Kanu's BIAFRA Group Is LEGAL - Justice Nyako Rules .. Reveals Why She Struck Out 6 Charges Against The 'Jewish-Nigerian'

Kanu's BIAFRA Group Is LEGAL - Justice Nyako Rules .. Reveals Why She Struck Out 6 Charges Against The 'Jewish-Nigerian'

Nnamdi Kanu
Justice Binta Nyako of Abuja Federal High Court has ruled yesterday that the Indigenous People of BIAFRA, IPOB champion by Nnamdi Kanu is a leorganizationtion

The Judge also struck-out six of the 11-count criminal charge the Federal Government preferred against the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu and three other pro-Biafra agitators.

The Judge, in a ruling delivered by Justice Binta Nyako, also said the fact that IPOB was not an organisation registered in Nigeria did not make it an illegal society. “It may be true that IPOB is not registered in Nigeria, but does that make it an illegal organisation?”, the judge queried.

Justice Nyako held that the Federal Government failed to prove that IPOB, allegedly managed by Kanu and his co-defendants — Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi, is an unlawful society.

Justice Nyako said the six charges she struck out were not supported by the proof of evidence the prosecution adduced against the defendants, adding that none of the six charges established a prima-facie criminal case against the defendants.

Whereas the court branded some of the terminated charges as “hollow” and “scanty”, it however sustained five other charges against the defendants.

For instance, the court noted that the Federal Government failed to produce any evidence to support allegation in count nine of the charge that the 2nd defendant, Onwudiwe, as National Coordinator of IPOB and the 4th defendant, Nwawuisi, who was serving as MTN Field Maintenance Engineer in Enugu State, conspired to install Radio Biafra transmitters on MTN masts sited at Ogui Road near St. Michael Church, Enugu, having agreed for the payment and receipt of N150, 000.

So also was the allegation that Onwudiwe committed an act preparatory to an act of terrorism by carrying out research for the purpose of identifying and gathering improvised explosive devices, IEDs, making materials to be used against the Nigerian security operatives carrying out their lawful duties.

According to Justice Nyako, the Federal Government ought to have charged Onwudiwe before a Magistrate Court over his alleged intention to commit an act of terrorism.

She said the government did not establish any ingredient of crime in its allegation that Kanu had between March and April 2015, imported into Nigeria, a radio transmitter known as TRAM 50L and kept it in a container that was left in custody of the 3rd defendant, Madubugwu, at Ubuluisiuzor in Ihiala LGA of Anambra State.

Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, this morning gathered at the Federal High Court Abuja, on Jewish attires to witness the court case of their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Recall that early last month, some Jewish scientists stormed Nnewi, Anambra State and conducted Deoxyribonucleic Acid, DNA, test on interested citizens of Igbo origin to determine the Jewish relationship with Igbo tribe.

Kanu, who has been held by the Federal Government and its security agencies since October 15, 2015 over treason and felony charges, will continue his defense today.

Last week, the pro-Biafra group issued fresh warning that any politician who had a hand in the persecution of their leader will die.

Also just yesterday, a former Governor of the Central Bank, CBN, ‎Chukwuma Soludo, added his voice to those demanding the “immediate” release of the incarcerated leader of IPOB.

BIAFRA Secessionists, IPOB Holds Trump Solidarity Rally In Nigeria

BIAFRA Secessionists, IPOB Holds Trump Solidarity Rally In Nigeria

IPOB Trump Biafra rally
The Nigeria's secessionist, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called on  Biafrans and other family members all over West Africa to join in a peaceful solidarity rally for President-elect of the United States of America (USA), Donald Trump.

The rally is scheduled for  Friday, January 20, at Igweocha, Port-Harcourt, River State, Daily Sun reports

The group said the solidarity rally will be in support of Trump’s swearing-in as the 45th US president and for the release of its leader, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu and others detained illegally in all the Department of States Services (DSS) cells and prisons across Nigeria.

A statement by the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Mr. Emma Powerful said the rally will also be for Biafrans, friends of Biafra and lovers of freedom world wide.

“This peaceful rally for Trump in Igweocha on Friday,  will feature display of pictures of our able leader, Mazi Kanu, those detained illegally with him and pictures of president Donald Trump.

