention of contesting the coming Local Government election in the state.

The House ruled that the incoming Sole Administrators must not embark on new projects, but concentrate on payment of staff salaries and debts incurred by their predecessors.

The lawmakers’ decision was sequel to the motion moved by the its Deputy Speaker, Wasiu Sanni-Eshinlokun. The motion was seconded by the Deputy Majority Leader, Olumuyiwa Jimoh.

The State House of Assembly had also on April 22 this year passed into law a bill recommending a four year tenure for elected Local Government helmsmen instead of the three years tenure that hitherto obtained.

It would be recalled that the Caretaker Committees which was headed by Executive Secretaries were inaugurated by former Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola on 5 January, 2015.
