2015 CAN Bribe Scandal: How Pastor Oritsajafor Shared Jonathan N7b Largess; See List Of Who Gets What

Ayo Oritsejafo
New Telegraph - As investigations continue into various allegations of sleaze in the past administration, information has emerged that the former leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) may have presided over the sharing of the sum of N7billion allegedly provided by former President Goodluck Jonathan to solicit support of churches to vote for him in the March 28, 2015 elections.

Pentecostal pastor, Kallamu Musa Ali Dikwa, in an exclusive interview with Sunday Telegraph, said that CAN’s national and state executives, as well as various leaders, received various sums of money under the supervision of former CAN President, Pastor Ayo Oritsajafor and CAN General Secretary, Rev. (Dr.) Musa Asake, to campaign for the then President in the last election. “When we received the N7billion, you know CAN has five blocks. Each block in CAN collected N50million.

While National CAN executives got N30million each, some got N20million while women’s group was given N25million. All the state CAN officials collected N3million each. Zonal CAN chairmen got N5million each and former CAN President, Pastor Oritsejafor, went with the remaining part of the N7billion,” he said.

Besides the N7billion reportedly given for campaigns, Dikwa added: “There were Toyota Sports Utility Vehicles given to them. Let me tell you, there are lot of people that can come out to testify if not because of fear. They came church by church, to campaign for former President Jonathan as their candidate, just because they had collected N7billion for the campaigns.

But they didn’t exhaust the whole money on campaigns and the people that received the money were the former President of CAN and the General Secretary.” Giving reasons why he got N1million from CAN, he said the money was received as part of ‘out of court settlement’ in a suit against them.

“The matter is currently being investigated by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, which had informed me to play along with them.” He said shortly after the money was paid into his Ecobank account, a lien was placed on it and he never touched it as part of the investigators’ directive. “The reason why they bribed me with N1million was because I took them to court last year.

When I raised the issue of N7billion, the General Secretary of CAN, Dr. Asake, wrote a letter signed by him to the DSS to arrest and investigate me,” he said. Efforts to get reactions of Pastor Oritsajafor was unsuccessful as he neither picked his phone nor respond to our text message. The text message to Oritsejafor by 8:09am Saturday, after repeated calls reads: “Good morning His Eminence.

Hope you had a restful night sir. I have been calling you since yesterday, (Friday). One Pastor Dikwa alleged that you and Rev. Asake presided over the distribution of N7bn from Dr. Goodluck Jonathan for pastors to campaign for him in the churches last year. What is your position on this sir?” But Rev. Asake said Dikwa’s story is old and a figment of his imagination. He said neither he nor Oritsejafor presided over any sharing of N7billion because such money was never given to CAN leadership during their tenure. “He has been telling this story since last year.

He has spoken in Abuja and in Kaduna. The story is not straight forward because he (Dikwa) is attempting to dribble all Nigerians. The incident allegedly happened before the elections. Tell me, if it was true, would the government, which is arresting all indicted persons, not have arrested us? “On one occasion, when he brought up this issue, he was asked to produce evidence; he said he had no documents.

He even wrote a letter of apology to us, but now he has started going the old path. I am not afraid of probe. If EFCC invites me over this matter, I am willing to go there,” Asake, CAN General Secretary said. Current CAN President, Rev. Supo Ayokunle, who could not pick his call at about 13:25hrs, because his aide said “Baba is preaching,” later replied to our correspondent’s text message, saying, “Call the people concerned. I don’t have anything to do with it.”

Osun Hijab Brouhaha: Why These Persecutions, Lies Against Me - Aregbesola cries Out

Osun Hijab Brouhaha: Why These Persecutions, Lies Against Me - Aregbesola cries Out

Premium Times - The Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, on Monday said neither his government nor himself has ever ordered the use of Hijab by female Muslim students in public schools in the state.

Mr. Are‎gbesola stated this at the roundtable on Development Collaborative Framework for Education Development and Advancement organised by the Development and Advancement in Western Nigeria (DAWN) in Osogbo.

Mr. Aregbesola challenged those who accused him of ordering the use of Hijab by Muslims‎ to bring concrete prove to substantiate their claims.
The governor challenged those accusing him of plunging the state into religious crisis to present a video or voice recording, written speech evidencing where he commanded or ordered female Muslim students to wear hijab on their uniforms.

“If I permitted Hijab, would the Muslims have gone to court to challenge it? Is that not contradictory? the governor asked.

“Is it a crime that I am a Muslim, is it because I struggle to be a good Muslim that everything I do is being misunderstood? I think I don’t deserve all these lies against me.”

‎He said the programmes he introduced into the state’s education system were part of the resolutions that came out of the education summit organised by his administration shortly after coming into office.

The programmes has no religious undertones, the governor said.

Mr. Aregbesola said the resolution of the summit, headed by Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, never considered nor recommended the wearing of religious garments in schools.

The governor said when he came to office, one of the first tasks of his administration was to convene an education summit which was chaired by Prof Soyinka.