“As usual, IPOB will maintain strict discipline of non-violence and non-engagement with army and police.

“However, we must reiterate that should soldiers fire at peaceful protesters, heaven will fall.

“The non-violent position of our great movement will be revoked with immediate effect.

“Our only interest is to exercise our right to peaceful protest and lawful assembly as recognised in the law.

“(Rivers) Governor Nyesom Wike is hereby reminded of his responsibility to protect the lives of those on peaceful rally.

“He should not allow himself to be used.

“We have not forgiven him for his past actions, so, he must be careful not to allow a breakdown of law and order or  any provocative behaviour by the army.

“Peaceful rallies and marches are recognised in law all over the world, so, we can’t stop exercising this because of intimidation and brutality.
“IPOB appreciates the wise counsel and support of our friends.

“Freedom is not negotiable because right to self-determination is inalienable,” said Powerful.

IPOB Threats: Jittery Buhari, Ministers 'Run' For Dire Lives From Southeast Summits
Punch Newspaper - President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, stayed away from the maiden South-East Economic and Security Summit in Enugu, about 48 hours after some pro-Biafra agitators warned him not to set foot on Igbo land.

Buhari was to be the chief guest of honour at the summit, which held in the Enugu State Government House, according to the programme of the event.

Although the President was expected at the event — as suggested by several speakers who spoke during the programme, he neither showed up nor was he represented.

Also, ministers from the South-East, who were slated to make presentations at the event, all stayed away.

A pro-Biafran group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, had, in the build-up to the summit, issued a statement, warning Buhari to stay away from the South-East — in his own interest.

IPOB, whose leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is being held by the Federal Government, accused Buhari of “persecution”, and threatened “a breakdown of law and order” should the President attend the summit.

Although no mention of the IPOB warning was made throughout the opening session of the summit, Buhari’s absence was a major talking point as several speakers expressed surprise at the development.

Present at the ceremony, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, in a presentation on “Sustainable development: Zero hunger,” said the South-East could become the food basket of the country if the various states collaborated to develop agriculture.

He also canvassed cooperation among the governors in the region on other developmental issues.

Obasanjo said, “We have a challenge of youth unrest which is understandable because these are young people who have education without employment, and skills without production. So, you should expect some agitation from them.

“We cannot leave these children. We must take responsibility.”

Chairman of the South-East Security and Economic Summit, Prof. Barth Nnaji, who is a former minister of power, observed in his opening remarks, “We have not seen the President.”

In his address, Nnaji thanked the Enugu State Government for undertaking to sponsor some aspects of the President’s visit.

Also, at the beginning of his address, the chairman of the event, a former Commonwealth Secretary General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, drew attention to Buhari’s absence.

“I was going to start by saluting the representative of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but I have not been told of such a person,” the retired diplomat said.

Anyaoku went further to express regrets that Buhari was not present at the event.

Rounding off his address with a call for the restructuring of the country, he said, “I had hoped that Mr. President would be here to hear me.

“Like Cato, the Roman senator who always ended his speeches by calling for the destruction of Carthage until his call was heeded, I will restate my assertion that if the Nigerian federation is restructured to have less federating units, this country will achieve greater stability and faster pace of development, and there will no longer be a need for the Federal Government to bailout many of the non-viable 36 states.”

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, observed that the programme printed by the organisers of the summit did not include his photograph and also did not list him among those to speak at the event.

Ekweremadu also spoke on the need to restructure the country, stressing that the current system was not working.

In separate presentations, the governors of Enugu, Abia and Ebonyi states, and the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, drew attention to challenges and opportunities in their various areas.

They also spoke of the need to work together to develop the South-East.

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, did not attend the summit, and was also not represented.

Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, urged the Federal Government to address the various challenges besetting the South-East, including the bad state of federal roads, the menace posed by herdsmen and the need to upgrade the runway and other infrastructure at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

Former Vice-President Alex Ekwueme was among the dignitaries at the summit.

Incarcerated leader of the Indigeneous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu has described President Muhammadu Buhari as a “mad man” who cannot jail him.

