2019: Tinubu, Atiku Realigns, Form New Party To Tackle, APC, Buhari - Report

2019: Tinubu, Atiku Realigns, Form New Party To Tackle, APC, Buhari - Report

ATIKU AND TINUBU
National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar are reportedly considering floating a new party ahead of the 2019 general elections, Daily Trust reports.

The report quoted a source as saying both Tinubu and Atiku are unhappy with the presidency but do not want to come out openly on it.

Tinubu’s anger with the Presidency started after the running mate to the party’s late governorship candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu, James Faleke, was subsequently replaced with the incumbent governor, Yahaya Bello.

Other issues according to the source include leadership crises at the National level and the Ondo election that saw the emergence of former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, as the party’s candidate in the upcoming governorship election in the state.

Following the emergence of Akeredolu, Tinubu had demanded the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun for allegedly overruling the party’s National Working Committee, NWC’s recommendation asking for the cancellation and conduct of a fresh primary poll in the state.

According to the source, “Tinubu is having a serious realignment with Atiku on the possibility of pulling out with their teeming supporters if President Muhammadu Buhari continues to look the other way.

“While Tinubu expected to win Kogi, Atiku wanted to be the chairman of the BoT, but the presidency frustrated their efforts.”

Ondo APC Brouhaha: More Trouble As NWC Members Queue Behind Tinubu Against Oyegun, Demand His RESIGNATION

Ondo APC Brouhaha: More Trouble As NWC Members Queue Behind Tinubu Against Oyegun, Demand His RESIGNATION

APC John Odigie-Oyegun
The Daily Sun - If all things go as planned, some members of the All Progressives  Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC) will demand will demand the resignation of National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

The demand is against his alleged role in the party’s Ondo governorship primary.

The planned move may take place during the party’s NWC meeting  slated for today or Wednesday, against the backdrop of minutes of its emergency meetings on September 20 and 22,  as well as other documents detailing  how the APC leadership settled for Chief Rotimi Akeredolu as the party’s governorship candidate.

APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Timi Frank confirmed that some NWC members will demand Oyegun’s resignation during the meeting over the handling of Ondo primaries.

“I can confirm to you that some NWC members will revolt against the chairman; they will demand he quits his office. I also know that some NWC members who are on his side will reject the demand”, he told Daily Sun.

Frank also issued a statement asking Oyegun to publish minutes of the NWC meeting where the decision to back Akeredolu was taken.

“Chief Oyegun should tell the world why he brushed aside the suggestion of National Youth Leader, Hon. Dasuki Jalo, who suggested that the party should submit an interim name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) pending the time a political solution will be find to the matter. But, Oyegun and few others who benefitted from the corruption that produced Akeredolu as governorship candidate of our party did not see wisdom in what the national youth leader said.

“Chief Oyegun’s few responses to the many of allegations raised by our leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu can never hold water. For example, the chairman and his cohorts contradicted themselves when Oyegun said there was no voting at all but he forgot that National Vice chairman, Hilliard Eta told newsmen that there was voting, which was in agreement with the position of the party’s South-west National Vice Chairman, Chief Pius Akinyelure, who also said that the NWC members actually voted on the Ondo State Governorship Appeal Panel Report.

“This was what Oyegun said in his statement: “Also, voting on the issue became unnecessary and never took place in view of the NWC’s rejection of the Appeal Committee’s report.”

However, minutes of the two meetings obtained by Daily Sun, as well as other documents on the primary showed who and who voted for and against the submission for of Akeredolu’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the flag-bearer of the party.

The first NWC emergency meeting was attended by 15 members. They were Oyegun, his deputy (South), Segun Oni, his deputy (North), Senator Lawal Shuaibu, National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni, Zonal vice chairmen- Emmanuel Eneukwu, Prince Hilliard Etagbo Eta, Pius Akinyelure and Mallam Zakari Idde.

Others included National Treasurer, Alhaji Bala Mohammed Gwagwarwa, National Organising Secretary, Osita Izunaso, National Auditor, George Moghalu, National Financial Secretary, Tajudeen Olaotan Bello, National Youth Leader, Ibrahim Dasuki Jalingo and Deputy National Secretary, Ohi Ngofa.

The duo of Dr. Muniz Banire and Hajiya Tijjani Aliyu, National Legal Adviser and National Women Leader, respectively, were absent.

The party officials spoke extensively on the contentious delegate lists and resolved that “in order to establish the truth regarding the delegates list and, in line with the suggestion made by the National Vice Chairman (South South), the meeting resolved that the Izunaso should circulate the two contentious delegates list to the NWC members the following day.

