EXCLUSIVE: Saraki Infiltrates PDP Again, Plots Akpabio's Sack Over Ties ...You'll Be Shocked How Tinubu's 65th Birthday Thickens The Enmity

TINUBU AKPABIO AND SARAKI
Having helped him to become the Senate President against the wish of his Part in an election described by many as a civilian coup, the skimmer Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki may have once again infiltrated the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP once again. But this time with the aim to decimate it to enable him to clip the growing wings of the former Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio as the minority leader at the Senate

According to Ripples Nigeria, the cracks in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the Senate, may soon break open and widen, as strong indications have emerged that the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has launched a fresh offensive to decimate it.

Already, some members of the caucus, believed to be key loyalists of Saraki, are already calling for the resignation of the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Ripples Nigeria says

Their grouse is simple. They believe that Akpabio is using his position as Senate Minority Leader to shield himself from prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The aggrieved lawmakers, who are about three in number, one of whom is currently in a running battle with the EFCC, is reaching out to PDP Senators to pass a vote of no confidence on Akpabio.

Trouble started for Akpabio last week, when he attended the 65th birthday celebration of a former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, despite the rift between the All Progressives Congress (APC) leader and Saraki.

Akpabio, apart from attending the birthday bash, also placed over four advertorials in key national newspapers, where he congratulated Tinubu and described him as a leader.

Saraki and his loyalists, boycotted the birthday celebration, neither did he place advertorials in any newspaper to congratulate Tinubu.

Within the same period, a prominent member of the PDP caucus, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, had a media war with the EFCC. While the brief media spat lasted, Akpabio did not intervene.

Nwaoboshi, it was learnt, reached out to Akpabio to issue a release on behalf of the Senate caucus, condemning his ‘harassment’ by the EFCC. It was gathered that Akpabio refused to act.

On Monday, Nwaoboshi, reportedly met with the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu to prevail on Akpabio to convene a meeting of PDP lawmakers.

Nwaoboshi was accompanied to the brief meeting with Ekweremadu by two of Saraki’s loyalists, Senators Samuel Anyanwu and Matthew Urhoghide, both PDP members.

After failing to secure the needed number of votes to compel Akpabio to step aside, the trio, Nwaoboshi, Anyanwu and Urhoghide, boycotted Tuesday’s meeting of the PDP caucus, held at the private residence of Akpabio.

At the meeting, lawmakers were sharply divided on whether or not Akpabio should be booted out. One by one, lawmakers accused him of not speaking up in their defence.

He was also accused of romancing with key APC leaders, especially Tinubu. Akpabio, supported by Ekweremadu, was able to douse the tension. Immediate-past Senate President, David Mark, who was present at the meeting, also intervened.

The crack in the party, prompted the appointment of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe as spokesman of the caucus. It was done to enable the caucus speak with one voice, instead of the current practice where Akpabio calls the shot.

Ripples Nigeria, also learnt that a story, published by THISDAY Newspaper, alleging that PDP Senators discussed how Tinubu is using the EFCC to fight them, was planted by the Senate President, as part of his ongoing move to reduce the growing influence of the caucus.

In the coming days, media reports, it was learnt will be sponsored against Akpabio. In the media reports, Akpabio will be linked with Tinubu with claims that he is working to undermine Saraki.

Some journalists who have already been contacted to do the dirty job, have turned down the offer. In their place, bloggers are being contacted to fill in the gap.

'Gov. Wike Has Done Nothing To Surpass Buhari In Term of Projects' - Akpabio Denies Earlier Reports, Says No Basis For Comparison

In apparent denial of a statement credited to him that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has executed more projects that President Muhammadu Buhari, a former Akwa Ibom State governor and Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio has said there is no basis to compare President Governor Wike in terms of performance.

In a statement, yesterday, signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Aniete Ekong, Akpabio, who was reacting to a recent report entitled: “Governor Wike has surpassed Buhari in project execution,” credited to him described the report as “misleading and political mischief taken too far.”

“The attention of the Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio has been drawn to a mischievous headline which made the rounds in the media entitled: ‘Governor Wike has surpassed Buhari in project execution’.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the former governor of Akwa Ibom State and Senate minority leader was in Rivers State to attend the 60th birthday celebration of his colleague, Senator George Sekibo. The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, on Monday, April 4, 2017, went on routine inspection of his ongoing projects accompanied by Akpabio,” the statement read.

Ekong said during the visit, his boss visited the Brick House, some road projects, the ongoing Rivers State Ecumenical Centre, the Port Harcourt Pleasure Park under construction and massive landscaping architecture works at various locations.

“Senator Akpabio, impressed with the quality and litany of projects inspected, commended the efforts of Governor Wike; he said considering that Rivers State government receives less than one percent of the nation’s monthly revenue, Wike had done well in infrastructure development.

This could be explained by the fact that over 75 percent of the Federal Government’s share of monthly allocation goes into recurrent expenses and pensions which cannot be blamed on President Buhari.