Kanu, who also doubles as the Director of Radio Biafra made the remark at an Abuja Federal High Court in Abuja during his trial on Tuesday.

The IPOB leader alongside Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi, are currently facing trial on an 11 count charge bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony and publication of defamatory matter.

Reacting to Justice Binta Nyako’s ruling which allowed witnesses to testify against him in private, the feasibly angry Kanu snapped back saying he would would not be jailed by a “mad man.”

According to Kanu, “Tell Buhari that he is a mad man, he cannot jail me.

“They are killing my people, IPOB, and he does not want me to talk, it can’t happen.

“There are laid down court proceedings but the government does not respect, they don’t obey court orders.

“Because Buhari appoint judges, he therefore intimidates them, tell him he cannot intimidate me, if others will have it I will not.

“In which country of the world does a President appoints his sister as a judge, he appointed Nyako from Katsina to jail me, tell him no body in his government is learned enough to jail me.”

Kanu had earlier caused a major stir in the courtroom when he rejected secret trial.

I'll Expose Secret Document That'll SINK Nigeria - Nnamdi Kanu Threatens

 Nnamdi Kanu
The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and Director of Radio Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu has threatened that he would expose secrets that are capable of sinking Nigeria.

Kanu gave the threat at his resumed trial on Tuesday.  Recalled that it was rumoured that he (Nnamdi Kanu) has the original documents that saw to the amalgamation of Nigeria in 1914.

In the Tuesday’s ruling, trial Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted the Federal Government the nod to shield identities of witnesses billed to testify against Nnamdi Kanu.

Justice Nyako who held that names of all the prosecution witnesses who are mostly security operatives, would not be disclosed in any record of the court proceedings also said that the witnesses would be allowed to testify against the defendants behind a screen that would be provided by the court. Justice Nyako however stressed that both the defendants and their counsel would be allowed to see the witnesses who she said would enter and exit the courtroom through a special door.

However, Kanu immediately rejected the court ruling, insisting that it was against the tenets of Justice and fair hearing. “I won’t stand this travesty of Justice.

Buhari spoke in public, he accused me in public. I must also be allowed to stand my trial in public”, Kanu bellowed from the dock.

“This is nonsense! I will give testimony before this court! By the time I finish, there will be no Nigeria. This is no Sharia court. It is a court that operates under the common law.

“There will be no screening of witnesses, no fake identities or fake addresses. I cannot be tried in secret.

No! Nnamdi Kanu cannot be jailed in secret! They are mad. Tell Buhari That I said he's mad. Why must I be tried in secret by a government that does not obey court orders.

“They are killing my people in public, after killing my people they want to try me in private? That person is mad. I won’t allow it. “, Kanu fumed.

The IPOB leader is facing an 11-count charge alongside three other pro-Biafra agitators, Mr. Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi. Charges against the accused persons border on treasonable felony and their alleged involvement in acts of terrorism.

The defendants had earlier alleged plot by the Federal Government to import foreigners to testify against them.

Professor Chukwuma Soludo
Professor Chukwuma Soludo
Professor Chukwuma Soludo, a former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor may have joined the BIAFRA agitators as he justified the secessionist agitation for a breakaway, describing in as intelligentsia.

In making case for the secessionist, Soludo advised the Federal Government to free Nnamdi Kanu as a first step of resolving the agitation for a Biafra State. Soludo, who reviewed a Book, titled “The Politics of Biafra and The Future of Nigeria” written by former House of Representatives member, Hon. Chudi Offodile, said keeping Kanu in prison would not do Nigeria any good as a nation., New Telegraph reports this morning

“Kanu threw a bait and Nigeria accepted it. I think he is a most popular political prisoner today and should be released; he may be a subject of the next political campaign. He may be like the late Obafemi Awolowo, who came out of prison after being charged for treason and embraced by all ” Soludo explained. He said Kanu and his followers were in the main stream of the struggle and that he would be surprised if anybody tells President Mohammadu Buhari to ignore this group of intelligentsia. Soludo said any elite group, who goes to the government in a bid to negotiate on their behalf unjustly will be consumed by this monster they created.

