Saraki Solidarity Meeting Turns AWRY As Sen. Dino Melaye Threatens To BEAT UP Colleagues For Backing Down

Details of what transpired at the closed door sessions of the Senate last week have began to emerge as some senators in the red chambers reportedly raised alarm over the extent to which their colleagues had gone to serve Senate President Bukola Saraki’s personal interests.

The senate had last week held several closed door sessions, where according to a senator, “It was decided that the Senate should drop some of its unpopular attempts to protect Dr. Saraki.”

Bukola Saraki is currently facing charges of false asset declaration and corruption at the CCT.

SaharaReporters quoting a Senator stated that tempers flared up during the closed door meetings to the point that Senator Dino Melaye, one of Mr. Saraki’s staunchest allies, threatened to beat up Senator James Manager from Delta South senatorial district.

The source said Mr. Melaye became incensed after Senator Manager stated that Mr. Saraki’s maneuvers to use senators to scuttle his trial had caused great public anger against the Senate.

“Senator Manager did not mince words that the trial of the Senate President was now creating huge problems for us,” our source said, adding that several other senators spoke in the same vein during the closed-door session.

The senator according to SaharaReporters decided that despite efforts by Senator Melaye and other pro-Saraki hawks, the majority of senators decided it was time to de-escalate the tension between the Senate and the CCT.

“It was decided that the Senate should drop some of its unpopular attempts to protect Dr. Saraki.”

According to him, one of the resolutions was to back down from the Senate’s decision to summon Justice Danladi Umar, who is handling Mr. Saraki’s trial, to appear before senators to be questioned on allegations of corruption against him. The charges against the judge were dismissed in the House of Representatives when the men who made them failed to show up to back them up.

“We decided it doesn’t make sense to continue harassing Justice Umar when the charges against him were never authenticated. In the same vein, we decided it is counterproductive to pursue amendments of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act. The public reaction against the amendment was very fierce,” said the senator.

“Nigerians now perceive us as a group committed to the protection of one man who happens to be the Senate President. It is time we restore public confidence and support,” one of our sources said. He added: “In the process, we decided to drop [the] Ethics Committee investigation of Senator Kabir Marafa, an outspoken opponent to Dr. Saraki.”

The decision to end the targeting of Mr. Marafa infuriated Senator Sani Yerima, a former Governor of Zamfara State. Mr. Yerima is a controversial political figure who introduced Sharia law in his state in his first tenure as governor.

SaharaReporters further reported that as part of his manipulation of the senators, two sources disclosed that the embattled Senate President recently distributed 36 new Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs to his closest allies in the Senate. One source stated that Senator Manager had received a car prior to his protests about Mr. Saraki’s image and its effect on the Senate as a whole.

In a bid to stem the growing dissension against Mr. Saraki, Senate Deputy President, Ike Ekweremadu, and a few senators organized a 12-member committee with two representatives from each of the six geopolitical zones to reconcile members. Among other things, the Senate resolved that all members involved in litigation against the leadership of the Senate should withdraw such lawsuit. SaharaReporters learnt that a group of senators led by Senator Ahmed Lawan immediately rejected the proposal, which would have had them withdrawing a forgery lawsuit they filed against the Deputy Senate President and the outgoing clerk at the Senate who assisted him in forging Senate rules that enabled Mr. Saraki to get elected as President.

Over the course of these three days, the senators also discussed the controversial issue of budget padding, which led President Muhammadu Buhari, when he found suspicious allocations, to reject the budget and call for talks with the Senate leadership.

Senatorial sources disclosed that Senator Danjuma Goje, the chairman of the Appropriations Committee, did not show up at the meetings, adding that Mr. Goje was behind the diversion of funds from the Lagos—Calabar Railway to other areas of the budget.

One senator alleged that pro-Saraki senators also used the budgetary padding to garner political support for the embattled Senate President. One source explained that almost every member of the Senate was either a chair or vice-chair of a committee as Mr. Saraki had intentionally increased the number of Senate standing committees from 57 to 70. “The budget was padded in a way that each Committee chairman and vice-chair would receive at least N2 billion in ‘special projects’ while the Senate leadership would get at least N4 billion each in such projects,” one source stated. He added that new Senators who are neither chair or vice chair of committees were each allocated N400 million in special projects.

Our source revealed that many senators were reluctant to dump Mr. Saraki for a new Senate President because such a change would entail the dissolution of committee assignments and the loss of perks as committee chairs.

