Saraki, Ekweremadu'll Know No Peace Until They Vacate Seat - Senate-Colleague Reveals
The leadership of the Senate under Senator Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu will not enjoy peace until they are pushed out of office, Senator Robert Ajayi Boroffice said on Wednesday.

Boroffice who was at the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to collect his nomination and expression of interest form to contest the party’s ticket for the Ondo State governorship election insisted that his group, Unity Forum, would continue to challenge the Bukola Saraki, Senate President, and Ike Ekweremadu, his deputy, until integrity is restored.

Senator Boroffice added that the Unity Forum where he belongs was fighting the current Senate leadership based on principle and not because they hate anybody.

Speaking with newsmen on Wednesday at the APC national secretariat in Abuja after picking form to contest the governorship primary election of the party, Boroface said his group would continue to “fight to ensure that the image of the Senate is redeemed.”

“I am one of those people who went to court to challenge the election of the Senate principals and I maintain that we have done that on principle not because we hate anybody. We want to defend the integrity of the Senate and the sanity of the rule of law.

“So, it is not that we are all working in the same direction, some of us are speaking out and I hope that you press men will give expression to our voices when we speak out.

“So, I can assure you that we will not be intimidated, we will continue to fight to ensure that the image of the Senate is redeemed so that any senator in Nigeria can raise his head anywhere in the world and described himself as senator.”

When asked to comment on the agitation for restructuring of the country, the two-term senator said, “The Senate again this year we pray that we have enough time to send this amendment to Mr. President to be assented to. If you look at it, you will see we are already restructuring with that with those amendment. Some of the things that they are in the exclusive list of the Federal Government have been brought to the concurrent list of the state and we are actually committed to true federalism, fiscal federalism.

“Some of us are in support of the state police, even though we know is subject to misuse. We believe that certain items that are now in the exclusive list of the Federal Government should be transferred to the state.

“So we are doing something about it, we are not making noise about it and by the time we get this amendment thing, many Nigerians would know we have done a good job not only in terms of structure but in the area of revenue allocation these are very important issue we cannot deny.”

According to the governorship aspirant, Ondo should be one of the best in terms of economic vibrancy, it’s an oil producing state, has second largest deposits of bitumen in the world.

“It has natural resources like cocoa, palm oil, coal but all these remain untapped…We need someone knowledgeable, that can help to create jobs, ease our ailing economy.

”We have ceramic, rubber, wood industries that are all dead. If we revive them we will not need to depend on the government. We will plug all leakages and develop a very vibrant economy.

“We will run a knowledge-driven economy. We must make sure Nigerians pay their taxes. There are countries that have no natural resource and are doing very well,” he said.

CORRUPTION: Ribadu Tongue-lashes Jonathan, Lauds Buhari, Reveals Cabals Still After Him

CORRUPTION: Ribadu Tongue-lashes Jonathan, Lauds Buhari, Reveals Cabals Still After Him
In a veil manner, a former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, Malam Nuhu Ribadu has lambasted past administration of President Goodluck Jonathan for lacking the political will to fight corruption. He however lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for his zeal, political will to fight corruption to a standstill.

Rubadu on Wednesday said he was still “paying dearly” for his efforts to rid the country of corruption, The Nation reports

According to him, corruption would not have become so endemic if past administrations had the will to fight it.

Ribadu, who denied tampering with recovered assets while at EFCC, said highly placed government officials frustrated the commission’s work, culminating in his removal from office and ‎halting the progress being made in the anti-graft war.

“Somebody was brought in to destroy the agency. It was a tragedy,” Ribadu said.

He spoke in Abuja at a National Stakeholders’ Workshop on the Recovery and Management of Recovered Assets, organised by the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), in collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat.

PACAC chairman, Prof Itsay Sagay (SAN), said if Ribadu had not been removed, maybe corruption would not have become so endemic.

He said developing strategies for recovery of stolen assets would act as a deterrent to looters.

“Seizure of assets is more painful to them than imprisonment,” Sagay said.

Ribadu, who gave the keynote speech with the theme: Assets Recovery in Nigeria: Experiences from the past, said although he was still paying the price for stepping on some toes, he had no regrets.

He denied allegations that he was part of those who allegedly re-looted recovered assets, including N1trillion, and expressed surprise that it was a subject of Senate investigation.

He said: “Considering the care we took in handling whatever was in our custody, I find it baffling and disheartening when I hear people make insinuations about how we handled recovered assets.

“It is a most unfair remark but certainly not totally surprising as the fight against corruption is essentially a thankless job, especially in our climes.

“That was why I was telling Prof Sagay: ‘Don’t bother sir, people will abuse you; don’t say anything. This is the job’.

