Nigeria Gets $1Bn US Investment After Trump-Buhari's Phone Call

Nigeria Gets $1Bn US Investment After Trump-Buhari's Phone Call

Trump-Buhari's Phone Call
As if some international investors are readily waiting for such diplomatic call, few days after President Muhammadu Buhari received phone call from the United States, US, President, Donald Trump, an initiative of the US country to light up Africa, ‘Power Africa,’ says it’s planning to invest about one billion dollars in the power sector in Nigeria.

The programme’s Coordinator, Andrew Herscowitz stated this while addressing a press conference in Abuja, on Tuesday.

He noted that the programme was aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s power sector.

Herscowitz said US has already committed billions of dollars in funding the nation’s energy projects.

The programme which was launched by the immediate past US President, Barack Obama in 2013 is aimed at adding more than 30,000 megawatts efficient energy development in sub-Saharan Africa.

According to Herscowitz, the project also targets unlocking the substantial wind, solar, hydro power, natural gas, biomass, and geothermal resources on the continent.

He said, “Since Power Africa was launched, U.S. Trade Development Agency has committed approximately 6.5 million dollars in funding for 10 activities supporting Nigeria’s energy sector, which could leverage up to 2.7 billion dollars in investment.

“It has advanced 50 million dollars in financing from the Oversea Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) to Lumos, a Nigeria-based solar energy company, to scale up it’s off grid solar power service to about 200,000 Nigerian homes and businesses.

Buhari, Trump's Audio Telephone Conversation: Presidency Releases Statement
The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mallam Garba Shehu, has said it would be “undiplomatic” to release the audio of his principal’s phone conversation with US President, Donald Trump.

On Monday, Trump reportedly spoke with Buhari, who is currently in the UK on medical vacation and there have been calls from some quarters for proof of the conversation to be released.

Shehu said: “No, I don’t think so; I don’t think it is permitted in international diplomacy. I think if we had recorded Mr Trump in this conversation it would have offended our diplomatic relations.

“I think the Americans themselves would not have recorded this conversation of president to president.”

He added: “Well, there wasn’t enough time to talk about everything. I think the point at what will follow is in the invitation that President Trump has extended to our president (Buhari) to come over.

“That is the kind of opportunity that was presented to Nigeria put all the issues on the desk.

“As for their immigration policy, I think our president has been clear about one thing – the choices made by the Americans as to who to lead them in this case, Mr Trump, is entirely their own choice.

“We have no business interfering with their domestic affairs.”

As to the countries that have barred, it has been clearly specified and Nigeria did not feature in the list,” he said.

Buhari was initially scheduled to return February 5, but he sent a letter to the Senate asking for an indefinite extension of his vacation.

Trump’s national security adviser, Michael Flynn resigns

Trump’s national security adviser, Michael Flynn resigns

Michael Flynn resign
Donald Trump's national security adviser Michael Flynn resigned amid controversy over his contacts with the Russian government Monday, a stunning first departure from the new president's inner circle less than a month after his inauguration.

The White House said Trump had accepted Flynn's resignation amid allegations the retired three-star general discussed US sanctions strategy with Russia's ambassador Sergey Kislyak before taking office.

Flynn -- who once headed US military intelligence -- insisted he was honoured to have served the American people in such a "distinguished" manner.

But he admitted that he "inadvertently briefed" the now Vice President Mike Pence with  "incomplete information" about his calls with Kislyak.
Pence had publicly defended Flynn, saying he did not discuss sanctions, putting his own credibility into question.

"Regarding my phone calls with the Russian Ambassador. I have sincerely apologised to the President and the Vice President, and they have accepted my apology," read Flynn's letter, a copy of which was released by the White House.

The White House said Trump has named retired lieutenant general Joseph Kellogg, who was serving as a director on the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to be interim national security advisor.

Flynn's resignation so early in an American administration is unprecedented, and comes after details of his calls with the Russian diplomat were made public -- upping the pressure on Trump to take action.

Several US media outlets in Monday reported that top Trump advisors were warned about Flynn's contacts with the Russians early this year.

Questions will now be raised about who knew about the calls and why Trump did not move earlier to replace Flynn.

Ahead of Flynn's resignation White House spokesman Sean Spicer insisted Trump was not consulted about Flynn discussing sanctions, nor did he task his top national security aide to do so.

