Edo poll: PDP Allegation Of Rigging Mere Ranting Of Losers, PDP Dead In Edo - Buhari's Media Aide

Edo poll: PDP Allegation Of Rigging Mere Ranting Of Losers, PDP Dead In Edo - Buhari's Media Aide

Obaseki gets certificate of return
The initiator and leader of the Edo Shall Rise Again (ESRA) movement, Comrade Salihu Othman Isah has described those alleging that the recently conducted governorship election in Edo state was rigged as clowns who are inconsequential, and wanting to hold on to anything to discredit the September 28 gubernatorial exercise to justify their failure.

Edo state-born Comrade Isah, who is the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami insisted that the exercise was free, fair and devoid of violence, rating the exercise as one of the best organized elections in the country.

Comrade Isah reiterated his earlier call that Muslims in the state should be adequately carried along in appointments by the Obaseki administration, especially at the highest level of governance, especially with their contribution in ensuring the recent victory.

He said the election which had agents of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at every point of the exercise cannot be said to have been flawed, stressing instead that it met global standard.

According to the Edo North born politician, actor and human rights activist, the people of the state have spoken by voting the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki as their governor-elect having rated him as the best choice in the process.

He declared that an election which involved about 19 political parties fielding candidates and every one of them endorsing the choice, except one, the PDP which out of sheer desperation have chosen to discredit the process; and so should and cannot be taken seriously.

Isah is also of the opinion that it is now apparent that PDP have met its waterloo and is dead and buried in Edo state having serially lost to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) twice in the past and now the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He advised the PDP candidate, Pastor Osaze Ize-Iyamu to desist from further rubbishing his political career and to reserve his strength for the 2020 election since he has become a serial gubernatorial aspirant, instead of dissipating his energy in a legal process to claim his alleged mandate that is bound to be fruitless.

The erstwhile two-time chairman, North West zone of the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) and National Vice President, Actors Guild of Nigeria (North West) however advised the governor-elect to extend an olive branch to any political party that is willing to collaborate with his forthcoming administration to bring the state forward, pointing out that this includes the PDP if it is willing to.

“It is my candid belief that elections are now over and the business of moving Edo state forward should now take the front burner. The outgoing governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has done his best, and his huge legacy needs to be built upon. So, there is serious business ahead.

“The good is that the people of the state have spoken and this they have done with a loud voice by investing their fortune on the pair of Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki and Hon. Phillip Shuaibu to steer the ship of state for the next four years.

“And painfully though, for those that have lost the election, of course; tomorrow is another day. There are many more governorship polls to be contested in the state in future. For now, the contest has been won and lost. I believe that for those sensible Edolites, the new challenge should be what development strides should be attracted to their constituencies.

Therefore, all hand must be on deck to face the new challenge so that Edo state should be better for it. We must take a cue from Lagos state who usually votes for continuity. Let me also use this opportunity to thank all Edo sons and daughters and citizens of other communities resident in Edo state who have been part of the violent-free electoral process on September 28 till date for a job welldone.

I want to particularly extend my gratitude to the Hausa/Fulani, Nupe and Ebira indigenes resident in the state for voting overwhelmingly for the Obaseki/ Shuaibu ticket. It is my candid opinion that they are the best pair Edo can wish for now.”

Edo Election: We Were Thoroughly Defeated Without Fraud - PDP Chieftain, Reps Member Says, Congratulates Obaseki

Obaseki
A member of the Federal House of Representatives and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Ej Agbonayima, has described the the victory of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the recently conducted gubernatorial election in Edo state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, as very transparent and “a true reflection of the wishes of the people of the state.”

Agbonayima who represents Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency of Edo state in the green chamber, who stated this while congratulating Obaseki, also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for conducting a free and fair election in the state.

He said: “I want to congratulate both Obaseki and INEC, Obaseki deserves it because it is the obvious that the generality of the people of the state wants him and that is democracy in action. For the fact that I am a PDP man does not mean I will not commend something good. I live in America and they don’t play do or die politics. So I congratulate Obaseki and I hope he will surpass Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s record because he has a huge challenge before him now.

“And for INEC, you see most times all of us blame INEC for inconclusive elections but you can see that it is not their fault with what happened in Edo state. There was no violence in that election, no killing, people came out freely and happily to cast their votes and you saw the result. So that will tell you that if we don’t witness violence INEC will always conclude elections.

