Obanikoro Strikes 'Amnesty' Deal With FG, Agrees To Testify Against Fayose, Others Over $2.1b Arms Fraud
The embattled former Minster of State for defense, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro may have struck a deal with the Federal Government to stand as a prime prosecuting witness against some allies who are involved in the $2.1 billion arms scam, New Telegraph reports suggests

According to NT, the Federal Government may have concluded plans to make use of a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Mussiliu Obanikoro, as prosecution witness against the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and a former deputy governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, in the ongoing probe of $2.1billion arms deal involving a former National Security Adviser (NSA) to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Fayose, had earlier been indicted by a military panel, which alleged that Fayose was among those given the money released by the former NSA, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd.), in the build up to the 2015 general elections.

Saturday Telegraph gathered from sources within the presidency that Obanikoro, who flew into the country during the week, and surrendered himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had been penciled as one of the prosecution witnesses to be used against Fayose, when he is eventually brought to justice.

Although, the governor enjoys immunity as guaranteed by the constitution, indications emerged that he might be prosecuted as soon as he finishes his tenure. Obanikoro, who is alleged to have also soiled his hands in the arms deal, would in return be left off the hook and not prosecuted as expected, as an agreement had been reached that the Federal Government would file a nolle prosequi (no case submission) against the former minister.

The source, who spoke with our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, explained that, with the manner the deal was brokered, Obanikoro, who was in the United States, had no choice but to agree and return home.

“The former minister offered to nail Fayose and reveal the secrets between them after much pressure, so that he can save himself. He was told that they will let him go if only he could help them, by standing as a prosecution witness against Fayose.

“They have been on it since March, but it took some time before he could agree to play along with them. He was also accused of fraud, that’s why he didn’t want to come back home until they gave him this chance. “It was an opportunity to redeem his image and walk freely.

He took a wise decision by accepting the offer to be a prosecution witness because he can’t continue to hide in the United State. There is no place like home”, the source said. Obanikoro had been in the news lately over reports that he had confessed to the EFCC and revealed all that transpired between him and Fayose. He was reported to have admitted that he gave Fayose the sum of N2.3billion from the NSA.

Another source, who claims to be privy to the details of the negotiations, said that the powers that be had already made up their minds to nail Fayose and that is why the Muhammadu Buhari-led adminstartion is exploiting that option.

“You know that a sitting governor has immunity, but we are prepared to wait till 2018, by then, he would have finished his second term in office and there won’t be any immunity for him. One thing is certain; a lot of people would have been convicted by then, including some of his indicted aides.

“And if all those indicted with him are already in jail before his tenure ends, tell me how he won’t face his own music. It is only a matter of time before the long arm of the law catches up with him”, the female source said.

However, Fayose, apparently disturbed by the turn of events, had earlier issued a statement, alleging that the return of the ex-minister from the United States was an “arranged and compromised” move that is tailored towards nailing him. Fayose described Obanikoro’s voluntary return and his surrender to the EFCC as an orchestrated plot to see that he is “implicated at all costs”.

“Those who arranged the dramatic and compromised return of Senator Obanikoro to Nigeria obviously did so in continuation of their project ‘Fayose must be implicated at all cost’ but I am not bothered because my election was legitimately funded.

“However, if this is why they are intimidating judges and the judiciary, it won’t work as far as my own matter is concerned as no one can play God. As far as I am concerned, I am busy here in Ekiti attending to the welfare and well-being of my people.

I won’t be distracted” While the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwajeren, did not respond to text message sent to him on the matter, Fayose’s spokesman, Lere Olayinka, said his boss was aware of the anti-graft agency’s plan.

He however said the governor would not trade words with the commission. Olayinka said: “We already know what they want to do, but we are not perturbed. We don’t need to respond to their actions, we shall meet in court”.

Jibrin EXPOSES Dogara's godfather, A PDP Chieftain Who Forces Lawmakers To Secret Oath Before Any Appointment

Jibrin EXPOSES Dogara's godfather, A PDP Chieftain Who Forces Lawmakers To Secret Oath Before Any Appointment
The crisis rocking the lower national legislative chamber of Nigeria is escalating day in and out with so many secret deals being exposed. The embattled former appropriation chairman, Mr. Abdulmumin Jibrin has named Senator Iyiola Omisore, a former Deputy Governor of Osun State and chieftain of the opposition  Peoples Democratic Party as the godfather of the Speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara.

