N'Delta Avengers' General Felix Omereji, Co-Bombers SURRENDER, Expresses Regret, Asks God For Forgiveness

General Felix Omereji,
Barely 48hours to the expiration of the deadline given to the remnants of the Niger-Delta Avengers fighting in the Oil Producing Areas of  Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta, a leading Commander of the Militants, General Felix Omereji Wednesday, September 21, 2016 Surrendered with his fighters and embraced peace.

The event which took place at the Imo International Convention Centre (IICC) also saw the Security Chiefs in the State in attendance with General Felix stating that they boycotted the first phase of the disarmament programme last week to see what the State Government would do with the Commanders and their fighters who had surrendered their weapons at the event.

He explained that he was encouraged to surrender their weapons and embrace peace when they saw the Sincerity of Governor RochasOkorocha with regard to the first disarmament programme. General Felix and his fighters had surrendered guns including AK47 and explosives.

Felix regretted all they did in the Oil Producing areas of the State and prayed that God would also forgive them, thanking Governor Okorocha for his approach to the whole development which encouraged them to come out from the forest to embrace peace.

He assured that they would ensure the sustenance of the peace already achieved in the Oil Producing areas of the State with the Militants dropping their guns and embracing peace.

In his speech, Governor Okorocha told General Felix and his fighters that he has granted them Pardon like those before them while the President, MohammaduBuhari would grant them amnesty, adding that they had done well by not waiting for the deadline he gave to them to elapse.

The governor’s words, “We are here to receive our children who have been living in the forest for years killing many people. I am your father. I will pardon you, while the President would grant you Amnesty. We have gathered to dramatise life for those of the Militants who have dropped their guns to embrace peace. They have been pardoned”

The governor expressed happiness that since the last disarmament programme the people of Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta who abandoned their homes and ran away for years or months have begun to return to their homes and assured that he would do all within his reach to ensure that the peace achieved in the areas is maintained.

Nigeria Has Never Been This Divided Since Biafra War - Obasanjo Warns

buhari and obasanjo
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed concerned over the continued threats of disintegration resulting from the activities of armed groups in the different regions of the country.

Obasanjo said Nigeria has never been as divided in history, except for the country’s civil war period between 1967 and 1970.

Obasanjo who spoke yesterday at the maiden edition of the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ national summit held at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, said the media should not fan the embers of disunity but rather take the lead in the marching towards greater national integration and development.

The former president, who was represented by Peter Okebukola, a professor lambasted those calling for the breakup of Nigeria, arguing that the activities of the Niger-Delta Avengers, Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen had fractured the country.

“At no time in our history, except probably during the civil war, has Nigeria been so fractured in the feeling of oneness and belongingness by the citizenry,” he noted.

“In the last four months, we have an average of twenty hotspots across the country with huge potential for national disintegration.”
He urged the media to support the efforts of government in fighting internal security challenges.

“The press should mobilise the masses to strengthen the democratic process and play a crucial role in promoting a culture of tolerance, non-violence and mutual co-existence,” he said.

“For me, this Summit will only be successful if we find a niche for the press in our march to ensuring greater national cohesion, especially at this time in our history,” he said.

“Our strength as a nation lies in our unity and national cohesion and I want to entreat you (the media) to begin to preach the gospel of unity in diversity and unity of purpose and cohesion.”

Obasanjo also charged the Nigerian media to pay close attention to investigative journalism, as most news headlines lacked credibility and were based on rumours.

“It is unacceptable that a number of media organisations place low premium on investigative journalism,” he said. “These days, many news items that are used as headlines lack credibility and are based on rumours.”

The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, while declaring open the conference, said it was important for journalists as professionals to always be on guard against forces to take advantage of their power for selfish interest.

In his own remarks, Minister of Interior, Bello Dambazau said the power and significance of the media rest on their role of watchdog, stressing that the media through their reports help Nigerians in making informed decisions.

Alleged Sponsorship of N'Delta Avengers: Jonathan Refuses To Keep Quiet, Says It All, Alleges Plot To Assassination Him

Alleged Sponsorship of N'Delta Avengers: Jonathan Refuses To Keep Quiet, Says It All, Alleges Plot To Assassination Him

former President Goodluck Jonathan

Apparently, in deviation from his silence act on so many issues, the former President Goodluck Jonathan has alleged that  a list,  which named him and other South-South leaders as Niger Delta Avengers sponsors, was another attempt by a group, Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, to eliminate him.

Reformed Niger Delta Avengers,  a group, which split from the NDA – had named Jonathan as the grand patron of the NDA, a report originally emanated from Sahara Reporters and culled by News Punch.

