As part of measures to boost tourism and enhance movement of goods and services, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday commissioned the newly completed Imeke-Ajido Bridge, a major link bridge in Badagry axis of the State.

The bridge, which is 500metres long, was designed with sidewalk on both sides.

Addressing a mammoth crowd of joyous residents who came out to receive him after walking on the bridge, Governor Ambode said the delivery of the project was a promise kept and an effort aimed at making life comfortable for the people.

Before the construction of the bridge by the State Government, the people of the area were said to have been subjected to untold hardship trying to connect Ajido town to Imeke, all suburbs in Badagry.

The Governor also approved immediate commencement of work on the second phase of the project which is 17km network of roads connecting Aradagun to Whispering Palms.

The Governor said: "Apart from this bridge that we have just commissioned, take the second phase which connects this place to Whispering Palms as being approved immediately and work should commence immediately.

"It is good that the Kabiyesi is here. The last time we came here was sometime in July and which we said this bridge should be constructed by CCECC.

"Today, we are happy to see that the bridge has been completed and it is hereby commissioned for use from this moment onwards while we believe strongly also that before the end of June 2017, we should have a very good road to Whispering Palms which will also improve on the tourism potentials of Badagry and it will also improve the economy of this axis."

Earlier, while briefing the Governor, Deputy Project Manager for the Imeke-Ajido-Aradagun project, Mr Zannu Thomas said the bridge was delivered according to specification, adding that the second phase, as ordered by the Governor, would be completed in the next six months.

He said about 3,000 interlocking blocks have already been moulded for the work to commence, while work has also commenced on the drainage.

Responding on behalf of the elated residents, Ahoru of Ajido Kingdom, Oba Saheed Sedono Adamson commended Governor Ambode for the people-centered projects he has been carrying out in the State, and thanked him especially for the newly constructed bridge.

We are so glad and happy with what the Governor is doing. This bridge commissioned today is the first of its kind in this area. We are so grateful.

"The Governor has also approved the construction of this road down from Aradagun to Whispering Palms. We are indeed grateful to him.

"May God continue to keep him and bless him for us and we assure him that in this area, by God's grace, we pray that his second term will be greater than this and God will continue to push him up," the monarch said.

So Sad! Hungry 7yrs Old Boy Set Ablaze To Death For Stealing Garry In Lagos

A viral picture of a 7 years old unidentified little boy set ablaze and burnt to death by heartless mob for attempting to steal garri (cassava flour) currently trending on social media, facebook to be precise.

According to 247 Nigeria News Update, the little boy, approximately 7-years-old, was beaten to coma and later burnt to death in Badagry Lagos State for attempting to steal garri.

The yet to be identified boy was on the verge of stealing garri from a shop in Badagry but he ran out of luck. The small boy was beaten black and blue, tied up and set ablaze by the angry mob, 247NigeriaNewsUpdate detailed.

According to The Nation Newspaper version of the incident, the video of a child allegedly lynched and set ablaze in Lagos has caused outrage on social media with Nigerians demanding the immediate prosecution of his killers.

In the short video, the boy said to be seven-year-old was caught while trying to steal people’s phones and money at Orile-Iganmu. Another report alleged that the incident occurred at Badagry, adding that the child was not the thief but only attempted to stop three men who later fled.

Although it could not be ascertained where the incident occurred and what led to the mob action, the video, pictures of the incident showed blood gushing from the kid’s head as his attackers meted jungle justice on him.

After beating him up mercilessly, a tyre was forced through his head and he was burnt to death. Efforts to get the information from those that originally posted it on Saturday proved abortive as it was discovered that the information has been deleted.

However, an online site, Ibommedia, screen munched the pictures posted by one Oladipupo Raphael Dare captioned: “Lagos thief rest in bad. Good bye to you ooo”.

His post sparked condemnation from his Facebook friends who believed it was inappropriate and insensitive.

