President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday met behind closed doors with some ex- leaders of the National Assembly.
Two separate meetings were said to have been held at the President’s office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Those spotted at the Villa included former Senate Presidents, David Mark and Ken Nnamani, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Bello Masari and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Ita Enang.
While Nnamani and Masari arrived the same time, Mark, who is still a current Senator approached the President’s office together with Enang about one hour later.

But it was not clear whether Mark and Enang actually met Nnamani and Masari at the President’s office as Nnamani and Masari were said to have been taken out from the President’s office’s entrance in a vehicle.
Nnamani and Masari, who had earlier trekked by the Council Chamber in the clear view of journalists when going to the President’s office, have not been spotted to go out through the same way they came in at the time of filing this report.
The agenda of the meetings was unknown but may not be unconnected with the soured relationship between the Presidency and the current Senate.
Mark, who came out after about thirty minutes in the President’s office, did not speak to journalists as he walked through the corridor with one protocol officer.
His visit to the Villa was the first since he stepped down as the Senate President in the last dispensation.
No official statement, at the time of this report, has been issued concerning the meetings.
The current Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who is facing Senate Standing rules forgery trial along with is deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, had recently declared that there was cabal in the Presidency.
BREAKING: Under Pressure CBN Cancels Bank Rates On Foreign Exchange As Naira Falls The More
News Proof 18.7.16 No comments Edit Post
ThisDay News - Following the pressure mounted by the financial markets and analysts on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to allow the naira to be truly market determined so as to attract offshore investors who have continued to remain on the sidelines, the CBN has finally freed the nation’s currency so that its rate on the Nigeria Interbank Foreign Exchange (NIFEX) will be determined by the interplay of demand and supply.
The central bank will equally fund the one-month forward contracts of $697 million this week, meaning that authorised dealers that bid on behalf of their customers for the contracts last month would be making a kill of almost N10 to the dollar, given that the naira fell to N292.25 on the interbank market last Friday.
How I Increase My Blokos Size & Stopped Premature Ejaculation Issues That Scattered My Relationship For 2years.. Click HERE for Details
On the first day of trading under the revised rules for the NIFEX on June 20, the CBN had intervened in the market through the Special Secondary Market Intervention Sales (SMIS) to clear the backlog of $4.02 billion pent-up demand for FX.
According to the CBN, it sold $532 million on the spot market and $3.487 billion in the forwards market.
A breakdown of the $3.487 billion forward sales by the central bank showed that $697 million was for one month (1M), $1.22 billion for two months (2M) and $1.57 billion for three months (3M).
On the full liberalisation of the interbank FX market, THISDAY learnt that pressure was brought to bear on the CBN when it was discovered that since the launch of the revised rules for the NIFEX market last month, the CBN through its interventions had pegged the naira within the range of N281-N284/$.
A banking industry source informed THISDAY that the central bank retained the peg despite announcing that it had floated the naira because of the continuing opposition by President Muhammadu Buhari to the devaluation of the Nigerian currency.
He said: “President Buhari only sanctioned the introduction of the flexible exchange rate regime when he saw the damning data released by the NBS showing that the Nigerian economy had contracted in the first quarter of this year and had effectively slumped into a recession.
“He was a very reluctant convert, so when he expressed his opposition again after the market had been partially liberalised, the CBN slammed the breaks on the naira and started pegging it again.
“But pressure was mounted on the central bank to allow the naira find its true level because offshore investors had taken note and refused to bring their money, thus exacerbating the FX scarcity in the market which the flexible exchange rate regime was meant to resolve.”
Signalling the move towards a proper free float of the naira, THISDAY learnt from treasurers of some of the commercial banks that the central bank held a conference call on Friday with authorised dealers in the FX market, during which the information was communicated to them.
Also, just as the conference call was taking place, the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, was at a lunchtime meeting with investors in London, where he was said to have told foreign investors that the flexible exchange rate would now operate fully.
