ONDO Election: INEC Counter-Accused PDP Ondo Factional Gov. Candidate, Jimoh Ibrahim Of Attempt To Bribe REC
News Proof 25.10.16 No comments Edit Post
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has accused Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim of attempting to compromise the Ondo State Resident Electoral Commission (REC), Mr. Olusegun Agbaje.
The commission also restated its earlier position that there was no truth in Ibrahim’s allegation that its Acting Director, Legal Services, Mrs. Toyin Babalola, demanded $1 million from him to comply with court order recognising him as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ondo State governorship election. Ibrahim had, at a press conference on Sunday, alleged that Agbaje “requested to hold a meeting with him (Ibrahim) in London in the United Kingdom.”
He, therefore, called for Agbaje’s removal as Ondo REC as he would not conduct a credible election on November 26. But in a statement yesterday by Prince Adedeji Soyebi, National Commissioner in Charge of Publicity, INEC said Ibrahim was economical with the truth. According to the commission, it was Ibrahim, who through an intermediary, tried to arrange a meeting with the Ondo State REC in London.

“This, Mr. Agbaje promptly declined and insisted that if Mr. Ibrahim wanted to see him (Agbaje), he was free to do so at the Ondo State INEC office during official hours.
“Therefore, Mr. lbrahim’s allegation cannot be the correct account of what actually took place,” the statement added. The commission also said there was no time when Babalola demanded $1 million bribe from Ibrahim before she could act on Justice Okon Abang’s court order.
It added that preliminary investigation revealed that “Mr. Ibrahim turned up at the INEC headquarters, Abuja unannounced, made his way to Mrs. Babalola’s office, brandished a copy of the court document and insisted that INEC should accept him as the official candidate of the PDP for the Ondo governorship poll.
“On sighting the unexpected guest, Mrs. Babalola called three other lawyers in her department to witness her encounter with Mr. Ibrahim and politely told him that the commission was already in possession of the court document.
“At no time during the encounter that lasted less than 15 minutes did Mrs. Babalola ask for $1million. “Therefore, the allegation by Mr. Ibrahim is false.” INEC noted that court orders/judgements are served by court bailiffs and not individual parties.
It also added that the commission only receives nomination papers from the national chairmen of political parties or their designated officials and not aspirants. The commission assured that it will never succumb to any form of blackmail or intimidation, but will remain focused on its determination to deliver free, transparent and credible elections, based on the rule of law.

Ondo Guber Election: Mimiko Launches Killer Squad, Kidnapped My Mother - Billionaire PDP Factional Candidate, Jimoh Ibrahim Alleges
News Proof 19.10.16 No comments Edit Post
Sahara Reporters - Jimoh Ibrahim, the controversial factional candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo state has accused the outgoing governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko of inaugurating a “killer squad” ahead of the November 26th, 2016 governorship election in the state.
Mr. Ibrahim alleged that the killer squad was launched a few days ago at the Government House in Akure with the aim to cause unrest specifically in the southern part of the state.
He made the accusation in a petition sent to President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday.
SaharaReporters obtained copies of the petition with the title: "Petition Against Governor Olusegun Mimiko's Readiness To Set Ondo State On Fire: A Security Concern."
Mr. Ibrahim detailed to President Buhari in his petition that the governor had been holding meetings with his cohorts on plans to unleash terror on the people of the state.
He also accused Mimiko of being the brain behind the successful abduction of his aged mother who was kidnapped by masked gunmen a few years ago in her hometown in Igbotako.
“Your Excellency Sir, Governor Mimiko held various meeting with his Labour Party people in the last few days inside the Government House, Akure, where he indicated, after weeping for sometimes, that he cannot take the disgrace of the court order replacing the candidate of his party Eyitayo Jegede, and that he will rather set Ondo state on fire, by killing any time that I start my campaign."
“He has appointed killers to coordinate his evil desire. One of such appointed killer is even from my town, and this man has been ordered by Governor Mimiko to organize these acts in the Southern Senatorial District of Ondo State.
“In the not distance past, the said Governor arraigned for my mother’s kidnapping, it took me five days to recover my aged mother. Ondo State is one of the leading States in Nigeria on matters relating to kidnapping and murder.
“For example, only last month, the former chairman of my local government was killed on his way back from church. In Ondo State, people are now living in fear”, Mr. Ibrahim said.
He added that the action of the governor was a result of the judgment delivered by Justice Okon Abang, which ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognize him (Jimoh Ibrahim) as the authentic candidate of the PDP for the poll.
Mr. Ibrahim has also asked President Buhari to prevail on the Directorate of State Security (DSS) to investigate killings ordered by Governor Olusegun Mimiko during the campaign to prevent anarchy in the state.
“Your Excellency, it is imperative that the State Security Service should not allow anyone to contest the upcoming governorship election in the Ondo state under the PDP apart from Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim in respect of which the court order is specific.
“This is imperative to prevent a state of anarchy in Ondo state and also in line with the specific order of the court and due adherence to the rule of law and the time-honored principle of separation of powers,” he said in the petition.
The controversial PDP candidate added that he would soon begin his campaign in the state following the authentication of his candidature by the Federal High Court.
He, however, said his supporters are already living in fear due to the threat to their lives and properties by sponsored political thugs in the state.
Ondo Governorship: Court SACKS PDP's Eyitayo Jegede As Guber Candidate