Asked if Trump was aware Flynn would raise sanctions with the Russian envoy, Spicer said: "No, absolutely not. No way."

Blackmail?
A former head of defence intelligence, Flynn's encounters with Russian President Vladimir Putin had already drawn criticism.

US media reported on Monday that the Justice Department had warned the White House that Flynn had misled senior administration officials about the contents of his talks with Kislyak and that it could make him vulnerable to Russian blackmail.

The message was delivered in the last days of Barack Obama's administration by then-acting attorney general Sally Yates -- who Trump sacked after she instructed Justice Department lawyers not to defend his contested travel ban.

CNN said then director of national intelligence James Clapper and John Brennan, the CIA chief at the time, agreed the White House should be alerted about the concerns.

In the hours before his resignation, some Trump aides suggested that Flynn has the full support of the president.

Until now, Flynn had been an instrumental player in Trump's inner circle.

He was an early supporter of Trump's improbable bid for the presidency and has encouraged tougher policies on Iran and a softer policy on Russia.

That was a sharp break with the Obama administration, which introduced a wave of sanctions against Moscow over its annexation of Ukraine's Crimea, support for separatists in eastern Ukraine and what US intelligence says were its attempts to sway the 2016 election in Trump's favour.

Washington and Moscow had also clashed over alleged war crimes in Syria, where Russia is accused of aiding the bombing of hospitals and other civilian targets. Despite this, Flynn had argued for rapprochement.

A few of Trump's fellow Republicans had joined their Democratic foes in urging Flynn to resign over a situation that had become a major embarrassment for the ruling party.

"It is his duty to be fully transparent and forthright in his actions -- anything less is unacceptable," Representative Mike Coffman, a Colorado Republican, said in a statement.

"If in fact he purposely misled the president, he should step down immediately."

Flynn's resignation took place just over three weeks into Trump's presidency and days before his first official talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, discussions in which the president's national security advisor would normally have a key role.
The Justice Department and Congress are both investigating possible links between Trump campaign advisors and Moscow, and US intelligence has concluded that Putin personally directed an operation to interfere in the US election.

On December 29, the Obama administration sanctioned four Russian individuals and five entities and expelled 35 Russian diplomats in retaliation.

PerSecondNews - The Trump transition committee, Great Again, has denied reports in some sections of the media in Nigeria that President-elect Trump declined invitation to President Muhammadu Buhari and has instead invited former president Goodluck Jonathan to the U.S 45th presidential inauguration scheduled for Friday in Washington.

The official speaking to Per Second News in Washington Thursday morning said that the inauguration was mostly a domestic event for America.

“The US State Department has advised that as in the past, foreign delegations will not be invited to Washington for the President-elect Trump’s 2017 inauguration and that heads of state and governments will be represented by chiefs of diplomatic missions in Washington,” the official said.

A twitter account of Deji Adeyanju, a  PDP spokesperson also said that United States of America president-elect Donald Trump has invited ex-president of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan to his inauguration on Friday, January 20, 2017.

A U.S State Department official said that “The ‘Heads of Mission’ are the only foreign officially invited. It will be an historic few days!” He further confirmed that one invitation card has been sent to the Nigerian Mission in Washington, DC.

According to the Great Again official, Trump’s Presidential Inaugural Committee has raised a record $90 million-plus in private donations, far more than President Barack Obama’s two inaugural committees.

But while Trump has raised more money for his inauguration than any president in history, lead inaugural planner Tom Barrack said theTrump team wants to avoid a “circus-like atmosphere” in favor of a more “back to work” mindset.

He said only few foreign leaders were invited, which includes Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Canadian Prime Minister.

Trump’s Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson also revealed Thursday that 28,000 officials are dedicated to security for the event, including 7,800 National Guard troops.

Former leader Jonathan is currently in Bayelsa, according to close aides.

BIAFRA Secessionists, IPOB Holds Trump Solidarity Rally In Nigeria

IPOB Trump Biafra rally
The Nigeria's secessionist, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called on  Biafrans and other family members all over West Africa to join in a peaceful solidarity rally for President-elect of the United States of America (USA), Donald Trump.

The rally is scheduled for  Friday, January 20, at Igweocha, Port-Harcourt, River State, Daily Sun reports

The group said the solidarity rally will be in support of Trump’s swearing-in as the 45th US president and for the release of its leader, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu and others detained illegally in all the Department of States Services (DSS) cells and prisons across Nigeria.