Jibrin made this disclosure in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the APC, John Oyegun, Jibrin said he made “an error of judgement’ in supporting Dogara to be the Speaker.

According to the letter, confirmed by Punch Newspaper, Jibrin said his relationship with Dogara began to suffer when he started getting reports of the Speaker’s alleged “corrupt practises.”

“We practically disagreed on almost everything.

“His godfather is Sen Iyola Omisore. Speaker Dogara is of the habit of taking standing committee chairmen to swear an oath of allegiance before Omisore.

“During the build up to the appointment of committee chairmen, I had a terrible disagreement with him. I stayed far away from him.

“Who will I tell or run to having played such a leading role in bringing him on board? He operates alone, keep weird relationships with top politicians.

“I was in London when he insisted that he wanted to see me. He came to my hotel room and we talked for hours. I gave him a lot of advice, but I never knew it was getting in from one ears and out from the other,” Jibrin said.

The lawmaker added that Dogara was disloyal to the APC and predicted that he would soon plan an attack on the ruling party.

The lawmaker, who recalled “the leading role” he played in the emergence of Dogara,  the Deputy Speaker, Lasun Yussuff and the House Chief Whip, Alhassan Doguwa in the current offices they occupy in the House, described the Speaker as “a green snake under green grass.”

Jibrin said, “The role I played, to the best of my conscience at then, sir, was patriotic. I analysed the two candidates (Dogara and Femi Gbajabiamila, who is not the Majority Leader of the House) and felt Speaker Dogara had a better temperament to make a good Speaker.

“It was a narrow line of thinking, an error of judgement. It took only few weeks after the election for me to realise the … inside the skin of Speaker Dogara. That was when I started getting reports of his … practices for many years in the House undetected. I fell apart will Speaker Dogara instantly. Contrary to public belief, we have never been close since few weeks after he emerged Speaker.

“We practically disagreed on almost everything. From the appointment of committee chairmen, to splitting of committees, to nondisclosure of the finances of the House, to his greed of unifying everything under his control, commercialisation of bills, divisive approach across ethnic and religious line, arrogance and power drunk, during the budget period among many others. But who will I tell or run to having played such a leading role in bringing him on board.”

The lawmaker said it was “a painful, frustrating and depressing period” for him.

“I wish to state that I deeply regret the role I played in the emergence of Yakubu Dogara as Speaker. I seek the understanding and forgiveness from you, our leaders and every member of the APC family that was hurt by my action. Thank God Almighty, I am young and energetic. I will be 40 on September 9th. I promise that moving forward, I will dedicate and completely commit myself to achieving the goals set out by the party. This case should serve as a lesson for everyone in the future,” Jibrin said.

The lawmaker stated that he had not abused his office but his offence was that he refused to be used in the House.

“I am pretty sure the anti-corruption agencies will do their job and all our party men and women will know the truth at the end of the day. My offence has been my refusal to be used as conduit to facilitate free flow of corruption in the House of Representatives. I came under severe pressure during the budget period to break procedures and commit fraudulent actions.

“When they could not use me, the Speaker (allegedly) connived with few committee chairmen and they opened a bazaar of corrupt insertions into the budget. I complained to the Speaker but he took no action, only for me to discover later that he, his deputy, whip and minority leader were (allegedly) indeed the ring leaders of that …cabal in the House. All they wanted was to do away with me, considered the obstacle.

According to Jibrin, problem started when President Muhammadu Buhari returned the budget. He alleged that when he was invited to a meeting of principal officers, the Speaker denied he knew anything about the insertions.

“Jibrin said he had decided to “capture properly” his allegations against Dogara and 12 others in the letter “so that you will understand the gravity of the matter at hand and also understand that the allegations are beyond budget issues and includes tens of other criminal allegations that cannot be swept under the carpet.”

The lawmaker reminded Odigie-Oyegun that the world was watching how the APC would deal with the issue of “incontrovertible corruption in high places.”

He said, “Here, you have a golden opportunity to show the world that there is zero tolerance for corruption in our great party, the APC. Even more is the having a serving member that understands this issue in my person, who has offered to stand as witness and provide every support to the anti-curruption agencies to investigate the allegations thoroughly and commence prosecution in earnest.

