Nationwide Strike: FG Woos Workers With Increment To N45k As Minimum Wage

Fresh report according to HeralNG suggests that the Federal Government of Nigeria will propose a minimum wage of N45,000 to labour leaders in a meeting scheduled to hold today.

News Punch had earlier reported that the Federal Government might slash the price to  from the initial N145 tp N125 

This new development by the Federal Government is believed to be an initiative towards to persuade the organised labouur to shun its plans to embark on a nationwide strike set to commence on Wednesday.

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba confirmed the scheduled meeting saying he got a text message inviting him and other labour leaders to the meeting, The Guardian reports.

The meeting, which is scheduled to hold at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment at 3.PM, will see the proposed increase by the Federal Government come with some provisos including reduction in the number of civil servants and merging ministries and agencies.

It was also revealed that ministers had been told to lead the initiative on the downsizing.

Also, the Efficiency Unit in the Federal Ministry of Finance, which responsible for coming up with cost reduction strategies is working on the template for the reduction.

The Federal Government would also be relying on the report of the Steve Oronsaiye’s panel on the rationalisation of the civil service in the streamlining process, TheHeraldNg Reports

MINIMUM WAGE: Gov. Oshiomhole Sets New Pace, Increases Workers' Wage At May Day

Amidst workers' clamour for N56,000 minimum wage, the Comrade-Governor, Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has set a new pace by approving N25,000 minimum wage for Edo workers from the initial N18,000.

Oshiomhole, who made the announcement  of the new minimum wage today at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City during the 2016 workers' day rally, said the new WAGE will take effect immediately.

“With effect from today, the new minimum wage for government workers shall now be N25,000, and the new minimum wage ‎will cut across board.

The workers who before the announcement, expressed dissatisfaction over the poor welfare and seeming government’s insensitivity to the welfare of its workersvjumped for joy and happily marched in appreciation of the new minimum wage as announced by the Governor.

Earlier in their respective speeches, the Chairman of NLC, Comrade Emma Ademokun and his TUC counterpart, Comrade Ohue Marshal, expressed concern over the persistent scarcity of petroleum product, epileptic power supply and illegal electricity tariff increase, spiral increase in cost of living, insecurity, kidnapping, rampaging herdsmen, Boko haram, irregular payment of salaries resulting in accumulation of arrears, growing rate of unemployment with the attendant social vices‎.
