Messi Rejects Barcelona New Deal, Sets To Join English Club
The Barcelona and Argentine's Football star, Lionel Messi may have made up his mind to join an English Premier League Club, following his rejection of new deal with the Spanish giant.

Manchester City lead bitter rivals Man Utd in the race to sign Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi after the player last week rejected Barcelona's new contract offer.

Chelsea had earlier also signified interest in signing the Barcelona star.

Messi refused Barcelona's offer after seeing that it's not as good as he wanted it to be, compared to the one recently given to his rival Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid.

Man City have now upped their attempts to sign the very talented forward.
According to the Sun UK, Man U were confident of signing Messi, seeing that he is even an Adidas ambassador as Adidas sponsors the club too, but Man City have strengthened talks with Messi's team to try to sign him if he were to ever consider leaving Barcelona.

The report reads: 'Man United have admitted defeat and believe bitter rivals City would be favorites to sign Lionel Messi if he was to leave Barcelona.

An Old Trafford source said: “City would be the favorites if he were to one day leave, but we would obviously love the sign a player of that level. We can certainly compete on the cash front and Messi is an Adidas player like Paul Pogba, so we have our pluses.''

Lionel Messi, the Barcelona superstar has been given a suspended term by a Spanish court, meaning he is expected to avoid spending time behind bars

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has been handed a 21-month prison sentence for tax fraud but is unlikely to serve time in prison.

Any sentence under two years can be suspended under Spanish law, meaning Messi is expected to avoid spending a day behind bars, according to widespread reports.

Messi, one of the world's highest-paid footballers, was tried alongside his father, Jorge Horacio Messi, for deceiving Spain's tax authority of €4.1 million (£3.19m) between 2007 and 2009.

The forward, who recently announced his retirement from the Argentina national team, has also been fined six weeks' wages worth £1.7 million.

The 29-year-old was accused of creating a number of fake companies in Belize and Uruguay to avoid taxation on his lucrative image rights.

Messi claimed he never suspected any wrongdoing about his financial affairs, but a court has found both he and his father guilty in the crime.

Jorge has also been given the same sentence and both can appeal through the Supreme Court