“This will enable members ascertain the level of disparity and whether it has the tendency  of substantially affecting the outcome of the primary…”

The members anchored their position on the ground that “the Appeal Committee failed to invite the National Secretariat  to authenticate or otherwise disclaim the source of the disputed  delegates list as the custodian.

“The Appeal Committee failed to invite the Chairman or members of the Ondo State governorship primary election committee to clarify on the allegation of manipulation on the accreditation process. It rather chose to rely on unsubstantiated evidence (s) of probably procured witnesses as basis for the nullification of the primary.

“The NWC observed a serious contradiction in the Appeal Committee’s report in respect of the number of the accredited delegates. Whereas the primary Election Committee’s report indicated 2,774 delegates were accredited , the appeal committee’s report erroneously recorded it as those who voted in the election, thereby creating false impression of over voting in the exercise.

An official of the party who declined to be named said the decision to endorse Akeredolu as the party’s candidate was not foisted on the party by the leadership.

He submitted that the resolution of the NWC and the advice of the National Legal Adviser was instrumental to the decision taken by the leadership.

Part of Banire’s recommendation indicated that, “the test used by the Appeal Committee is never used in the determination of issues. As stated by the committee, there were also positive reports that equally believed the credible nature of the process endears us to the populace. The reason why such perceptive positions are never applied in this situation leaves much to be desired.

“Finally, the rule of election is that once there is substantial compliance, the election must be upheld. This much the Appeal Committee agreed with but, suddenly, somersaulted for reasons best known to it.

“ The delegates’ list, from my opening submission, is valid and emanated from proper custody. The process of conducting the election was robust but the Appeal Committee relied on other extraneous issues which are spurious.”

APC Crisis Messy As Party Begins Move To EXPEL Tinubu

APC Crisis Messy As Party Begins Move To EXPEL Tinubu

Bola tinubu
The crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC took a new dimension as fresh report according to Punch Newspaper suggest that the embattled national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and some of his political allies  may be expelled if found guilty after investigation bothered on anti-party activities labeled against them.

The Punch Newspaper accounted that the APC may have initiated moves to investigate allegations of anti-party activities against the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and some of the party members believed to be loyal to him.

This is happening as the party appears to be in a dilemma over how to deal with the party leader over suspicion that he is backing the Alliance for Democracy in the forthcoming Ondo State governorship election.

Tinubu is believed to be supporting Chief Olusola Oke, one of the governorship aspirants in the party’s primary in Ondo State who had recently defected to the Alliance for Democracy, along with his supporters.

The considered the purported support for an opposition party by a leader of the APC ahead of the coming Ondo governorship election as constituting anti-party infractions that should not be overlooked, impeccable sources within the APC confided in our source

Tinubu’s godson, Dr. Olusegun Abraham, was edged out in the primary won by Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), who is believed to have enjoyed the backing of the party’s national leadership.

The delegates’ list for the Ondo APC primary was said to have been doctored to favour Akeredolu and this allegedly infuriated Tinubu.

As such, Tinubu asked the APC’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, to resign over his alleged role in the primary in which his (Tinubu’s) candidate had come second.

In the statement in which the party’s national leader made the allegations, Tinubu said Odigie-Oyegun had “dealt a heavy blow to the very party he professes to lead” by derailing from the path of progressives.

The post-primary election crisis of the Ondo APC took a different dimension when Oke defected to AD in a move believed to have been instructed by Tinubu.

There are proofs that Tinubu was backing the AD governorship candidate. They added that the party leader had released funds for Oke’s campaign, APC source confirmed to our source

The Ondo State chapter of the APC confirmed that some members of the party were under investigation over alleged anti-party activities.

The Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Abayomi Adesanya, said specifically that some members loyal to Tinubu had been found to be involved in some activities against the party in the recent time.

Abayomi, who said expulsion from the party was the penalty for any anti-party activity, said the national body of the party would investigate and later come out with an action against any national leader involved in such activity.

He said, “We have yet to confirm if our National Leader is involved in anti-party activities but we will investigate; we are very sure that some of his boys here are involved in anti-party activities but when it is time, appropriate action would be meted to them.”

“Anti-party action is a serious offence in any political party and in our own party, total expulsion is the penalty.”

But a chieftain of the APC loyal to Tinubu, Mr. Bola Ilori,  said APC members who supported Rotimi Akeredolu’s emergence as the party’s candidate were those involved in anti-party activities.

