2019: I Didn't Beg To Be Buhari's VP - Angry Osinbajo Threatens To Resign
News Proof 17.5.18 No comments Edit Post
By Dansu Peter
In a statement that could be described as a threat to resign his position as the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday night said he would rather vacate his office as the nation’s Number Two man than compromise his Christian faith.
The Vice President had gone to Benue State and had a meeting with the Christian leaders and other stakeholders. The visit, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has described as a desperation to remain as the running mate to President Muhammadu Buhari at all cost by 2019.
Osinbajo stated this while responding to posers raised by some Christian leaders at the stakeholders’ meeting held at the new Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House, Makurdi.
The Vice President said under no circumstances would he give up his faith but would rather vacate his position as the nation’s Vice-President at the slightest attempt to cause him to abandon his Christian virtues.
One of the speakers, the Catholic Bishop of Gboko, His Lordship, Williams Avenya, had reminded Osinbajo of the then-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign promises that he would not Islamise the country and would protect the interest of all Nigerians including citizens of minority ethnic groups if voted into power.
Quoting Buhari, the bishop said, “My deputy is a Christian and there is no way I will Islamise Nigeria with many Christians in my team.”
Avenya noted that the killing of Christians and members of the minority ethnic group particularly in Benue State had proved that the Federal Government under Buhari was not living up to these promises.
Facing Osinbajo, the bishop said, “The point I’m trying to make is that a day is going to come when you, as the Vice-President, will bear the brunt of that problem of injustices in our land, especially those perpetrated on smaller ethnic groups that have no one to fight for them.
“So, as a Christian person, exonerate yourself from this situation,” the bishop advised the VP.
Responding, the vice-president said, “My Lord Bishop, you said you are not a politician, I am also not a politician. As a matter of fact, I’m also a priest and I’m a Christian, a born again Christian. Because I’m a born again Christian, my destiny is not determined by any man but by God who I serve.
“Let me assure you that under no circumstances, none whatsoever, will I give up my faith or refuse to stand up for my faith.
“You can take that to the bank. Even the position that I currently occupy, I did not ask for it and I’m prepared to leave it at a short notice.
“It doesn’t mean anything. I became a born again Christian after I became a professor, a professor of the law of evidence, a professor of proof.
“But when the Lord Jesus Christ met me, He persuaded me by showing me clearly that there is such a thing as the evidence of things that are not seen.
“It is because of the evidence of things that are not seen, it is because you can make something out of nothing that I stand here today as Vice-President.
“How possible can anyone say that the killing of women and children doesn’t matter because he is Vice-President or because he is President? How is that possible? Certainly, it cannot be for a person who is born again. A renewed mind will know that there is justice, there is consequence even if there is no justice here on earth.”
The Vice-President, while reacting to the issue raised by another speaker, Dr. Magdalene Dura, that the invasion of the state was an ethnic agenda, said no one would deliberately kill his own people.
“I do not accept and I do not believe that there is an agenda. No one will deliberately kill his own people. No one will do so. But we cannot bring back the dead but we can make life more bearable for the living.
“This is why coming here today at the behest of the President is first, to look at the situation myself, to get a first-hand view of the situation because the President has mandated me to take this on board and deal with the issues,” Osinbajo added.
In his remark, Governor Samuel Ortom appealed to the Federal Government to ensure that peace reign in his state.
The governor said that the killing of the two Catholic priests and 17 parishioners could have caused a religious crisis but for the prompt action of his administration.
He appreciated the Federal Government for deploying more troops to the state as well as releasing funds for control of flood in the state.
Bamaiyi Implicates VP Osinbajo In N10m Bribe Saga; Presidency Sparks, Replies Bamaiyi
News Proof 7.4.17 No comments Edit Post
The Presidency has denied the involvement of the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo in a N10m bribe as claimed by former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Ishaya Bamaiyi(rtd).
Bamaiyi, in his book, “The Vindication of A General” alleged that Osinbanjo was directed to convict him and others within six months during the time, he, Osinbajo was Lagos State Attorney- General.
The former Army claims that Osinbajo shielded the then trial judge, Justice Ade Alabi, whom he accused of demanding a N10 million bribe from him.
However, the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice-President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, described Bamaiyi’s claims as blatant lies.
In a statement, Akande said Osinbajo was never called to Abuja or given any form of instruction on how to resolve the case.
According to Akande, “ My attention has been drawn to claims made by General Bamaiyi in his book Vindication of a General, where he alleged that the then Attorney-General of Lagos State, Osinbajo, the trial judge, (in the criminal case of his “involvement” in the shooting of Alex Ibru) Justice Ade Alabi and the State Police Commissioner were called to Abuja and “directed to convict us at all costs within six months.”