“There is no better way of demonstrating our commitment to the fight against corruption than to use Speaker Yakubu Dogara and the 12 others as example…”

All efforts to reach Omisore, Dogara to get their responses on Sunday night were futile, Punch Newspaper reports.

SHOCKER: How Fayose, Mimiko, Omisore Plotted My Assassination At Akure PDP Meeting - Senator Kashamu

SHOCKER: How Fayose, Mimiko, Omisore Plotted My Assassination At Akure PDP Meeting - Senator Kashamu

The senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Buruji Kashamu has revealed how he escaped an assassination plot allegedly hatched by Governors Ayo Fayose and Segun Mimiko as well as former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Otunba Iyiola Omisore.

Senator Kashamu, who made the revelation yesterday while speaking with some of his close associates in Abuja, said the incident that happened at the Alagbaka Government House in Akure, Ondo State where members of the Makanjuola Ogundipe-led South West Zonal Exco and the delegates from Ogun State were beaten up was targeted at him.

The leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South West had called a meeting for Akure, the Ondo State capital, to deliberate on the national offices zoned to the region ahead of the proposed August 17th National Convention.

The Senator said the game-plan, which was hatched by the trio of Fayose, Mimiko and Omisore, "was for their thugs to beat up my people and prevent them from entering the venue of the meeting. They had thought that once they do that, I would be provoked and would want to forcibly lead my people into the hall. Of course, there would be resistance and then a free-for-all would break out. Their evil agenda was to catch in on the situation and shoot me dead."

According to him, "the trio then got a willing tool in a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, whom they told to man the gate, with some thugs that he had armed with machetes and cudgels, and prevent the authentic delegates people from entering the venue of the meeting.
"Of course, Ladi carried out the assignment given to him by personally supervising the blockage and beating up of the authentic delegates from the South West Zonal Exco and Ogun State.

"But unknown to him, they meant to implicate him because Fayose and Omisore had mixed 10 bad and arms-bearing boys from Ekiti and Osun states with the crowd who were to shoot me at the slightest provocation.

"The meeting was scheduled to begin 12 noon on that fateful day. So, the plan was that if I got there and tried to force my way in, Ladi and his people should resist. There would be a bedlam. Then, I could be shot in the ensuing commotion."

The lawmaker revealed that if he had been shot and killed as planned by Fayose, Mimiko and Omisore, the story would be that they had yet to get to the venue of the meeting when the incident occurred and that it was an extension of the internal wrangling within the Ogun State chapter of the PDP.

He noted that, "While Fayose was still in Ekiti monitoring events from there, Omisore was waiting in one of the border communities between Osun and Ondo states. He was waiting for the deed to have been done before he would turn back and return home. Mimiko tucked himself somewhere in the inner recesses of the Government House."

Senator Kashamu said about 48 hours to the meeting, Fayose was talking to him as if all was well while at the same stoking the embers of discord in Ladi Adebutu and encouraging him to fight him and his people at the Akure meeting, with a promise to subtly back him (Ladi Adebutu) up.

The lawmaker added that when he got to the Government House in Akure, party leaders and their supporters who had been beaten and shut out of the meeting became charged and urged him to forcibly lead them into the hall of the meeting.

"But I resisted the pressure to do so. I knew that if I did, there could be a clash between my people and the aggressors. So, when I thought of the likely consequences, I persuaded them to leave the Government House in peace. I led them out. That was how what could have been a bloodbath was averted. It was God that saved me and other innocent party leaders and members from being killed over nothing," he said.

Bigger Trouble For Omisore As EFCC Uncovers Fresh N2.5b Budget Padding Fraud, N'Assembly Implicated

Bigger Trouble For Omisore As EFCC Uncovers Fresh N2.5b Budget Padding Fraud, N'Assembly Implicated

Omisore
Apart from the N1.3 billion scandal rocking the former Osun State Governor, Otunba Iyiola Omisore, another can of worm, which involved a huge sum of N2.5 billion has been uncovered by the detectives of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, News Punch understands

The detectives of the antigraft agency have recovered a sensitive document, which gave an insight to the new fraud perpetrated by Omisore from his Abuja home during his arrest, The Nation Newspaper account says

According to our source, the document shows how N60billion was voted for extraneous overhead expenses for some senators and members of the House of Representatives in the Sixth Assembly, according to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission( EFCC) sources.

