Group wants Fayose removed to answer Charges on Arms Allegations.

Group wants Fayose removed to answer Charges on Arms Allegations.

AYODELE FAYOSE
An anti-corruption group, the Coalition for Good Governance and Anti-Corruption has called on the National Assembly to immediately invoke the doctrine of neccessity that will necessitate the removal and subsequent prosecution of Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose over what it described as abuse of office.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja, National Secretary of the Coalition, Comrade Audu Joseph said it has become to remove the governor over several allegations of corruption and criminal conducts surrounding the governor.

Joseph said failure to impeach Fayose within or after 14 days will draw mass protest from Nigerians. He said the coalition has the mandate of 34 Civil Society organizations that are on standby to mobilize not just their members but also Nigerians from all walks of life if the government continues to pander to Fayose's antics as opposed to heeding the calls by Nigerians.

He said the Coalition would ordinarily have asked the Ekiti State House of Assembly to begin impeachment proceedings against Fayose for gross violation and breach of the constitution but realised that all its members without exception are compromised and intimidated to an extent that they cannot even properly treat the state's budget before passage.

He said, "This is proof that the Ekiti State House of Assembly can no longer perform its functions and the National Assembly should consider taking over those functions to ensure that the needful is done.

He said further, "To the National Assembly, we demand that a declaration of the doctrine of necessity to waive Fayose's immunity is non-negotiable at this point such that people enjoying immunity can be allowed to answer to criminal charges like the current situation where security funds were embezzled and millions of Nigerians including the armed forces had to pay the supreme price."

Speaking further, he said: "In the last quarter of 2016 details emerged of how N4.7 billion naira being part of the stolen $2.1 billion meant for arms purchase found its way into Ayo Fayose's Zenith bank account after the money was ferried across the country in a private jet and bullion vans, according to Obanikoro's testimony after he turned himself in to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

"Just a few days ago on December 29, 2016 another audio surfaced of Fayose with his partner in crime, Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, in which both men discussed without remorse about how they compromised  the December 10 legislative elections re-run in Rivers state. Not once did either of them acknowledged the magnitude of the crime committed, which included the murder of some policemen in addition to the now habitual sabotaging of the wishes of the electorates."

N108m IDP Fraud: Senate Sanctions Buhari's SGF, Babachir's SACK, Threatens The President They Would Shut Down Nigeria If...

Following the involvement of the SGF, Babachir Lawal, in N108 million contractS scam at the IDPs in the Northeast, the Senate had in its resolution on Wednesday, urged the SGF to eat the humble pie and resign his appointment.

The Senate threatened that it would shut down the nation, if for any reason, the executive fails to effect its resolution of removing Babachir.

The development followed a point of order raised by Senator Baba Kaka Garbai, stressing that the velocity of SGF’s action is a clear breach of the oath of office he took.

He said, “Mr Senate President, distinguished colleagues, it should reflect in Senate’s resolutions that the SSG, Babachir Lawal should resign because he has breached his oath of office,” he said.

The motion which was sustained by a voice vote also added that the Senate would protest and shut down the nation if the executive takes its resolution for granted.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki explained that the current Senate has nothing to hide, hence will not cover any public official who is involved in contract scam.

He was optimistic that Buhari-led administration would not take the issue for granted in the interest of the nation.

” My distinguished colleagues, it should be clear to everyone now that the 8th Senate would not cover any corrupt government functionary and I hope our resolution will not be taken for granted,” he maintained.

Tinubu, A Respected Leader, Can't Speak Bad Of Him - Oyegun Breaks Silence Over Resignation Call

Tinubu, A Respected Leader, Can't Speak Bad Of Him - Oyegun Breaks Silence Over Resignation Call

Oyegun and tinubu
The national chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has finally broken silence over call be by a former Lagos State Governor and the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign over the raging crisis that followed Ondo gubernatorial primary election.

Tinubu had, in a statement on Sunday, accused the national chairman of allegedly working against the ideals of the APC in the handling of its governorship primary in Ondo State.

He had alleged that the National Working Committee of the APC had voted in favour of a fresh primary in Ondo State but Odigie-Oyegun overruled the NWC and submitted the name of Rotimi Akeredolu to the Independent National Electoral Commission as the governorship candidate of the APC.

The statement added, “If Tinubu is to choose between John (Odigie-) Oyegun and progress toward a better Nigeria, the choice has already been made. For those who care about Nigeria and its chance for a better tomorrow, now is the time to stand against this brewing evil before it grows to encompass all we have built and all we hold dear.”