“That the Rivers State Government dedicates more money to capital projects explains the visible infrastructure renaissance that the state is witnessing under Governor Wike. Akpabio recommended this as a model to other states of the federation,” he said.

Ekong said Akpabio has been an advocate of the need to unbundle the federal government and has severally expressed his displeasure that a large chunk of the federal resources are dedicated to recurrent expenditure to the detriment of capital projects.

“At no time, during the media interview, did Senator Akpabio compare the performance of Governor Wike to that of President Buhari. Rivers State is a component of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and it will be fallacious to compare the performance of a state to that of the federal government. In fact, doing so will be like comparing apples and beans as there is no basis for that,” the statement said.
Ekong said Akpabio, throughout the interview, did not mention president Buhari “whom he holds in high esteem.”

SEIZED, Ex-Gov. Akpabio's Wife N108b School Built With Looted Fund By EFCC

Akpabio and wife
Punch Newsaper - A school allegedly belonging to Unoma Akpabio, the wife of the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, has been seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

It was learnt that the seizure was part of investigations into the former governor who has been accused of alleged N108bn fraud during his tenure from 2007 to 2015.

One of our correspondents who visited the school, St. John Paul II School, in Shelter Afrique, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, observed that the school had been marked “under investigation by EFCC.”

It was learnt that the EFCC resorted to marking the school instead of shutting it so that innocent parents and students who had paid school fees would not be adversely affected.

The school, it was learnt, had been under the watchful eyes of the EFCC considering the enormous amount said to have been sunk into its construction.

Although normal academic activities were still ongoing in the school as of Wednesday, one of our correspondents who called at the school observed that a police van was stationed outside the gate.

A senior employee of the school, who refused to disclose his identity, only asked one of our correspondents to observe the ambience around the school.

He added that he was not capable to comment on any development relating to the EFCC and the school’s proprietor.

According to him, the school is serene with normal academic activities taking place.

The spokesman for the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, could not be reached on the telephone on Wednesday.

However, a senior operative at the commission confirmed that the school had been seized.

“I understand our operatives were recently in Akwa Ibom and did mark a school as ‘under investigation,’” he said.

Efforts to get Akpabio’s reaction failed as his media aide, Mr. Anietie Ekong, failed to pick calls made to his mobile phone on Wednesday night.

Ekong had told one of our correspondents on Tuesday that he was not aware of the seizure and would contact his boss on the matter.

When called again on Wednesday, he neither picked his calls nor reply a text message sent to him, asking for Akpabio’s response.

The PUNCH had exclusively reported in August 2016 that the EFCC is intensifying investigation into the former governor and was planning to seize his properties and freeze accounts linked to him.

The EFCC had written five banks demanding information on Akwa Ibom State finances under Akpabio’s administration.

The commission also invited key members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and serving commissioners many of whom served during the ex-governor’s administration.

A source at the EFCC said, “We have written to Zenith Bank, Keystone Bank, FCMB, Skye Bank, and UBA demanding information on the state’s accounts. We are also inviting the accountant-general, the auditor-general, the Speaker and the clerk of the House of Assembly.

“We have traced some houses to the former governor in Lagos and Abuja and it is just a matter of time before we seize them.”

The EFCC had started looking into Akpabio last year when he was first quizzed by detectives following a series of petitions written against him.

Akpabio, who is now the Senate Minority Leader, was accused of embezzling public funds while he was governor of the oil-rich state.

He was accused of lavish spending such that on March 2013, he openly gave N1m each to the six chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party from the South-South geopolitical zone who had converged on Port Harcourt for a party reconciliation session and told them to use the money to ‘buy Mr. Biggs’

As the commission was investigating the ex-governor, the Akwa Ibom State Government, headed to a state High Court to get an interim order barring the EFCC from investigating his administration.

The Justice Ntong Ntong-led court on July 15, 2016, granted an interim injunction, restraining the EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission; and the Inspector-General of Police from investigating the finances of the Akwa Ibom State Government.

The suit was filed on behalf of the state government by the state Attorney General, Uwemedimo Nwoko, who also served under Akpabio and is believed to be loyal to the former governor.

2019: 20 APC Senators Set To Join PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said it is alive and ready to take over from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019.

That was just as the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, said about 20 serving senators of the ruling APC were ready to join the PDP once the leadership crisis in the PDP is resolved. Also, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, said those who left PDP to APC in the South East have no electoral value, and are joining APC for contracts and employment opportunities.

“My response is that, my brothers and sisters from the South East, who are defecting know the electoral value of each and everyone of us. “We should allow them get the contract they are looking for, to get employment they are looking for.

At the appropriate time we will know who is who in the South East. There is nothing to worry about. We are completely in control,” Ekweremadu stated. At its 73rd National Executive Committee (NEC) and Expanded Caucus Meeting in Abuja yesterday, the party leaders said the party was repositioning to be much more vibrant to play the role as main opposition in the country.