Omisore, former deputy governor of Osun State, was the chairman of the Senate Appropriation Committee between 2007 and 2011.

The anti- graft agency is probing  the document to identify the senators and members of the House of Representatives who got the largesse.

An EFFC source, who spoke in confidence, said when detectives went to search the Abuja home of the ex-deputy governor, they stumbled on the “budget padding” document in his bedroom.

The source said a sober Omisore joined issues with the EFCC operatives, asking why they were interested in the document.

The source said: “In the course of searching Omisore’s residence at 1, Kainji Crescent in Maitama, Abuja, we stumbled on a document on budget padding worth about N60billion for some Senators and House of Representatives.

“Immediately we picked the document, Omisore was a bit concerned. He asked our operatives to limit their investigation to only the N1.310billion from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) but we insisted that we are interested in the document.

“It contained a list of budget padding of about N60billion and how it was spread for some Senators and members of the House of Representatives from 2007 and 2011.

“A crack team is already looking into the details of the padding of the budget and the affected Senators and Representatives.

“Certainly, as a former chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, we expect him to speak on the document.

“The fact that Omisore proved difficult before we arrested him has actually paid off for EFCC. His stubbornness has assisted in opening new investigation frontiers. If he had honoured our invitation as a gentleman, we might not have been able to get these new areas of investigation.”

To get to the root of the matter,  the EFCC has written to the management of the National Assembly to explain why it paid N2.5billion to Omisore.

The letter followed the discovery of the strange remittance in Omisore’s account by the management when he was a serving senator.

But the management, in a response to the EFCC signed by a top official, said Omisore was not awarded any contract or engaged for any service to have warranted such a payment.

In a follow-up letter, the anti-graft agency mandated the management to be more “forthcoming on what the N2.5billion was meant for to have earned remittance into the account of the ex-deputy governor”.

The NASS bureaucracy has up till the end of this week to clarify the “purpose of such a huge payment” to an individual.

There were indications that the commission may quiz two former National Assembly and Senate Clarks as well as and some management members of staff in the Finance Department, including directors.

According to EFCC findings, the strange payment of N2.5billion was discovered during the screening of Omisore’s transactions in the course of investigating a N1.310billion  illegally allocated to Omisore and three companies by the ONSA.

The source added: “We were able to detect that the sum in question was transferred from the Skye Bank account of the National Assembly to Omisore’s account.

“We got a letter from the management that Omisore did not at any time execute any contract for the National Assembly or offer any service to be able to earn such a payment.

“We have written another letter to the management to explain why the money was paid to Omisore. We want those in the relevant desk behind the payment to guide the EFCC accordingly.

“We are expecting a detailed response from the management of the National Assembly, including vouchers for the payment and authorisation. Once we get their response, we will invite those connected with it.

The source explained: “This was why we secured a court warrant to detain Omisore to get to the roots of this latest payment.”

After about three months of hide and seek, the EFCC arrested Omisore in Abuja for alleged N1.310billion ONSA slush funds traced to him  and three companies.

The PDP's Misadventure At Ooni's palace, By Ibrahim Lawal
It is no longer news that Otunba Iyiola Omisore is cooling his feet at the EFCC detention facility after his failure to fulfill the bail conditions granted him by the anti-graft agency.

I have also refrained from making comments on the arrest and detention of the former senator and one-time PDP gubernatorial candidate at the 2014 election in the state of Osun because it is "unYorubaness" to rejoice at another person's misfortune.

However, I was jolted by the news circulating on the social media that a factional chairman of the Osun PDP, Mr. Olusoji Adagunodo paid a visit to the Ooni's palace for the sole purpose of His Royal Majesty's intervention on the arrest and detention of Iyiola Omisore.

They were shamelessly apologising on behalf of the detainee for his refusal to pay homage to Ooni since his assumption to the throne of his forefathers. Whereas the Adagunodo led factional PDP executives did not at any time enjoy the blessing of Omisore as his annointed candidate in person of Faforiji still pretends to hold on to Ogo Oluwa's office of the PDP. More worrisome was the absence of the elected PDP representatives in Ile Ife on that mission.

It is also pertinent to state that after the visit of these personalities to the Oonirisa's palace, some people loyal to Omisore had been lampooning the Adagunodo and his band of travellers of deliberately setting out on a mission to mock and denigrate "Apesin" of the source. They were of the view that such a visit was not done with the best of intention as Omisore did not approve of such visit to the revered paramount king of the source.

