Bloody Clash In Ondo As Akeredolu, Abraham Supporters Fight Dirty; Scores Injured
‎Business activities in Akure, the Ondo State capital, was paralyzed for three hours as supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship aspirant, Mr. Segun Abraham and those of the party’s flag bearer, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, clashed.

Abraham was said to have mobilised his supporters from Ikare-Akoko to protest against the candidature of Akeredolu, which caused gridlock for several hours at the popular Oba-Adesida/Oyemekun road.

Scores of supporters and passersby sustained injuries.

Sources within the party said a national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu has allegedly directed Abraham and his supporters to continue to protest against Akeredolu since he was said to have asked Chief Olusola Oke to decamp to Alliance for Democracy, AD.

It will be recalled that Tinubu had been in a loggerhead with the national leadership of APC since his godson, Abraham lost the party’s ticket for the Ondo governorship election.

Abraham’s supporters, armed with placards bearing inscriptions such as “With Abraham we stand” “Restore Abraham’s mandate” “Abraham is APC’s candidate” and “ Abraham is the authentic winner of September 3 primary”, moved from Fiwaye Rounabout to the party secretariat.

On getting to the secretariat, the leader of the protesters, Mr Enas Mohammed addressed reporters where he gave reasons for the rejection of Akeredolu as the candidate of the party.

He said the appeal committee set up by the National Working Committee of the party had ordered for rerun of the primary.

He added that Abraham should be restored as authentic candidate of the party.

Pandemonium was said to have broken out when supporters of Abraham allegedly destroyed posters of Akeredolu.

This was said to have infuriated loyalists of Akeredolu, thereby disrupting the protest.

It was gathered that some policemen, men of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and journalists ran for their lives.

The security personnel had to stay about 200 meters away from the party secretariat in order to escape the dangerous weapons used by the rival groups.

But the party’s Publicity Secretary, Omooba Abayomi Adesanya described the protesters protesting against Akeredolu’s candidature as hired hungry youths from Kogi, Ekiti and Edo states who could do anything for just N2000.

Adesanya, in a statement, said, “we reliably gathered that these people, who are majorly youths and students were hired from neighboring states and tertiary institutions after been given N2000 each and were mobilized to Akure, the state capital, to create an unnecessary scene and disrupting the peace we enjoy in the State.

“The protesters are not our Party members. We do not have hooligans in our Party. All our member have accepted the decision of the Party on Akeredolu’s candidature and are in various units and wards across the state mobilizing for the Party and its candidate. The Party is supreme and its decision is binding on all members irrespective of status. The public should disregard them and security agencies should do the needful,” the statement read.

Ondo APC Candidates Blast Oyegun, Reject Akeredolu

Ondo APC Candidates Blast Oyegun, Reject Akeredolu

Rotimi Akeredolu,
Candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the September 3 Ondo governorship primary, have condemned the party’s leadership for upholding the election of Rotimi Akeredolu as its flag bearer in the next governorship election.

At a press conference in Akure on Friday, Olusola Oke, Robert Boroffice and Olusegun Abraham, who had earlier challenged the result of the election, said the party leadership had chosen to cover “corruption and irregularities”.

Speaking on behalf of the aspirants, Mr. Boroffice said the national chairman of the party, John Odigie-Oyegun, overruled a decision supported by the NWC and majority of other party leaders.

“He (Oyegun) rejected the path of truth and upheld the primary election that its process was characterized with corruption,” said Mr. Boroffice, the senator representing Ondo North.

He said they were not deterred by the action of the NWC and the “undemocratic behaviour” of the national chairman of the party, but were encouraged by the genuine desire of their supporters and Ondo people to have a change and end the reign of mis-governance in the state.

According to him, the fraud during the primary election was at variance with the anticorruption tenets of the present APC-led federal government.
“We are determined to liberate our people and no undemocratic decision of a party and its leadership will be allowed to misdirect our attention from the goal,” he said.

He said they were still members of the party and would consult with their supporters to decide the next line of action.

Mr. Oke, while answering questions on his alleged defection to another party, said he was yet to leave the party as he was doing “a wide consultation among the people”.

He said reports claiming that he had joined APGA, Accord or Action Alliance, reflected the wishes of his supporters who would like to see him switch party.

“As at today, we remain members of APC,” Mr. Oke said. “In the days to come we will reach out to our people whose desire is our command to decide the next line of action.”

He also said if he would be defecting to another party, he would make it known to the public.

Akeredolu's Victory In Ondo: Tinubu, Aregbesola Take Decisive Action

Akeredolu's Victory In Ondo: Tinubu, Aregbesola Take Decisive Action

Ondo Election: Tinubu, Aregbesola Meet Behind Colsed-door Over Akeredolu
The national leader of the ruling All progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his die-hard loyalist, the Governor of State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola may have recently met behind-closed-door to fashion out a way forward following following the shocking defeat of his anointed candidate, Dr. Olusegun Abraham in the just-concluded primary elections in Ondo state, report according to Information Nigeria suggests.

