More Fact Exposed: How Patience Jonathan Used DSS Officials To Aid the $23.3 'Theft'
The ongoing investigation into the alleged $22.3 million discovered to have laundered by the former President Goodluck Jonathan's wife, Patience Jonathan has taken a new twist as fresh facts suggest that the former First lady was aided by some men of the Department of State Security, the DDS in depositing the fraudulent money in Skye Bank accounts

According to Punch Newspaper, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has summoned some officials of the Department of State Services, who were attached to Dame Patience Jonathan, the wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, for interrogation.

It was learnt on Friday that the invitation was part of investigations into the $15m frozen in four company accounts, which Patience had laid claim to.

A letter had been written to the DSS, requesting that the officials be allowed to honour the anti-graft agency’s invitation, Punch Newspaper claimed EFCC official confided

An EFCC detective also confided in our source that the commission had evidence that the DSS officials had, on several occasions, deposited money into some of the accounts in Skye Bank between 2013 and 2015.

The Punch Newspaper quoted the EFCC source to have said, “The $15m, which we have frozen in the four company accounts was not paid into the accounts at once. The money was paid into the accounts over a two-year period.

“However, we have evidence that it was DSS officials attached to Jonathan’s wife that deposited the money. We have gathered bank documents and we have invited them for interrogation.”

When asked why Patience had not been invited by the EFCC, even after she had openly laid claim to the money and dared the anti-graft agency to invite her for questioning, another source told our correspondent that it was because the commission was trying to build a solid case.

The source said, “We will not like to exchange words with her on the pages of newspapers. She says the money belongs to her but she has no evidence to show that she owns the money except the fact that she was given platinum cards to use in withdrawing money.

“Possessing an ATM card of an account that does not bear your name, signature or credentials does not give you the legal right over that account. We froze the accounts as part of investigations into a money laundering case.

“We are still investigating and we may invite her based on the outcome of investigations. We are still trying to build a solid case.”

The EFCC had stumbled on four company bank accounts in Skye Bank while investigating a former Special Adviser to Jonathan on Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa.

The names of the four companies are: Pluto Property and Investment Company Limited; Seagate Property Development and Investment Company Limited; Trans Ocean Property and Investment Company Limited; and Globus Integrated Service Limited. The joint balance of the accounts, as of the time it was frozen, was said to be $15, 591,700.

The four companies standing trial before a Federal High Court in Lagos have since pleaded guilty to money laundering.

Jonathan’s wife has, however, accused the EFCC of hiring mercenaries as directors of the company in an attempt to steal her hard-earned money.

Patience, who has sued Skye Bank for N200m, also has another account under the name ‘Patience Ibifaka Jonathan’ in the bank, which had a balance of $5m. The account was, however, not frozen by the commission.

In the suit filed by Patience, while laying claim to the $15m, which is the subject of prosecution of Dudafa and others, one Sammie Somiari, who deposed to an affidavit on behalf of Patience, claimed that Dudafa helped Patience to open the bank accounts in 2010.

According to him, Dudafa had on March 22, 2010, brought two Skye Bank officials to meet Patience at home to open five accounts.

The deponent claimed that Patience was the sole signatory to the accounts.

He, however, claimed that after the five accounts were opened, Patience later discovered that Dudafa opened only one of the accounts in her name while the other four were opened in the names of companies belonging to Dudafa.

SHOCKER: How Police, DSS 'Threatened' INEC To Forcefully Postpone Edo Election
Facts emerged yesterday on why the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reversed its earlier decision not to postpone today’s scheduled governorship election in Edo State. The commission had announced that it was going ahead with the election despite advice by the Department of State Service (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to shift the poll due to alleged security threats.

The police and the DSS at a joint press briefing on Wednesday noted that: “Credible intelligence available to the agencies indicate plans by insurgent and extremist elements to attack vulnerable communities and soft targets with high population during the forthcoming Sallah celebrations between September 12 and 13. The state is amongst the states being earmarked for these planned attacks by the extremist elements.”

The statement was signed by Don Awunah, for the police, and Garba Abdullahi, for the DSS. But INEC said it would not be “teleguided”, adding that the cost of demobilising, after reaching at least 97 per cent readiness level, will be immense.

The commission’s National Commissioner in charge of Voter Education and Publicity (VEP), Solomon Soyebi, assured Nigerians that INEC: “Would not do anything that would mortgage Nigeria’s democracy.”

But less than three hours after the statement, INEC reversed itself and said the election would no longer hold. Soyebi who said the commission had been officially communicated by police and the DSS, added that: “the commission notes the request of the security agencies and, considering the security implications of proceeding with the election, the safety of eligible voters, electoral officials, including ad hoc staff, and other stakeholders, has decided to reschedule the Edo governorship election to Wednesday, September 28, 2016.”

Investigations, however, revealed that INEC was practically coerced to shift the poll. According to a source, the DSS and police were not happy with the decision by the commission to go ahead with the election despite the security advice. The INEC source alleged that there was a plan to sabotage and punish INEC for “its stubbornness.” “There is no security to escort (ad hoc staff and electoral materials) simply because they are unavailable… At the moment, it is no longer feasible to deploy and conduct the election.

“NYSC has advised us that many parents called to withdraw their children from the election duty. Since they form the bulk of the election duty personnel, their withdrawal is a major challenge.” The source added that INEC reasoned that it does not have enough personnel to conduct the election if corps members pulled out.