Two governors and six deputy governors, as well as members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Assembly caucus attended the meeting, which was presided over by Chairman of the National Working Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi. Akpabio, who said that PDP senators in the National Assembly are intact and supportive of the National Caretaker Committee of the party, noted that all the APC senators want is a return of peace to the PDP.

“As I speak, so many senators from the opposing party are eager to join PDP. All they want is return of peace to the party. Once that is done, I can assure you that 20 senators are on their way to joining the PDP,” he added.

“There is no election that will be conducted in the former PDP 28 states that the party will not win. That is a matter of fact. Akpabio regretted the leadership crisis in the party, noting that it caused the PDP Edo and Ondo states. He decried the recent court injunctions in Ekiti State, adding, “I need to emphasise that if we don’t put our house in order, we may not win election.

“Anambra election is coming up in November this year. If we as a party don’t go down to grassroots and we continue to make flowery speech, we may not rebuild the party.” He advised those who are thinking of defection to retrace their steps because PDP would bounce back to victory in 2009. Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, said the entire country is tired of APC and are yearning for another change. “The whole country is not only tired of the ruling party, they want another change.

If not for the constitution, they want the change tomorrow.” According to Fayose, party leaders should work together while those aspiring for offices should do so with decorum. “I will continue to leak their secrets. I will remain a torn in their flesh.

Anything they want to do, let them come. If they want to carry their police, let them carry their police. I don’t care,” he said.

BREAKING: Drama At The Senate As PDP Senators Stage Walkout Over Defection Brouhaha
There was a mild drama this morning at the Nigerian Senate chamber over the defection of Senator Yele Omogunwa representing Ondo South as Senator elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP staged a walkout from the chamber.

The drama ensued when the Senate President, Bukola Saraki began to read Omogunwa’s letter.

According to Leadership Newspaper, some APC Senators were seen jubilating over the Ondo Senator’s defection while their PDP counterparts were also shouting “go, go, go” to Omogunwa, resulting into momentary rowdy session.

The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, also raised a Point of Order to protest Omogunwa’s defection to APC without a cogent reason, urging the Senate President to declare his seat vacant.

But Akpabio was ruled out of order by Saraki, who also cited another relevant section of the Senate Standing Orders.

Senator Dino Melaye raised another constitutional point of order, insisting that the PDP was not only fictionalized but that there was a wide “gulf” in the opposition party.

Announcing the defection at plenary, Senate President Bukola Saraki, who read the notification letter, said Omogunwa’s decision was in reflection of the recent developments in Ondo State.

Consequently, PDP Senators staged a walkout to address the Senate Press Corps.

With the lawmaker’s change of party, all the three Senators from Ondo are now members of the APC.

BUHARIPHOBIA: Senators Abscond Legislative Duties, Hide In Toilet During Debates On Judges Arrest
Frontier News - In what appears as aligning with the old saying, ‘the timidity of the omnipotence is the commencement of sagacity’, Most Nigerian senators on Tuesday absconded their legislative duties as the motion on the recent invasion of judges residence by the Department of the State Services (DSS) was considered.

Some even likened their action to the popular believe and saying that “fear of God is the beginning of wisdom” that “fear of Buhari and DSS is the beginning of wisdom” .

This fear of President Muhammadu Buhari which some lawmakers see as the beginning of wisdom, was conspicuous in the attitude of some lawmakers during plenary on Tuesday.

Contrary to what was the norm when lawmakers leave their sits and walk out of the chamber to ease themselves or answer their calls, but this new twist was added to the lexicon of the our lawmakers during the plenary on Tuesday.

What happened? Some lawmakers were seen moving to the direction where the rest room is located, which definitely points to the fact that they do not want to participate in the ongoing debate over the clampdown on some Judges.

After a while, they were briskly walking themselves back into the Chamber, after spending some minutes in the toilet (rest room), one after the other, shortly before the debate ended.

The statement of Minority Leader in the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who also noticed this suspicious movement, corroborated this development when he jokingly said “I understand why many Senators went into the toilet during debate. It is because they don’t want their houses to be invaded by DSS”.

The troubles beclouding the peace of mind of the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki may not be ending so soon as he has been enlisted among other 31 former governors who the Federal Government is set to slam another corruption charges on over their conduct when in office as governors.

Recall Saraki already facing two different charges; one with the code of conduct tribunal and the other bothering on forgery allegation slammed by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

Fresh report according to Punch Newspaper suggests that the Federal Government, again through its newly set up National Prosecution Coordination Committee, may start filing fraud charges against some former governors before the end of October.

It was learnt that the NAPCC and some of the special teams of prosecutors, pooled together by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, had commenced the review of the corruption cases involving some of the former governors and politically-exposed persons.