This comes after supporters loyal to Tinubu accused Aregbesola of being responsible for the loss experienced by their Leader’s candidate at the Ondo APC primaries.

Recall that Rotimi Akeredolu, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, won the Ondo APC primary elections by defeating Tinubu’s candidate, Olusegun Abraham by a slim margin.

Since the incident, the Ondo APC has been witnessing serious crisis as a result of the primary election as one of the contestants in the Primary election, Chief Olusola Oke has faulted the result of the election.

But, in a surprise twist, Tinubu has called for peace as he asked aggrieved party members to sheathe their swords and support Akeredolu.

The former Lagos governor, who was embroiled in an imposition saga as the Ondo primary election gathered momentum embraced the party’s emerging flagbearer, Rotimi Akeredolu despite the uninspiring utterances by the winner directed at him during the build-up to the intra-party election.

“In Ondo we must close ranks to achieve victory. The future of the state and of the party in the state should never be held ransom to insignificant personal animosities and perceived slights,” he said in a statement.

This report is unconfirmed as where and when the duo of Tinubu and Aregbesola met, our source could not disclose.

UNBELIEVABLE: Tinubu, Wife Split Over Ondo Gov. Race; Bisi Akande, Aregbesola Too Oppose Jagaban's Choice?
NEW TELEGRAPH - The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has split into five major political camps ahead of the August 27 governorship primaries in Ondo State. The election for Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s successor holds on November 26.

The arrowhead of one of the groups and probably the most formidable is the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has pitched his tent with Dr. Olusegun Abraham from Akoko North East Local Government.

The support given to Abraham by Tinubu has, however, led to sharp disagreement with the group headed by former Interim National Chairman of the APC and erstwhile governor of Osun State, Chief Adebisi Akande, who has thrown his weight behind the candidature of Prof. Ajayi Boroffice, the Senator representing Ondo North Senatorial district. Interestingly in the camp of Akande is Tinubu’s wife, Senator Remi, who is an unrepentant supporter of Boroffice.

Mrs. Tinubu addresses Boroffice as ‘My Governor’. Impeccable sources told New Telegraph that Tinubu, Akande and National Vice Chairman of the APC (South-West), Chief Pius Akinyelure, had in one of their meetings in London, agreed on Boroffice’s choice for Ondo governorship ticket until the trio disagreed and now sponsoring three different candidates for the election.

In a bid to pacify Tinubu to back down on his support for Abraham, a meeting was held in Bourdillon Road, the residence of the APC leader, at the weekend in Lagos. Tinubu, his wife and Boroffice were in attendance.

A source said that Tinubu reeled out a catalogue of allegations against Boroffice and why he is withdrawing his support. One of the issues raised is that Boroffice would turn out a “difficult governor” to relate with.

It was learnt that Borofmay fice denied all the allegations. Another formidable group is that of Abuja headed by Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasiru el-Rufai.

El-Rufai’s group is supporting former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and governorship candidate of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2012 election in the state, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN).

In the camp of el-Rufai are prominent ministers from the South-West and a minister from the South- South. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar is said to be sympathetic to this group.

New Telegraph learnt that the Abuja group is not in support of Boroffice because of the role he played during the party’s presidential primaries leading to the emergency of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari as the presidential candidate of the APC. Boroffice had supported former Kano State governor and now senator, Rabiu Kwankwaso, with the intention of being his running mate.

The fourth camp is that of Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State. Aregbesola is pushing for Chief Olusola Oke from Ilaje Local Government in Ondo South Senatorial District of the state. Aregbesola’s strategy is to pair his Special Adviser on Environment, Hon. Bola Ilori, with Oke, the former National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Oke’s albatross is that he is a new entrant to APC from the PDP.

New Telegraph learnt that Akinyelure is also supporting Mr. Boye Oyewumi, a new entrant into the political firmament of the state. Akinyelure has an alternative; Mr. Awodehin Akinsehinwa, popularly called Apata, from Owo Local Government Area of the state.

Although there are five major formidable groups contending for the sole ticket of the party, there also other splinter groups including that of Chief Segun Oni, erstwhile governor of Ekiti State and the Deputy National Chairman of APC who is supporting his godson, Prince Ademola Adegoroye from Akure in Ondo Central Senatorial District.

Another splinter group is the state chairman of APC, Hon. Isaacs Kekemeke who is supporting Dr. Bode Ayorinde, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ose/ Owo federal constituency. Despite the existence of the camps, the APC national secretariat cannot rein in the groups because of the weak national leadership of the party.