“So we have to orientate our politicians not to see politics as a do or die thing. they should emulate what happened in my state Edo so that we will not continue to rubbish INEC. This has shown that if politicians behave themselves, INEC will do their job perfectly.”‎

Recall that the APC candidate, Mr. Obaseki, defeated 18 other candidates, including his closest rival and candidate of the PDP Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, in the gubernatorial election.

How Anenih 'Helped' APC To Victory In Edo - PDP Chieftain, Says Few Votes PDP Got Are Protest Votes Against Buhari Over Hunger

Edo Anenih and oshiomhole
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Senator Roland Owie, is not on the same page with other leaders of the party on the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mr.Godwin Obaseki, in Wednesday’s governorship election.

While the generality of PDP leaders have alleged manipulation of the election result in favour of the APC, Owie, Senate  Chief Whip in the Second Republic and PDP elder in the state, said Obaseki deserved victory.

He said the PDP  could not have won with the way former Minister of Works, Chief Tony Anenih,  was playing god and imposing candidates at will.

Anenih, he said, was wrong “to impose the deputy governor slot on Esan people after what he did with the governorship slot.”

Anenih is from Uromi in Esanland.

Continuing, Owie said: “Any leader who takes political decisions on selfish interests gets destroyed at the end. Such leader is like a spider. Whatever a spider eats turns to poison.

“Why on earth will Chief Anenih impose a deputy governor on Esan people after what he did with the governorship slot?

“He has been playing god and now God has told him that all powers belong to God.”

He was even more damning in his assessment of the votes garnered by the PDP in the election.

His words: “The higher percentage of the votes our PDP got in this election were votes against hunger and hardship brought by the APC federal government and not for the PDP.”

“I hope Chief Anenih will enter his house now and allow people of goodwill to re-organise the PDP. I congratulate Godwin Obaseki and not the APC, because there is hunger and hardship in the land.”

Chief Anenih, who is fondly called Mr. Fix-it by his admirers on account of his political dexterity, is the PDP leader in the state.

Soon after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mr. Obaseki winner on Thursday, Governor Adams Oshiomhole  named Anenih as one of the political godfathers humbled by the APC victory.

He said: “In Esanland, the senatorial zone of the PDP godfather, we won two out of the five local governments.

“We gave  him a fight that he managed to escape. He used the factor of his age to play on the emotion of the people.

“Edo people are now proud they can now determine who rules them and no one godfather can choose a leader for them.”

#EdoDecides Result Updates: APC, PDP In Neck-To-Neck Race
The Edo State governorship election, held on Wednesday, appeared to be a tight race between the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, and the standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Early results from some wards in the state, which had not been authenticated by the Independent National Electoral Commission, indicated that the two candidates were running neck and neck in the poll.

The two main parties, however, claimed to have gained comfortable lead in the election while accusing each other of planning to rig the poll.

While unconfirmed results showed that the PDP won seven out of the eight units in Ward 3, Uromi in the Esan North-East Local Government Area, where a former chairman of the BoT of the PDP, Chief Tony Anenih, hails from, the APC won one unit.

Also, the APC lost in the polling unit of the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, where the PDP emerged victorious.

The APC, on its own, won in Ward 7 in the Oredo Local Government Area of the state.

The APC scored 4,412 votes while the PDP got 4,047 votes.

The governorship candidate of the PDP in the 2012 election in the state, Maj. Gen. Charles Airhiavbere (retd.), who is now a stalwart of the APC, led the ruling party to beat the PDP in Unit 18, 19, 20 and 21 of Ward one in the Oredo LGA.

In Unit 18, PDP got 158 while the APC got 259. In Unit 19, APC scored 146 and PDP polled 85.

In Unit 20, the APC got 259 votes while the PDP polled 208 votes and in Unit 21, the APC scored 128 votes leaving the PDP with 98 votes.

In Oredo Ward 12, out of the accredited 4,399 voters, the PDP took the lead with 2,066, leaving the APC with 2,041.

In Oredo Ward 4, out of the total accredited voters of 4,911, the APC scored 3,058 while the PDP polled 1,541.

The national leadership of the PDP alleged on Wednesday night that the APC was planning to overturn its alleged victory in the Edo State governorship election.