A top member of the NPCC told our source on Sunday that the preliminary issues would be completed soon and the Federal Government’s special teams of prosecutors would start filing charges against some of the ex-governors.

It was gathered according to Punch Newspaper that various anti-graft agencies and other law enforcement bodies with prosecutorial powers had since complied with the directive issued by the AGF in August, asking them to remit the duplicate files of the high profile cases they were handling to the NPCC.

A source, familiar with the ongoing review of the cases, said, “You will recall that before the NPCC began work, the AGF had written to the EFCC and ICPC, asking them to remit the duplicate files of 31 ex-governors and some other politically-exposed persons to his office.

“While the anti-corruption agencies had yet to respond, the AGF again asked the various agencies with prosecutorial powers, including the ICPC and the EFCC, to compile and remit the duplicate files of all high profile cases they had to the NPCC.

“I can tell you that the agencies have responded to the AGF’s directive and the NPCC is now reviewing the files.”

The source added that the files had been distributed to some of the 20 prosecuting teams, each comprising four lawyers, also recently pooled together by the Federal Government through the AGF.

The source stated, “We don’t want to rush to court. So we have asked some of our teams of prosecutors to look into the files and review the evidence and draft charges where there is sufficient evidence.

“After the review is completed, we will then hold a conference of all the lawyers to review the drafted charges before filing.

“We expect that all these will be concluded soon and we start filing the charges before the end of this month.”

The PUNCH obtained the list of the former governors, who were named in the AGF’s letter, and reported that some of the ex-governors included some who had been convicted for fraud charges preferred against them by the EFCC.

Some of them also had their cases terminated before full-blown trials could begin.

Others were said to be currently undergoing trial on charges initiated against them by the EFCC at either the various divisions of the Federal High Courts or the High Courts of their home states.

There are about five of the former governors who are now serving senators.

The affected personalities, it was learnt, served as governors for either one or two terms between 1999 and 2015, and were from the six geopolitical zones of the country.

The list contained the names of Senate President Bukola Saraki, who is a former Governor of Kwara State; Godswill Akpabio, a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State; and a factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, who is an ex-Governor of Borno State.

Other former governors include Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia); Chimaroke Nnamani (Enugu); Saminu Turaki (Jigawa); Sule Lamido (Jigawa); Joshua Dariye (Plateau); Ahmed Yerima (Zamfara); Gabriel Suswam (Benue); Martin Elechi (Ebonyi); Danjuma Goje (Gombe) and Murtala Nyako (Adamawa).

They also include Ikedi Ohakim (Imo); Achike Udenwa (Imo); Abdullahi Adamu (Nasarawa); Gbenga Daniel (Ogun); Jolly Nyame (Taraba); Boni Haruna (Adamawa); George Akume (Benue); Rashidi Ladoja (Oyo); Attahiru Bafarawa (Sokoto) and Adebayo Alao-Akala (Oyo).

Others are Usman Dakingari (Kebbi); Adamu Mu’azu (Bauchi); Peter Odili (Rivers), and Lucky Igbindedion (Edo).

But among them, only Udenwa, Mu’azu, Dakingari, Sheriff, Akume, Elechi and Akpabio have never been charged by any of the anti-corruption agencies.

Apart from the charges relating to his assets declared to the CCB, full-blown criminal charges relating to his tenure as Governor of Kwara State have also not been filed against Saraki.

Part of the AGF’s letter indicated that the cases against some of the former governors were investigated some years ago but charges were never filed against them.

The letter partly read, “It is clear that some of these (ex-) governors and other politically-exposed persons have not been charged to court despite the fact that the ICPC has concluded their investigations concerning allegations levelled against them, for one reason or the other.

“It is the position of the present administration that all ex-governors, who the ICPC had long concluded investigations into the various allegations levelled against them, should be immediately prosecuted.”

When contacted by our correspondent on Sunday, Special Adviser to the AGF and the spokesperson for the NPCC, Salihu Isah, said he needed time to make inquiries about the level of work of the committee

SHOCKER: N'Delta Avengers Splinter Group Names Jonathan, Wike, Dokpesi, Akabio, Others As Sponsors
A group that recently split from Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), a militant organization that has claimed responsibility for bombing numerous oil facilities, has claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan was the grand patron of the NDA.

In a statement issued yesterday by Cynthia Whyte, an alias for a male spokesman, the splinter group also named several former and serving governors as sponsors of the Niger Delta Avengers. Those named as “sponsors” included Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Seriaki Dickson of Bayelsa.

Mr. Whyte also identified Senator Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, ex-militant turned contractor, Government Ekpemupolo (alias Tompolo), Raymond Dokpesi, the founder of African Independent Television (AIT), the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Kingsley Kuku, Kimi Angozi, and Patrick Akpobolokemi as other sponsors.

The splinter group, which renamed itself Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA), had recently declared its opposition to NDA’s destruction of oil infrastructure in the region, warning that it would disclose the names of individuals and groups backing the militant group.