Adagunodo by the singular act had shown that he is capable of making political capital out of every situation. His latest move is aimed at cutting Omisore's influence in Ile Ife to size by bringing to the full glare of the public, Omisore's lack of regard for the person and office of Oonirisa, our beloved Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja fidi ote jale. Or how do one explain Omisore's refusal to pay homage to Ooni months after ascending the throne of his forefathers.

It is also ridiculous to drag our esteemed royal fathers into a purely criminal matter. The fight against corruption has taken his victims from across the length and breath of this country, and no where was any traditional rulers dragged into intervening in such issues. Our Ooni has started well. His focus is to develop the source of the Yoruba race, empower the youth and engender peace and harmony in Yoruba land. Let those who have axe to grind with the law bear their cross and take responsibility for their actions.

Our Ooni should be left alone to face the onerous duty of being a father to all and a custodian of culture and tradition. Let those who feel aggrieved go to court. Ile Oodua will no longer be a willing tool for the advancement of criminality.

The above genre was waxed for Christopher Iyiola Omisore, the once impeached deputy governor of Osun state, the man who won his "senatorial election" from prison, and the erstwhile almighty chairman of Senate Appropriation Committee and two time governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), by King Sunny Ade who graced his chieftaincy ceremony in Osogbo in the mid 90s.

It was during the regime of military junta headed by the late goggled maximum dictator, Sani Abacha. Omisore was hangling to become a governorship candidate of one of the political parties established by Abacha called United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) then. At that material time, old politicians who were known with their brand political names had been banned from contesting any political offices by the military. So, Omisore was among the new breeds thrown up by the system.

His emergence on the political consciousness of Osun State was exciting, because he was seen as a young man loaded with cash known as war chest in the political parlance, and his flamboyant life attracted the youth with corrupted ideology of the 90s, and Omisore set to rule the state until Abacha, the strong leader who had languished activists and political actors of opposing views in perpetual detention, including yours sincerely, died like terribly sick chicken in 1998.

So, by the time Gen. Abubakar Abdulsalam took over and declared open a democratic space, his body language suggested that he meant business; politicians went to work and formed new parties to take power, and when the slain Chief Bola Ige and co formed Alliance for Democracy (AD), Omisore read the handwriting on the wall, and pitched his tent with the new fold with a view to realizing his ambition.

In the permutation to the candidacy of the party, Omisore was picked as the deputy governor to Chief Bisi Akande who was the pioneer chairman of the party in the state, and in fairness to him, Omisore brought his youthful appeal and wealth to the table, while Chief Akande brought only load of experience in governance. It ought to be a perfect combination, but the ambition differed and irreconcilable differences set in.

Akande once ran into a troubled water of industrial dispute, and the way the crisis was handled made the government unpopular, and Omisore could not stand the danger the unpopular opinions constituted to his ambition. So, he chose to betray the trust that bound him and his boss in order to gain from the crisis. The battle shifted to the state House of Assembly, and he obviously financed the impeachment exercise against Akande. Unfortunately for him, the impeachment was thwarted by the pro-Akande lawmakers amidst violence, and the table turned against the deputy governor Omisore.

Nobody envied Speaker Mojeed Alabi's job then, the very brilliant academic cum politician had to navigate between the turbulence of political red sea, and a devil spoiling for war. In the process, Bola Ige who came to express his disgust about the supposed rude of Omisore to his boss was molested by some thugs said to be loyal to Omisore  at the palace of Ooni of Ife, to an extent of being rescued by Ooni Okunade Sijuwade, and few days after, he was brutally slain at his Ibadan home.

At no distant time, a strong supporter of Omisore in the impeachment saga at the state parliament, Odunayo Olagbaju was also brutally killed, and Osun became a tension zone. Eventually, Omisore was impeached but Akande was not returned as second term governor in 2003. Perhaps, the pain of impeachment was deep in Omisore's mind that he vowed to become the governor by all means. And give it to him, he has been struggling to achieve his aim since.

The 2014 governorship election in Osun gave Omisore away as a politician with different worldview, he won the ticket of his party, (PDP) with ease, after he had reportedly subjected his perceived archival, Isiaka Adeleke, the first governor of the state to a threat to life and succeeded in easing him out of the party. To show his strength, he went to the presidency to take a walk with the then President Goodluck Jonathan who had pathological hatred for Rauf Aregbesola, the reigning governor, for denying him victory in 2011 general election in the state, and when the photo finish with the president went viral, Omisore boasted that he had become a governor already.