Ilori, who is a loyalist to Dr. Segun Abraham, alleged that the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, was also involved in anti-party activities by allegedly using veto power to over-rule the recommendation of the Electoral Appeal Committee and submitted Akeredolu’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He said, “ Whoever is promoting or supporting Akeredolu to be the candidate of the APC is involving in anti-party (activities) because the NWC voted five to six not to submit the name of Akeredolu, and the National Chairman went ahead and submitted his (Akeredolu) name. So, what they have done is anti-party (action) itself.

“What they have done is anti-party (action) that has never happened in the history of the party.”

Saturday PUNCH also learnt that the APC national leadership is aware of Tinubu’s alleged anti-party moves in Ondo State but is very reluctant to sanction him.

This, according to party sources, has to do with Tinubu’s influence in the party and his tight grip on the party structure in the South-West.

Meanwhile, APC members, who spoke to Saturday PUNCH, have explained that the ruling party’s constitution prescribes sanctions against anyone found to be engaged in anti-party misdemeanor.

The Publicity Secretary of the Kwara State chapter of the APC, Mr. Sulaiman Buhari, said “A panel will be set up to investigate the matter. After the investigation, it is the panel that will recommend the punishment but it is stipulated in the Constitution. The person can be suspended or expelled from the party, given the (nature of the) offence. The situation also applies to chieftains of the party.”

The Cross River State Chairman of the APC, Mr. John Ochala, simply said, “Suspension,” when asked the specific sanction the party had reserved for those engaged in anti-party activities.

In Rivers State, the Publicity Sectary of the APC, Mr. Chris Finebone, said any political party that is worth its salt must sanction any action by any member that is detrimental to it.

The Edo State chairman of the APC, Anselm Ojezua, said, “It (anti-party activity) can range from suspension to expulsion, depending on the circumstances of the case. There are no party chieftains; in the APC, everybody is a member.”

THE FACTS – 2016 ONDO STATE APC GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION PRIMARIES

The outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2016 Ondo State Governorship Primary Election has led to disagreements among some Party stakeholders in the state and at the national level. The ripples from the controversy over the election have unfortunately dragged our great party on to the front pages of newspapers for the wrong reasons.

Recently, the media office of Bola Tinubu falsely and recklessly accused me of corruption, rigging the outcome of the 2016 Ondo State APC governorship election primaries and overruling the Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) “vote” on the 2016 Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee Report.

In view of the misinformation and false reports that have been fed to the media and that have pervaded the public space, there is need to set the records straight. Below are factual responses to the salient points and allegations made by the media office of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in its statement.

ALLEGATION

The media office of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in its statement alleged that I overruled the NWC’s vote of “six against five” in favour of cancelling the primary election results and conducting another primary.

FACT

According to the minutes of the 18th emergency meeting of the APC NWC held from Monday 19th September 2016 to Thursday 22nd September, 2016 at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, there was absolutely no meeting which I chaired that voted in the manner alleged. Clearly, the report on which the media office of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu acted was a figment of someone’s wild imagination.

On Thursday 22nd September, 2016 being the final day for submission of candidate by Political Parties, the NWC discussed the possibility of voting having finished deliberation on the2016 Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee Report because members in support of cancelling the Primary results were still strident in their position.

A member of the NWC however drew the attention of the meeting to its previous decision in which the report of the Primary Election Committee was adopted while the Appeal Committee was set aside. The implication of this decision he reasoned was that a decision to submit the name of the winner of the primary election was already taken unless the NWC will now wish to reconsider its earlier decision.

I agreed with this and ruled that the previous decision of the NWC be upheld.

ALLEGATION

The media office of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in its statement also alleged that the names of “over 150 valid delegates were excised to make room for an equal number of impostors”.

FACT

The Ondo State approved delegates list was compiled in strict compliance with the Party’s constitution. Only qualified delegates were included in the list. Moreso, none of the aspirants or the Appeal Committee has submitted to NWC a list of delegates who were not qualified to be included in the delegates list but were listed as delegates or presumed qualified delegates who were not included in the delegates list used for the Primary.

ALLEGATION

The media office of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in its statement alleged that I used a “prayer interlude” which I initiated to “secretly excuse” myself from the NWC meeting to submit the name of Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the candidate of the Party.

FACT

The allegation is high fiction and an insult to the intelligence and sensibility of the respected NWC members present at the meeting. We do not and have never engaged in prayer interludes/sessions outside the usual opening and closing prayers. The prayer that is being referred to must be the closing prayer for the meeting.

