SUPPORTERS CLUB SET TO STORM RIO... cautions Dalung on interference in its affairs

SUPPORTERS CLUB SET TO STORM RIO... cautions Dalung on interference in its affairs

By Akeem Busari.

The Nigeria Football Supporters Club have concluded plans to storm Rio, Brazil, in large numbers for the ongoing Olympic games. This disclosure was made weekend by the Secretary - General of the NFSC, Rev. Sam lkpea.

According to him, the club will storm the games with all the glitz and glamour associated with it.

"We have concluded arrangement for our members to storm Brazil and do what we are renowned for and that's cheering our teams and athletes to victory at the games, "he said.

He was also quick to state categorically that the recent crisis in the club would not stop the club from carrying out its avowed duties to Nigerian sports. While also describing the crisis in the club as a mutiny attempted by dissidents that have been effectively crushed.

"We remain focused and undaunted in our duties to help Nigerian sports and athletes in general. The recent crisis in the club which was caused by the impeached acting national chairman, Vincent Okumagba, has been effectively crushed.

"This club has existed for several decades in peace and unity. And we have resolved not to allow any power hungry, greedy and selfish individual or group to destroy the enviable legacies of the founding fathers of the club, "Ikpea stated.

He went ahead to admonish the NFF and in particular, the Minister of Sports, to steer away from the affairs of the club. Stating that the club is a non-governmental organisation and not a government parastatal, as it is led independently by its own guidelines.

"We will not tolerate any interference or infiltrations in the club. With due respect to the office of the Minister of Sports, l want to advise him to steer away from the internal matters of the club.

"The Minister should be wary also of the activities of his office, as a suspended member of the club, Kemi Popoola, who was recently arrested by the Interpol on allegations of forgery and fraudulent acts, had stated that she was equally given a list of names by the office of the Minister, as well as the NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, for procurement of travelling visas to Brazil.

"The Nigeria Football Supporters Club ably led by Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, is a global brand. And it is made up of distinguished and honourable individuals who have excelled in their various fields of endeavours.

"And for decades, we have selflessly dedicated our energies and resources to the development of sports in Nigeria. Therefore, we shall not allow any person or group to destroy the age-long enviable image of the club and the country, "the soft spoken scribe said emphatically.

We're Nigeria's 12th Player - Ikpea

We're Nigeria's 12th Player - Ikpea

Written By Akeem Busari

The Nigeria Football Supporters Club, has reiterated its importance to Nigerian football and its successes in the game.

Rev. Sam lkpea, Secretary - General of the NFSC, made this remark during an exclusive interview held in his office. According to the vastly experienced scribe, members of the supporters club often go spiritual before and during matches played by the country's national teams.

"You won't believe what most of us go through whenever the Super Eagles or any other of the country's national team are up against any opposition both home and abroad, "Ikpea said.

" For the sake of our national teams, we often go on compulsory fasting and prayers in order to ensure our teams are victorious, "he added.

He recalled also how members of the NFSC would go through harrowing experiences in the hands of overzealous security personnel and fans in foreign countries.

" We have experienced some very bad and dangerous moments in the course of going out to support our fatherland.

"These unfortunate experiences are too many to recollect, "he continued with a dour glint in his eyes."

" I remember how we were made to suffer in terrible cold outside the stadium in Tunisia, when Enyimba won the CAF Champions League. We were of course, undaunted and remained resolute in our mission. Thank God, because we triumphed and the pain and sufferings weren't for nothing, " he added with smiles.

The high ratings enjoyed by the NFSC globally, Ikpea stated is a result of the tireless and inspirational leadership of Dr.Rafiu Ladipo, the President-General of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club worldwide.

" The successes and achievements recorded by Nigerian football and of course, the NFSC have enjoyed immense contributions by Dr.Ladipo, "Ikpea stated emphatically.

" l can vividly remember how far he had gone in ensuring that we keep moving on in spite of serious challenges to our finances and personal lives, all because of the love and passion for football," he quipped ruefully.

The businessman cum sports philantropist went ahead to berate the government for not recognising genuine and patriotic Nigerians who have contributed meaningfully to the socio-economic growth of the country.

"lt is a shame that a prominent Nigerian in the person of Dr.Rafiu Ladipo, is yet to be officially recognised and given a national award by the past and present government in this country.

"This is a man who has tiredlessly ensured that Nigeria football is known and supported all over the world, while spending his money, energy and time for the sake of his fatherland, "he lamented.

On the infectious and ceaseless dancing and singing that has become synonymous with the supporters club, he remarked gleefully that it is sometimes a spontaneous reaction to unfolding events on the field of play.
" Let me tell you, some of those songs are spontaneous and you could say spiritual, too.

"For instance, when we start singing.. 'He is a miracle working God.. He is the Alpha and Omega..', you would know something important is about to happen. And God has never failed us when we come up with that song, "he explained with broad smiles on his face.

Conclusively, he disclosed that the NFSC are working seriously to ensure that Nigerian teams and infact the whole contigent representing the country at the forthcoming Rio 2016 Olympic Games, are well supported.

SUPPORTERS CLUB SEEK INCLUSION IN NFF RECONCILIATION C'MTTEE

SUPPORTERS CLUB SEEK INCLUSION IN NFF RECONCILIATION C'MTTEE

By Akeem Busari.

The Nigeria Football Supporters Club have made a strong appeal to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalong, to include the club in the newly constituted committee set up to look into the unending crisis rocking the Nigeria Football Federation.

The Secretary - General of the NFSC, Rev. Sam lkpea, made this passionate appeal during an exclusive interview in his office. He stated that the committee set up by the minister is incomplete because the major stake holders, particularly, the supporters club are not represented on the committee.

"We (supporters club) feel short changed because the minister and the football authorities have consistently over looked us, particularly, when it comes to taking important decisions on the state of Nigerian football, "Ikpea lamented.

He continued:" We are genuine stakeholders in the fortunes of Nigerian football. It is a fact that some of us have have consistently been following and supporting Nigerian football for more than four decades and of course, expending time, energy and resources in the cause.

"As a matter of fact, we have top class, experienced and well educated members in the NFSC, who can serve on such and other bodies meritoriously," the amiable scribe of the NFSC said.