The splinter group, Reformed Niger Delta Avengers in a statement by its spokesperson, Cynthia Whyte, also listed the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, as sponsors of the NDA.

Others mentioned in the list were Chief Edwin Clark, a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio; ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo (alias Tompolo); the founder, African Independent Television, Raymond Dokpesi; Kingsley Kuku; Kimi Angozi, and Patrick Akpobolokemi.

The group statement further said the NDA sympathisers are Daniel Alabrah; Tony Uranta, Daniel; Ms. Annkio Briggs, and a former spokesman for the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh.

The Reformed Niger Delta Avengers also named Oyege Nimi Brown, VIP Timothy, Joshua Macaiver, Paul Bebenimibo, among others, as the main operatives of the NDA.

It added that the President of the Ijaw Youth Council, Udengs Eradiri, aka Brig. Gen. Murdoch Agbinibo, served as the NDA’s chief spokesman.

Refusing to keep quiet on his alleged link to this group, Jonathan, in a statement on Sunday by his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, said the list by the splinter group was political, adding that it was part of an attempt to assassinate him.

“Since it is not in our place to speak for all those named in the obvious fabrication, we are only intervening to the extent that its hidden intent poses a violent threat to the life of former President Goodluck Jonathan, a committed patriot.

“We are seized by the feeling of déjà vu occasioned by the resurrection of one dim character masquerading as Cynthia Whyte, who had in the past served as the spokesperson for a notorious group that had all along shown its hand to be going after the life of former President Jonathan.”

The former President recalled that in 2007, after he emerged as the running mate of the late President Umar Yar’Adua, the group invaded Yenogoa in an effort to assassinate him.

He added that the members of the group later bombed his compound in Otuoke, Bayelsa State, on a night he was scheduled to attend to an important matter in his country home.

He said, “Do we need to remind anybody that the so-called Cynthia Whyte is the self-declared spokesperson for the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, a violent and murderous underground group led by one Henry Okah, which has not hidden its intention to destroy the former President?”

According to him, the bombing that took place on October 1, 2010 at the Eagle Square, Abuja,  showed that the group was violent.

He stated, “We have no doubt in our mind that MEND, as a group contracted to go after Jonathan with the mind of assassinating him, has yet to abandon this criminal and ignominious craving. It is in this light that we view the purported statement issued by Cynthia Whyte as not only a sadistic continuation of this sick desire, but also a futile attempt to instigate the Federal Government to needlessly go after the former President.

“Those who have been following the unsavoury developments in some parts of the country since the last general election would have noticed that MEND, its paymasters and other unscrupulous elements in the South-South region have been striving fruitlessly to exploit the ensuing confusion by surreptitiously working for the fulfilment of its yet-to-be declared political agenda.

“We are not under any illusion that more accusations and allegations of this nature would not be hurled Jonathan’s way in the future. But we are very positive that he can never be fazed by such negative energy.”

We'll Engage You In War If You Shun Dialogue - Army Warns Niger Delta Militants

We'll Engage You In War If You Shun Dialogue - Army Warns Niger Delta Militants
The Nigerian Army has said it would attack the Niger Delta Avengers if government’s effort to dialogue with the group and other militant groups fails.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-General Tukur Buratai declared this yesterday at the inauguration of newly built ultra-modern 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army headquarters complex and an Olympic-size swimming pool in Port Harcourt.

Buratai urged militant groups in the Niger Delta region to explore democratic means to make their needs known rather than resorting to violence.
“Government is still committed to dialogue, and whereby this cannot go on, then, we could resort to other means.

“The non-kinetic (force) means has always been the first before government can resort to the kinetic means.

“So, there is need for the Niger Delta Avengers to see reason and dialogue with government,” he said.

Buratai, who was represented by Major-General Ibrahim Attahiru, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Enugu, said the military would provide security for July 30 legislative rerun election, if need be.

He said the Army was faced with shortage of accommodation, offices and other infrastructure needed for optimal performance by troops.

The Chief of Army Staff informed current intervention effort in renovating dilapidated structures and building new ones, despite challenges of dwindling national resources.

“The newly built RSM accommodation quarters and brigade administrative headquarters will provide a conducive atmosphere for higher productivity by officers and soldiers.

“Also, the Olympic size swimming pool will avail troops opportunity to continue to train and prepare for amphibious operation in our maritime environment,” he said.

Buratai commended Brig.-Gen. Stevenson Olabanji, immediate past Commander of 2 Brigade Port Harcourt, for seeing to the completion of the projects in a period of six months.

Earlier, Brig-Gen Stevenson Olabanji, Commander, 3 Brigade, Kano, said he embarked on the projects with focus to improve command and control operations of the brigade.