ALLEGATION

The media office of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in its statement accused me of bribery and corruption over the outcome of the Ondo State APC governorship election primaries.“Oyegun has dealt a heavy blow to the very party he professes to lead. It is an awful parent who suffocates his own child for the sake of a few naira.” The statement issued by media office of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu read.

FACT

This reckless and baseless corruption allegation levelled against me is unfortunate and an insult to my person and my hard-earned reputation which I have strongly maintained. Nobody has the kind of money that can buy my conscience or make me do injury to an innocent man. In all the primaries conducted under my watch as National Chairman, I have strived to ensure a free, fair, transparent and credible process. The 2016 Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election was not an exception. There must be internal democracy in the Party and our constitution must be respected by all.

APPEAL COMMITTEE REPORT

The Party’s NWC decision to reject the 2016 Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee Report was taken on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 in executive session after careful and exhaustive deliberations. The minutes and rejection were confirmed by the NWC on Thursday, September 22, 2016.

The NWC in its four-point resolution rejected the Appeal Committee’s recommendation on the grounds that the report was fundamentally and fatally flawed. The NWC observed that the Appeal Committee contradicted itself when it admitted in its report, “In making the above recommendations one is not unmindful of the fact that there may have been substantial compliance in the conduct of the exercise.” but still proceeded to recommend the nullification of the Primary election.

The NWC in its four-point resolution faulted the failure of the Appeal Committee to invite the National Secretariat as the custodian, to authenticate or otherwise the source of the disputed delegates list. Also, the Appeal Committee did not invite the Chairman or members of the Ondo State Governorship Primary Election Committee to clarify issues relating to the allegation of manipulation of the accreditation process. The Appeal Committee rather relied totally on unsubstantiated evidence(s) in the petitions it received to recommend the nullification of the Primary. This is against the principle of natural justice and fair hearing.

The NWC equally observed a serious contradiction in the Appeal Committee’s report in respect of the number of the accredited delegates. Whereas the Primary Election Committee’s report indicated that 2,774 delegates were accredited, the Appeal Committee’s report erroneously recorded it as those who voted in the election, thereby acting under the false impression that there was over voting in the exercise. The actual total number of votes cast was 2,754, as clearly recorded in the Primary Election Committee’s report.

The issue of fresh primaries did not arise as NWC had already rejected the Appeal Committee’s report in view of the stated flaws and upheld the election. In any case, any fresh primary was already time barred. By the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), all governorship primaries and issues related ended on September 19, 2016.

Also, voting on the issue became unnecessary and never took place in view of the NWC’s rejection of the Appeal Committee’s report.

The foregoing are facts backed by the minutes approved by all NWC members that attended the meetings held in respect of 2016 Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee Report.

It needs to be stated categorically that the NWC is confident that the Chairman of the Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Abubakar Badaru, Executive Governor of Jigawa State conducted a credible and exemplary exercise. We indeed commend the Governor and his team for their transparency and the free and fair manner the primaries was conducted.

Going forward, I appeal very passionately to leaders and members of the Party at all levels to explore internal dispute resolution mechanisms in addressing their perceived grievances instead of resorting to the media to vent their spleen.

There are enormous challenges in delivering on the Party’s 2015 election promises to Nigerians. On the immediate horizon is the task of winning the governorship election in Ondo state. We cannot afford to be distracted by the present contentions.

I wish to assure Party members that despite the media attention that has been generated by the disagreements in the aftermath of the 2016 Ondo State Governorship Primary Election, the Party is focused on the task ahead and we urge our Party leaders and teeming supporters to also remain calm. The Party has already commenced wide consultations with stakeholders with a view to resolving the political differences that still exist. Hurling brickbats cannot help the cause of the party in any way.

The APC national leadership remains united and solidly committed to the task of winning the Ondo state governorship election to save the people of the state from the misrule of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

APC Crisis: Tinubu In Secret Talks With Yoruba Leaders To Rejig AD As Buhari 'Queues Behind Oyegun

Tinubu returns to alliance for democracy ad
The embattled national leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Armed Tinubu may have retraced his step and return to the Alliance for Democracy, AD, a former party that he was made the governor of Lagos State 18 years ago

Report monitored via Daily Sun Newspaper suggests that, the moribund Alliance for Democracy (AD) may be the political haven for associates of embattled National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2019 general elections

It was gathered that that except President Muhammadu Buhari and well-meaning stakeholders in the ruling party take concrete and genuine steps to placate the former Lagos State governor, his allies may ditch the party for the AD.