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to accept Jimoh Ibrahim as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State.
Justice Okon Abang gave the order in a ruling on an application for the enforcement of his earlier judgment delivered on June 29, 2016.
The judgment came after the electoral body recognised Eyitayo Jegede, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, as the governorship candidate of the PDP in the state.
The court, in the June 29 judgment, in a suit with number, FHC/ABJ/CS/395/2016, had ordered INEC to only accept the names of the candidates sent by the Biyi Poroye and Ademola Genty-led Executive Committee of the PDP in the state.
Poroye and Genty, who applied to the court for themselves and on behalf of the Ondo State Executive Committee of the PDP, said the post-judgment application was informed by INEC’s refusal to accept their candidate, as directed by the court in its June 29 judgment.
In his ruling on Friday, Justice Abang held that INEC had no justifiable reason not to accept the candidate submitted to INEC by the plaintiffs.
He noted that INEC participated in the proceedings leading to the June 29 judgment but failed to oppose the case of the plaintiffs.
The judge wondered why INEC did not promptly comply with the judgment when it did not have any objection to the case.
He further faulted INEC’s stance by not complying with the judgment as there was no appeal filed against the judgment.
The judge ruled, “INEC knew that issues were not joined by parties on the date of the election but issues were joined by parties as regards who INEC was ordered to deal with exclusively during the plaintiffs’ tenure as executive officers.
“As for PDP in Ondo State, the purport of the order of court being that any election conducted by INEC during the applicants’ tenure in office, INEC has no choice but to accept the list of candidates from the instant judgment creditors/applicants herein.”
The judge then ordered INEC to “accept and process for the purpose of its functions and activities in the organisation and conduct of the Ondo State governorship election only the nomination of Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim Folorunso, who emerged from the primary election conducted by the 1st and 2nd plaintiffs/applicants, as candidate of the 2nd defendant (PDP) in the said Ondo governorship election.”
He also ordered INEC to “reject and jettison any other nomination form(s) submitted to it by any other person(s) apart from the 1st and 2nd plaintiffs/applicants, indicating that no other person, apart from Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim Folorunso, is the candidate of the 2nd defendant for the Ondo State governorship election.”
Meanwhile, the Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the Ondo State chapter of PDP has urged its members to disregard the court judgment.
In a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the Makarfi- led faction of the party, Mr. Banji Okunomo, the party maintained that Jegede remained its candidate for the forthcoming governorship election.

With this development, the PDP has elected two candidates for the election.
The opposition APC would today elect its candidate out of 24 aspirants.
Though the primary poll conducted by the Makarfi-led group, in Akure, was monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), likelihood existed that the party’s candidate would be determined by court, where the two contending national chairmen are battling for legitimacy.
The Sheriff’s faction conducted the primary poll in Ibadan, fearing breakdown of law and order in Akure.
Jimoh Ibrahim polled 502 votes in the PDP governorship primary election held inside the Banquet Hall of the Premier Hotel, Ibadan, with the other aspirant, Olusola Ebiseni, scoring 41 votes.
Ibrahim was among the five aspirants who jostled for the gubernatorial ticket.
Three others, Mrs. Abiye Ademoyegun, Bamiduro Dada and Niran-Sule Akinsuyi withdrew from the race and declared their support for Ibrahim.
The electoral committee was headed by Barrister Ahmed Gulak, special adviser to former president Goodluck Jonathan.
He was supported by Shettima Shehu, Chief Tunji Akinosi, Elder Layi Falaju, Mala Sheriff, Ozo Uchechukwu Ngwu, Bimbo Balogun, Prince Poroye Bill Biyi, Ikenna Nnajioffor, Lawan Gana Karasuwa and the secretary of the committee, Bernand Mikko.