He had the federal might behind him, he was advanced with dollar dominated campaign machinery, he blared siren like a governor, he walked around with full military and police complement, and he threatened thunder against the sitting governor, to an extent that some political pundits had conceded victory to him, but Aregbesola was a different specie. He roared with political venom and hurriedly adopted a nickname "Dagunro" the poisonous plant that could not be consumed by anyone irrespective of his diabolical power.

Aregbesola moved to town and found shield in the fanatical support of the people who were determined to go to war with federal powers should there be an attempt to rig the election in favour of Omisore. Truth to plan, stern looking soldiers were deployed, masked DSS officials were deployed, and compromised policemen were deployed with sole aim of rigging the election in favour of the Ife born politician, but Daguro led by the front and peoples' eyes became red on the D-day, the election was held and the massive plan of the last chance fell, as the compromised security operatives were made helpless. The violence quietened.

However, the general election that saw to the ouster of Jonathan from Aso Rock appeared to be the demystification of Omisore, he lost the pecks of the centre, he was routed in the State, and he lost the great Ooni who had sympathy for him. And he walks around now like a political orphan. Hmmmm. What a law of gravity!

Today, Omiore is a fugitive, as he has been declared by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) wanted for N700 million fraud. Now, he wants his fundamental human rights established, and he wants the rights activists to take his case up. What a diminishing return! The instructive lesson from this politician is that everyone should be conscious of consequence of his or her action, for every step in life is a space in history.

My take is that I would not want Omisore to be persecuted for his political belief, but it would be to his best interest to surrender himself to the EFCC and clear his name, so that the fraud case would not be added to his perceived conspiracy in Bola Ige's murder. I love his zeal and drive to get his goal, but I hate his disposition to violence, nothing personal.

'Why Are You Doing This To Me', Omisore Kicks As EFCC Declared Him WANTED

'Why Are You Doing This To Me', Omisore Kicks As EFCC Declared Him WANTED

Why Are Yu Doing This To Me, Omisore Kicks As EFCC Declared Him WANTED
A former Deputy Governor of Osun State and Senator, Mr. Iyiola Omisore has described his declaration by the antigraft agency, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC wanted as mischief and character assassination.

The EFCC had earlier declared Omisore wanted on its official Facebook page over his receipt of N700 million from a former National Security Adviser, retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki.

The commission further accused Omisore of evading arrest.

It said this leaves it with no choice but to declare him wanted.

The EFCC position on its Facebook page reads: “The EFCC, today, May 24,2016, declared a former deputy governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore wanted. The former senator is wanted in connection with a case of receiving and misappropriating the sum of over N700, 000,000.00 from the Office of the National Security Adviser, between June and November, 2014.

“Omisore has been elusive and refused to report to the Commission after invitation was extended to him on April 7, 2016 requesting him ‘to come and make clarification on the ongoing investigation’.

“Instead of responding to the Commission’s investigation Omosore had approached the Federal Capital Territory High Court for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights. Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf consequently ordered that Omisore should only be arrested through a due and legal process.
“The EFCC thereafter obtained a warrant to effect the arrest of the politician.”

But Omisore apparently in reaction to EFCC declaration said it's an attempt to blackmail him.

The former Deputy Governor in a statement just released this evening said;