“That Justice Ade Alabi asked for a N10m bribe through “one Mr. Martin” to facilitate his bail application in the case, and that the National Judicial Council panel composed to investigate the bribery allegation, protected the Judge.
“Specifically that Prof. Osinbajo “brought what he said was the panel report during one of the motions. Unfortunately, pages one through twenty-nine of the report were not produced.”While the Vice President, Osinbajo would take more comprehensive steps to address the evil insinuations made by the retired General, I have confirmed from him, i.e. Prof. Osinbajo, that he was never called to Abuja or at any time given any instructions on how to resolve the case. This blatant lie arose only from the fertile imagination of the author.
“Equally, the shifty recollections of the retired General about Prof. Osinbajo bringing a panel report with pages missing is as ludicrous as it is incongruous. For instance, is the author saying the then Lagos State Attorney-General was responsible for the NJC panel report? That would be incredible and clearly a mischievous proposition.”
Akande stated that Bamaiyi’s counsel, Mike Okoy, who argued the bail application for the former Army Chief had confessed in open court and in several newspaper public notices as ordered by Court that he lied against Justice Alabi.
“Okoye actually had to read his confession and apology in the open court in a case that involved such prominent lawyers like Chief F.R.A Williams, who in particular pressed that Okoye be held fully responsible for his wild accusations.
“It is incredible that after all of this, the author went on to mislead the public. What impudence!” the presidency stated,” Akande added.
Read Bamaiyi’s allegation below…
His words: “We were in prison until we were taken to court in Lagos on December 22, 1999 to face Justice Alabi, who was said to have been called to Abuja with the Attorney-General and Lagos State Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Osinbajo.
“They were said to have been directed to convict us at all costs within six months. Unknown to our persecutors, we had a lot of sympathy within the Presidency, the Police, and the DSS.
“As such, whatever instructions were passed to them got to us within a short while. I applied for bail even though I knew it would not be granted. After the argument by my counsel and the counter-argument by the state, led by the A-G, the case was adjourned without a date for ruling on my bail application.
“After some days, one Mr. Martins came to prison to visit Al Mustapha, who came and told me that he had been sent by Justice Ade Alabi to discuss my bail issue. He told me the judge was ready to grant me bail if I would give him N10 million.
“We discussed this with Al Mustapha and I expressed my fears regarding Mr. Martin’s message. We told Mr. Martins to prove that Justice Alabi had really sent him.
“He left, but after about two weeks, he came back and told us that when next we went to court, the trial judge would give us two months for the ruling on the bail application. This would be his proof that the judge had sent him.
“He said the judge was aware we were in prison and needed time to get money. At our next court appearance, the judge adjourned for two months. This proved to us that Mr. Martins was genuine.
“I informed my counsel, Mr. Mike Okoye, who argued the bail application. He said we should think about it and that he would try to find out the matter. We waited until I decided that I would give nobody any money.
“One day in court, Al Mustapha got fed up and challenged the judge. At the next court date, I asked the judge for permission to speak. He initially hesitated but changed his mind. I believe he thought I was going to apologize for Al Mustapha’s action during the previous hearing.
“I started by saying, ‘I have respect for the rule of law and the judiciary. I also have respect for this court.’ This made the judge relax. I quickly added, ‘But a situation where the judge sends people to collect money from accused persons is unacceptable. You know what I am talking about.’
“The judge ordered me to sit down. I did because I had said what I had wanted to say. Afterwards, we petitioned the National Judicial Council, NJC, against Justice Alabi. He wanted to continue with the case against the advice of lawyers and some judges. Eventually, he was forced to return the case file to the administrative judge.
“The NJC then decided to investigate our allegation. On March 25 to 27, at the Kirikiri Magistrate Court, the panel, headed by a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, started hearing our petition. Unknown to us, the panel had decided to protect Justice Alabi who was working for the government.
“The panel was made up of Justice B.O. Babalakin (Chairman); Amb. M.L. Sambo (member) and T.J. Onomigbo Okpoko, SAN (member). “Justice Ade Alabi brought in Chief Afe Babalola, SAN as lead counsel and he came with Chief Ladi Williams, SAN, Prof. G.A Olawotin, SAN; Kola Awioderin, SAN, Ikenwa Okoli, Gboyega Oyewole, Adebayo Aderipekun. Justice Alabi was docked and examined by Chief Afe Babalola who led him in evidence. He was then cross-examined by Y.C. Maikyau, Bala Ibn Na’Allah and Jingi.
