Obazee Not Sacked Because Of Adeboye - Presidency Reveals Why FRCN Boss Was Actually Fired

Pastor Adeboye and Obazee
More revelations have emerged over the sudden removal of Jim Obazee as the Executive Secretary of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, FRCN.

According to Presidency sources, Obazee was not fired by President Muhammadu Buhari because of the resignation of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye but for ‘procedural breaches.’

Vanguard quoted sources as saying that Obazee was sacked based on advice of the Attorney General of the Federation.

The source said the decision to sack Obazee was taken before Adeboye appointed a new leader for the ministry.

The source said: “The sack of Obazee had nothing to do with the decision of the General Overseer of RCCG, Pastor Adeboye to resign, retire, step aside or whatever. It was just a co-incidence.

“Even if Adeboye had not stepped aside, the man (Obazee) was gone. It had absolutely nothing to do with the pastor. The key issue is that there is a procedure for doing things all over the world but he completely ignored it.”

The source further explained that the code in question had not gone through the entire process before Obazee announced that it was law and must be complied with.

He added that the code was not a law but best practice guidelines and that organisations were meant to comply or explain why they won’t comply.

He explained: “The corporate governance code, which is a regulatory guideline for corporate organisation meant to guide both public and private (profit and non-profit) organisations, is a code that the FRCN is working on.

“There is a process of passing that code. The committee working on it was inaugurated by the last administration. But the process of passing that code meant that by the time that committee finishes working on it, there were supposed to be public hearings and all that. By the time the committee finishes its work, that code was supposed to get to the governing board (of FRCN) for approval.

“But as you know, all the boards were dissolved. So the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment was, in effect, the board (for the parastatals that he was supervising). When it goes through the board, it would be submitted to the Federal Executive Council to give approval for it to be issued. Code not a law but regulatory guideline

“Some people have interpreted it wrongly. It is not a law. It is a regulatory guideline and the basic problem was that the FRCN unilaterally decided to come out. And in essence this is something that was going to affect corporate organisations, the way businesses were being run in a very significant way.

“This administration is saying we want to make the way businesses are done in Nigeria easier. We don’t need further bottlenecks. We need to make it easier. And the corporate world was saying, ‘look, this governance code hasn’t got down with us. We needed to understand it, we needed to make inputs into it.’

“So, when the FRCN unilaterally took a decision on it, the minister said suspend it and explain and note the concerns from the various corporate organisations, because it was supposed to have come to the minister but the Executive Secretary of FRCN went ahead on his own and issued the code.

“There are all kinds of letters from various corporate organisations. The ministry was inundated with all kinds of letters everywhere. The issue of the churches and other non-profit organisations were just minor. It wasn’t something we were even thinking about. Because even in that code, what the Corporate Governance Code says about the churches was ‘comply or explain.’ It wasn’t a law. I don’t know how the churches understood it but there was no law that says you must retire. It says comply or explain. In effect, it was best practice advisory. That was what it was.

“But when the executive secretary literally broke all procedural laws of issuing it, the minister queried him and said this is not the way things are supposed to be but he disregarded it and literally came out again in the public to say that the code had been issued and it is law.

“So, the president with the advice of the AGF, because the AGF gave the advice that that was not the right thing to do. The President decided to suspend the code and terminate his appointment, reconstitute the FRC as it is. That was exactly what happened.”

SACKED FRCN Boss, Obazee Vowed To Remove Pastor Adeboye; He Was Our Zonal Pastor - RCCG Confirms

SACKED FRCN Boss, Obazee Vowed To Remove Pastor Adeboye; He Was Our Zonal Pastor - RCCG Confirms

Obazee and Adeboye
The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, yesterday, said the sacked Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, FRCN, Mr. Jim Obazee, had vowed to remove the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

This revelation was made by Head of the church’s Media and Public Relations, Pastor Segun Adegbiji, who also confirmed that the embattled Obazee was a zonal pastor with RCCG and, at a time, refused to honour Pastor Adeboye’s summons over alleged infractions.

According to Adegbiji, when the General Overseer noticed some infractions and sent for the then zonal pastor, he (Obazee) immediately replied that he was in his office and if Pastor Adeboye really wanted to see him, he knew where to reach him.

Obazee had allegedly refused to suspend the implementation of the FRCN regulation that requires heads of all registered churches, mosques and other non-profit organisations to serve a maximum of 20 years in office and thereafter hand over to someone from outside their families.

Obazee reportedly insisted  that only an official gazette would stop him.

Pastor Adegbiji further said that the recent changes announced by Pastor Adeboye, last week, which caused a stir in the polity, were informed by the provisions of the FRCN Act, explaining that the General Overseer does nothing without consulting God.

According to him, “God may have decided to carry out the reforms for a purpose though such appointments were not new to a growing church like RCCG which has branches in 192 nations of the world.

“The newly appointed country overseer, Pastor Joseph Obayemi may remain the overseer in charge of Nigeria operating from his current regional headquarters in Somolu in Lagos.

“The national headquarters of the church remains in Ebute Metta, Lagos, while the global headquarters is at the Redemption Camp, but the new country overseer, Pastor Obayemi may not immediately move to the Ebute Metta headquarters because it will be administratively inconvenient for him to operate from the headquarters of another region.”