The party said the results it received from its agents in the state indicated that it was leading the APC with a wide merging in the election.

Spokesperson for the party and member of its National Caretaker Committee, Mr. Dayo Adeyeye, stated this in a statement in Abuja.

Adeyeye said, “Having received results from our agents at approximately 1,800 of the 2,627 polling units spread across the 192 wards in the 18 local government areas of Edo State, we can confirm that our party has attained a near unassailable lead in the Edo State governorship election.

“The results so far confirmed to us that our candidate has garnered approximately 55 per cent of the total votes cast by voters.’’

He alleged that the PDP was aware of the alleged connivance between the state government and a national commissioner at INEC to rig the election in favour of the ruling party in the state.

Adeyeye, a former minister of state for works, added, “We will like to reiterate our earlier note of warning: The Edo people and our party will resist any attempt to subvert the collective will of the people as expressed by their votes today.”

He urged members and supporters of the party in the state to continue guarding their votes at the ward collation centres and the local government collation centres.

“Eternal vigilance is the price we all have to pay for victory,” he added.

Also in a statement, the state Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chris Nehikhare, said it was surprised that INEC had delayed the announcement of the results from wards.

He said, “Voting stopped at 2pm and votes were counted immediately at the unit levels. From results made available to us, we are in a very comfortable lead.

“We are, however, shocked that up until now, no ward result has been declared.

‘‘We are aware that the APC and INEC plan to change the results at the collation centres and we wish to want that any change of the results will be met with stiff resistance.’’

But reacting to claims by the PDP, the APC said the opposition party was being mischievous “as usual”.

The APC National Vice-Chairman (South), Mr. Segun Oni, said, “The PDP is simply being mischievous.

“From the results I have seen from the field, from where we are monitoring the elections here in Abuja, the APC is in a comfortable lead.

“Out of a hundred, the PDP has not won five, even in units they claim to have won. We are investigating because the number of voters exceeds the number of registered voters per unit.”

Also, the state Chairman of the APC, Anselm Ojezua, dismissed the allegation, describing it as mischievous, since only INEC had the constitutional power to determine the winner of the election.

Ojezua said, “The fact that they are actually making those claims already tells me that there is mischief in the air because it is traditional that even when you know what the situation is, you have to wait for INEC to announce the results.

“If you see the fantastic results that are being posted from certain locations, you know that they could not have been credible. Therefore, I think that what they are doing is just to create more confusion.”

He, however, expressed concern on the announcement of results from the Ovia North-East Local Government Area on the Internet.

Ojezua added, “We are concerned about the figure being circulated on the Internet about the Ovia North-East. Certainly, we are collating the results and we will officially respond.’’

He, however, expressed concern on the announcement of results from the Ovia North-East Local Government Area on the Internet.

Ojezua added, “We are concerned about the figure being circulated on the Internet about the Ovia North-East. Certainly, we are collating the results and we will officially respond.’’

SHOCKER: 'Abdulmutallab, Convicted US Bomber To Vote In Edo, INEC Releases 2 Version Of Voters Register - Oshiomhole Cries Out

SHOCKER: 'Abdulmutallab, Convicted US Bomber To Vote In Edo, INEC Releases 2 Version Of Voters Register - Oshiomhole Cries Out

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab,
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who was jailed in the United States in 2012  for terrorism offences has appeared on the voters’ register in Edo state.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole drew attention to the existence of  AbdulMuttalab’s  portrait in a fake voters register now in circulation.

A high stake governorship election is due in the state tomorrow, with the All Progressives Congress candidate, Godwin Obaseki locked against Pastor Ize Iyamu of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

Oshiomhole spoke about AbdulMutallab  during a visit to him by the United States Consul General in Lagos, Mr F John Bray.

The Edo governor said he was shocked to see the portrait of the “underwear bomber” in the fake register, but with a Benin name.

Abdulmutallab was convicted of attempting on December 25, 2009. to detonate explosives hidden in his underwear on board an airline from Amsterdam to Detroit, Michigan.

Governor Oshiomhole who raised concern about the duplication of the voter’s register by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said “the foundation for credible election is the voter’s register. Once the voter’s register is manipulated, then you have problems.

“Right now, we have evidence of two versions of voter’s register – the one they have officially distributed and the one that some elements within the ICT in INEC have also produced in Abuja.