Mr. Whyte’s statement revealed that the NDA’s sympathizers included Edwin K. Clark, Tony Uranta, Daniel Alabrah, Ms. Annkio Briggs, and Olisa Metuh, a former spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Reformed Niger Delta Avengers named Oyege Nimi Brown, VIP Timothy, Joshua Macaiver, Paul Bebenimibo and others as the main operatives of the NDA, adding that Udengs Eradiri, the president of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), also known as Brigadier General Murdoch Agbinibo, serve as the NDA’s chief spokesman.

Following the release of the list, a source close to former President Jonathan told SaharaReporters that there was “no iota of truth to the claim that former President Goodluck Jonathan has a hand in the violence in the Niger Delta.”

The source, who asked not to be identified, said he was in touch with Mr. Jonathan, adding that the former president was considering issuing a formal statement to dismiss the claims made by Mr. Whyte.

“If former President Jonathan wanted chaos in Nigeria and the Niger Delta, he would have refused to concede the election to General Buhari and the APC,” the source said.

N108b Fraud, N1m Mr. Biggs Launch Gift Each To PDP Chairmen Earn Akpabio FG's Wrath; Properties Under Threat

Akpabio 'Earns' FG Trouble Trouble Over N108b Fraud As EFCC Set To Impound Properties
The immediate past governor of Akwa-Ibom State, now Senator of the federal Republic, Sen. Godswill Akpabio have reportedly earned the anger of the Federal Government over alleged embezzlement of N108 billion during his tenure as governor of the State between 2007 and 2015.

Hence, The antigraft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has reportedly geared up investigation on ex-Governor by writing to five banks, demanding information on Akwa Ibom State finances under Akpabio’s administration.

As if that was not enough, there is ongoing frantic move by the EFCC is to invite key members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and serving commissioners, many of whom served during the ex-governor’s administration, Punch Newspaper reports.

We have traced some houses to the former governor in Lagos and Abuja and it is just a matter of time before we seize them.”

Akpabio was first quizzed by the commission’s detectives last year following series of petitions written against him.

The former governor, now the Senate Minority Leader, was accused of embezzling public funds while he was governor of the oil-rich state.

In March 2013, he was accused of giving N1m each to six chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party from the South-South geopolitical zone that had converged on Port Harcourt for a party reconciliation session, telling them to use the money to “buy Mr Biggs.”

Few weeks ago, the Akwa Ibom State government had gone to a state High Court to get an interim order barring the EFCC from investigating Akpabio’s administration.

The Justice Ntong Ntong-led court on July 15 granted an interim injunction, restraining the EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, and the Inspector General of Police from investigating the finances of the Akwa Ibom State government.

The suit was filed on behalf of the state government by the state Attorney-General, Uwemedimo Nwoko, who also served under Akpabio and is believed to be loyal to the former governor.

However, following a motion on notice filed by the EFCC, the court on Friday, vacated the order of interim injunction restraining the EFCC from investigating the accounts of state.

The judge then adjourned the matter till October 19 for hearing of the preliminary objection of the EFCC alongside other applications.

In a June 22, 2015 petition to EFCC, an Abuja-based lawyer and activist, Leo Ekpenyong had accused Akpabio of sheer waste in office.

Among several other allegations, the petitioner alleged that between January and December 2014, the trio of Godswill Akpabio, a former aide to the governor and another associate made illegal but substantial withdrawals of cash from a designated state government-owned account with Zenith Bank with account number 101037588, amounting to N22.1bn.

When contacted on the telephone on Saturday, Akpabio’s spokesman, Mr. Aniete Ekong, said he was in a public place and promised to call back. However, he had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

According to Punch Newspaper, Part of the AGF’s letter to the ICPC,  indicated that the cases against some of the former governors were investigated some years ago but charges were never filed against them.

The letter partly read, “It is clear that some of these governors and other politically-exposed persons have not been charged to court despite the fact that the ICPC has concluded their investigations, concerning allegations levelled against them, for one reason or the other.

“It is the position of the present administration that all ex-governors, who the ICPC had long concluded investigations into the various allegations levelled against them, should be immediately prosecuted.”

The letter also gave the Chairman of the ICPC a 14-day ultimatum to “remit the duplicate case files concerning the politically-exposed persons investigated by the ICPC over the years” to the office of the AGF.

Our correspondent confirmed on Wednesday that the AGF had sent a similar request to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission with the same list of former governors annexed to his letter.

The PUNCH had reported that some of the ex-governors, according to one of the sources, include some, who had been convicted for charges preferred against them by the EFCC.

Some of them also had their cases terminated before full blown trial could begin.

Others are currently undergoing trial on charges initiated against them by the EFCC at either the various divisions of the Federal High Court or the High Courts of their home states.

There are about five of the former governors, who are now said to be serving senators.

The affected personalities, it was learnt, served as governors for either one or two terms between 1999 and 2015, and are from all the six geopolitical zones of the country.