"I read the statement issued by the Econimic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) purportedly declaring me wanted as an attempt by that organisation and its leadership to tarnish my image. That statement, if indeed it was issued by the EFCC, is the height of mischief and a deliberate attempt to assassinate my character.
It is now very clear that the EFCC is indeed playing out the script of persecuting and harassing perceived opposition groups in the country. To be sure, there is no basis for the EFCC so-called statement. Only on Tuesday, May 24, we appeared in court with the EFCC asking for the permission of the court for an extension of time in the preliminary objection to a suit filed against me.
The Managing Director of Firmex Gill which the EFCC joined in their case indemnified me from the company's contracts and any such obligations. In other words, there is nothing relating to me in the company's contract deal with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
The company has even sued the ONSA for its inability to pay the balance of the contract so awarded to it. Therefore, I am not aware of any issue relating to a contract sum of N700 million. There was no issue of N700 million anywhere.
The relationship between the company and ONSA is civil and contractual, which has nothing to do with me. Besides, so long as their business transactions are legitimate and since I am not directly managing the company, how am I to know who and who they do business with? The EFCC should not be seen playing the role of political victimisation of innocent individuals, coercion and blackmail. Sadly that is simply what this organisation has been doing. Blackmail, I strongly believe, won't help EFCC.
If the organisation and its leadership think they have any case against me, they should come to court with their facts. This act of blackmail and deliberate tarnishing the image of perceived political enemies won't help the image of the EFCC and it won't get it result.
How can you declare someone you were in court with at 9.00a.m today wanted the same day, a few hours afterwards? I am appealing to all human rights and civil society organisations to caution EFCC from damaging my reputation further. If they have facts, I challenge them to bring them to court and not resort to blackmail, intimidation and victimisation."

Omisore Joins Buhari's Blacklisted 'Fraudsters' Over N442.6m Contract Fraud

Omisore Joins Buhari's Blacklisted 'Fraudsters' Over N442.6m Contract Fraud

This might not be the best time for Senator Iyiola Omisore, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Osun state 2014 governorship election, who is battling with the political onslaught on his structures and supporters within the party in the state as he has also joined the list of corrupt politicians already blacklisted by President Muhammadu Buhari's anti-corruption fight.

Just as he was fighting the battle within his party, the two-time senator has been allegedly linked with the ‘one fraud too many arms scam at the office of former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki.

It was gathered that the former Deputy Governor of Osun state has been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to answer question on a N442, 600,000 contract awarded to a firm linked to him.

The letter, signed by Abubakar Madaki on behalf of the acting chairman of EFCC, reads: “The commission is investigating an alleged case in which your name featured prominently. In view of the above, you are requested to interview the undersigned on Monday, April 11,

2016, at No.30, Harper Crescent, Wuse Zone 7, at 10 am. Your cooperation in this regard is solicited.”

According to sources, the contract was awarded to the company by the former NSA, and Omisore was a director of the company when the contract was awarded and N370 million paid.

The sources alleged that part of the N370 million contract fund was deposited into Omisore’s personal account.

EFCC was investigating how the contract was executed, inline with the recommendation of the Presidential Committee on the procurement of arms and ammunition.

The anti-graft agency was acting on the intelligent report that the N442, 600,000 was not executed.

Sources close to the investigation said a company, Fimex Gilt Limited, submitted proposals to Dasuki on combating terrorism and, in particular, the illegal influx of terrorists into the country.

The N442 million proposal centred on: Border protection and Intelligence Services

Programme;Supply of Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs); and Provision of training support for non-conventional counter-terrorism methods.

The Managing Director of Fimex Gilt Ltd, Adetona Famadewa, alleged that the company “established a relationship with the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA) through a third party, to wit: the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade”.

He said N370 million was paid from the N442 million and the contract was not “renewed due to the change of government”.

Famadewa said N52, 600,000 was outstanding. But after facing a Contract Review Committee, the company was directed to “refund the payment it received from ONSA”.

The company was among 241 referred to the EFCC for investigation, leading to Omisore’s invitation.

The EFCC is probing how part of the N370 million paid to Fimex Gilt Limited was remitted into Omisore’s account.

But Omisore, through his lawyer, Wole Jimi-Bada and Co. wrote the EFCC interview should be rescheduled to April 14.

The counsel said in part: “Your letter dated April 7, 2016, and addressed to our client and

delivered to his security at our client’s residence has been passed on to our chambers.

“We regret to inform you that our client travelled briefly out of Abuja but will return by Wednesday evening accordingly to our instructions. Consequently and unfortunately, he will not be able to attend the interview schedule, as requested in your letter under reference.

“On his behalf, we humbly request that the interview be rescheduled for April 14, 2016, for him to honour your invitation. “We regret any inconvenience this request may cause you.”

EFCC sources said rather than coming for interrogation on the appointed date, Omisore approached the High Court to restrain it from performing its statutory functions.

Omisore in the application asked the court to restrain EFCC from arresting him, saying that there was “imminent danger” that he would be arrested and subjected to inhuman treatment.

In an affidavit deposed to by Detective Nuru Buhari Dalhatu, dated May 6, 2016, the EFCC prayed the court to dismiss Omisore’s application.