A source, who was at the London meeting, said what they gathered from the meeting with Emefiele was that banks were now free to set pricing at a level where supply would match demand for forex.
The central bank anticipates that this new policy would encourage those that have forex to bring it and sell, now that they can get more naira.
As a result of the development, banks made higher bids for forex on Friday, thereby leading to a depreciation of the naira.
Indeed, the naira depreciated against the United States dollar across all FX market segments on Friday. On the interbank market, it fell to an all-time low of N292.25 to a dollar and depreciated at the Bureau De Change and parallel market segments by 2.9 per cent and 3.13 per cent to N355/$1 and N365/$1 respectively, as demand at the interbank market spilled over to the alternative market segments.
Speaking in a phone interview with THISDAY, the Chief Executive Officer, Financial Derivatives Company Limited, Mr. Bismarck Rewane, welcomed the decision to finally allow market forces to determine the value of the naira, saying: “It is about time they did the real thing.”
“Every other thing they were doing was to a large extent a rigged system under the flexible exchange rate system. That did not allow the naira to find its true equilibrium.
“You intervene in the market and naira finds its price. Then you intervene to influence that price. You don’t set a price by starting an intervention before the price emerges. By doing that, you will not know whether you are supporting the currency at an unsustainable rate.
“To me, I am relieved that finally we have gotten to this point. I understand it was done out of pressure from the international community. I learnt international investors said they were not going to do anything with us until we show some seriousness.
“So I think it is the most welcome development since this forex regime started. Now, you are going to see the parallel market depreciate initially, and then appreciate significantly and the difference between the parallel and interbank market would narrow.
“This will also solve the problem of dollar liquidity in the market because a lot of people would bring dollars in officially. Before, people were taking it to the parallel market. So there would be much more supply.”
A currency analyst at Ecobank Nigeria, Mr. Kunle Ezun also predicted that the naira might depreciate to about N350 to a dollar on the interbank market this week, just as he aligned with Rewane, saying: “That is what they should have done when they introduced the flexible exchange rate policy.”
“The central bank ought to have allowed the naira to find its level, and then it would appreciate gradually to about N280 to a dollar. Foreign investors were not comfortable with the N280 to a dollar, considering what the value of the naira is on the parallel market.
“With this now, the CBN would still be intervening as a player in the market, but not as frequently as we have seen since the new guidelines for NIFEX were introduced,” he added.
According to Ezun, if the naira is allowed to trade freely and reflect its true value, foreign investors would come in droves.
He added: “If we say we are operating a flexible exchange rate regime, we should allow the market to trade to reflect the level of liquidity in the market, which is between N300/$1 and $350/$1, then over time, with inflows from foreign investors, the naira may appreciate to about $250 to a dollar. But it shouldn’t be a controlled rate.
“A lot of people believed that the CBN was controlling the market at an interbank rate of around N280 to a dollar. So with what the CBN has done, there is no restriction on the 50 kobo spread between the bid and offer again. This means banks can trade based on what they have.”
The Emir of Kano and former CBN Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, last week said the flexible exchange rate regime was not being fully implemented, just as he warned that targeting a pegged rate would not resolve the current FX problem.
He urged the central bank to allow the forces of demand and supply to determine the true value of the nation’s currency, in line with the flexible exchange rate policy.
“There is a fantastic document by the central bank on the flexible exchange rate. We need to implement that document properly. So long as the implementation is not total and faithful to the document itself, you would have residual market risks.
“You have to let the market decide where the naira is going to be to start with, before inflows come in and then when the inflows are in, you have an appreciation of the naira.
“So you have to live with a devaluation to N300/$1 plus and then it will firm up to N270/$ or N280/$1 or whatever. But so long as you target a rate of N280/$1, you are just moving the peg,” he had argued.
He, however, pointed out that with the new forex policy, the central bank was able to reduce the arbitrary opportunities in the market as well as improving its liquidity.
Emefiele flew to Britain and the United States on a road show last Friday to try to lure investors. Investors had welcomed the move but many said they were steering clear until the economy shows signs of concrete recovery.