The public outcry over the video moved the police in Lagos to appeal to people with information on the incident to assist. It was gathered that both the Divisional Police Officers at Orile and Badagry were on their toes on Wednesday trying to locate where the mob action took place within their jurisdiction without success. Contacted, the command’s spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police (SP) said: “Studying the video to ascertain if it occurred. Got the report through social media. If established that incident actually occurred, the command would ensure that those behind it are fished out and brought to justice. Watch Video Here

Badagry is a mixed society. As a matter of fact, Badagry is indisputably one of the most friendly and diversified communities in Nigeria. It is a privilege growing up in Badagry where we have a lot of people from different tribes and ethnic groups who are indigenes (not just residents).

We have the opportunities of experiencing the Multi-Cultural life style of the Aladas, Whemes, Whlas, Thevis, Ga/Ewe, Tolis, Whedas etc among the GUNS. While we have the Oyos, Egbas, Egbados, Aworis, Ife people etc who forms the Yoruba cultural heritage of Badagry, also the Tapas, Ilajes, are well represented in Badagry as indigenes.

Therefore, Badagry is one of the most cultural mixed societies in Nigeria (Thank God for our forbearers’ hospitability spirit). This existing evidence nullifies the wrong and baseless belief that Badagry doesn’t welcome strangers and development, and we must be careful and watchful of the kind of development we want because over the years our communities had suffered neglect due to bitter politics and we are now desperate for development.

As a Sustainable Development Strategist, I have advocated and argued on several occasion that Ikorodu is GROWING and not DEVELOPING and the effect of this wrong growth will be too much to manage at the fullness of time if it is not addressed. I am NOT against new town developments or influx of people to our towns but it must be regulated. The government must be ahead of the growth and the communities must strive to preserve the values and Heritage of the people.

All these values were suspended in Ikorodu and the people are paying direly now all in the name of “we are open to development”. The new Ayangburen tried to restore cultural order by using some of those measures that they once considered, believed and treated as “it is only in Badagry that they still do that” to check the ugly trend but it is too late. The Oba ordered Oro rites but it couldn’t help the situation.
My fellow Badagrians,I understand and share the call for development but we must be careful of growing communities of thugs.

I have a great concern about the GROWTH not DEVELOPMENT of some of our communities like Aradagun, Toll-Gate Area, Age Mowo, Moasfejo, Morobgo, Seme (Oglogbo, Ashipa & Pengbo) and Magbon. In the name of development and expansion, these communities are becoming “ANYTHING GOES”. Our people should be careful by preserving those VALUES that made us BADAGRY. It is a fact that Development and Globalization always comes with its disadvantages but we must also be equal to the task.

The people carrying out Ikorodu massacre today are the same people that the resident sees every day and conscious of their operation in the area but for a long time NOBODY consider them wrong or dangerous until they started killing the residents.

Today, we cannot pretend that the trend of social and security events in these above-mentioned Badagry communities deserves to be looked into. Available crime and security data in Badagry suggests these communities are vulnerable, but you dire not raise it, the elites there who are at more risk will call you names like Locals, Primitive, Fetish, Conservative e.t.c. and their community leaders there call it development.

It is noteworthy and right to commend communities like Ibereko, Badagry Town, Topo, Ilogbo-Eremi and few others; they are on top of the situation. Other communities like Araromi-Ale, Ilado, and Ajara are gradually going out of control (looking at the lawlessness around Madam Grace, 100 Shops Complex thru L.A. School,Iluda, Tande Junction Area) and nobody is seen or heard to be checking this menace all in the name of development.

Development doesn’t mean just the influx of people or businesses but the protection of our heritage values, our future and that of our children (remember our neighboring local government that became tenants in their own lands).

My living experience in Europe revealed that countries like the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and the likes remained the most diversified societies in the world today yet they still protect their heritage values. But Countries like France, Belgium,USA & Co that careless about strange culture all in the name of FREE SOCIETY and CIVILIZATION are paying heavily today with their homeland security. May God console the victims and their families.