“They succeeded in stopping members of the press from covering theses proceedings. Later we got to know why the press was barred from the panel. The panel report was full of lies. The panel report stated that Justice Alabi was not docked and was not cross-examined by our counsel. I only hope Afe Babalola did not see that panel report. These are clear lies, as Justice Alabi was docked and cross-examined.
“Prof. Osinbajo brought what he said was the panel report during one of the motions. Unfortunately, pages one through 29 of the report were not produced. This was very clear because we, the petitioners, gave evidence and Justice Alabi was examined and cross-examined.
“I believe the missing pages contained our statements and the examination and cross-examination of Justice Alabi by our counsels. I believe these actions are understandable because Justice Ade Alabi was given an assignment to carry out injustice and he had to be protected by those who had given him the assignment.
“We were disappointed with the former Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Babalakin, who disrespected himself and let down all justices of the Supreme Court. Even in retirement, they should be honourable.
“I am looking forward to the day we see the complete report of the panel and the statements made by those who gave evidence. We also hope the investigation of the death of Mr. Martins under suspicious circumstances will be made available one day.”
Dr. Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, the Head of Department, Mass Communication, Delta State University, Abraka has declared that Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo is “not a Nigerian”.
He said he came to the conclusion after watching Osinbajo in Benin City, on TV live, during his fact finding meeting with the people of Edo State.
Ufuophu-Biri, in an article on Tuesday, said “I realised that he is totally not a Nigerian. He listened to all speakers with rapt attention and concentrated interest. One could see him practically and personally experiencing the pains of the abandoned and raped people of the Niger Delta.
“Even when there was a mini riot in the hall he remained calm and probably prayerful as an ordained man of God. If the mild drama of mini riot that played out in the hall had happened in a situation where even a local government chairman was in charge, the chairman would have ordered the security men to shoot at sight.
“If the person in charge was a state governor or a President, he would have ordered a massive arrest and inglorious shot at perception and at sight, but the learned and erudite scholar and legal luminary of international acclaim did not do any of that.
“Rather when he responded he said he equally shared the grievance of the aggrieved Niger Delta people. This is un-Nigerian.
“For a leader to share in the pains of the people and not to deal with them for daring to engage in mini riot in his presence shows that the goddess of pride, the delusion grandeur and megalomania tendency usually associated with the average Nigerian leader at virtually all levels are not in the Acting President.
“For him to order all the oil companies to move their headquarters to the Niger Delta is a wonderful act of justice and healing of the age long injury inflicted on the Niger Delta people.
“That he visited the Niger Delta states differently and interacted directly with the people and even visited the creeks to personally access the horrible situation is worth more than commendation.
“No Nigerian leader at his level has acted like this. This is the reason I doubt if Acting President Yemi Osibanjo, SAN, is a Nigerian. Probably he is a Moses in the making to the Niger Delta people.”
Buhari's 35 Minutes Call Disrupts Osinbajo Peace Meeting In Edo, Aggrived Youths Too
News Proof 7.3.17 No comments Edit Post
The president Muhammadu Buhari’s telephone call disrupted Osinbajo’s meeting with Niger Delta stakeholders for about 35 minutes.
Osinbajo was in Edo, as part of his tour of the Niger Delta.
Details of the telephone conversation between Buhari and Osinbajo were, however, not made public.
Meanwhile, the acting president has ordered contractors handling projects awarded by the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to return to site and complete their projects or face sanctions.
Osinbajo gave the marching order during a stakeholders’ meeting held at Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia College, Benin, when he visited the state yesterday.
He said an audit body would be set up to look into the contracts awarded by the commission and the monies spent on the projects with a view of bringing the overall spendings before the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for necessary action.
The acting president assured Nigerians that the Federal Government’s new era and vision, aimed at developing the oil-bearing communities and other areas will boost development, unity and peaceful co-existence of all segments of the country.
He noted how people in oil-bearing communities and other key productive sectors of the economy across the country have suffered untold neglect and development due to the insensitivity, stealing spree and corrupt activities of leaders and politicians entrusted with positions of trust.
Regardless, aggrieved elders, leaders and youths from oil and gas-producing community and other Ijaw communities of the state staged a protest, midway into the discussions, over failure of the organisers to allow them make presentations at the event.
They vowed to make oil prospecting activities hard for multinational firms if their communities are not given due attention in the scheme of things and failure of the acting president’s team to visit the oil-bearing communities “to see things the way they are.”