Doyin Okupe Implicates Jonathan In Fresh Revelation of the $1.2b Arms Fraud Probe
News Proof 18.7.16 No comments Edit Post
Former presidential aide Dr. Doyin Okupe, yesterday admitted collecting more than N100million from the Office of National Security Adviser(ONSA) when Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.) was in charge.
The former Senior Special Assitant (Media and Publicity) to former President Goodluck Jonathan said part of the cash was a N10milion vote to furnish his rented apartment.
The ex-President approved the release of the funds from his security vote, Okupe said.
He also faulted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) for making his heart-related challenge, called sinus bradycadia, public.
Okupe and his companies are under probe for allegedly receiving N162million illicit payments to him and his companies by Dasuki and Chanchaga Local Government Area in Niger State.

In a reaction to his intermittent grilling by the EFCC, Okupe, who opened up on his Facebook page, said he used the funds allocated to him to run his office between 2012 and 2015.
He was hired in 2012 by Jonathan for propaganda purpose against the opposition, which was critical of the past administration.
Giving the details of how he collected money from the ex-NSA, he also confessed that his company secured contract from Chanchaga Local Government Area in Niger State.
He said: “The initial N50m was approved by the President to be paid to me from his security vote. N10m was to furnish my rented living apartment and another N10m for my office. The balance N30m was approved as take-off grant.
“The N10m I received from the ONSA monthly was to run my office, pay salaries of staff, including overheads, pay expenses for our numerous press conferences, pay for publications in newspapers, magazines, local and foreign, television programmes, bulletins, and media consultants who assist and facilitate our work. I had about 23 staff, 11 were graduates out of which five were masters degrees holders.
“ The second N50m was approved again by Mr. President when I reported to him that the monthly allowance had been cut from N10m to N5m and that I was no longer in position to keep running a one hour NTA network programme called INSIGHT which was aired 9-10am every Friday.
“We paid NTA about N1.2m monthly for airtime. Two presenters were paid N600, 000 monthly.
The lead presenter on Insight earned N400,000 and the second presenter earned N200,000. We paid for tapes and editing per programme. Besides, we also pay honorarium for guests either directly or in form of hotel bills for those outside Abuja or transportation.
“This cost averagely N500,000 weekly or about N2m monthly. All in all, we spend about N4m monthly on the programme. Mr. President promised to help with the expenses. About a few months later when we had incurred some debts the NSA sent me this N50m which was to cover the cost of the program for 12 months.
“I am not a thief. I have only two houses in Lagos and in my hometown. The monthly allowance was not my salary. It was meant to be used to run the office. 40% went on salaries. Salary sheets with names and offices of employees were submitted to EFCC.
I was paid a salary of N853,000 per month through the office of the SGF.”
On the N76.5m contracts awarded to his firm, Romix Soilfix, by Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State, Okupe said the firm was “one of the over 20 construction companies who were duly awarded contracts for rural roads some five years ago by the Niger State Government”.
He said the jobs were delayed because of irregular payment to contractors by the council.
Okupe added: “The job is still ongoing. The relationship of this to my service as senior special assistant to President is still not clear.”
Okupe faulted the EFCC for allegedly making his heart-related challenge, called sinus bradycadia, public.
He said: “I was born with sinus bradycadia, a non-disease based slowness of the heart. It precluded me from vigorous exercise from childhood but I have, by God’s grace, been able to live a normal and active life.
“With age, the slowness grew worse and life threatening. I sought medical help and went through a procedure at the Arrhythmia Cardiac Research Centre in Atlanta, where this defect was corrected. It was just a year ago and I am still under satellite monitor from the USA. This is what I revealed to the EFCC and they made it a public issue.”