“And what they have done in the past, which we hear they want to re-enact again, is that whereas they will display one voter’s register which is reasonably accurate, there are still some flaws but let me say it is about 85 percent accurate, they also have a fake one which they intend to bring and spring a surprise in certain locations where they believe that they have no chance, and when the voters go there and you find a voter’s register different from the one that you know, there will be confusion in those voting centres.

“At the end, you may end up having people’s voice level going up and one thing leading to the other, and you could have violence. We will show you those samples between the one that we know and the one we have gotten through our intelligence and I want to give a copy to the embassy, and so you can study it and see it. That, for me, is the only thing I am worried about.

“If the INEC has two versions of voters register and they display one officially, then we have a problem. And the reason why this is extremely worrisome for me is that in my election in 2012, INEC tried to use this method to disenfranchise many of our supporters.”

“For example, I was shocked to find the portrait of Mr Abdulmutalab, and that will interest your Excellency, the young man who has been jailed in the US for a terrorist act. His portrait is in the fake voter’s register with a Benin name under it. I am sure if you look at the face, if we don’t know the face, you the US officials know the face. And you find the name under it, that it is a Benin name in Ovia South West.”

“He said INEC has enlisted some members of the opposition as election observers. “Last night, in my local government, one of the PDP leaders, who incidentally is on the list of INEC observers, I can be very specific, one Tenebe. we have information that he got boys around and they were shooting but the police went to apprehend them; they engaged the police in a shooting.

“The police had to go and reinforce. As we speak, I don’t have information as to how that was settled. If you have people like this engaged in violence, then it poses a challenge.”

“Unfortunately, it takes more than one hand in this case to achieve a free and fair election. All the political parties must be committed to putting away this thing.

The United States Consul General, Mr John Bray, who led a delegation of election observers to the Government House said, “We are here to observe the elections, we will all be watching this election very closely. It is essential that the election is peaceful, fair and credible and reflect the will of the Edo citizens.

“The postponement was a setback a few weeks ago, but I still believe it offers us the opportunity to hold the first successful and transparent gubernatorial election in states in 2016.

EDO 2016: My Ambition Not Worth Anybody's Blood - Obaseki

the All Progressives Congress in Edo State, Godwin Obaseki,
Like former President Goodluck Jonathan, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has said his ambition is not worth the blood of anyone.

Obaseki said though he was disappointed with the postponement of the governorship election, he would rather drop his governorship ambition than to have hoodlums hijack the election and shed the blood of innocent citizens.

He explained that he had no option but to accept the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to shift the election from September 10 to September 28, 2016, based on security report by the police.

A statement by his media aide, Tunde Oladunjoye, quoted Obaseki as saying this in a chat with journalists in Lagos on Sunday. He said, “We were ready for the election, but when the police belatedly raised the issue of security, there was nothing we could do.

“I will rather not be a governor than to have the blood of many people shed by miscreants that were imported into Edo State to cause havoc.

“How many people have been tried or charged to court for the wanton killings and violence in Rivers State, let alone being convicted? How many people have been arrested for the blatant murder of the Port Harcourt lawyer?

“These imported hoodlums have nothing to lose, they are not from Edo, and would not think twice before killing our people the way they killed people in Rivers State.”

He, however, said he was optimistic that he would achieve victory come September 28, the new election date. “The APC will win the election convincingly any day or time.

The postponement was just a mere shift of the doomsday for the People’s Democratic Party and others,” Obaseki said. “The people of Edo State have made up their mind never to go back to the dark era. “They know me, they know the lineage of my family, they can trace me from four, five generations back; they know I don’t have a violent past; I have never been charged or tried for violent behavior.”

Edo guber poll: Why Muslims’ll vote for Obaseki - Salihu Isah ...Canvasses a Muslim Chief of Staff

Edo guber poll: Why Muslims’ll vote for Obaseki - Salihu Isah ...Canvasses a Muslim Chief of Staff

Godwin Obaseki
A top chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and human rights activist, Comrade Salihu Othman Isah has revealed that the APC gubernatorial candidate in the September 10 election, Mr. Godwin Obaseki would be a Muslim-friendly governor if elected into office.

Isah, a fiery journalist and astute politician who is now serving as the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN) enjoins all Muslims to cast their votes for the Godwin Obaseki/Phillip Shuaibu joint ticket on the platform of APC.