“Let me agree with Professor Wole Soyinka that said the declaration of the state of Biafra is an idea which can be resolved with dialogue.” He said what the various agitators like MASOB, Biafra Movement, new Biafra division were craving for is a fairer Nigeria with equity, fair play and even development, adding that the Igbo land had been underdeveloped in terms of infrastructure in spite of so many political appointments given to its children.

He said that if Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu and Nnamdi Azikiwe, who died as Nigerians were alive today, they would have towed the line of the new Biafra movement. He said Bakassi changed the map of Nigeria, the day it was ceded to Cameroon and wondered why Biafra too cannot change it. Reviewing the book, Solu-do said it is a must read by all because it captures and provides essential insights, analytical comments and excellent peace of research in Nigeria’s attempts to forging a sustainable unity and a Biafran dialogue as it is impossible to hold people hostage in their country.

“The book tells Nigerians the steps it can take to save its fragile independence and way forward,” he said

Also speaking on the struggles, former Governor of Abia State, Chief Orji Kalu, said it was true that the South East had been neglected and marginalized in terms of infrastructural developments.

He said the area required urgent attention by the Federal Government. Those present at the launch were former Vice President, Dr. AlexEkwueme, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Catholic Bishop of SokotoDiocese; formerMinister of Aviation, Hon Osita Chidoka; former Speaker House of Representatives, Ghali Na’ bba, Senator Ken Nnmani, former Deputy Speaker, Hon Emeka Ihedioha and host of others.

‘I'll 'BOMB' Nigeria Completely Out Of Exixitence’ - Nnamdi Kanu Issues Fresh Threat
Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, the incarcerated leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB) has threatened to destroy Nigeria completely not with explosives, but with truth.

A statement from Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB spokesman, revealed that Kanu has decided to bomb Nigeria out of existence by dispensing stack truths about Nigeria to the whole world.

The statement stated that Nigeria is a contraption done by the former British colonialists which is no longer working, hence the quest of the Biafrans to opt out of the incompatible marriage – the 1914 Amalgamation.

The statement reads thus: “The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Prophet Nnamdi Kanu, did not say he will bomb Nigeria but to destroy the existence of Nigeria with truth before the eyes of everybody.

“Shout it from roof top, let the birds of heaven sing it, send out Biafran town-criers with horn speakers and please inform it to Nigerians, that Biafrans must go for good as the one set to cremate Nigeria has finally come to be reality.

“The Director of Radio Biafra and the humble servant of the blessed people of Biafra, Kanu has released a word that is sending shivers down the spines of the Nigerian Lords. The British trained revolutionary and political scientist of international repute, recently said that his hatred for Nigeria can only be described as pathological; borne out of the cruelty mankind has inflicted on his people through the contraption called Nigeria.

“Prophet Kanu, who was born in the thick of the genocidal war waged against his Biafran people, affirmed that the contraption referred to as Nigeria only exists today because the white Europeans said so, insisting that it was not created by God the natural way all nations on earth came into existence.”

Igbos Are Slaves In Nigeria - Igbo Leader Tells Buhari
Leader of the Biafra Independent Movement, BIM, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to grant Biafra independence.

Uwazuruike in a statement by the group’s Director of Information, Chris Mocha, said Igbos’ continuous claim to Nigeria meant adopting slavery, corruption, poverty, marginalisation, inequality and instability.

Stressing that secession of Biafra will be good for Nigeria and all other ethnic nationalities, Uwazurike said,
“If I will not get Biafra, I wouldn’t have come out to start talking about it in the first place and the non-violent method which I understudied for years in India would be defeated.

“We are firm that Biafra can never be wished away.

“Adopting Nigeria as our country would mean adopting slavery, corruption, inequality, poverty, marginalisation and instability.

“Therefore, under the present circumstance, we humbly apply to be admitted, registered or treated as the case may be in any of the organ of the United Nations, having denounced our Nigerian nationality.”