A civil rights source in Abuja told SaharaReporters that Mr. Saraki had also corrupted some players in the non-government organizations (NGOs). “Many NGOs that campaigned for openness at the National Assembly were themselves co-opted into his [Mr. Saraki’s] inner circle,” the source said. “That’s why several of them have been unable to realize their objective of getting the public to see the details of the opaque budget of the National Assembly. And yet Senator Saraki had pledged to collaborate with these NGOs to bring matters of governance to the public domain.”

Our correspondent learned that, during the final closed-door session, the deputy chair of the Appropriations Committee, Senator Sonni Ugbuoji from Ebonyi South senatorial district, shocked his colleagues by declaring that he was not aware of the details of the budget that his chairperson, Senator Goje, sent to President Buhari for assent. Senator Ekweremadu also disclosed he had not seen the budget breakdown till now. His admission infuriated some Senators, but he hurriedly appealed to them to stay united, pointing to those he called the enemies of the Senate from outside. He then declared the session open and closed to enable some members to join Mr. Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

Only Death Can Separate Me From You, Dino Melaye Vows To Devastated Saraki

Senator Dino Melaye from Kogi State has pledged his unflinching support to the embattled President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

Melaye, a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who could not correctly spell THOUSAND but spelt it as THOUSOUND in a facebook post this afternoon was quoted as saying;

"My brother and friend Sen. Bukola Saraki, if you have 1 trillion supporters I'm one,if you have one billion I'm one,if you have one million I'm one,if you have one thousound I'm one if you have ten I'm one,if you have only one supporter I'm one and if you have no single supporter it means I'm dead. No shaking. Four years tooo sure."

Saraki is facing 13 counts corruption charges at the Code of Conduct tribunal over some undeclared assets.

TOP SECRET: Saraki Using Budget Row To Negotiate CCT Trial With FG As His Lawyers Exhaust Tricks

TOP SECRET: Saraki Using Budget Row To Negotiate CCT Trial With FG As His Lawyers Exhaust Tricks
Ripples - Senators loyal to Senate President Bukola Saraki are using the 2016 Budget row to negotiate a soft-landing for the former Kwara State Governor, who is facing trial for false declarations of assets at the Code for Conduct Tribunal (CCB).

Investigations by Ripples revealed that his loyalists under the aegis of Like Mind Senators met last night at his official residence to take serious positions on the controversy.

President Muhammadu Buhari had refused assent to the Budget after Ministers identified the document had been returned “highly mutilated”.

The President, who is on a week-long trip to China, it was learnt, was told by the Economic Team headed by Vice President Yemi Osibanjo not to sign the Budget presented by the National Assembly last Thursday.

The Senators had removed the Lagos-Calabar rail project and tampered with major infrastructural thrusts of the administration.

Sources at the meeting last night informed that the Senators reasoned Saraki must be stopped from facing trial using the instrumentality of the Budget impasses.

“Truth is they realised the Senate President will surely be prosecuted and jailed. His legal team has run short of any more tricks to play.

“So, they have told him that only a political solution will be the way out. While the legal battles will continue, Saraki has been reliably informed he must resort to political weapons to stave off prosecution,”a source at the meeting confided.

Saraki, it was gathered, has identified the Budget impasse as his last chance to negotiate a soft landing, a position many of his loyalists share.

This is why, sources informed, the Senators have resorted to dragging the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, into the row to whip up sentiments and win support.

“You know Amaechi has many natural enemies. His kinsmen are angry he facilitated the victory of Buhari at the expense of Jonathan.

“The Pro-Saraki elements are using this sentiment to the maximum to ensure that it is seen as another ploy by Amaechi to play dirty politics,” the source added.

The meeting convened by Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West) resolved that the row must be a total stand-off until the Executive is pushed to the wall.

Once the patience of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) is exhausted, Saraki supporters have been primed to step in and convince them the impasse will only be resolved if he is not disgraced.

“It is a very strategic ploy. You know for the first time many Nigerians are desperate for the Budget to be passed. Everything is at a standstill economically.

“The longer this (row) takes, the more Buhari will lose face and goodwill. It will keep setting Nigerians against him. This is something he has always feared.

“We are very aware and ready to latch in on this. Saraki must not be prosecuted. He is a victim of political manipulations. This government cannot disgrace him because he is the face of the National Assembly,” one of his loyalists confirmed to Ripples.