The Edo state born politician however debunked the ongoing widespread insinuations that Mr. Obaseki’s regime will Islamise the state, describing those behind such wicked and baseless allegation as fantastically failing politicians who would introduce any weapon, including such imperious blackmail in order to win elections.

He equally advised the All Peoples Congress (APC) to involve Muslims in the state at top level as it the campaign enters its critical stage of the door-to-door unit campaign if his desire is to easily triumph over his opponents at the poll.

Isah recalled that previous administrations in the state have not adequately carried Edo state Muslims along in the scheme of things, especially in the allocation of the dividends of democracy, especially appointments at federal and state levels.

Also an actor and immediate past (erstwhile) National Vice President, Actors Guild of Nigeria (North West zone), Isah popularly known as Hotman believes for the sake of balancing a Muslim should be appointed as Chief of Staff to the next government since we have a Christian governor, deputy governor, Speaker of the House of Assembly, SSG and HoS.

According to him, the fact that the APC candidate want to ensure an equitable leadership which will benefit the Muslim Ummah should not and must not be interpreted to mean Islamising Edo state, where Christians dominate the population.

“It is baseless and wicked blackmail for anyone to think or come up with such spurious allegation as to anyone for that matter attempting to Islamising Edo state where Christians have controlled and still control the population. Besides, Nigeria is secular state and the constitution allows for multiple religions.

The Nigerian constitution guarantees right to religion and right to association as well as right to expression and agitation and as such Muslims in Edo state will continue to clamour for even distribution of our commonwealth. Anything short of this is unacceptable.

“So, those who have decided to introduce this new dimension of dangerous politicking, this politics of propaganda into Edo state, taking their stupid and unscrupulous directionless campaign to this level are only bereft of ideas and having seen the handwriting of defeat staring at them on the wall, simply chose this path of blackmail. The idea is simply to weep up Christian sentiments against Obaseki because the Muslims have chosen to vote enmass for the APC ticket.

“Personally, I have been campaigning and mobilising the Hausa/Fulani, Nupe, Igala and Ebira Muslim voters for Godwin Obaseki/Phillip Shuaibu ticket. First and foremost, due to the fact that it is the surest ticket for progress and development of the state, then for me because Muslims stand to gain a lot from the unique leadership they will introduce.

“I believe Obaseki will make the right adjustment by giving Islamic faithfuls a sense of belonging by righting the wrongs in the past. It will not be asking for too much as equal stakeholders in the process of fostering a statehood, making Edo state stand its own in the comity of states in the country.”

Come to think of it! Is it not crazy for anyone to believe a Christian/Christian ticket would turn around to introduce Shariah or Islamise the state? Whose agenda would they be serving? And what would they want to achieve by doing that? I beg e, the blackmailers should be more ingenious in their dirty game.

Isah went on to opined that a situation where the Christians adopt a Winner-takes-All in the past when appointments are being made into the state executive council and boards of parastatals and institutions at both the state as well as the state representatives at the federal levels should be discarded.

“In Obaseki, we would have a Muslim-friendly governor, no doubt. But Islamising the state under whatever guise, count him or the APC out it. Currently, some of his best friends and associates are Muslims, including the current richest man in Africa, Aliko Dangote. They were together at the stock market (Nigeria Stock Exchange). These are part of the reason his leadership will favour Muslims. So, I implore all Islamic adherents to vote the Obaseki/Shuaibu ticket come Saturday.

“The five pillars of Islam are the Shahada (Faith), Salat (Prayer), Zakat (Charity), Saum (Fasting) and Hajj (Pilgrimage to Mecca). These are the five tenets on which Islam is built. But if because he observes some of the Islamic dictates, they say he is a Muslim who wants to introduce Islamisation to the state, so be it.

But the electorate should be forewarned before they are hoodwinked, because when some politicians of certain hue are bereft of ideas, to them anything goes”, the ex-chairman of Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), North West zone cautioned.

“So, to me Obaseki is a ‘Muslim’ because he adheres religiously to a part of Islamic dictates such as Zakat (Charity) and Saum (Fasting). Obviously, he observes Salat (Prayers) as well in his own ways. Therefore, he might not be a practising Muslim since he does not observe or complete the five pillars of the religion viz; five daily prayers, he has not observed the holy pilgrimage to Mecca, but he performs zakat, which is caring for the needy, as encouraged by the holy books.