Dino Melaye: The Thug With A Presidential Dream, By Emmanuel Uchenna Ugwu
News Proof 17.7.16 No comments Edit Post
No one who is conversant with the biography and career of ‘Senator’ Dino Melaye would be shocked by corroborated reports that he threatened to beat up and ‘’impregnate’’ a female colleague during a closed door session of the Nigerian senate on Tuesday. The act, outrageous as it sounds, is in character. Dino has always been the quintessence of a street thug. His personal and public lives show a symmetrical penchant for hysterics, bullying and violence.
Dino truncated his two attempts at marriage with his own hands. He battered his wives beyond the ‘normal threshold’ of a black eye. He inflicted life-threatening injuries on them with such meanness and frequency that the victims cottoned up to the fact that this husband meant to perpetrate murder in installments.
Only a couple of months, Dino threatened to assault Senator James Manager (PDP, Delta South) in an executive session of the senate. Manager’s heinous crime was that he advised that the Senate risks tarnishing its image as an institution if it does not extricate itself from ‘Senate President’ Bukola Saraki’s trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Dino charged at the older Manager and moved to attack him.

In his earlier incarnation as a member of the National Assembly, Dino fought on the floor of the House of Representatives. The majority of the legislators were angling for the resignation of the scandal-tainted Speaker Patricia Etteh. Dino tried to save her by starting a fight. He was beaten and stripped half-naked. He walked out in rags.
When Dino hectored Senator Oluremi Tinubu and hurtled towards her so that his alarmed colleagues rushed to save him from himself –by arresting, pacifying and taming him –it was the force of habit at work. He had been beating up women by rote. But since his two wives walked out, he had been suffering the deprivation of existing without a woman to abuse.
Dino’s fifteen minutes of madness boils down to forced withdrawal symptoms. He had not had the fix of woman-beating for a long time. He desperately wanted to be a ‘wife beater’ again. Even if he had to do it to another man’s wife. Even if he had to do it in the chambers of the senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
His threat to beat up and ‘’impregnate’’ Mrs Tinubu in one breath is not a thoughtless indulgence in non sequitur or mixed metaphors. It was an externalization of a perverse sexual orientation that seeks pleasure in the harm and pains of a woman. It was the coming out of a closet revelation of a sadomasochist!
A normal man cannot conceive of the intimate act of ‘’impregnating’’ a woman as an improvement on the horror of beating her. It takes a sick, demented man to scream at the top of his voice that he would beat up a woman and escalate her woes by mounting her. It takes a Dino Melaye to lech after a married woman and to expressly ventilate it in a language that pretends to be anything but a promise to rape!
Dino is a misogynist. He doesn’t believe in the personhood of the female human. He was the senator who derailed a reasonable debate on the necessity of promoting the patronage of made in Nigeria goods by educating the senate that there is such a thing as ‘’made in Nigeria women.’’
Dino was the senator who stood up during a debate on a bill prohibiting sexual harassment of students by lecturers in tertiary institutions and suggested that sexual predation happens when ladies wearing ‘’seductive and provocative dresses’’ ‘’enter the offices of lecturers who have ‘’no anointing to resist sexual temptation.’’
Dino threatened to beat up and ‘’impregnate’’ Mrs. Tinubu in order to shame her for her gender. To remind her that whoever she was, he was the superior sex. She was a mere woman, easy to be conquered, prostrated and violated right into her most private space.
The threat to ‘’impregnate’’ by force escaped from a phalocentric mindset that regards sex as a weapon of war. In Dino's world, sex is the ultimate victory lap. Sex is what you do to a woman to trivialize her femininity. It’s what you do to impose on her an acute sense of her inferiority.
The story says that when the echo of his voice returned to him, he walked back the impracticable threat in a manner only Dino could. He said he wouldn’t bother to fulfill the threat on Mrs. Tinubu. The former first lady of Lagos State was a dry fish. He would rather do it to ‘’a more robust and beautiful woman like Stella Oduah.’’
That’s the rarity of senator of a country declaring his sexual fantasy and grading his female colleagues based on how close their physique came to matching his specifications of an ideal bedmate!
After news of his shameful action went viral and he began trending as a butt of jokes on Nigerian Twitter, Dino tweeted a denunciation of SaharaReporters, the medium that broke the news. He would later follow that up with a press conference; a self-massage session before the media.