“On assumption of office, I thought it wise to build a structure that would accommodate all the staff branches and sub-units of the brigade.
“Similarly, the Olympic size swimming pool came about as a result of death of some soldiers because of their inability to swim.

“The swimming pool will enhance troops confidence and increase chances of survival in emergency situation during the conduct of operations on waterways and creeks,” he said.

Meanwhile, Asawana Deadly Force of Niger Delta (ADFND), the militant group which earlier gave a two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government to grant the Niger Delta region an autonomous sovereignty or risk the bombings of the Niger Bridge, Lagos Main Land Bridge, Forcados Terminal, among other important places, yesterday, said issued the Federal Government the “last warning” to do what it demanded or it would carry out the attack without further notice.

In a statement by the leader, Commander Olomubini Kakarakokoro, a.k.a No Mercy, ADFND said: “The Federal Government should not take us for granted any more. Our patience is running out and we have decided to let the world know our grievances and pains again. We are sounding this as a last warning before the whirlwind gets down. The tsunami that would descend in coming days will be severe for the current government to handle.”

“We bet you, the government will not be able to handle what would happen in the Niger Delta in the days ahead. The operations that would follow our plans are strategic and all operations will be codified as our goals have been codified in a one line mission statement. Our mission is simple; give us our rightful dues as producers of Nigeria oil wealth – that is our sovereign state.

“The Federal Government cannot continue to give us crumbs. We own the oil and will no longer accept outsider’s controlling the oil blocs that are in our land. Alternatively, we want 60 percent of our oil blocs because we own the resources that sustain the country.

“When it gets down they would say the opposition is behind it, but we don’t care. All over the world, militia groups emerge for a reason and we have made our reasons clear and vivid. We would not give you the peace you want to continue the exploitation of our people. Again, we want to see proactive government action on major federal government projects in the Niger Delta, like the multi-billion dollar Export Processing Zone (EPZ) and the already approved Federal University of Maritime in Okenrenkoko, Delta state.

“For us, this is not about Jonathan, Tompolo and other persons they are pointing fingers at as masterminds of this well planned attacks. This is about us – the unemployed people of Niger Delta. This is about our mothers and children who are being ripped off. And some have said why now; it is simple. There is time for everything. This is the time for change and we want the change in the Niger Delta, now!”

NNPC Pipelines BOMBINGS: FG, Ex-Militants Reach Truce After 6hours Closed Door meeting
Nigerian Pilot - President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government has met with ex-militants in the Niger-Delta region and has reached a resolution to end conflicts resulting to pipelines bombing in the country.

In a closed meeting convened by the Special Adviser to the President on Niger-Delta Matters and Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme, Brigadier General Paul Boroh with ex- from Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, in Benin City, the Edo state capital which lasted over 6 hours, plans on how to put an end to reoccurring bombing was discussed.

Speaking with newsmen after the strategic meeting, Brig. Gen. Boro declared that the result of the recent bombing in the Niger-Delta is inflicting pains on Nigerians and reducing the economic fortune of the country and urged that they should discuss whatever issues they have  appropriately rather than resort to other means.

He added that plans are on top gear to provide welfare and housing scheme for the ex-militants aside its usual programme and projects that are on-going stressing that the current situation in the region has rendered the country impotent of solving its own problems.

According to Boroh on why the meeting was convened, “This amnesty programme is our programme and what has brought us so far is something that is happening now that affects all of us, whether you are living in the creek or outside. It is the issue of pipeline vandalism which I understand some people do it to make people feel bad or get recognised.

He therefore, urged that, “If you have issues, if you have misunderstanding, if you have anything worrying you at all, you should discuss it with the person you feel can solve the problem rather than going to destroy pipeline that is affecting the whole environment."

He further stated that, “The common factor is security challenges we are facing in our areas, in our region that is affecting the economy of the country. It is another aspect that we should not be indulging in. if you have an issue with anybody please discuss it with the person. It is better than bombing pipeline that would affect the environment."

Personally it makes me feel bad that we don’t know how to solve our problem. While speaking with the exmilitants, Boroh said, “It is our responsibility to make sure that security in our environment is well sorted out. Please let us do everything we can to make sure that doesn’t occur again”. He stated.

Brig Gen Boroh, who was optimistic about the meeting, noted that “We have all resolved that we will put our heads and hands and all in all together to prevent the re-occurrence of this type of thing.

He assured oil firms in the country that the Federal government is dedicated to end the problems associated with bombings and said “Collectively we (Federal government and Niger-Delta Avengers) have agreed to work as a team to prevent re-occurrence. We feel bad that it is happening, it is
affecting our economy and it is affecting development and we are very concerned about it”. He said.
