At Last, Mikel To Join Valencia In 4 Years Deal From Chelsea - 'Jesus' Confirms

Mikel Obi
Super Eagles captain and Chelsea of England midfielder John Mikel Obi is likely to end his playing nightmare with Conte following a likely move to Valencia after holding Christmas Day talks with the Spanish club.According to dailymail.com

Sporting director of Valencia of Spain, Jesus Garcia Pitarch says he put forward a proposal to Mikel, 29, whose Chelsea contract expires in the summer.

The Nigeria international is free to talk to foreign clubs about a summer move and Chelsea allowed him to discuss a January exit with Valencia, who are believed to be offering a potential four-year deal.

Valencia sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch confirmed he met with Mikel to put forward a proposal a little over a week ago.

But manager Cesare Prandelli’s decision to quit the Spanish club after just 10 games since that meeting could throw a spanner into the works.

‘In the case of Obi Mikel, with Chelsea’s permission, I met with him in London on Christmas Day,’ Pitarch told Spanish outlet Superdeporte.
‘I informed him of the option [of joining Valencia]. He said he would think about it.’

Prandelli left Valencia on Saturday after growing frustrated with their lack of ambition in the transfer market.

Mikel, a veteran of 11 seasons at Stamford Bridge since joining from Lyn Oslo in 2006, has also fielded interest from Marseille.

The defensive midfielder would have preferred to stay at Chelsea but accepts that he may have to move on, with Mikel placed some way down Antonio Conte’s pecking order.

The Italian manager signed N’Golo Kante this summer and Nathaniel Chalobah is also now ahead of Mikel in his thinking after returning from a series of loan spells.

WCQ: Algeria Petitions FIFA Over Mikel's Goal: Watch Video Of The Controversial Goal Again Here

Super Eagles of Nigeria
An online petition set up by an agitated fan of the Algeria national team aimed at preventing Gambian referee, Bakary Papa Gassama, has gathered momentum, with over 100 people putting their name to it, reports owngoalnigeria.com.

The 37-year-old allowed John Obi Mikel goal, which the petition claimed was from an offside position, to stand as Nigeria secured a 3-1 win over Algeria in the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

Algeria Coach, Georges Leekens, has narrowed his side’s defeat to that second goal scored by Mikel a few minutes to the half time break, as it somehow killed the game off as a contest after 45 minutes.

Video replays analyzed by soccer experts in Algeria claimed Mikel was indeed offside when he scored the second goal for Nigeria and it has led to the online petition.

They want FIFA to ban Gassama from games in the World Cup 2018 qualifiers, particularly matches against them, as they are yet to win a game he has handled.

Meanwhile, on-loan Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Nabil Bentaleb, who scored a screamer against Nigeria, has revealed the secret behind his well-hit drive, which ended up as a consolation for Algeria in their 1-3 loss to Nigeria.
Bentaleb took advantage of a space in front of the defence of Nigeria to lash in an unstoppable drive from over 30 yards beyond Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi.

Now, the Schalke 04 man has revealed he took advantage of the poor positioning of Akpeyi, as noticed by his coach before driving his effort home.

“We were told about his poor positioning by our coaches during the half time break, and when the space opened up I tried my luck from range. I won’t say I expected it to go in but it was worth the try,” he told the Algerian press.

Conte Issues Red Card To Mikel To Quit Chelsea

Conte Issues Red Card To Mikel To Quit Chelsea

Mikel Obi
Chelsea boss, Antonio Conte has dropped a bombshell on the club’s current second longest serving player John Mikel Obi by stating that he is not in his plans and can leave in January.

Mikel after spending 11 seasons at Stamford Bridge will have to move on since he appears to have been frozen out of the team after being relegated to the bench since Conte took over as coach.

The Super Eagles captain according to reports had engaged in talks with Conte pertaining to making his first competitive appearance under him and Mikel had given the impression that matters were under control only to receive this shocker from his English side’s boss.

Coach of the Nigerian national team Gernot Rohr met with Technical Director Mike Emenalo, who revealed to Rohr that Mikel is not in the plans of the Italian manager.

“Talks were held between Mikel and the manager. As for now he has been told he can leave in January, mind you his contract is set to expire in the summer” a source close to the midfielder told Owngoalnigeria.com.

“There’s every possibility for him to leave Chelsea either on loan or permanently in January. But the summer looks more likely. Every story must have an end. After 11 seasons, Mikel wants to move on and so too Chelsea.”

The 29-year-old midfielder put his Chelsea career at risk and guided the national team to a memorable bronze at the Rio Olympic Games in August – and returned  the following month to lead the Super Eagles to a 1-0 victory over Tanzania in a Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo.

Mikel Confronts Conte In Drastic Move To Save Chelsea Career

Mikel Confronts Conte In Drastic Move To Save Chelsea Career

Mikel Obi
Nigeria's Senior national team captain, but Out-of-favour Chelsea midfielder  Mikel  Obi has held showdown talks with  Blues  manager  Antonio Conte  after being  frozen out of the team by the Italian.

The Nigeria captain  has yet to play a single  Premier League match for the Stamford Bridge side  since the beginning  of the season.