I believe, and indeed sure that Obaseki at the helms of affairs in Edo state would be the best thing to happen to the followers of the Islamic religion, in terms of empowering the Muslim youths and women....

He will also guarantee a more conducive environment for Islam to thrive, allowing adherents free practice of their faith as enshrined in the nation’s constitution.

Obaseki might not be a practicing Muslim; he however adheres to the Islamic principles of faith in his relationship with the Muslim Ummah especially in Nigeria and specifically in Edo state. He believes in the tenets of Islamic and so deserves the votes of Muslims in the September 10 election so he can take the state to the next level from which the Muslim Ummah would benefit greatly.

Defection Tsunami Hits Edo PDP As Tony Anileh, Other Leaders With Over 3000 Members Defect To APC

Defection Tsunami Hits Edo PDP As Tony Anileh, Other Leaders With Over 3000 Members Defect To APC
Chief John Odegie-Oyegun has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is dead following the mass defection members of the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Vanguard reports that Oyegun made this comment when he received more than 3000 PDP leaders into the APC in Oredo local government area in Edo state.

Some of the top PDP members who defected to the APC include Mr. Ebima Ogbeide, Tony Anileh, (Not Tony Anenih) Madam Goldenpenny, Pius Izemwingie, Ikponmwonsa Usiobafoh, Mrs. Vero Aguebor, Wilfred Enabulele, secretary ward 5, and Mr. Ebima Ogbeide.

Chief John Oyegun The chairman of the APC said the party was still ready to accommodate as many PDP members who were interested in leaving. “Massive development has already started in the state, and we welcome people who have the interest of the state and are progressive minded to join to continue with this development.

Looking at the calibre of leaders defecting, I laugh when I see PDP boast of winning. Honestly, they are dead and buried in Edo.” Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo also confirmed that the PDP was now irrelevant in the state and it was impossible for the party to win.

He said: “The defection of Dennis Evbuomwan, the Oredo PDP leader, marked the end of the party in the state. For me, the coming of Evbuomwan, and other leaders of the PDP in Oredo, along with their unit leaders, means they are here with a complete story.

The unit heads are the real people in the field. A few weeks ago, Alhaji Abubakar Momoh led thousands of members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the PDP. Momoh who was the senatorial candidate of SDP in the last general election in Edo North led members and supporters to resign en-masse from the party to join the PDP at a campaign rally held at Royal block Courtyard at Auchi in Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.

“We decided to join the PDP because it has a candidate that will help Edo State get out of where it is today which is not comfortable. That candidate is a person who I believe will help to move Edo forward.”

Like Buhari, Obaseki's Certificate MISSING, PDP Raises Alarm, Blows Hot
Just like the certificate saga that penultimate the President Muhammadu Buhari's election in 2015, the Peoples Democratic Party has raised an alarm over a purported missing certificate of Godwin Obaseki, the All progressives Congress, APC gubernatorial candidate in Edo State.

The state chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, during  a campaign rally on Cooke Road in Benin, raised concerns over claims by Obaseki that he lost the original copies of his academic credentials, Punch News Paper published

Orbih, who displayed a document which he said was a copy of the affidavit sworn to at an Abuja High Court, stated that Obaseki had claimed that he lost the original copies of his primary, secondary, university and National Youths Service Corps’ discharged certificates at a date that was not given.

According him, the APC candidate had in the affidavit  dated June 7, 2016, allegedly claimed that, “all originals of my above said certificates are kept in a safe custody in my office but, unfortunately, during the process of relocating from one office to another, I misplaced the original of the above said original documents.”

He had also said that Obaseki claimed that he had the photocopies of his secondary, university and NYSC discharge certificates.

Orbih, therefore, challenged him to tell Edo people the whereabouts of his credentials.

But the Obaseki campaign organisation dismissed the statement as false and an act of “chasing shadows.”

Orbih said, “The reasons he (Obaseki) advanced are so flimsy and unconvincing. There are many questions begging for answers. The affidavit does not contain the locations of where he was moving from and to or the state where he lost the certificates.

“Did he report to the police when he lost the certificates? If it was reported at the time they got missing, we want him to tell us.”

He continued, “One will expect that he must have reported the matter to the police. If he did, why did he not attach a copy of the police extract?