“We are hurting people; we are taking things from those who took things and we denied them chance to make use of them and enjoy and with their family.

“I’m still paying dearly. In my own madness, I decided to go into politics and I am still paying for it. But I am not bothered. I’ll continue fighting till my last breath. If I’m given the opportunity I’ll do it again.”

Ribadu believes the Buhari administration has the political will to tackle corruption and has demonstrated it.

He described EFCC chairman Ibrahim Magu as “a good, courageous and honest guy”.

Ribadu said: “We have the most vital tool needed in this war, namely political will. I see in the present leadership, specifically the president, the will to allow the war to be fought without interference and the eagerness to support it in whatever way possible. These two points are important prerequisite in winning the anti-corruption war.

“We are also lucky to have a set of people, including Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) who are very passionate and committed to be in charge of the process,” he said.

According to him, due to the limitations of the existing laws on asset forfeiture, the current attempt at enacting a law to cover the spectrum of issues around forfeiture is a welcomed development.

He said despite lack of lack of adequate legal guidance, a lot of stolen assets laundered in several countries had been returned.

According to him, the most significant case of assets recovery prior to the establishment of the EFCC are those stolen by the late head of state General Sani Abacha loot. He said N83billion was recovered from Abacha’s loot locally alone.

“As a legal officer and prosecutor then with the Nigeria Police, I was attached to the team that worked on the Abacha case. With paucity of assets recovery laws, we relied on informal methods including Administrative Confiscation, a mechanism of confiscating assets through non-judicial means. Within the first few months, we recovered billions domestically from such forfeitures,” he said.

Ribadu said a national policy on assets recovery and their use must be developed, backed by a strong legal framework.

“I would suggest that high level, serious consultations be held between all the three arms of government to discuss steps and measures of evolving a very comprehensive national strategy on the fight against corruption that would enumerate the roles expected of all; the executive, the legislature and the judiciary.

“We should have a strategy that is a product of a consensus. Out of this strategy we can agree, if need be, to have new laws or institutions with clear mandates and responsibilities,” Ribadu said.

PACAC Executive Secretary, Prof Bolaji Owasanoye, said between $20billion to $40billion is stolen annually from developing countries.

According to him, seizure is important to the asset recovery process as it ensures the blockage or preservation of assets.

He said such seizures require judicial backing, usually through ex-parte orders (in which notice is not given) so as to prevent the looter from transferring or hiding the assets.

Director, Rule of Law Division, Commonwealth Secretariat, Katalaina Sapolu, said the international community and the Commonwealth would support the Buhari administration’s bid to recover stolen funds.

She said more importantly is what to do with the assets when recovered.

“The management of recovered proceeds is really an issue. Asset recovery has been implemented. But what do you do with the stolen assets once you receive them?

“We do not think that there has been, in many jurisdictions, a really settled view on the approach, because it requires development of policy and establishment of relevant institutional frameworks,” Sapolu said.

According to her, the outcome of the three-day workshop would help in the formulation of such policies.

Gov. Yari Locks Up Assembly Speaker, Lawmakers In Prison For daring Him

Governor Locks Up Speaker, Lawmakers In Prison For daring Him
The boldness by Zamfara state House of Assembly members to discuss the dwindling state of affairs in the state has landed the Speaker and some members of the House in police custody.

On the orders of Governor Abdulaziz Yari, the Speaker, Sanusi Rikiji, his deputy, Muhammad Gumi, House majority leader, Isah Abdulmumini, and the chief whip of the house, Abdullahi Dansadau have been arrested by the State Security Services (SSS).

According to a report aired on Voice of America (VOA) Hausa Service on Wednesday, the lawmakers are in detention in Abuja after the governor alleged they were scheming to impeach him from office.

The offence the lawmakers committed it was gathered, was calling for a special sitting with Governor Yari to deliberate on what it termed, “The difficult situation the state found itself,” mainly   as regards governance of the state and how to find a way out.

But Governor Yari, who is said to have misinterpreted the true intent of the lawmakers summon, misunderstood them to be scheming to impeach him, and not wanting to take chances, decided to order their arrest and detention.

A lawmaker from the state, Umaru Faru, who spoke to VOA, said the unbearable situation in the state is glaring to everyone, “people accuse the governor of abandoning the state, and they are also complaining about the handling of the state resources especially the bailout funds released specifically to pay workers’ salaries.

“The money came but no one knows what happened to it, as we speak local government staff, pensioners have not been paid, in fact, our traditional rulers have not been paid their 5 per cent constitutional allocation for several months, civil servants pay was cut and some of them were even sacked because of dwindling revenue, however, they were not paid their entitlement even after the bailout came.

“That is why we invited them, definitely not for impeachment purposes.”