Development is coming to Badagry now, are we ready for the effects of development? I call on the Zangans, Oga Ilus, interest groups,Youth organisations and relevant government bodies to be ahead of the situation. Always remember: THERE IS JUST ONE BADAGRY, AND WE MUST PROTECT IT. Thanks for your time.

I do not see disunity in Badagry – Aholu of Ajido Kingdom

I do not see disunity in Badagry – Aholu of Ajido Kingdom

Aholu Saheed Sedonu Adamson,
On Tuesday 28 June 2016, representatives from the United Voice of Badagry People Initiative visited Aholu Saheed Sedonu Adamson, the Aholu of Ajido Kingdom, Topon Toyiaga 1. Following his coronation earlier in June of this year, UVOB found the Aholu of Ajido Kingdom in good spirits.

Warmly received at the Aholu’s palace, UVOB’s representatives began their interview with the Oba of Ajido Kingdom. He spoke at length concerning fostering unity in Badagry, youth empowerment as well as the recent discovery of crude oil in Badagry.

Q. On behalf of UVOB and fellow Badagrians, we extend our congratulations to you on your coronation and thank you for giving us the opportunity to be present. How do you feel after taking up the responsibility of becoming the Oba of Ajido Kingdom? You must be overwhelmed…

I feel excited because I know this is God’s making, because God is the only one who ordains His King. I feel overwhelmed and I’m grateful for the acceptance of my people – it’s a call to duty to serve my people to the best of my ability.

Q. As you are aware, Badagry faces underdevelopment and is still struggling to create unity in its communities. What are your views on fostering unity and attracting development in Ajido and across Badagry?

My intention is to work with other Kings in Badagry Local Government and possibly within Lagos State to promote unity, to promote development, to promote progress within the community, to foster unity among us and to ensure that we do things in accordance with the law of the land so that whatever we do, whatever we set our programme on, we see ourselves in Badagry as one – Egun speaking people and Awori speaking people. For me, I don’t like discrimination. I always look at us as Lagosians working for the common good of our people. That is how I want to foster unity amongst the Obas and amongst the people in the community.

Q. In terms of youth empowerment, how do you intend to help the youth in Ajido?

When I was installed as Aholu, I met many youths in Ajido either in clubs or in different fields of endeavour. During their visits to pay homage, we discussed a lot and that made me say that I would definitely form a committee for youth empowerment .What are we looking at in this committee? We are looking to empower our people, to see if we can bring NGOs to ensure that yes, they all have work, they all have education, they all have skills so at the end of the day we can harmonize all these things together to bring in investors, as we are talking to some investors now to come and invest in Ajido.

We have the Gas Pipeline in Ajido right now. We want to talk to them to at least make sure that most of our youths that are graduates and have skills are employed into this organisation. We have Asphalt here too. I will talk to them to assist our youth, the graduates and the skilled to get employment. Apart from that, we are talking to some investors to come and invest. Not only that, I have discussed with some youths to not be idle, we have farmlands so they can go into farming or agriculture to help themselves, because right now I know that white collar jobs are not there anymore. One should try as much as possible to be self-employed. Those are the things I have been trying to advise the youths in my domain and I think they are responding positively to these calls. All hands must be on deck as we are talking to them, and I know by God’s Grace, things will work well for our youths this time around.

Q. Some communities are disunited in Badagry, what do you think the problem is and how do you think it can be resolved?

As far as I know, I have not seen any disunity amongst any community or amongst us – so far so good in Badagry Local Government Area. Why I am saying this is because I visited some Obas immediately after my installation – after my iwuye ceremony. We were talking together to unite ourselves to ensure there is peace and harmony in our domain. At my last meeting with the Oba of Imeke, we discussed at length how to ensure we tighten up security in terms of some youths that were into bad habits and we said that it was going to be a collective effort. I visited Alapa, and we discussed the same. Unity is the key to any development anywhere we live. But so far so good, I have not seen any disunity amongst Badagry’s people. I think we are one and we will continue to be one.