It was also confirmed that the majority of those on the list belonged to the two dominant political parties, the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.

Another source also confirmed that a former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori, who was convicted in the United Kingdom for fraud-related charges and still serving his prison terms, was on the list.

Apart from Ibori, two former governors from the South-South, are said to be on the list.

Five of the former governors are from the South-East, and three from the South-West.

The PUNCH was informed that the ex-governors, whose cases would be reopened, included six from the North-West; six from the North-East, and eight from the North-Central.

The AGF letter defines high-profile cases as cases “involving alleged misconduct amounting to economic sabotage; involving complex financial transactions or property movement; involving any of the suspects, who is a politician, a public officer or judicial officer; and where the subject matter involves government or corruption of its official or involves the abuse of office.”

Such judiciary officers, it was learnt, would include judges allegedly involved in economic sabotage, including financial transactions.

The AGF’s letter to both the ICPC and EFCC indicated that AGF’s request for the case files was in the exercise of his powers vested in the AGF by Section 174(1) of the Constitution as well as sections 105 (3) and 106 (a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

Our correspondent’s findings showed on Wednesday that ICPC and EFCC had yet to respond to the AGF’s request.

Akpabio's Inlaws Accused Him Of Using Wife For Ritual As Her Health Condition Goes Beyond Ordinary

Akpabio's Inlaws Accused Him Of Using Wife For Ritual As Her Health Condition Goes Beyond Ordinary

Akpabio's Inlaws Accused Him Of Using Wife For Ritual As Her Health Condition Goes Beyond Ordinary
APC News Alert - Former Akwa Ibom State First Lady and wife of Senate Minority Leader, Ekaette Uloma. Akpabio is brain dead resulting from critical health condition, this paper can authoritatively report. Almost all her vital organs have failed, a medical condition doctors classify as Uremia has set in with the patient suffering from mental disorientation. As a result, a major crisis is brewing between the former Akwa Ibom State Governor and current Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio and his in-laws.

“Eka Esit Mbom” or “Mother Theresa” as the former first lady was fondly called by her supporters and loyalists when her husband was Governor of the oil-rich Niger Delta State has been critically ill for months before being in a state of coma two months ago.

Sources close to the family told our reporter that her health condition worsened suddenly as the EFCC and Code of Conduct Bureau started investigating billions of naira traced to her bank accounts as well as a multi million Pope John Paul International Nursery School in Uyo which she owns but she was unable to explain to the anti-graft agency where and how she got the money to build the school. The probe allegedly triggered anxiety and apprehension which took its toll on her for months before her health condition nosedived.

Her health allegedly deteriorated over the weekend with the failure of her kidney and liver, a situation that has left the former first lady non reactive to treatment thus not conscious of herself or environment. When her family members visited her in the hospital, she was alleged not to have recognise any of them nor could she comprehend anything they said. Her mental disorientation is alleged to be synonymous to complete insanity.

Rattled and dumbfounded by the sudden and drastic decline in the health of their daughter, Akpabio’s in-laws were alleged to have confronted the former Governor, accusing him of being the brain behind the ill health of their daughter. The In-laws accused the Senate Minority Leader of using his wife spiritually for sacrifice to acquire political power and relevance.

Akpabio on his part was alleged to have flayed up at the accusation, insisting that as the spouse, he feels the pain and trauma of his wife’s illness more than the in-laws, denying ever using his wife for ritual purposes as alleged. Unconfirmed reports say the in-laws threatened to take custody of the children for fear that Akpabio is also capable of using the children for rituals in view of his desperation to escape EFCC probe and prosecution for the over #2.5 trillion he is alleged to have stolen while he held sway as Governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2007-2015. He was said to have boasted before his wife took ill that he will do anything and go to any length to prevent being arrested by the EFCC or being sent to jail for corruption, a declaration that is fuelling suspicious among his in-laws that he might as well be ready to sacrifice his entire family if need be for political reasons.

According to a source privy to the confrontation, the in-laws were worried that in just one year after leaving office, his wife’s health could plummet so sudden and at a rate that is unprecedented with all her vital organs collapsing. The in-laws allegedly found it strange that their daughter who was a year ago healthy and could afford medical checkup anywhere in the world could fall critically sick all of a sudden, insisting that there is more to their daughters sickness than what meets the eyes.

Speaking exclusively to our reporter, an associate of the former first family who pleaded anonymity because she was not authorized to speak on the matter said Uloma’s health condition has gone critical as Akpabio’s wife is only surviving by the grace and mercy of God. “Uloma Akpabio’s condition is critical as her vital organs have collapsed. Her kidney and liver have failed. Once these two vital organs stop functioning, its not something good as it is the kidney and liver that process even the drugs she should take but when they fail as they have it becomes useless to even administer drugs”.