N'Delta Avengers, BIAFRA Form Alliance; Threaten To KILL Buhari & Family, N'Delta Govs. In Inaugural Video, Watch Here

N'Delta Avengers, BIAFRA Form Alliance; Threaten To KILL Buhari & Family, N'Delta Govs. In Inaugural Video, Watch Here

A video that has gone viral suggests that the notorious Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, and the BIAFRA sovereign state agitator may have formed an alliance to engage the Federal Government in a brutal fight to force self-determination.
“This video is for you the corrupt leaders of the zoo called Nigeria. Buhari’s family will die soon, and most especially that one called Zara, that is the name I gave to my dog. Buhari has been holding our director. “I want Buhari to know that nobody has the monopoly of violence, this is the time for him to lose some members of his family. Release our director, Nnamdi Kanu now, if you want any negotiations and you must release him before the end of this month. Today is the 7th of July.”
Those were the words of a self-acclaimed leader of a new militant group, ‘Biafra Avengers’, which emerged in a new video released on Thursday but went viral yesterday. The man, who identified himself as Ogone Ogochukwu, claims to be a leader of a group that is sympathetic towards the cause of both Niger Delta Avengers and pro-Biafra agitators.

In the video that lasted eight minutes, 55 seconds, Ogochukwu, while threatening to kill President Muhammadu Buhari and all members of the nation’s first family, warned that the consequences would be grave if the Federal Government failed to heed his warning.

The troubling video showed a young man in dark glasses, dressed in camouflage and a bullet-proof vest reading from a prepared speech with the Biafran flag hanging behind him. Apart from the threat to the government to release Kanu, the group also threatened to go after all the governors of the states that make up Igboland while declaring the old area known as Biafra as a ‘no fly zone’. The new militants warned that they would bring down any aircraft that go against the group’s demands effective July 7.

He speaks further in the video: “If he fails to release our director, Nnamdi Kanu in the coming days, we warn, we will do what we want to do, and we will carry out our mission. After Buhari, we will go after all the governors in Igboland. “Buhari should tell his military or Boko Haram members to release Biafra-land now, before the end of this month, otherwise what will become of you people, you will never forget it.

“We hereby warn all fake Igbos not to speak for us, we know those that are speaking for us, we will do anything to restore Biafra, more groups are coming, Buhari, you have not seen anything yet. The worst is coming if you fail to release our director. “We have a link with Niger Delta Avengers. Nigeria will burn to ashes.

Today is the 7th of July, I just want to give you serious warning, there should be no flying in Biafra-land. Biafra-land is hereby declared no fly zone’, if you try it, we will bring you down, get the warning now,” Ogochukwu said. Advising security operatives not to bother looking for him, he said that he hailed from Orogun in Delta State and that he had no relations through whom he could be traced.

He asserted that he had nothing to lose if died in the course of the Biafran mission. “I have no mum, I have no dad, I have no one to look unto, and so if I die today, what is the point? We are not losing anything. But we will make sure you lose your family, Buhari you will lose your family.

“Today is the 7th day of July 2016, I promise you that Aso Rock will burn; Rochas Okorocha and all the governors in Igboland, your lives are in danger. “Buhari has just started a fight that he can not finish, we warned him. The unarmed Biafrans you are sending your army to kill are innovative, they are intellectuals, and they are warriors. They hardly start something but when they do, they don’t go back. We are Biafrans, we are the avengers, and we will come for you. Those against Biafra freedom, wait for us.”

“I plead with Igbos that have not joined any group to please look for groups to join, Hausas and Fulanis have no place in Biafra land; wake up, we will fight to the finish. “Destroy anything destroyable in Biafra-land, Nigeria is a zoo created by Lord Lugard. This is Niger Delta Avengers and Biafra avengers number two. We are coming back,” he said

Now I Know It's Not Easy To Govern Nigeria - Buhari Cries Out

President Muhammadu Buhari has cried out, saying that leading the people of Nigeria was a huge task.

In a manner that suggested that the weight of the present challenges facing the Nigerian State was telling on his leadership, the president urged his Ministers and indeed, Nigerians to pray for the country.

He however said that instilling patriotic spirit in the people for the benefit of especially posterity was a task that must be done. He noted the month of Ramadan as a special time when God listened and answered prayers of the faithful.

The President spoke Tuesday night while breaking fast with members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) who were mainly his Ministers at the presidential banquet hall of the Aso Villa, Abuja. He said: “It strengthens our resolve to build our country to make it stronger and to make sure that the incoming generations are sufficiently motivated to be patriotic.