But Odigie-Oyegun, who spoke on Monday in Benin, said Tinubu, a former Lagos State governor, was a respected leader in the party, adding that he would have to consult with other party leaders before making a statement.

He, however, said “most” of the allegations in the media report were “not true,” noting that the party would focus on the September 28 governorship election in Edo State, which he said was his “priority”.

He said, “Asiwaju is a well respected leader of our party; so, I cannot be seen speaking evil against him. I have to consult properly with other leaders of the party before we make any definite statement. Again, you know we have a crucial election here in Edo, which is my priority right now.

“We do not want to lose focus and I know Asiwaju also wants us to win because we all have worked hard for this. So, maybe, after the election, if there is need, I will speak. If (there is) no need, I will relax. But all I can say now is that most of the things said in the papers about me are not true.”

Odigie-Oyegun stated that he had always believed in internal democracy and the credibility of primaries, which must be taken seriously.

The former Edo State governor added, “I believe that if primaries of parties are not credible, it may derail any democracy.  So, I do not play with these things at all. Everybody knows me and I do not joke with my credibility and I have tried to maintain it.’’

“But maybe after Edo election, after we must have emerged victorious, we may speak on some of the issues raised. So, there is no problem at all.”

It was learnt that Odigie-Oyegun came under serious pressure on Monday not to respond to Tinubu’s call on him to resign as the APC national chairman.

The outburst of Tinubu was said to have confirmed the internal wrangling in the ruling party.

However, Odigie-Oyegun, who was said to have been seriously jolted by Tinubu’s accusation, was said to have been prevailed on by some ministers and governors from the APC not to respond to Tinubu’s attack.

A minister, who spoke on condition of anonymity with The PUNCH in Abuja, said he, along with some of his colleagues, had called the party chairman not to speak.

He said while it was true that the former governor of Lagos State had every reason to be embittered, allowing the party chairman to respond would further portray the ruling party as uncoordinated.

The top party chief stated, “Though it is painful when you are accused of something and you feel you needed to reply, but we have told him to keep quiet because we don’t want the opposition and the media to feast on it.

“The matter is being looked into and I think the leaders of the party, especially President Muhammadu Buhari, must act fast, otherwise, the party will die under his Presidency.”

Mohammed Audu, the eldest son of the former and late governor of Kogi State, Abubakar Audu has been charged with armed robbery on Thursday at magistrate court, in Kogi

Mohammed was the was last year picked by Mr. James Faleke as his Deputy Governor when his father died on the day of the election in Kogi State.

According to Punch Newspaper, Mohammed was arrested on Wednesday night when he honoured the invitation of the men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad at the “A” Division Office of the Nigeria Police Force in Lokoja and he was subsequently detained.

The police charged him to court on Thursday.

Apart from armed robbery, other charges in the First Information Report filed by the police against Mohammed were criminal conspiracy, causing mischief and grievous hurt as well as attempted culpable homicide, all contrary to sections 97 (1), 248, 327, 298 and 229 of the Penal Code.

In the said FIR, Mohammed’s uncle, Alhaji Yahaya Audu, who was the complainant in the case, alleged that he was attacked by some hoodlums in his home at Ogbonicha on August 30.

Yahaya said it was by sheer miracle that he escaped from his assailants, who, he said, were shooting sporadically during the attack.

The police prosecutor, Mr. Otowu Gabriel, told the court that though investigation into the matter was still ongoing, findings by the police linked Mohammed and others still at large with Yahaya’s attack.

The lead defence counsel, Mr. Okechukwu Ajunwa, however, contended that there was nothing in the charge that linked his client to the attack.

Ajuwa urged the court to admit his client to bail in line with the provision of Section 36 (5) of the constitution, and in view of the fact that the police were still investigating the case.

He assured the court that his client would neither abscond nor interfere with police investigation if granted bail.

He said his client was a prominent member of the society, who had no reason to abscond, pointing out that Mohammed was not arrested but he voluntarily went to the police station to honour their invitation.

In his response, the prosecutor said he did not wish to oppose the bail application but would allow the court to use its discretion.

After listening to the parties, the Chief Magistrate, Alhassan Hussain, admitted Mohammed to bail, with a directive that he must make himself available for every court session.

The court adjourned till September 29, 2016 for further proceedings in the matter.