A party source revealed that Tinubu’s camp may have opened discussions with stakeholders of the platform that brought him to power in 1999.

The party source noted that the forthcoming Ondo State governorship election would be used to test the waters.

The rejection of the  recommendations of the three-member Election Appeal Committee chaired by Mrs. Helen Bendega, which called for cancellation of the poll that produced Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), and the submission of his name to INEC by the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun was the cause of the cold war betweenTinubu and the latter.

Tinubu, while demanding for the resignation of Odigie-Oyegun, accused the former Edo State governor of treating with disdain the joint petition written by Chiefs Oke, Olusegun Abraham and Senator Ajayi Borrofice rejecting the outcome of the primary that produced Akeredolu.

While the national leader backed Abraham for the ticket, forces in the Presidency supported Akeredolu, who was president of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA).

Daily Sun gathered that Tinubu’s associates were taken aback that while President Buhari invited the National Chairman of the party to the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, he has not made any move to open discussion with Tinubu.

It also learnt that the APC leader’s allies may have initiated a deal aimed at reconciling with certain aggrieved leaders of the Yoruba socio-cultural group,  Afenifere, who were ditched during the power game to insulate the AD from  the  Afenifere.

In the vanguard of those who insisted that  Afenifere and AD should not be mutually inclusive were Tinubu, Chief Olusegun Osoba, the late Lam Adesina, Chief Bisi Akande, former governors of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Osun states respectively. While the late Ondo State governor, Adebayo Adefarati backed the leadership of  Afenifere, the former Ekiti State governor, Niyi Adebayo sat on the fence.

Among those who fell out with Tinubu and other AD governors  in league with him, were the Afenifere leader, Chief Abraham Adesanya (now late), Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Olaniwun Ajayi and Reuben Fasoranti. The struggle to separate  Afenifere from the control of the political party also culminated in the polarisation of the Yoruba group into two factions with Chief Fasanmi and Fasoranti as factional chairmen.

Speaking with Daily Sun on phone, Tinubu’s media aide, Tunde Rahman, however, refused to comment. He said: “Who are those making the insinuations? Let them justify what they are saying. I don’t want to react to that!”

But in his reaction, a member of the  Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, neither denied nor confirmed the reconciliation moves. He told Daily Sun that there was urgent need for the Yoruba to speak with one voice, noting noted that it was the desire of Afenifere as a group.

“I am not yet in the picture; what we know is that we are for peace and unity in Yorubalnd. The details of such talks,  I can’t tell you, but Afenifere’s desire is for strong realignment in Yorubaland”.

Resignation Not Done On Pages Of Newspaper - Oyegun 'Blasts' As Tinubu's Men In Mass Exodus To AD In Ondo

APC crisis Tinubu and oyegun
The lingering crisis between the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and estranged friend, the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu deepened yesterday when the former replied the later saying a call for his resignation is not a child's play that should be done on the pages of newspaper.

This is even as some youths, have, however,  protested Tinubu’s vituperative call on Odigie Oyegun to resign from office.

Oyegun made his position known yesterday after a secret meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Aso Rock.

The crisis in the party blew open recently when Tinubu, in a statement, called for the resignation of the party chairman.

The bone of contention was the party’s governorship primary in Ondo State, which produced Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu as the candidate for the November 26 governorship election in the state.

Tinubu, a former Lagos State governor, had faulted Odigie-Oyegun for overruling the decision of the party’s National Working Committee that upheld the decision of the Appeal Committee which recommended the cancellation of the primary.

The party chairman, who had said he was engrossed in the preparations for the Edo State governorship poll, which was won by APC’s Godwin Obaseki, however, refused to take issue with Tinubu, who he said he held in high esteem.

Odigie-Oyegun lost his ward to the Peoples Democratic Party in the governorship election, held on September 28, 2016.

On Tuesday, however, Odigie-Oyegun took his grievance to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The meeting between the President and the party’s national chairman, who is also a former governor of Edo State, was held behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Speaking with State House correspondents at the end of the meeting with Buhari, Odigie-Oyegun said Tinubu was too harsh on him.

He, however, said the situation between the two of them could not be described as a rift but a difference of opinion.

“There is no rift with Asiwaju. We have difference of opinions, difference of perception and I think that is normal. Yes, I agree that the nature of the (Tinubu’s) statement was a bit harsh,” he said.

When asked if he would resign as demanded by Tinubu, the ex-governor said, “The methods of getting rid of a national chairman, if that is what I will call it, are spelt out in the constitution. They don’t take place on the pages of newspapers.”