Mikel revealed  on Monday  that  he had been working hard to  play his way back into the team.

“Fighting every day for my place, like all the guys are. Focus, work hard,” the 2013 Europa League winner  wrote  on Twitter.

Former Italy manager Conte is allegedly not happy with the 29-year-old for opting to represent Nigeria at the Rio  2016 Olympic Games, where he helped the national Under-23 team win bronze (Nigeria’s only medal at the competition).

Mikel, who was signed from Norwegian side Lyn Oslo by the then manager of Chelsea Jose Mourinho  in 2016,  has  however  turned in a pair of impressive performances for  the Super Eagles, guiding them to a 1-0 victory over Tanzania in their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo in September   followed by  their 2-1 win against Zambia in their 2018 World Cup qualifier in Ndola on October 9.

With criticisms flying from all directions for his lack of match action at his London club, the 2012 UEFA Champions League winner, who got  plenty of playing time under Dutchman  Guus Hiddink, has apparently moved to save his club career.

Mikel is competing with in-form N’Golo Kante and  Nemanja Matic for a role  in defensive midfield and the player, who represented Nigeria at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil,  confirmed on Tuesday he had  spoken to Conte about his frustrations at the club.

“I hope I will get some playing time against West Ham, but it is down to the manager,”  the Evening Standard quoted him as saying.

“He has been open and honest with me. I respect him for that. He has explained the situation and I totally understand.

“When you have been at a club for a long time, these things happen where a club wants to move forward.

“I just have to be professional, work as hard as I can to try and get into the team. I work twice as hard every day and it’s because I appreciate this club.”

Mikel Donates Own Share of $200,000 Gift From Japanese Billionaire To Teammates
After Japanese multi millionaire surgeon Katsuya Takasu kept to his promise by donating $390,000 to Nigeria's team that won Bronze at Rio 2016, reports now have it that Mikel Obi has agreed to donate part of his own share to his U-23 teammates at the just concluded Rio 2016.

Some earlier reports had revealed that the NFF wanted to take some share of the gift from the surgeon, but the NFF over the weekend dismissed such reports in a series of tweets saying they only wanted to ensure due process.

“Mikel has insisted all of us will get our share of the money. That we should not mind what the people in the NFF are saying.' one of Nigeria's Under 23 players told AfricanFootball.

“He will make available this cash when he comes for next month’s AFCON qualifier against Tanzania in Uyo.”

''A team meeting has already resolved that both players and officials will receive equal amount of the cash with Mikel himself agreeing to give part of his own share for the chief coach (Siasia) to get more than the rest of the squad.''

'The sharing formula agreed was a flat rate for the 22 players (18 accredited players and four alternate players) and 10 officials.''

Mikel earns about £75,000 per week at London club, Chelsea.

Mikel Obi Named As New Super Eagles Captain

Barely 24 hours to the crucial 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier against the Pharaohs of Egypt in Kaduna, former skipper Ahmed Musa has announced Mikel Obi as the new captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Speaking at a press briefing in Kaduna today March 24, the CSKA Moscow forward honoured Mikel the position as the new captain of the team as the Eagles get set to file out on Friday March 25 for the first time, since the return of Samson Siasia as the head coach.

Delighted by the gesture and his level of maturity, the Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi thanked Ahmed Musa and the team for the rare opportunity, adding that it would be the beginning of great things to come for the country.

“Thanks to Musa and the team. It will be a new Super Eagles with a new approach,” Mikel said. It would be recalled that the sudden retirement of Vincent Enyeama was said to have been triggered after former Super Eagles coach Oliseh told the goalkeeper to leave the camp in Belgium for questioning his choice of Ahmed Musa as captain in October 2015. Enyeama denied this allegation saying his confrontation with gaffer Sunday Oliseh arose after his dead mother was insulted.

Mikel Obi will now begin to direct the affairs of a rather young and new team of the Super Eagles. His main target would be to help the team get needed results against Egypt, and ultimately qualify Nigeria for the 2017 African Nations Cup billed for Gabon next year.

Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi has been hospitalised in Abuja after he suffered from food poisoning, according to Nigeria coach Samson Siasia.

Iwobi, 19, did not train with the rest of the Super Eagles squad on Tuesday morning ahead of Friday’s crucial AFCON qualifier against Egypt on account of the food poisoning.

“He suffered from food poisoning and so was not part of the training. But his condition is stable,” disclosed Siasia.

It was further gathered that Iwobi ate a meal of salad from where he got the problem.

His father, Chuka, who flew with him from London, has visited the youngster in hospital.

The midfielder has played two friendlies for his father's native country, but he has yet to play an official game since he switched his international allegiance.

At the weekend, he crowned his first Premier League debut with a goal in Arsenal 2-0 win at Everton.

In the meantime, 19 other players trained on Tuesday morning at the Abuja National Stadium.

They will also train in Kaduna later today.

The players include skipper Ahmed Musa, Mikel Obi, Carl Ikeme, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Etim Matthew, Ifeanyi Matthew, Oghenekaro Etebo, Efe Ambrose, Godfrey Oboabona, Orji Kalu and Fenando Adi.