Dino told his auditors he was “a responsible Nigerian.'' ''A role model.’’ '' A champion of anti-corruption.'' The report that he threatened to assault and ‘’impregnate’’ the lady senator was a lie. He had never and would never conduct himself in a manner unworthy of the people of his constituency and their culture.
In no time who the liar was became clear. Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s husband, Bola Tinubu confirmed the reports. Dino had truly made the threat to beat up and to ‘’impregnate.’’ He had even boasted that he had immunity. He would commit the abuse and ‘’nothing will happen.’’
Mr. Tinubu called Dino a ‘’disgrace’’ to the Nigerian senate. Okun Parapo, the socio-cultural group of the Yoruba-speaking people of Kogi state, his own extended family, disowned him, calling him a son of reproach.
It goes without saying that Dino cannot be properly characterized. He cannot be characterized because he has no character. Whatever you say of his vulgarism, his barbarism and his love for products of civilization and loath for the power of civilization proves an understatement of the baseness of the man. When you venture to frame his uncouthness, your resultant point-by-point takedown of the figure doesn’t do due justice. It, instead, reads like a stunted compliment.
Why is it so?
Dino vanquishes you in the outer court of understanding. A man’s idiosyncrasies have to make relatable sense to you before you can be in a position to assay him and choose words that meaningfully approximate to his quality. He doesn’t lend himself to comprehensibility.
He is a compulsive buffoon that keeps evolving in complexity. A fool that keeps waxing stupid in sophistication.
The problem with Dino, though, is not that he is a fool. The problem with Dino is that he is a fool that loves to perform in the spotlight. He is an erratic fool that goes out of his way to impress you. He is the fool that keeps pushing the boundaries of idiocy. He is the fool that demolishes impossibilities. He is the fool’s fool!
After a disastrous time in the lower house and his punitive banishment to political wilderness by his constituents, you would have thought that when next he appears on the national stage, he would be a different person from the avatar of nuisance you used to know. He would have rehabilitated himself in private. Or the passage of years would have mellowed him.
But Dino hasn’t changed for the better. He is still the star actor of shame. He has even become a more audacious miscreant. A narcissistic insurgent that makes an exhibition of his own nakedness.
Dino is not the only devious person in the Nigerian senate. The Nigerian senate is a menagerie of pedophiles, drug barons and thieves. These crooks generally blend in the woodwork. They keep a low profile and take care not do further damage to their name.
Dino’s distinction is that he has as much appetite for scandals as he relishes villainy. He loves to be the issue of the day. He loves the mockery, the ridicule, the constant mention of his name.
Dino claims to have earned six degrees. He doesn’t reflect any token of the briefest flirtation with education. In his elements, he comes across as a deranged English-speaking ventriloquist.
Dino recalls that he checked into the university from some motor park where he was a bus conductor. He is still the bus conductor. Nothing in his pattern of behavior suggests that he transitioned.
The way to explain the irony of his abundance of degrees and his abject poverty of decorum is that he probably collected them the same way he collects things that he imagines would enhance his social standing. He bought them like his exotic cars and his 22 of chieftaincy titles!
Dino Melaye recently announced on live TV that he would soon be the president of Nigeria. He repeated ‘the dream’ in his rebuttal of the current story –in the same speech in which he editorialized on a woman’s menopause!
Dino is a vulgarian and a thug. His presidential dream represents a threat to ‘’impregnate’’ Nigeria!

" I think what is appropriate for us(PDP) is to apologize to President Buhari and the APC, then join them to move Nigeria forward"-Femi Fani-Kayode."
"Kindly note that this is FALSE. It is a total fabrication. I never said any such thing privately or publicly and neither have I ever written it or published it anywhere."

The National Executive Council of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, at the meeting held Saturday at its national headquarters in Lagos, announced the sack of its acting national chairman, Vincent Okumagba, for gross misconduct, anti-club activities, abuse of office and flagrant disrespect for constituted authority.