“It is no news that we are the biggest country in Africa, we are the economy engine of Africa, which are true by the way.

“But, we must always be patriotic in our dealings with others. “This (Ramadan) month of prayers and service to God, let us keep on these prayers all the times, believing that God in His infinite mercy will listen to our prayers, give us peace, security and better the economy once more, so that we can quickly rebuild and even do more for the country.

“Let me assure that the time of Ramadan is making us more conscious of what leaders at every level ought to do, and leading the people is not a joke. It means accepting responsibilities for good or wrong,’’ he said.

Recalling the economic challenges and the agitations for the sovereign state of Biafra, President Buhari reminded the people of the Nigerian Civil war that claimed over 2 million lives.

“We need a lot of prayer. Certainly, with the nation’s economy going down. Haven’t developed the agriculture, we are still trying to talk on those who will come and develop the solid mineral for us. “The militants in their various homes. We need to reflect very seriously on what happened between 1967 and 1970 where about two millions Nigerians lost their lives.

“And at that time, as young military officers, you hardly heard of anything about petroleum or whatever money you got from it.

“Look at what Gen. Gowon said; `To keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done’ and every soldier whether he has been to school or not knew what the General meant.

“But, we were quarreling with our brothers, we were not fighting an enemy and then somebody is saying that once again he wants Biafra. “I think this is because he was not born when there was Biafra.

We have to reflect on the historical antecedent to appreciate what is before us now and what we intend to leave for our children and our grand children,’’ he warned.

President Buhari thanked the ministers and other members of the cabinet who have identified with his government despite all odds.

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, who spoke on behalf of members of the FEC, expressed gratitude to the President for inviting them to break the fast with him.

Secret Plot To KIDNAP Biafran 'Lord', Nnamdi Kanu In Court Today EXPOSED

Secret Plot To KIDNAP Biafran 'Lord', Nnamdi Kanu In Court Today EXPOSED

The Department of State Service, DSS, on Monday, told a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, that it has uncovered plot by some pro-Biafra agitators, to invade the court and forcefully free the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu.

The security agency made the allegation on a day the federal government was to open its case against Kanu who is facing a six-count treason charge alongside two other pro-Biafra supporters, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi.

The Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, Mr. Mohammed Diri, told trial Justice John Tsoho that the DSS has already commenced investigation on the planned invasion.

Meantime, following the inability of the federal government to produce any of the eight witnesses scheduled to testify before the court, the defendants, through their lawyer, Chief Chuks Muoma, SAN, applied to be discharged and acquitted of the charge against them. They predicated their application on the provision of section 351(1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

Earlier, the DPP informed the court that the witnesses said they would not appear to testify against the defendants unless the are allowed to wear masks or their identities shielded from both lawyers and people observing the proceeding. ‘My lord this is because they are already receiving threats from associates of the defendants that they will be dealt with.

The witnesses said they love their lives and requested that their identities be shielded from people who are coming to witness the proceeding’, Diri added. He said DSS operatives also billed to testify in the matter, made similar request on the basis that they are investigating terrorism cases and would not want their identities exposed. Justice Tsoho had on February 19, refused an application by the federal government which sought leave to mask the witnesses.

The application was vehemently opposed by counsel to the defendants who urged the court not to allow ‘masquerades’ to testify before it. Meanwhile, the parties are still exchanging arguments on the application for the charge to be quashed and the defendants discharged and acquitted. ‎Kanu who was hitherto the Director of Radio Biafra and Television, ‎has been in detention since October 14, 2015, when he was arrested by security operatives upon his arrival to Nigeria from his base in the United Kingdom.

The defendants were alleged to have committed treasonable felony, an offence punishable under Section 41(C) of the Criminal Code Act, CAP C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria. FG alleged that they were the ones managing the affairs of the IPOB which it described as ‘an unlawful society’.

Specifically, Kanu was alleged to have illegally smuggled radio transmitters into Nigeria, which he used to disseminate “hate broadcasts”, encouraging the “secession of the Republic ofBiafra”, from Nigeria.

The accused persons however pleaded not guilty to the charge on January 20, even as the court ordered their remand at Kuje prison ‎in Abuja.‎‎