It took the intervention of key stakeholders and Governor Godwin Obaseki, his deputy, Philip Shuaibu and pleas from the acting president to douse the tension.
Dispelling fears of any form of insecurity and violence among communities in the state, Osinbajo said as an “emissary of president Buhari, the visit was aimed at engaging the people and the leadership to seek for better understanding as well as offer the oil communities a new vision and a new compass.”
He said the story of devastation remains the same across the country as farmers and fishing communities daily miss their means of livelihood while many were deprived in the process.
“We are committed to every one of the things we say we want to do; it does not make sense for leadership to look away at the plight of the people, especially in the oil-producing areas. This is the source of the wealth of the nation and to ignore the people, even if it is for a while; the time will come when you can no longer ignore them. So, there is no question at all that we are committed to doing what we said we would do and that is a pledge coming directly from Mr. President himself.”
On his part, governor Obaseki disclosed the state has 38 oil communities and 205 flowing oil wells.
He said just like other oil-producing communities in the Niger Delta, Edo oil communities have had their share of neglect, and added that several projects embarked upon by the federal government in the areas have yielded no results, due to corruption and ineptitude and lack of capacity.
Obaseki said the youths have a strong feeling of deprivation and marginalisation which was why they expressed themselves earlier in the programme.
Southern Kaduna Killings: At Last, Ag. President Osinbajo Wakes Up From Slumber, Orders IGP To Report At Aso Rock
News Proof 26.2.17 No comments Edit Post
He was accused of 'un-golden silence' by the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN over alleged killing of Christians in Southern Kaduna, Kaduna State; the Acting President may have woken up from slumber as he has summoned the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to Aso Rock as there is resurgence of violence in the area,
This followed additional security measures, including the deployment of 15,285 policemen, put in place by the Nigeria Police Force in Southern Kaduna.
According to Punch Newspaper, the acting president demanded an explanation over the recent resurgence of violence that resulted in the deaths of 21 persons, despite the security measures and level of attention to the area.
It was learnt that Osinbajo invited the IGP to the Presidential Villa to find out what the police was doing to end the crisis and to issue further directives on restoring law and order to the affected communities.
Our Source gathered that the outcome of the meeting with the acting president was the decision to intensify security with additional measures that would help contain the situation.
Besides deploying over 15,000 police officers in the area, it was also learnt that the Police High Command had concluded arrangements for the establishment of a new police squadron in Kafanchan, Kaduna, as part of broad measures adopted to curb the violence.
It was further gathered that 18 Armoured Personnel Carriers and a unit of Belarus-trained Police Special Forces had been deployed in Southern Kaduna.

Things Osinbajo Have Done To Move Nigeria Forward In One Month Which Buhari Failed To Do For 2yrs - Dele Momodu
News Proof 25.2.17 No comments Edit Post
The publisher of Ovation International, Dele Momodu, has said that Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, is effecting positive and noticeable changes in Nigeria, a feat his principal, Muhammadu Buhari failed to achieve while in the country.
Buhari handed over to Osinbajo on January 19 before proceeding to the UK on a medical vacation .
Since that time, the Acting President has been to several states in the Niger Delta and this week, stopped by the Muritala Muhammed International Airport on an impromptu visit .
The Naira has also appreciated greatly against the US dollar.
In his latest article published on Saturday, titled “Before President Buhari returns home,” Momodu praised the work done so far by Osinbajo and asked Buhari to continue when he is back.
“The good news is that the Acting President has started doing some of the things we expected and advised President Buhari to do. I do not want to over-excite anyone yet but this is smelling good, like the Americans would put it. We must enter special prayers and intercede with serious fasting so that President Buhari can continue along this path of progress when he returns to office, hopefully very shortly, by the grace of God
“I had suggested in my memos to him that what he was looking for in Sokoto (the city) is actually in his sokoto (pocket). He has got a powerful joker in the pack and that is his Vice President. Professor Osinbajo is not your typical politician. He is a technocrat with the diligence, astuteness, and thoroughness of the smart lawyer that he is. He has a passion for Nigeria and its great development that is uncanny and worthy of emulation,” he wrote.
Momodu added: “Professor Osinbajo is re-navigating the country in the right direction and should be encouraged to do more by President Buhari. If a man discovers a snake and a woman kills it, it doesn’t matter who did what. The glory ultimately goes to President Buhari for having the wisdom of entrusting Nigeria to such a loyal and dependable ally. Baba should ignore the demons of power who may wish to drive a wedge between them. Any parent or sibling would be proud of a child making the family great. This is what Osinbajo is doing and he should be commended and applauded for it.”