According to a statement released by the acting Public Relations Officer, Balogun Hafeez, the club have known no peace since Okumagba, who was a chairmanship aspirant was appointed to the office when the former chairman late Bashorun, resigned on health grounds.
"He was appointment in acting capacities since a court order stopped the planned elections. Since his appointment to the office, the club have not known peace.
"He introduced thuggery, harassment and indiscriminate arrest of members. Thus bringing indiscipline and intimidation to the club amongst others, "Balogun explained.

He disclosed further that before the latest misdeeds of Okumagba, he once was recommended for a six months suspension from office and all club activities by the disciplinary committee.
" This was a man that was begging and rolling on the floor before the President - General of the club for forgiveness and with promises to henceforth be of good character and conduct.
"Imagine that he went on to unsuccessfully lure some members of the executive to another meeting he called for same day in Kwara state. Promising them cash and foreign trips with the entourage of the Minister of Sports. That was how desperate he was for power, against all agreed principles of the club," Balogun added conclusively.
Preventing The Ikorodu Quagmire In Badagry In Badagry, By Babatunde Ajose

We have the opportunities of experiencing the Multi-Cultural life style of the Aladas, Whemes, Whlas, Thevis, Ga/Ewe, Tolis, Whedas etc among the GUNS. While we have the Oyos, Egbas, Egbados, Aworis, Ife people etc who forms the Yoruba cultural heritage of Badagry, also the Tapas, Ilajes, are well represented in Badagry as indigenes.

Therefore, Badagry is one of the most cultural mixed societies in Nigeria (Thank God for our forbearers’ hospitability spirit). This existing evidence nullifies the wrong and baseless belief that Badagry doesn’t welcome strangers and development, and we must be careful and watchful of the kind of development we want because over the years our communities had suffered neglect due to bitter politics and we are now desperate for development.
As a Sustainable Development Strategist, I have advocated and argued on several occasion that Ikorodu is GROWING and not DEVELOPING and the effect of this wrong growth will be too much to manage at the fullness of time if it is not addressed. I am NOT against new town developments or influx of people to our towns but it must be regulated. The government must be ahead of the growth and the communities must strive to preserve the values and Heritage of the people.
All these values were suspended in Ikorodu and the people are paying direly now all in the name of “we are open to development”. The new Ayangburen tried to restore cultural order by using some of those measures that they once considered, believed and treated as “it is only in Badagry that they still do that” to check the ugly trend but it is too late. The Oba ordered Oro rites but it couldn’t help the situation.
My fellow Badagrians,I understand and share the call for development but we must be careful of growing communities of thugs.
I have a great concern about the GROWTH not DEVELOPMENT of some of our communities like Aradagun, Toll-Gate Area, Age Mowo, Moasfejo, Morobgo, Seme (Oglogbo, Ashipa & Pengbo) and Magbon. In the name of development and expansion, these communities are becoming “ANYTHING GOES”. Our people should be careful by preserving those VALUES that made us BADAGRY. It is a fact that Development and Globalization always comes with its disadvantages but we must also be equal to the task.
The people carrying out Ikorodu massacre today are the same people that the resident sees every day and conscious of their operation in the area but for a long time NOBODY consider them wrong or dangerous until they started killing the residents.
Today, we cannot pretend that the trend of social and security events in these above-mentioned Badagry communities deserves to be looked into. Available crime and security data in Badagry suggests these communities are vulnerable, but you dire not raise it, the elites there who are at more risk will call you names like Locals, Primitive, Fetish, Conservative e.t.c. and their community leaders there call it development.
It is noteworthy and right to commend communities like Ibereko, Badagry Town, Topo, Ilogbo-Eremi and few others; they are on top of the situation. Other communities like Araromi-Ale, Ilado, and Ajara are gradually going out of control (looking at the lawlessness around Madam Grace, 100 Shops Complex thru L.A. School,Iluda, Tande Junction Area) and nobody is seen or heard to be checking this menace all in the name of development.