The camps within the party, New Telegraph learnt, are threatening the chances of the party at the polls as the groups that lost out in the party primaries may work against the interest of the candidate at the polls.

This development made the chairmen of APC in the 18 local government areas of the state to warn against the imposition of any candidate ahead of the primaries fixed for August 27.

The chairmen said the party would lose the November 26 governorship election in the state should they impose any candidate on the party as the people would prefer the ruling party in the state, the PDP, ahead of any imposed APC candidate.

Ondo Governorship: Tinubu's Candidate REJECTED
An aspirant believed to be anointed by the National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State, Mr. Segun Abraham is reportedly rejected by some aggrieved All Progressives Congress leaders and governorship aspirants in Ondo State, Punch Newspaper reports this morning

The aggrieved  APC leaders and aspirants asked Tinubu to allow the APC governorship primary scheduled for August 27 to hold as planned and let the popular candidate emerge through a democratic process.

The aspirants said the plan by Tinubu to sponsor and endorse Abraham for the purpose of imposing him on them would derail the seamless and democratic process aimed at selecting the party’s candidate by delegates.

No fewer than 23 aspirants, including Abraham, have collected governorship nomination forms for the primary.

A recent report had claimed that Tinubu planned to impose Abraham on other aspirants and that he summoned all the APC leaders in Ondo State to a meeting in Lagos and asked them to support his candidate.

Tinubu was reported to have also promised to spend huge sum of money to offer financial support to ensure Abraham’s victory in the November governorship election.

But the APC Publicity Secretary in Ondo State, Mr. Steve Otaloro, denied that they were invited to Lagos by Tinubu to endorse Abraham.

All attempts according to Punch Newspaper to reach Abraham were unsuccessful as he neither answered calls to his telephone line nor responded to the text message sent to him.

Also efforts to reach Tinubu’s media aide, Mr. Sunday Dare on Thursday were unsuccessful as his mobile telephone line was not reachable. On Friday evening when his telephone rang, he neither answered calls to the line nor responded to a text message sent to it.

One of Tinubu’s close associates, denied that the party leader was attempting to impose a candidate on the party.

“I’m telling you that it’s not true; everybody is using Asiwaju’s name, which is natural,” he said.

But the aspirants dismissed the denial, saying they were aware some party leaders met with Tinubu in Lagos over the matter.

The aspirants said Abraham should be allowed to contest in the primary alongside others if he is popular.

In separate interviews with our correspondents on Thursday, some of the aspirants said their presence at the APC national headquarters in Abuja for screening meant a rejection of endorsement of a particular candidate over the others, Punch Newspaper says

They added that delegates should be allowed to elect the candidate of their choice.

An aspirant, who sounded angry and begged one of our correspondents not to mention his name, said he was aware of the meeting in Lagos.

He, however, said he was not interested in listening to any news of the endorsement.

He said, “I am in Abuja right now for screening and beyond that, I assume the report on the endorsement should be taken as rumour; that is what it should be.

“I am still in the governorship race and I am looking forward to a free and fair primary. You can talk to other aspirants; they will tell you the same thing.

“I am doing my campaign and I am reaching out to the people. I don’t want to be part of the discussion on the subject matter.”

Ondo Governorship: 24 Aspirants Kick As Tinubu 'Anoints' Abraham
Ahead of the August 27 primaries of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ondo state, 24 of the 25 aspirants yesterday kicked against a surreptitious plan by the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to impose Dr. Segun Abraham on the party.

Speaking on behalf of the aspirants, Dr Tunji Abayomi blamed the planned imposition on Tinubu, who they said was head bent to install Abraham. The 25 aspirants who had paid N7.5 million as nomination fees have begun screening race for the party’s primary fixed for August 27 at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja.

Although the party had denied the alleged imposition, Abayomi insisted that the planned imposition had been uncovered, saying such imposition by Tinubu was wrong as it would disrupt the normal democratic process of electing candidate for the party for the November 26 governorship election.

Abayomi, who painted graphic picture on how Tinubu allegedly summoned party leaders in the state to Lagos and directed them to work for Abraham and his emergence, said they would resist the National Leader’s plan as it was not acceptable to the majority of the aspirants.

Besides, he said they were ready to ensure that Tinubu’s planned imposition fail notwithstanding his alleged promise to spend huge sum of money for the leaders to ensure Abraham triumph at the party’s primary especially because the action was against the party’s constitution of the party.

Abayomi said: “I am speaking on behalf of the majority of the aspirants, we want to know whether this is true, and considering that we have a constitution that determines the procedure of electing a candidate.

“We are from Ondo State and we expect that our affairs should be largely controlled either by law or the people of Ondo State. So, we reject the government of leaders by the leaders to the privileged set of leaders. If Tinubu had now directed that this is the person he wants to use, that means that he is the one constituting government over the people to his own benefit.”