“We also do not understand the choice of an Abuja High Court. Did he do that so that Edo people will not know that he claimed he lost his certificates? Is it not unusual that someone will keep his certificates in the office?

“We don’t want to have a careless governor who will misplace vital state documents and give flimsy excuses. Edo State deserves a better person.”

The Deputy Director (Communication, Media and Publicity) of the Obaseki Campaign Organisation, Greg Ogiogwa, in a statement on Monday evening said the affidavit was self explanatory.

Ogiogwa explained, “It is an old trick used by the PDP that has always failed them. They did it to (Adams) Oshiomhole. They did it to (Muhammadu) Buhari and now it is the turn of Obaseki.”

200,000 jobs for Edo State: Realizing The Godwin Obasaki's Dream, Joseph Odok

200,000 jobs for Edo State: Realizing The Godwin Obasaki's Dream, Joseph Odok

200,000 jobs for Edo State: Realizing The Godwin Obasaki's Dream, Joseph Odok
Nigerians are hardworking people. It takes a little commitment by the government and a little motivation to make most Nigerians realise their goals. The increasing unemployment especially amongst our youths and women is mostly a result of the failures of government and the lack of goodwill of our leaders; especially in the area of instigating the teaming unemployed Nigerians to tap their rich human and natural resources. The greed factor has been a setback in the sustainable stride towards fulfilling the constitutional minimum benchmark of the government's duty of providing for the security and welfare of it's citizenry. Africa's major setback is the culture of waste and inability of government to stimulate growth using our rich human and natural resources.
The major cause of the government's failure to deliver the gains of democracy is the tendency of government to initiate projects for the projection of their primitive spirit of wealth acquisition; to the exclusion of the urgent needs of the people. These selfish projects are often a conduit pipe for extortion and an institutionalized system egoistic extortion from the wealth of the masses. A serious and selfless government can provide jobs for the teaming unemployed Nigerians. Instead of investment on elephant projects, state government should focus more on investing monies that accrue from the federation account and internally generated revenue to revamp the economy and provide jobs for it's citizenry.
Agriculture remain an untapped sector of our economy capable of providing lots of job opportunities for our unemployed Nigerians. If agriculture is taken care of, the economic policies of Godwin Ibaseki's administration can go a long way to provide employment opportunities for Edo peoples. In Edo state, the central Edo is rich in oil palm and grains; the south is rich in rubber; while the central rich in cocoa. These are important cash crops that can provide technical and financial investment capable of boasting the economy and provide jobs. This is besides the rich deposits of crude oil found in Edo state.
Next to Agriculture is the requirement of training citizens and arming them with necessary technical and leadership skills to take advantage of the workforce for industrial growth. The workforce will not only boast industries, but also create direct and indirect jobs.
Edo has enormous potentials in the entertainment industry. The government can create jobs by funding and encouraging performing artist thereby creating jobs
There is also the need for infrastructural development and expansion for rapid growth. A strong infrastructure will not only encourage economy, but will also serve as a catalyst that will open Edo state to swift transfer of goods and services in and outside Edo state, thereby creating jobs.
All the government of Godwin Obaseki is poised to do, is to instill the culture of wealth creation, innovation and entrepreneurship through hard work and dedication with a view to creating a multi resource economy that can lead to the realization of the 200,000 jobs.
In achieving this, the Godwin Obaseki's campaign organization does not hope to rely on paper certificate. While not discouraging formal education, it recognises on a sad note, that most certificates are but frustrating pieces of papers lacking in possibility of assuring our youths of their daily bread. Fortunately, civilized economy does not reduce education to paper certificate; even some African countries like Ghana, Kenya, South Africa etc have shifted from over emphasis on paper certificate with increasing emphasis on technical know how. The Godwin Obaseki's administration is poised to give due attention to technical education in the areas of metal works, wood work, carpentry, hair dressing and barbing, tailoring and fashion designs, mechanical engineering, etc to provide employment opportunities. Tapping into these will help in the realization of 200,000 job creation dream of the Obaseki's campaign organization
Yes we can, the 200,000 job creation dream of the Godwin Obaseki's campaign organization is realizable. APC Edo state has the answer. A prudent spending and selfless commitment towards fulfilling the campaign promises will do the magic. It begins with a dream, once supported by commitment, prudent spending and good planning, the dream is a sure come true.