“Her issue is further compounded by the fact that her liver is also down. Doctors can try kidney transplant for her kidney but i am yet to hear of liver transplant. What makes her condition worse is that there is increased toxic in the blood resulting in mental disorientation and that’s the worst level of poison the body can take”, he declared.

Reacting on the development, a former Commissioner who served during the first tenure of Akpabio said what is happening to Akpabio and his wife is a clear case of nemesis catching up with the former first family, submitting that the same may befall the Udom Emmanuel family if he fails to quickly disassociate himself from the atrocities of the Akpabio dynasty against Akwa Ibom people and ask for forgiveness from those he has offended.

She insisted that though it is not African or cultural to rejoice at the misfortune of a person, the former first lady was privy to all the political motivated killings that were carried out in Akwa Ibom when her husband was in power which makes it practically impossible for most Akwa Ibom people to have empathy for her and accused Uloma of personally ordering the killings of some people especially women she believed were having an affair with her husband.

“Many people were killed by Uloma than Akpabio. The difference was that those Akpabio killed were more pronounced but that of the wife were done with much more clinical efficiency and the Department of State Security played a very prominent role in this regards as rogue agents within the service were used by the former first lady to silence perceived opponents”, she declared.

The former Commissioner noted with dismay that the crave for blood as a menu for power was so alarming during the Akpabio regime as many cabinet members who were not comfortable with what was going on within the government could not also resign and leave the regime for fear of being declared an enemy of the regime which would have qualified most of them to be marked for elimination by the “strike force” who for eight years were under the control and command of the former first lady.

“While am not happy with what is happening to her, the truth is that people should use this to know that there is a God who sees and watches anything and everything we do. I am not trying to sound pessimistic but I do not see Akpabio’s wife surviving her present ordeal because of volume of innocent blood that cry out to God for vengeance for what her family did is much. Too many wives were made widows. Too many children were made orphans by the Akpabio’s. Too many husbands had their wives kidnapped, raped and killed and you don’t expect God to keep mute forever. Their blood, tears and lamentation constantly cry to Heaven daily and must constantly haunt those behind their untimely death and this is one simple truth the many religious men and women who were sycophantic around the former first family refused to tell them because of the blood money they were receiving”.

She explained that the predicament of the former first lady should serve as a wake up call to leaders that one can still be in government and manage his or her political opponents without necessarily resorting to killing and assassination of perceived opponents and called on the present administration in the state to learn from what is happening to the Akpabio’s to avoid being a victim.

“I will not pity Uloma as she deserves whatever comes her way and i can tell you that the fate of her husband will be worse once the EFCC concludes its investigation of the ongoing probe of his tenure as Governor. But my prayer is that Udom and the wife should quickly learn from what is happening and distance themselves and their administration from anything Akpabio, lest God’s anger will also be upon Udom and his household”.

“Am not laying a curse on Udom but its a natural thing that will happen if he is not careful because a greater percentage of the deaths took place to pave the way for him to emerge as Governor. Personally, am alive today because of God as this same Uloma sent assassins to kill me that i was dating her husband. But God is my witness, her claim was not true and I became a Commissioner without knowing or meeting Akpabio before but based on recommendation some a high ranking chieftain of the PDP and Akpabio admired me because of his relationship with the one who recommended me to him for appointment as Commissioner but his wife took our closeness and relationship the wrong way. I left the cabinet because of her when it became obvious that my continued stay in the government will put my life and family at risk”, she submitted.

At Last, Akpabio Breaks Silence On Reported Plot To Join APC
The Daily Sun - The Senate Minority Leader and former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio said he was not making clandestine moves to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State.

Senator Akpabio while speaking exclusively to Daily Sun through his media aide, Anietie Ekong, said he was aware of the rumours, especially in the social media of his attempts to cross carpet and join the ruling APC.

Ekong said Akpabio’s camp was aware of the rumours, but stressed that the rumours were being spread by APC propagandists. He said Akpabio was working  with other PDP leaders to ensure that the party became formidable again. He could not be participating in solution-seeking meetings of the PDP while planning to defect to APC, he maintained.

But the state chapter of the APC said though Akpabio had yet to formally apply to become a member of the party, he had been making  overtures to some senior members of the party.

The state Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Ita Awak, told Daily Sun that Akpabio’s attempt to formally join APC was a product of rumours which he could not authenticate.

“But I am also in the know that he has made some efforts to appease some leaders of the party, pleading for understanding and forgiveness. I am aware of such moves by him.”

Asked whether APC would accept his membership,  Awak said that would be left for the party’s leadership to decide.

EXCLUSIVE: Akpabio, Tinubu In All Night SECRET Talks At Bourdillon

EXCLUSIVE: Akpabio, Tinubu In All Night SECRET Talks At Bourdillon

EXCLUSIVE: Akpabio, Tinubu In All Night SECRET Talks At Bourdillon
Ripples Nigeria's Exclusive: Senate Minority leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on Monday night held secret talks with Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, acclaimed national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos.