According to reports, many of the remaining lawmakers have fled the state and were taking refuge in Kaduna state and those who are still there are hiding for fear of arrest.

This is even as the lawmakers late Tuesday, in a statement signed by the chairman, House Committee on Information, Mannir Gidan Jaja, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene, saying Mr Yari is abusing his office.

Akpabio's Inlaws Accused Him Of Using Wife For Ritual As Her Health Condition Goes Beyond Ordinary

Akpabio's Inlaws Accused Him Of Using Wife For Ritual As Her Health Condition Goes Beyond Ordinary
APC News Alert - Former Akwa Ibom State First Lady and wife of Senate Minority Leader, Ekaette Uloma. Akpabio is brain dead resulting from critical health condition, this paper can authoritatively report. Almost all her vital organs have failed, a medical condition doctors classify as Uremia has set in with the patient suffering from mental disorientation. As a result, a major crisis is brewing between the former Akwa Ibom State Governor and current Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio and his in-laws.

“Eka Esit Mbom” or “Mother Theresa” as the former first lady was fondly called by her supporters and loyalists when her husband was Governor of the oil-rich Niger Delta State has been critically ill for months before being in a state of coma two months ago.

Sources close to the family told our reporter that her health condition worsened suddenly as the EFCC and Code of Conduct Bureau started investigating billions of naira traced to her bank accounts as well as a multi million Pope John Paul International Nursery School in Uyo which she owns but she was unable to explain to the anti-graft agency where and how she got the money to build the school. The probe allegedly triggered anxiety and apprehension which took its toll on her for months before her health condition nosedived.

Her health allegedly deteriorated over the weekend with the failure of her kidney and liver, a situation that has left the former first lady non reactive to treatment thus not conscious of herself or environment. When her family members visited her in the hospital, she was alleged not to have recognise any of them nor could she comprehend anything they said. Her mental disorientation is alleged to be synonymous to complete insanity.

Rattled and dumbfounded by the sudden and drastic decline in the health of their daughter, Akpabio’s in-laws were alleged to have confronted the former Governor, accusing him of being the brain behind the ill health of their daughter. The In-laws accused the Senate Minority Leader of using his wife spiritually for sacrifice to acquire political power and relevance.

Akpabio on his part was alleged to have flayed up at the accusation, insisting that as the spouse, he feels the pain and trauma of his wife’s illness more than the in-laws, denying ever using his wife for ritual purposes as alleged. Unconfirmed reports say the in-laws threatened to take custody of the children for fear that Akpabio is also capable of using the children for rituals in view of his desperation to escape EFCC probe and prosecution for the over #2.5 trillion he is alleged to have stolen while he held sway as Governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2007-2015. He was said to have boasted before his wife took ill that he will do anything and go to any length to prevent being arrested by the EFCC or being sent to jail for corruption, a declaration that is fuelling suspicious among his in-laws that he might as well be ready to sacrifice his entire family if need be for political reasons.

According to a source privy to the confrontation, the in-laws were worried that in just one year after leaving office, his wife’s health could plummet so sudden and at a rate that is unprecedented with all her vital organs collapsing. The in-laws allegedly found it strange that their daughter who was a year ago healthy and could afford medical checkup anywhere in the world could fall critically sick all of a sudden, insisting that there is more to their daughters sickness than what meets the eyes.

Speaking exclusively to our reporter, an associate of the former first family who pleaded anonymity because she was not authorized to speak on the matter said Uloma’s health condition has gone critical as Akpabio’s wife is only surviving by the grace and mercy of God. “Uloma Akpabio’s condition is critical as her vital organs have collapsed. Her kidney and liver have failed. Once these two vital organs stop functioning, its not something good as it is the kidney and liver that process even the drugs she should take but when they fail as they have it becomes useless to even administer drugs”.

“Her issue is further compounded by the fact that her liver is also down. Doctors can try kidney transplant for her kidney but i am yet to hear of liver transplant. What makes her condition worse is that there is increased toxic in the blood resulting in mental disorientation and that’s the worst level of poison the body can take”, he declared.

Reacting on the development, a former Commissioner who served during the first tenure of Akpabio said what is happening to Akpabio and his wife is a clear case of nemesis catching up with the former first family, submitting that the same may befall the Udom Emmanuel family if he fails to quickly disassociate himself from the atrocities of the Akpabio dynasty against Akwa Ibom people and ask for forgiveness from those he has offended.

She insisted that though it is not African or cultural to rejoice at the misfortune of a person, the former first lady was privy to all the political motivated killings that were carried out in Akwa Ibom when her husband was in power which makes it practically impossible for most Akwa Ibom people to have empathy for her and accused Uloma of personally ordering the killings of some people especially women she believed were having an affair with her husband.