He said it was proper for all arms of the party, including the National Executive Council, to meet and the meeting would hold at the appropriate time.

Odigie-Oyegun denied being the brains behind the youths who protested against Tinubu at the party’s national headquarters earlier in the day.

He, however, promised to investigate the matter.

“God forbid (that I sponsor the protest)! Anybody who knows me knows that it is not my style. I am equally shocked and I am going to look into it and find out why and who is behind it.

“Do people know how far back our association goes? Do they know that we were in the trenches together in the NADECO days? Why can’t people, who have mutual respect for each other, have different opinions?

“All we had was difference of opinions. Yes, it was expressed a bit harshly but that doesn’t remove the basic fact that we have worked together for a very long time,” he added.

Odigie-Oyegun said all that transpired in the party’s primary election in Ondo State were contained in the report of the chairman of the primary committee.

When asked whether the party would consider a change of mind since the result is generating controversy, the party chairman said, “It is only INEC (the Independent national Electoral Commission) that can make a U-turn on the Ondo primary.”

Odigie-Oyegun described the recent governorship election in Edo State won by the party’s candidate, Godwin Obaseki, as a referendum on the performance of Governor Adam Oshiomhole and on the quality of the party’s candidate.

Earlier on Tuesday, a group of youths stormed the APC National Secretariat to protest what they claim was Tinubu’s overbearing influence on party’s affairs.

Ilori, who spoke on TVC political programme said ”I don’t know APC before; it was Asiwaju Tinubu that said we should move to APC and we did.

According to Ilori, Tinubu’s decision was taken following the way he was treated on the party’s governorship primary election which was upheld on September 3, by the national executive committee members, led by Chief John Oyegun.

It will be recalled that Tinubu had been reportedly supporting one of the aspirants, Mr. Segun Abraham to become the party’s candidate, ahead of the November 26, gubernatorial election in Ondo State.

Speaking with the State House correspondents after meeting with the President on Tusday, Chief Oyegun said there is no rift with the party National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Oyegun also said he will not resign as APC chairman based on newspapers’ reports.

Tinubu had called for Oyegun’s resignation over his role in the emergence of Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu as the party’s candidate in the November 26 governorship election in Ondo State.

The ex- Lagos State governor had claimed that Oyegun over-ruled a panel set up by the party which recommended the conduct of a fresh primary.

He therefore called for the party chairman’s removal in order to allow internal democracy to return to the party.

But Oyegun said on Tuesday that there are procedures to be followed for such resignation to happen.

Although he agreed that there are disagreements on the Ondo primary, he denied any rift with Tinubu.

He said: “There is no rift with Asiwaju we have difference of opinion, difference of perception and I think that is normal. Yes, I agree that the nature of the statement was a bit harsh.

ATIKU AND OYEGUN

Besides, Tinubu also accused him of subverting the decision of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) when he submitted the name of Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the candidate.

Regardless, before the September 28 governorship poll in Edo State, Odigie-Oyegun told newsmen he would meet with President Muhammad Buhari on the matter.

Our source further gathered that five days after the poll, Odigie-Oyegun is yet to meet with the President. A source in the NWC said, “the Presidency has scheduled the national chairman to meet with the President. There was definitely no meeting last week. We don’t know when the meeting between our chairman and the President will take place. We are hoping it will be this week.”

However, Odigie-Oyegun reportedly took his case to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who is a chieftain of the party at the weekend.

Another source told Daily Sun that he “met with Atiku and presented his case. Remember that he said last week that most of what Tinubu wrote in his letter were not true. He told Atiku that everything concerning the Ondo primary was collective and that, it was not true that the NWC didn’t have input into submission of Akeredolu’s name as the party’s candidate…”

This is even as the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Timi Frank, wrote an open letter to the President, urging him to investigate Tinubu’s allegations if the ruling party must move forward.

In a letter addressed to President Buhari yesterday, Frank said the national chairman lacked the capacity to manage the party, noting that the former Edo State governor has not been able to resolve any crisis in the party since APC came to power.

He said: “Tinubu had in his letter published last Monday and titled, “Oyegun’s Ondo fraud: The violation of democracy in the APC,” accused the embattled national chairman of unilaterally rejecting the report and recommendations of the three-member Election Appeal Committee chaired by Mrs. Helen Bendega, which called for the cancellation of the poll that produced Rotimi Akeredolu, (SAN) and the submission of his name to INEC by Odigie-Oyegun.