He added: “All we want is an assurance the SP will be saved. The President has to guarantee this. Until then, the Budget can as well wait because we will not allow political detractors to have a field day.”

This subtle blackmail is expected to give Buhari a run for his money, a development many strategists in Saraki’s camp are confident will work to full effect.

As the Senators stepped out of Saraki’s official residence last night, they beamed with smiles fully convinced they have plotted a major onslaught against the Presidency.

Should Buhari remain stubborn, the row will remain a long-drawn one with many subjected to many more weeks of desperate waiting.

EXPOSED Saraki Allegedly Woos Colleagues With N35m Car Gift Each To Help Repeal Laws That Indicts Him
In another desperate attempt to evade justice, Senate President Bukola Saraki convened a meeting last night in his home with "likeminded" Senators during which they agreed to go after two of the major laws that have ensnared him

As a result, following resumption from the Senate’s long recess today, the Senators went into a private plenary session, and two bills were promptly listed on the Senate Order Paper, seeking amendments to the Nigerian Constitution.

The bills, which have now already undergone First Reading, are:

The Code of Conduct Act CAP C15 LFN 2004 (Amendment) Bill, 2016 (SB 248), nominally sponsored by Peoples Democratic Party Senator Peter Nwaboshi (Delta North); and

The Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 (Amendment) Bill 2016 (SB 249), sponsored by Senator Isah Misau representing Bauchi Central.

The invitation to last night’s meeting in Saraki’s home was sent by former “anti-corruption” crusader Dino Melaye, using the mobile telephone number of Peter Makanjuola (0803 390 3330).

Makanjuola is Saraki's Deputy Chief of Staff.  The strategy seemed to have been to send the invitation using that phone to avoid detection.

One Senator, who attended the meeting, said that when concern was expressed that President Muhammad Buhari would veto the bill, Saraki told them he had enough support in the Senate and the House of Representatives to override such a veto.

During the meeting at Saraki’s home, he took the opportunity to announce to members of his core support group that he has ordered the purchase of Toyota Landcruiser V8 engine Sport Utility vehicles to be given to each Senator.

The Senate President is hoping that greed will override common sense and that with each Senator getting a car, his support base would be solidified.

Our Senate source noted that 36 cars have already been purchased, each one costing N35 million each.

At CCT Trial: Senators Desert Saraki, Shrinks From 81 To 12
Senate President Bukola Saraki has arrived at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) where his trial for alleged false declaration of assets continues.

He arrived at 10:05am in the company of at least 12 senators.

Some of the senators are Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president; Sam Anyanwu, Dino Melaye, and Andy Uba.

This is the lowest number of senators to accompany him to the CCT since the beginning of his case in September 2015  – the highest being 81.

Also, this is the second day of his trial which started on Tuesday.

Although this is the eighth time the senate president will appear at the CCT, his trial actually started on Tuesday.

The first time was on September 22, 2015, after the tribunal had issued a bench warrant for his arrest. He was accompanied to the tribunal by at least 50 senators on that day.

On the same day, he entered the dock, but he pleaded not guilty to 13 counts of false declaration of assets brought against him by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

The second time was on October 21, 2015, when he was accompanied to the tribunal by at least 81 senators.

And the third time was on November 5, 2015, when his lawyers  –Joseph Daodu and Mahmud Magaji  – withdrew from the case in protest of the decision of the tribunal to continue the matter despite an appeal against the constitution and jurisdiction of the tribunal at the supreme court.

The fourth time was on March 11, after the ruling of the supreme court upholding the jurisdiction of the tribunal to try him while the fifth time was on March 18 when an application to stop his trial was heard.

The sixth time was on March 24 when the tribunal ruled that his trial must continue.

The seventh time was April 5 when the prosecution called its first witness, who narrated how Saraki allegedly laundered billions of naira using fictitious names.

The senate president had gone the whole hog to challenge his trial at the CCT, but he failed at every turn.

On February 5, the apex court dismissed an appeal to stop his trial paving the way for the continuation of the case at the CCT.

On Tuesday, Danladi Umar, chairman of the CCT, dismissed Saraki’s application for adjournment.

Ruling on the application, Umar held that the issue of jurisdiction of the tribunal had already been settled by the supreme court, adding that a motion for adjournment based on an appeal challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal at the appeal court was unnecessary.

He, therefore, ordered the prosecution to produce its witnesses, and the trial commenced.