The talks took place soon after the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu were dragged before an Abuja High Court presided over by Justice Yusuf Halilu, to answer charges of forgery and conspiracy preferred against them.

Both were granted bail, having met conditions set by the court.

Saraki is also standing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal where he is being charged with false declaration of assets running into several billions of Naira.

Inside sources told Ripples Nigeria that Senator Akpabio, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) arrived Chief Tinubu’s Bourdillon home very late in the night without the usual police details and protocols attached to his office.

Talks between the duo lasted for about two hours and Akpabio left a little after mid-night, our source added.

Though no details of the discussions were made public, there are strong speculations that the visit may not be unconnected with attempts to find a political solution to the crisis in the National Assembly that is threatening to consume the Saraki/Ekweremadu leadership.

On Monday, the Senate President, soon after he was granted bail by the Abuja High Court, took a swipe at President Buhari, accusing him of losing grip of government to unnamed cabals within his administration.

“… what has become clear is that there is now a government within the government of President Buhari who have seized the apparatus of Executive powers to pursue their nefarious agenda.

“This latest onslaught on the Legislature represents a clear and present danger to the democracy Nigerians fought hard to win and preserve,” a statement issued by him said.

In a swift reaction, the Presidency countered via a statement authored by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the president, who said, “…as it stands, the allegation is not even worth the paper on which it was written, as anybody can wake from a troubled sleep, and say anything.

“The Attorney-General of the Federation is the Chief Law Officer of the state. It is within his constitutional powers to determine who has infringed upon the law, and who has not. Pretending to carry an imaginary cross is mere obfuscation, if, indeed, a criminal act has been committed. But we leave the courts to judge.”

According to him, “It is not in the character of our President”, to make himself a stooge of anyone.

Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu is seen as the major political force that could swing a political solution to the National Assembly impasse, having been instrumental in influencing the overthrow of former President Goodluck Jonathan and the emergence of APC as a ruling party.

He had also tacitly supported the emergence of a different set of leaders for both houses of the National Assembly.

EFCC Nabs, Probes Former Akwa-Ibom Governor Over Diezani's Bribe For Election Result Scandal

Ostensibly NOT Senator Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa-Ibom State, now Senate's Minority Leader as many would have anticipated, but a an unnamed ex-military governor of the is reportedly under the probe of the anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC in connection with N450million which was allocated to the state out of the N23.29billion allegedly provided by former Minister of Petroleum Resources Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The cash is believed to have been for INEC officials as a bribe to change the results of the 2015 presidential election our source, The nation Newspaper reports

Saraki Helpless, Ouster Looms As Akpabio, 76 Senators Queue Behind Buhari, APC

Saraki Helpless, Ouster Looms As Akpabio, 76 Senators Queue Behind Buhari, APC

The impeachment of the embattled Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki may from now become reality as a total number of 77 senators, including the Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, out of 109 have reportedly pledged their loyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari, and apparently endorsed Saraki's successor, which will likely be from the ruling All Progressives Congress.

As reported by theNicheNG, Saraki is likely to resign after the May Day holiday, but should in case he remain adamant, plot has been perfected to get him impeached, our source says.

New Punch learnt that many senators who have been in solidarity with him since his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), have now agreed to support his impeachment

Saraki has tried without success to let himself off the hook of the CCT where he faces alleged false declaration of assets.

His support base among his colleagues has diminished in the past three weeks, even when some still talk openly of their resolve to stand by him till the end.

Up to 77 senators have reportedly teamed up with President Muhammadu Buhari to get rid of Saraki.
All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, recently told a newspaper that Saraki will not get sympathy from the party in his travails.

Asked if his removal will not provide an opportunity for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to enthrone one of its own as Senate president, Oyegun said the APC would not be bothered by such a scenario playing itself out, but the party is doing everything to ensure the matter does not get to that stage.

A party source told TheNiche that the Presidency, which has distanced itself from Saraki, has engaged in what he called “harvest”.

According to the source, Buhari’s allies are wooing PDP senators, especially those from the South East and South South, to defect to the APC to shore up numerical strength of the party in the Senate.

The APC currently has 64 out of the total 109 Senators – which is short of the two-third majority of 73 to impeach Saraki.

But it seems the “harvest” is paying off as 77 senators from across party lines are now reportedly in Buhari’s column in the Saraki must go campaign.

The senators, allegedly led by Godswill Akpabio (former Akwa Ibom State governor), were said to have held a meeting with Buhari in the Villa on the night of Wednesday, April 27 and pledged their support for his anti-graft war.

“They said they have discovered that Buhari meant well in his anti-corruption war and that they have to support him,” a source disclosed.

Asked when the senators may begin moves to fire Saraki, the source said it may be after the May Day holiday.

Some senators loyal to Saraki had reportedly met in Abuja a few weeks ago and decided to ask him to resign in the interest of the office of the Senate president.