Development doesn’t mean just the influx of people or businesses but the protection of our heritage values, our future and that of our children (remember our neighboring local government that became tenants in their own lands).
My living experience in Europe revealed that countries like the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy and the likes remained the most diversified societies in the world today yet they still protect their heritage values. But Countries like France, Belgium,USA & Co that careless about strange culture all in the name of FREE SOCIETY and CIVILIZATION are paying heavily today with their homeland security. May God console the victims and their families.
Development is coming to Badagry now, are we ready for the effects of development? I call on the Zangans, Oga Ilus, interest groups,Youth organisations and relevant government bodies to be ahead of the situation. Always remember: THERE IS JUST ONE BADAGRY, AND WE MUST PROTECT IT. Thanks for your time.
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to stop acting like the grandfather of corruption in Nigeria by shielding his men from probe.
This is just as he asked Nigerians to demand the release of the authentic report of the Committee on Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement in the Nigerian Armed Forces.
He described claim by the federal government that the probe panel only looked into procurement and contracts awarded by the military between 2011-2015 because documents regarding procurement from 2007 to 2010 were not available as a clear indication of his support for corruption.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said “it is now obvious to the entire world that anyone that is in President Buhari’s good books can never be adjudged as corrupt even if such a person is caught looting the entire money in Nigeria’s treasury.”
The governor said it smacked of sheer hypocrisy and nepotism for anyone to accept that fraud could have been perpetrated on procurement and award of contracts in an establishment without the involvement of the director of procurement.
“There are many petitions relating to the defence from 2007 that are being discarded, the question is why? There are several petitions against APC leaders that are not being looked into, the question is why?
“Fghting corruption and targeting only opponents of the president is in itself corruption,” he said.
He said; “Buhari’s’ Minister of Interior, Major General Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd) was Chief of Army Staff between 2008 and 2010 and the current Chief Of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Buratai served as Director of Procurements, Defence Headquarters, from 2012 till May 2015.
“It is a fact that the committee in its terms of reference said it queried all procurement from 2007 to 2015. Even the Press Release issued was titled; ‘Third Interim Report of the Presidential Committee on Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement from 2007 to 2015.’
“First paragraph of the committee report also indicated that it used 2007-2015 as reference, stating that the committee ‘analysed procurement contracts awarded by or for the Nigerian Army between 2007 and 2015.’
“Questions Nigerians must now begin to ask President Buhari and his government are: where is the report of Presidential Committee on Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement relating to 2007 to 2010? Who doctored the committee report and why?
“Lai Mohammed said the Committee would commence the audit of procurement from 2007 to 2010 ‘as soon as the necessary documents are available’, it is necessary that Nigerians are told who the custodians of the documents are. Why were documents on procurement from 2011 and 2015 available and those of 2007 to 2010 not available?
“Early this year, we were told that an ally of President Buhari and chieftain of the APC, Brig. General Jafaru Isa (rtd) refunded N100 million of the N170 million he allegedly received from ex-NSA, Sambo Dasuki.
“Jafaru Isa who was a member of the 19-man Buhari Transition Committee was released after he was allegedly assisted by the Presidency to refund N100 million to the anti-graft commission and since then, nothing has been heard about the case. He was not charged to court like others.
“It took the Ministry of Defence and ths Code of Conduct Bureau only one week to clear Buratai but others from the opposition party would be languishing in prison while EFCC go about fishing for evidence against them.
“Like I and other well-meaning Nigerians have maintained, fighting corruption is a good idea but the moment documents of probe panels and being doctored to shield those seen as the President’s men, the entire purpose of the corruption fight has been defeated.
“The international community must therefore prevail on President Buhari to stop acting like the grandfather of corruption in Nigeria by making the anti-corruption war all-inclusive instead of this clear persecution of his perceived political enemies, and the first step to demonstrate that will be the immediate release of report of the Presidential Committee on Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement covering 2007 to 2015.”