He corrected the impression that the General Overseer, Pastor Adeboye had resigned and appointed a successor, saying: “The General Overseer has not stepped down. He is still the General Overseer of the church and the announcement has not diminished his schedule across the globe.”

He also corrected the impression that the new national overseer was a Special Assistant to the General Overseer, adding that Pastor Obayemi, who will now oversee RCCG’s 28 regions in Nigeria, was one of the seven senior pastors promoted Assistant General Overseers and members of the Governing Council, during the 2016 convention of the church last August.

Pastor Obayemi was a deputy in charge of Finance and a member of governing council in RCCG, before his appointment as the new Country/national Overseer of the church.

RCCG, with 14 parishes before Pastor Adeboye’s entrance, has grown to become one of Nigeria’s biggest with branches in 192 countries.

According to the PRO, the church may not have so designated them but most pastors overseas are actually regarded as country overseers, who act as liaison between the church and their host countries.

With the sack of Obazee and the dissolution of the FRCN Board, President Muhammadu Buhari may have temporarily saved the jobs of many prominent Pentecostal church leaders who have since passed the 20-year threshold.

Among them are Pastor William Kumuyi, who has spent 43 years as the General Suerintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry; Bishop Mike Okonkwo of the Redeemed Evangelical Mission (35 years); Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel’s Bishop David Oyedepo (35 yeas;) Dr. Daniel Olukoya of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (22); Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor of Word of Life Bible Church (29 years); Rev. Chris Okotie of the Household of God (29 years); Kingsway International Christian Centre’s Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo (24 years);.

Others are Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of Believers’ LoveWord International, alias Christ Embassy (26 years); Pastor Sam Adeyemi of Daystar Christian Centre (21 years); Pastor Tunde Bakare of Latter Rain Assembly (27 years); House on the Rock’s Pastor Paul Adefarasin (22 years) among others.

Pastor Adeboye Blasts Buhari Over Anti-Christian Laws, Vows To Fight Back In 2019

Pastor Adeboye Blasts Buhari Over Anti-Christian Laws, Vows To Fight Back In 2019

Pastor Adeboye Blasts Buhari Over Anti-Christian Laws, Vows To Fight Back In 2019
General Overseer (Worldwide) of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has warned the Federal Government to stop meddling in church matters.

Adeboye, who spoke yesterday at the Redemption Camp, Kilometre 46, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, expressed worries over deliberate anti-Christian laws by the Federal Government against Christians.

“The government has been showing increasing interest in church affairs. Unfortunately, for us in RCCG, it might not be very helpful,” Adeboye said.

He accused the government of not allowing the church (RCCG) to continue with its stipulated lifetime 100 per cent salaries to its pensioners.

“For example, when I decided on what will be the pension of our pastors, what I decided is not done anywhere in the world. That somebody will retire and continue to earn full salaries all his lifetime.

“This, I started, but government stepped in and made a law that we should be contributing to pension fund.

“We have to obey and we started doing that. The result is that pastors don’t get as much as they were getting under our own previous arrangement. But, what can we do? We have to obey the law,” he disclosed.

Adeboye disclosed that other fresh laws had been enacted by the government to ruffle the feathers of the church in the country, with a particularly targeted at the RCCG.

Adeboye also urged members of RCCG to register as card-carrying members of political parties ahead 2019 general elections.

His words: “Now there are fresh laws. We have a rough idea of what the law is about.

“Some people believe that RCCG is becoming too influential and we’re going to be more influential. When you get home, tell members to join a political party.

“Join a party and become a card-carrying member of any party. Just join any party. We shall decide issues right from the ward level.

“If you are not active at ward level, you’ll do what they plan and say at the top. Enrol in any party of your choice and have a card. When holding meetings at ward level to choose delegates, be there.”

“One Muslim in Ibadan said years ago that he didn’t know what’s wrong with Christians; that we help them to occupy political positions and refused to capitalise on our population. That’s going to change from now,” Adeboye stated.

What I Did That Angered Late Abacha And How God Saved Me From His Hit Men - Pastor Adeboye

What I Did That Angered Late Abacha And How God Saved Me From His Hit Men - Pastor Adeboye
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said that God delivered him from the claws of former military Head of State, late General Sani Abacha without any human intervention.

Speaking in the early hours of Saturday during the annual Holy Ghost Congress 2016 of the church tagged ‘Complete Restoration’, Adeboye, who chose not to directly mentioned the name of the former military ruler, narrated how the late Head of State made plans to arrest him in the wake of his (Abacha’s), planned translation from military ruler to a civilian leader in 1997.

Addressing the congregation, which include the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and Governors Akinwunmi Ambode and Olusegun Mimiko of Lagos and Ondo states respectively, the clergyman said the encounter is an example of victory without a physical fight.

He said: “When you read 2 Chronicles 20:1-25, you will see the example of victory without a fight in the life of Jehoshaphat. “You will remember those of you, who know the details; Nigeria was living under a siege at a particular time.

There was a reign of terror by a military president who wanted to transform to a civilian president. “In the process of trying to realize his ambition, his herbalist told him that this plan cannot come to pass because of a certain man who is praying at a place called Camp and that unless you remove that many your plan won’t work.

“And so information came to me that they are coming for me and in those days when they come for you that is the end of the story.”

Narrating further, he said: “As an ordinary human being when I heard that I was troubled. I didn’t tell my wife but I stepped out for my prayer walk but it wasn’t an ordinary prayer walk that day.”