Made-In Nigeria-Wife: Dino Melaye, A LUNATIC WITHOUT MATRIMONIAL LIFE - Oshiomhole

Apparently in reaction to Senator Dino Melaye Outburst at the Senate Plenary where he mocked Governor Adams Oshiomhole for marrying non-made-in Nigeria wife, the governor through his Press Secretary has described Melaye as 'LUNATIC WITHOUT MATRIMONIAL LIFE'.

Displeased with the comments, Oshimohole replied on Friday, saying Melaye “only displayed his hollowness” by delving into a matter as private as his marriage to his heartthrob.

PRESS RELEASE BY GOV. OSHIOMHOLE

“Our attention has been drawn to the unprovoked verbal assault launched by one Senator Dino Melaye on the Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, while making a contribution on the floor of the Senate on the need to patronize made-in-Nigeria goods,” Oshiomhole said in a statement by Peter Okhiria, his chief press secretary.

“As a ‘nephew’ of the Governor and members of the same party, we expected Senator Melaye to tender an unreserved public apology to the Comrade Governor, to no avail. “It is an open secret that Senator Melaye cannot maintain a decent matrimonial home hence he could descend to this pedestrian level of using the hallowed chambers to ‘cargorise’ women as if they were pieces of items for purchase. Any responsible individual that is truly worth to be called a Senator, a position that convokes respect, decorum and decent public conduct, should know the limits of his verbal diarrhoea.

“The liberty of free speech guaranteed in the hallowed chambers does not impose lunacy on anyone to disparage other Nigerians, let alone pry into their matrimony in a very derisive manner. We had intended to ignore this uncomplimentary comment as one of the several empty displays of the Senator, but the fact that it tends to reduce women to pieces of tissue calls for this response. “As we probed into Dino Melaye’s humanity, we were reminded that he is a man known for his vainglorious rodomontade and the childish display of his ostentatious lifestyle complements his love for foreign items.

Many of such eurocentric mentality he has persistently displayed on social media, to underscore his materialistic eccentricity, hence his dialectical opposition to made-in-Nigeria goods. “But an attempt at making women wear the garb of goods to be picked off the shelves was to take the issue to a ridiculous and irresponsible level. By delving into the private affair and marriage of the Comrade Governor, Senator Melaye has exposed himself as a simpleton and a court jester whose words and tactlessness cannot be taken seriously by matured people. “We advise that Melaye should mend his ways with his ex-wife and concubines before coming to the village square to display his crass ignorance and emptiness to the Nigerian people.

“If he has anything to offer, Dino Melaye should concentrate on making good laws for the people of Nigeria rather than descend to a ridiculous level, thus displaying to the whole world his unworthiness to sit in the hallowed chambers of the Nigerian Senate.”

While making his contribution on Wednesday to the debate on a motion regarding the need for Nigerians to patronise made-in-Nigeria goods, Melaye had said: “I want to celebrate the made-in-Nigeria senator for bringing this motion. In considering the made-in-Nigeria goods, we must look at enabling factors that will necessitate the made in Nigeria goods.

“It’s beyond having one made-in-Nigeria attire and you have over 70 Tom Fords and Louis Vuitton in your wardrobe. We must reduce the allocation for made-in-Nigeria goods and services to the basics. “What are those factors militating against the production of these goods? We must tackle them. We must also begin to look at our legislation then we will begin to talk about made-in-Nigeria goods.

“We will also move in order to encourage the made-in-Nigeria products in Nigeria, begin to talk about made-in-Nigeria women. Apologies to my uncle, the governor of Edo state, we must, as a people, stop paying dowry in dollars and pounds. It is time for my colleagues here to become born again.”

Dollar Scarcity: Don't Import Wives Like Gov. Oshiomhole - Dino Melaye Urges Nigerians

The Controversial Kogi Central Senator, Dino Melaye has taken a swipe at Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole for marrying foreign women. Since dollar scarcity and it effect of high exchange rate to Nigeria's Naira, there has been campaign across the nation synthesizing Nigerians to always patronize the made-in-Nigerian goods. At the Senate plenary today, Senator Abaribe sponsored a motion on harping further on promoting made-in-Nigeria products. While engaging in a debate on Made-In -Nigeria bill at the senate's plenary session this morning, Senator Dino Melaye said most Nigerian men prefer marrying "imported ladies" than "made-in-Nigeria" ladies. He made reference to Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomole who is married to Iara who is from Cape Verde. See Tweets Bellow by Nigeria Senate