“Many people were killed by Uloma than Akpabio. The difference was that those Akpabio killed were more pronounced but that of the wife were done with much more clinical efficiency and the Department of State Security played a very prominent role in this regards as rogue agents within the service were used by the former first lady to silence perceived opponents”, she declared.

The former Commissioner noted with dismay that the crave for blood as a menu for power was so alarming during the Akpabio regime as many cabinet members who were not comfortable with what was going on within the government could not also resign and leave the regime for fear of being declared an enemy of the regime which would have qualified most of them to be marked for elimination by the “strike force” who for eight years were under the control and command of the former first lady.

“While am not happy with what is happening to her, the truth is that people should use this to know that there is a God who sees and watches anything and everything we do. I am not trying to sound pessimistic but I do not see Akpabio’s wife surviving her present ordeal because of volume of innocent blood that cry out to God for vengeance for what her family did is much. Too many wives were made widows. Too many children were made orphans by the Akpabio’s. Too many husbands had their wives kidnapped, raped and killed and you don’t expect God to keep mute forever. Their blood, tears and lamentation constantly cry to Heaven daily and must constantly haunt those behind their untimely death and this is one simple truth the many religious men and women who were sycophantic around the former first family refused to tell them because of the blood money they were receiving”.

She explained that the predicament of the former first lady should serve as a wake up call to leaders that one can still be in government and manage his or her political opponents without necessarily resorting to killing and assassination of perceived opponents and called on the present administration in the state to learn from what is happening to the Akpabio’s to avoid being a victim.

“I will not pity Uloma as she deserves whatever comes her way and i can tell you that the fate of her husband will be worse once the EFCC concludes its investigation of the ongoing probe of his tenure as Governor. But my prayer is that Udom and the wife should quickly learn from what is happening and distance themselves and their administration from anything Akpabio, lest God’s anger will also be upon Udom and his household”.

“Am not laying a curse on Udom but its a natural thing that will happen if he is not careful because a greater percentage of the deaths took place to pave the way for him to emerge as Governor. Personally, am alive today because of God as this same Uloma sent assassins to kill me that i was dating her husband. But God is my witness, her claim was not true and I became a Commissioner without knowing or meeting Akpabio before but based on recommendation some a high ranking chieftain of the PDP and Akpabio admired me because of his relationship with the one who recommended me to him for appointment as Commissioner but his wife took our closeness and relationship the wrong way. I left the cabinet because of her when it became obvious that my continued stay in the government will put my life and family at risk”, she submitted.

Saraki Regreting Defection To APC

Saraki Regreting Defection To APC
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Barrister Gboyega Oguntuase, has declared that the present trial of the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki by the All Progressives Congress-led federal government was an indication that all is not well with defectors from PDP to the ruling party.

Oguntuase, former Commissioner for Information, reminded those planning to dump the party in Ekiti State not to lose sight of the regrets being suffered by party bigwigs that had defected to APC, noting that this shall be their lots if they take the plunge.

Speaking against the backdrop of the alleged factionalisation of the party in the state, with Mr. Williams Ajayi and a former Senator, Chief Clement Awoyelu leading a splinter group perceived to be loyal to a Senator from Ogun State, the party boss said his executive won’t tolerate rebellious actions from members, urging those belonging to the faction to retrace their steps.

Saraki is presently being tried by the federal government for alleged forgery of the Senate Standing Rules through which he was elected into office and for alleged false assets’ declaration at the Code of Conduct Tribunal while serving as the governor of Kwara State.

Speaking with journalists in Ado Ekiti on Friday, Oguntuase said it is no longer profitable to leave a democratic party like the PDP and defect to the APC, a party he described as too ‘sectional and discriminative’ to accommodate defectors.

The Chairman also disproved the wide spread insinuation that the party executive was being tele guided and out rightly subsumed by Governor Ayodele Fayose.

Why I Visited APC Secretariat - Atiku Opens Up

Why I Visited APC Secretariat - Atiku Opens Up
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC,  has explained the purpose of his visit to the national secretariat of the APC on Monday.

The Turaki Adamawa, through a press statement by his media office in Abuja yesterday, noted that his visit to the party secretariat was not a response to summon by the leadership of the party as widely speculated.

The visit to the national secretariat of our great party was to rub minds with the party hierarchy, and it was of a routine kind as a chieftain of the party.

“I was neither summoned nor queried by the party on any issue as being speculated. Rather, my visit was at my own behest. “As a party chieftain, I owe it a duty to my party to appraise challenges within the structures of the party and also proffer suggestions on how to manage those challenges.

I urge you all to discountenance any malicious insinuations about my visit to the party secretariat,” the former vice president concluded.