Q. What are your views concerning the recent crude oil discovered in Badagry?

I’m grateful that you raised this question. After my installation or rather before my installation, we’d heard of it, of Aje Oil owned by Folawuyo and some other group of companies. But I must tell you that Badagry is the host community – that is the Badagry Local Government Area. Folawuyo Drilling Company is opposite Ajido and it’s about 12 miles within the sea shores of Ajido. But so far so good – some Obas have come together and approached Folawuyo. From what we’ve gathered so far, we’ve wrote to them and they’ve replied. Very soon, we’re going to meet them to know the benefits and what they have in store for our youths and for the community, I don’t want to talk too much about them, but like I said we are about to meet them, may be in a week’s time. It’s going to be a meeting between the Obas in the Badagry Local Government Area and Folawuyo. After our discussion, I believe something positive will come out of it for Badagry.

The Aholu was pleased with the role UVOB played in Badagry as a non-governmental organisation and he hopes that initiatives such as UVOB will continue to make a difference in Badagry.

The visit concluded with thanks.

The prediction that there would be high competition among marketers and fuel stations when the fuel subsidy was removed by the Federal Government may have begun to come to pass as a fuel station in Badagry, Lagos state currently on petrol sale promotion of N144 per litre against the general N145 per litre.

A senior officer of the fuel station, Jabal Global Oil, Badagry, who preferred anonymity  said they are actually on bonanza sale of N144 per liter.

Another staff, suspected to be the supervisor of the station also confirmed the bonanza sale and further said he learnt a station is currently selling petrol at N143 per litre.

At the station, the sale representatives were seen even dozing off as very few motorists go in and out to buy the products without any hitch.

The pump meters at the station have been adjusted to N144 per litre.

Dr Ibe Kachikwu, the Minister of State for Petroleum, who also doubles as the Group Managing Director of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC has earlier assured Nigerians that pump price of premium motor spirit (PMS) otherwise called petrol, will fall drastically in the next six months.

The Federal Government had announced an end to subsidy regime and capped pump price of petrol at N145 per litre.

During the interview, Kachikwu said; "if you do a price review after six months, you will be amazed at how low the price would have become. We expect the prices to go down because we have provided an opportunity for people to take advantage of government liberalisation policy of the downstream sector and eliminate inefficiencies and losses."

When asked about the reason for the government to have fixed the pump price of petrol in a deregulated market, he explained that "the intention of the government was to achieve what was achieved in diesel by allowing everybody to be able to bring in products and promote competition."

"However, we want to make sure that at the initial stage marketers do not take undue advantage of the situation. That's why we said nobody should sell above N145 per litre.

"If you look at consumption of diesel, it is not as competitive as petrol. What we have done is an upper cap, but we have not told them what price to sell. We expect that efficiency and market forces will determine their pieces.

"You know we have a price band of N135 to N145 per litre, but reality is that those are guideline prices," he said.

Furthermore, he stated that other factors that may affect pricing include sources of foreign exchange, level of efficiency and how much a marketer is investing in logistics like storage and distribution.

When asked if the government has put measures in place to check marketers who may want to sell at above price cap of N145 per litre, he stated that he expects competition to bridge the gaps and eliminate abnormal profit.

Furthermore, he stated that "the difference you saw during the previous price regime of N87 per litre is just what we are trying to address because of arbitrage."

"The individuals that bought NNPC products and sell at other prices will now start buying their own products and sell on their own. Even NNPC retail stations will sell at competitive prices.

"Within six months, you will be seeing differentials of N1 to N2 per litre but as you go into interlands, NNPC will tend to be selling at between N120 to N130 per litre.

"Refineries will also become competitive. Refineries have not worked efficiently in the past because petroleum products are largely subsidized. Nobody wants to invest in refineries and at the end of the day, the government bears the brunt.

"We will sell the little a produce which is less than 10million per day and we will well at competitive prices," he said.