A statement by the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Mr. Emma Powerful said the rally will also be for Biafrans, friends of Biafra and lovers of freedom world wide.

“This peaceful rally for Trump in Igweocha on Friday,  will feature display of pictures of our able leader, Mazi Kanu, those detained illegally with him and pictures of president Donald Trump.

“As usual, IPOB will maintain strict discipline of non-violence and non-engagement with army and police.

“However, we must reiterate that should soldiers fire at peaceful protesters, heaven will fall.

“The non-violent position of our great movement will be revoked with immediate effect.

“Our only interest is to exercise our right to peaceful protest and lawful assembly as recognised in the law.

“(Rivers) Governor Nyesom Wike is hereby reminded of his responsibility to protect the lives of those on peaceful rally.

“He should not allow himself to be used.

“We have not forgiven him for his past actions, so, he must be careful not to allow a breakdown of law and order or  any provocative behaviour by the army.

“Peaceful rallies and marches are recognised in law all over the world, so, we can’t stop exercising this because of intimidation and brutality.
“IPOB appreciates the wise counsel and support of our friends.

“Freedom is not negotiable because right to self-determination is inalienable,” said Powerful.

The Dire Consequences Should Trump Wins

Hillary Clinton painted a grim picture of life under a Donald Trump presidency Wednesday, warning undecided voters as the ever tighter White House race entered its final five-day stretch.

Clinton made an optimistic choice in staging a huge rally in Arizona, a swing state she hopes to poach from the Republicans, but the Democrat’s tone was grim as she invited voters to envisage her defeat.

“Imagine it is January 20, 2016 and imagine that it is Donald Trump standing in front of the Capitol,” she told a 15,000-strong crowd in Tempe, triggering a chorus of boos for her Republican opponent.

“Imagine that he is taking the oath of office and then imagine that he is in the Oval Office making the decisions that affect your lives and your future,” she said.

Clinton painted a picture of Trump as a president who demeans women, exacerbates racial divisions and is so thin-skinned and unpredictable that he could “start a real war instead of a Twitter war.”

The note of caution was echoed by President Barack Obama, who warned voters that America’s very future was at stake. He will duel with Trump on Thursday when they hold rival rallies in Florida.

“The fate of the republic rests on your shoulders,” he declared in North Carolina, one of a handful of swing states where the race will be decided.

“The fate of the world is teetering and you, North Carolina, are going to have to make sure that we push it in the right direction,” Obama declared.

The 70-year-old Republican, by contrast, treated supporters in Florida to a now familiar tirade, predicting Clinton’s downfall and vowing to “drain the swamp” of corruption in Washington.

Appearing before fans at a triumphal rally in Pensacola, Trump stuck closely to his well- rehearsed stump speech focused on his “contract with America, a plan to end government corruption.”

And he boasted that many opinion-makers and voters are now flocking to his standard.

“We’re only left with one person, crooked Hillary Clinton. We’re going to win. We’re going to win.”

Such talk — partly supported by one poll on Tuesday showing him moving slightly ahead of Clinton — has delighted America’s foes, made its allies queasy and spooked financial markets.

Trump has been battered by scandals that would have sunk a less brazen showman: accused of sexual assault, of not paying taxes and of ties to Russia’s Vladimir Putin and the mob.

But renewed FBI scrutiny of Clinton’s use of a private email server when secretary of state has fired up the Republican’s raucous fan base and fed doubts about the Democrat’s trustworthiness.

– Foregone conclusion –

US markets have not responded well. The Dow fell 0.4 percent and the broader S&P 500 was off 0.7 percent at the close. Earlier major markets in Asia and Europe had tumbled more than one percent.

The dollar continued to slip against the euro, losing 0.3 percent to $1.1093, while the Mexican peso — sensitive to Trump’s threat to build a wall on the country’s border — lost one percent.

The dramatic tightening in the opinion polls also frightened bookmakers. Ireland’s Paddy Power had already paid out $1 million to punters who bet on Clinton, assuming her victory a foregone conclusion.

But on Wednesday, the firm said 91 percent of bets now favor Trump, whose odds have narrowed.

This week, US Secretary of State John Kerry admitted the campaign has been “downright embarrassing” as he deals with America’s friends and foes abroad, and the latter are in full voice.