“And you know if there are no security personnel, the incidents of ballot box snatching will be high. We foresaw a situation where violence would characterise the election, and that is what we don’t want.

“These are the reasons why we postponed the election, otherwise, just like the commissioner said, we were ready to go ahead and conduct the election,” the source stated. Another source added that security agencies saw the decision by INEC to go ahead with the election despite the advice, as a slight.

“Last year, elections were postponed based on security reasons, so why not this time?” the source queried. When reminded that the concern was only for about two or three states in the North East that were under the control of Boko Haram, the source said intelligent report showed that Edo State is one of the states being targeted for attack. “We didn’t want to take chances. There had been reports of political thugs being ‘imported’ from other states,” he said.

BREAKING: DSS Arrests Boko Haram Shekau’s Right Hand Man

Ahmad Salkida, a journalist known for his access to top Boko Haram commanders, says the Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Khalid Albarnawi, a top leader of the Ansaru sect which recently reunited with Boko Haram.

Ansaru, which was established in 2012, was a splinter group of Boko Haram.

Albarnawi, who is regarded in counter-terrorism circles to be “as important as Abubakar Shekau”, was reportedly arrested in Lokoja, Kogi state, and then transferred on Friday.

He is regarded as the most influential member of Nigeria’s terror network with contacts to other Jihadi groups in north Africa and the middle east.

The security source said the DSS arrested Khalid Albarnawi of Ansaru, who is believed to have reconciled with the leader of ISWAP today.

Salkida said Albarnawi is believed to have reconciled with the leader of Islamic State in West Africa (ISWAP), also known as Boko Haram.

In series of messages on Twitter, Salkida described the arrest as one of the greatest feats in the fight against insurgency.

Efforts to confirm the report from appropriate authorities yielded no result, as all DSS and federal government sources contacted declined to speak on the matter.

Daring Fayose Attacks Buhari In Aso Rock

Daring Fayose Attacks Buhari In Aso Rock

Fayose and Buhari
In his usual verbal attack on the President, the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari to eschew any plan of declaring a state of emergency in Ekiti and Rivers states.

Governor Fayose stated this on Monday, March 21, while speaking with State House Correspondents, in Aso Rock, shortly after taking part in the economic retreat organized by the National Economic Council, NEC, at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa.

He maintained that his government is aware that President Buhari was planning a state of emergency in Rivers State over the bloody election rerun that took place over the weekend.

Recall that the All Progressives Congress, APC, had requested that President Buhari declares a state of emergency in Rivers State, in order to forestall political violence and the breakdown of law and order in the state.

“It is obvious that Governor Wike has lost control of the state. As the chief security officer of the state, his primary duty is to secure lives of the people in the state but he has failed to do this. The crisis in Rivers State could have ended if not for the unwillingness of “powerful people” in government in the state, “APC had said.

Speaking further, Fayose said if he went ahead with the plan, Buhari would be thought a lesson that power belongs to the people and not their leaders.

“They have been insinuating that (state of emergency) too in Ekiti. We have been waiting for them. Power has gone beyond the leaders; power has gone back to the people.

“You want to declare state of emergency, declare it and we will tell you that the state of emergency will not work too. This country belongs to all of us.”

He urged Buhari to sustain the legacy of free and fair elections which his administration inherited.

“The military has got no business in our election. If you watch the trend, PDP has always won all the elections after the annulment. Which means what happened in Rivers is just a service of ego of some individuals who believe they have Nigeria in their pockets and they can call the President at will to deploy the military.

“It is unfortunate that somebody would allow the military to kill his own people.

“I strongly condemn the elections in Rivers and charge that we sustain the legacy of transparent elections.

“For me in Ekiti, we learned from that and we are prepared. We prepare for election every day and we are fully prepared,” he added.

Fayose also insisted that the intimidation of members of the Ekiti state House of Assembly by men of the Department of State Services, DSS, had further confirmed what he described as the rascality of the agency of government.

He said it was unfortunate that the Federal Government would decide to look away and allow innocent Nigerians’ rights to be trampled upon.

 Akanni AFOLABI
 Akanni AFOLABI
Contrary to rumors propagated by Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose and his government that an Ekiti State lawmaker was killed while in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), it was revealed today that the lawmaker in question is alive and remains in DSS custody.

Read the full press release by the DSS below:

You may have been aware of the recent situation in Ekiti State in which the DSS was accused of abducting of the State’s Assembly Legislators.

The fact is that one of the members of the Assembly, Hon. Akanni AFOLABI was duly invited by the Service over some serious breaches bordering on State security and for which he has some explanations to make.  These breaches fall under the purview of the DSS to investigate.

This Press Conference has become necessary in order to debunk a rumour which is being dangerously spread in Ekiti State by some mischief makers to the effect that Hon. AFOLABI has died in custody.  Nigerians and Ekiti people in particular are convinced to see that AFOLABI is hale and hearty as he is being presented to the Press today.

 Akanni AFOLABI
The DSS will therefore warn all those who have planned to make a meat out of this to desist from it and stir clear from trouble as the Service will not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law against any one or persons that may engage in violent actions of any kind.

In a similar vein, all law abiding Ekiti residents should go about their normal businesses as the Service assures them of full protection by security agencies.