EDO 2016: Obaseki Steps Down For PDP's Ize-Iyamu
There was excitement in Benin, the Edo State capital, on Sunday as the governorship campaign took on a dramatic twist, and boost for the PDP candidate in the forthcoming election in that state.

The governorship candidate of the Accord Party, Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki announced that he is stepping down for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the September 10, 2016 election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Obaseki who is a younger brother to Godwin Obaseki, candidate of the All Progressives Party, said he is collapsing his entire political structure into the PDP, in support of Ize-Iyamu.

Dr. Obaseki, a veteran writer and university lecturer, said he decided to endorse Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu because he realised that he is the best candidate for the election.

He described Adams Oshiomhole and his brother, Godwin Obaseki as ‘betrayers and unworthy of trust’.

Ize-Iyamu and Governor Oshiomhole had earlier had a war of words when the PDP candidate during his campaign in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of the state on Friday, vowed to probe the administration of the incumbent if elected.

Ize-Iyamu also challenged Oshiomhole to investigate the eight years he (Ize-Iyamu) spent in office as Chief of Staff and Secretary to the State Government.

According to him, “every kobo that has come to Edo State must be accounted for. That is his fear; that is why he can no longer sleep.”
Oshiomhole soon after, fired back, that the threat was laughable.

According to the governor, Ize-Iyamu and other PDP chieftains have to account for funds collected during the 2015 general elections.

Pastor Osagie  Ize-Iyamu has emerged winner of the Edo State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primary held in the state today.

The National Committee of the party for the conduct of the primaries, led by Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State declared Ize-Iyamu winner.

The election was contested by only aspirants from Edo South, namely Chief Solomon Edebiri, Mr Mathew Uduoeyekemwen and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Of a total 713 votes cast, Ize-Iyamu emerged winner with 584 votes followed by Uduoeyekemwen who polled 91 votes while Edebiri garnered 38 votes. There was no void.

The election was witnessed by among others, the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa and Jimi Agbaje, PDP governorship candidate of Lagos State in the last general election, who counted the votes at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the venue of the election.

Ize-Iyamu, was the Secretary to the State Government under the administration of former Governor Lucky Igbinedion’s, while Uduoeyekemwen was Majority Leader in the House of Assembly at the time.

He will now face Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress, APC,  in the September 10 governorship election in the state.

However, there are concerns that the Ali Modu Sheriff’s faction in the state may also come up with their own candidate, a situation many analysts believe will not do PDP much good in the election.

He said, “This is internal democracy of the party. So, I do not expect, quite naturally, any rancorous situation. Imaginary boundaries within the party should be removed so that we can have a formidable platform for the general elections. I do not see any reason we should be decipating energies on those things that will not reinforce the integrity of what we represent as change agents.

Agbomehere had earlier said he would accept the outcome of the primaries as a loyal partyman that supports unity of the party.

On the contrary, report according to Sunday Sun suggests that the primary was marred by allegations and counter allegations of bribing delegates with huge sums of money.

The delegates were alleged to have induced with large sums of money ranging from N100000 to N450000, in what was regarded by many as competition among the aspirants as to who would be the highest bidder.

Tension heightened last night as some of the aspirants engaged Governor Adams Oshiomhole in hot exchange over alleged interference in the nomination process. The exchange was intermittent between the governor and Imasuagbon, one of the aspirants.

Imasuagbon was later joined by the deputy governor and former Minister of Works, Chris Ogiemwonyi, both of whom were displeased with the governor’s frequent movement among the delegates while voting was on. It took a great effort of both security agents and some leaders to calm Imasuagbon down.

At a stage, the atmosphere in the stadium became charged, forcing the chairman of the APC Primary Election Committee, Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari to make a public announcement, urging all delegates who has voted to leave the stadium. He was supported by the state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, who also asked delegates that had voted to leave the venue, threatening: “Or we will leave with you.”

However, he warned against the repeat of what happened in Bayelsa when thugs took over the gubernatorial primaries of the party.

Former lawmaker, Hon Razak Bello-Osagie described the party primaries as a show of the party’s democratic values, The Nation Newspaper reports

“We need a candidate whose activities are predicated on vision, purpose, integrity, leadership and service. It is a family affair, so I expect that the process will go on peacefully to the glory God Almighty and to the benefit of humanity.