“There is nothing religious in any of our policies,” Mr. Aregbesola said. “The fact on ground contradicts our opposition’s claim.
“The choice of my deputy governor tells it all, I knew she is a pentecotalist of the highest order before I picked her.

“Everything we have done in the line of education is in line with the resolution of our education summit.

“Against all speculations, I have not ordered the use of Hijab, I challenge anybody with evidence to come out and show that I have made a proclamation on Hijab.”

The governor was responding to a controversy sparked by a court judgment approving the use of Hijab by female students in the state.
The Muslim Community of Osun State and the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria had sued the state government asking the court to clear Muslim Students to use hijab.

The court ruled in their favour.

Following the judgment, some Muslim students started wearing head covers to school, a development that irked the state’s chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

CAN then arranged some Christian students of the Baptist High School, Iwo, to wear choir robes and other church garments to school to protest the judgment and spite the state government.

Speaking on education in the South-West at the conference, the governor said the downward trend in education was worrisome due to the role of education in development.

The governor told participants that his administration was constructing 100 elementary, 50 middle and 20 high state-of-the-art schools in addition to rehabilitating existing ones.

He added that the schools in the state before his intervention would have attracted rebuke from animal rights activists if government had put pigs there.

On the Osun school feeding programme, tagged O-MEALS, the governor noted that the programme provided a template for national adoption and implementation of free meals in schools, adding that he was invited by the British Parliament twice to share Osun’s experience with the world.
He said his administration’s efforts and intervention in education was massive and that there had been qualitative and quantitative improvement in the performance of pupils and general education of youths.

He said, “Those who say we are declining are not being honest. The following data will put a lie to the unfounded allegation of our detractors that the performance of pupils has gone down under our watch. In 2007, the state government put forward 36,171 candidates for WAEC examination out of which 2,483 representing 6.86 per cent had credit pass in five subjects, including English and Mathematics.

“In 2008, it was 37,715 candidates with 3,813 pass, representing 10.11 per cent. In 2009 it was 39,676 candidates, with 5,545 pass, representing 13.98 per cent. In 2010 it was 43,216 candidates, with 6,777 pass, representing 15.68 per cent. This four years gave us an average of 15.68 per cent.
“However, our administration started sponsoring candidates for WAEC in 2011. That year, we fielded 53,293 candidates, had 11672 pass, representing 21.98 per cent. In 2012, we fielded 51,463 out of which 11,431 passed, representing 22.21 per cent. In 2013, we also fielded 47,013 candidates, recorded 9,301 pass, representing 19.78 per cent.

“In 2014, we sponsored 47,672 candidates, 9316 of them passed, representing 19.54 per cent. The average performance for our first four years was 20.88 per cent. Compared with the average performance (13.26 per cent) of the three years that preceded us, the percentage improvement in performance during our tenure is a huge 57.46 per cent.”

48hrs To CAN Election, Nigeria Secret Police Hunts For Pastor Oritsejafor

48hrs To CAN Election, Nigeria Secret Police Hunts For Pastor Oritsejafor

Ripples Nigeria - less than 48 hours to the election in the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), to pick new national leaders, indications emerged on Monday night that security agents may be planning to arrest its incumbent President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor and some other key officials.

The planned move according to sources may be executed during the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the association.

Others said to be on the list include General Secretary of CAN, Rev. Musa Asake and CAN Director of National Issues, Elder Sunday Oibe in a move that would play out in favour of certain aggrieved parties in the contest.

CAN officials are however going ahead with the two-day meeting where the election would be conducted.

A report has it that a top presidency official had interest in the CAN election, and was routing for a particular candidate in the election.

Already there was tension in CAN last night as plain-clothed security officers were said to be hunting some of the association’s leaders.

Sources revealed last night that the plain-clothes security operatives were in possession of SMS and WhatApp messages threatening to eliminate some of the CAN leaders.

But some key leaders in CAN were wondering why the security agencies would allow themselves to be used to arrest and intimidate individuals in a purely spiritual exercise as the election of a CAN President.

Also, delegates from the five different blocs of CAN had started arriving Abuja for the scheduled NEC meeting which will determine the next direction of the umbrella body of Christians.

According to the schedule, the two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) have been set aside for majorly two things: the election of the next CAN president and the ratification of the new CAN constitution which had been completed by a committee set up by the National Advisory Council of CAN about two years ago.

Asake had stated last night that plans have reached advanced stage for the election.

According to him, contrary to insinuations, the CAN Secretariat has not been served any court summons that some people have gone to court to obtain an exparte order suspending the election.

“There are rumours all over the place but there are no papers on your table”‘ he stated.

Asake said the next CAN President will be elected by a total of 101 voters: every bloc brings 10 delegates, all the state chairmen plus the Federal Capital (FCT) making 37 votes, all the six zonal leaders, five national directors, the president, Vice President, the General Secretary and the Treasurer all have one vote each.

“We are on target and we are praying that everything will go as planned because this is an issue of Christians and we hope to finish the entire exercise without any rancour”, he said.