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei — whose regime paints America as a comic-book foe — crowed that the “catastrophic reality” of the candidates “goes beyond what even we were saying.”

In Britain, a giant effigy of Trump wielding the head of his rival Clinton was to be burned during traditional November 5 bonfire night celebrations.

– Long-shot bets –

The long and often unedifying 2016 race is now being fought in a few corners of a few states, most notably Florida, Ohio and North Carolina.

These three states offer the best chance for both candidates to cross the winning threshold of 270 out of 538 electoral college votes.

But the two hopefuls have also placed some final long-shot bets.

Clinton traveled to Arizona, which Democrats haven’t won since 1996 when her husband Bill claimed the presidency by a landslide.

An Emerson poll on Wednesday had Clinton losing the state by only four percentage points, and both of its Republican senators oppose Trump, offering the prospect of a shock Clinton win.

Meanwhile, Trump has raised eyebrows by campaigning in Wisconsin and Michigan, both traditionally Democratic states where polls show Clinton leading by six points or more.

And he spent most of Wednesday in Florida — which is likely to make-or-break his presidential dreams — and was to remain there Thursday seeking to build momentum before the dash for the finish line.

LEAKED Audio Exposes Trump's Dirty Deeds With Married WomenDonald Trump on Friday responded to a newly-published audio of 2005 remarks, in which he was heard lewdly bragging about his ability to “do anything” to women.

In the audio, published by the Washington Post, Trump tells TV host Billy Bush how he unsuccessfully tried to have sex with a married woman and how “you can do anything” to women “when you’re a star.” The conversation caught on a hot mic took place shortly after Trump married his third wife, Melania, according to the newspaper.

“I moved on her and I failed. I’ll admit it,” Trump can be heard saying. “I did try and f–k her. She was married. And I moved on her very heavily. In fact, I took her out furniture shopping. She wanted to get some furniture. I said, ‘I’ll show you where they have some nice furniture.’”

“I moved on her like a b—h, but I couldn’t get there,” he adds. “And she was married. Then all of a sudden I see her, she’s now got the big phony tits and everything. She’s totally changed her look.”

The real estate mogul also told Bush that he’s “automatically attracted to beautiful” women, like a “magnet,” and that sometimes he goes straight for a kiss.

“I just start kissing them,” he says. “I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything.”

“Grab them by the p—y,” Trump adds. “You can do anything.”

Trump quickly responded Friday with a statement. “This was locker room banter, a private conversation that took place many years ago,” he said. “Bill Clinton has said far worse to me on the golf course—not even close.”

Hillary Clinton criticized Trump’s comments, calling them “horrific.” “We cannot allow this man to become president,” she tweeted.

Pastor Cuts Off Donald Trump’s Speech After He Tried to Criticise Hillary Clinton in Church (Watch Video)
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump was on Wednesday interrupted while giving a speech during his visit to a black church in Flint, Michigan, U.S.

Following Trump’s criticism of Hillary Clinton, a pastor, Faith Green Timmons, got to the stage to tell Trump that he was not invited to the church to talk politics.

According to Reuters, Trump criticised Clinton for her support of global trade deals, before pastor Timmons interrupted to tell him (Trump) that her church did not invited him to ‘give a political speech.’

Trump responded by saying ‘Oh, oh, OK, that’s good’ and shuffling papers on his podium at Bethel United Methodist Church.

The Republican presidential nominee, at that moment made a few remarks about fixing Flint’s drinking-water issues before departing.

Trump was visiting the city to view its water crisis first-hand and extend his recent outreach to African-American voters ahead of the November 8 election.

Polls show black voters largely favour Clinton.

Recall that Trump held an event at a black church in nearby Detroit earlier this month and pledged in recent speeches to help the black community, which he has described as being besieged by poverty and crime.

During his remarks on Wednesday, the New York real estate developer was also challenged by some members of the crowd of about 50 people, including a woman who accused him of discriminating against black renters as a landlord in the 1970s.

Earlier in the day, he toured Flint’s water-treatment plant, which has been shut down since lead was found in the water supply.

Residents of Flint asked a federal judge on Wednesday to order bottled water or filters be provided to them to prevent further lead exposure, 2-1/2 years after the city’s water supply was found to be contaminated.
