Buhari, APC Chieftains At War Over Boards Appointment; The President Is Selfish - An APC Exco

Ripples Nigeria - Chieftains and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are upbeat about the reluctance of President Muhammadu Buhari to make appointments into federal parastatals as well as Government Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs).

Few days to the first anniversary of the administration, the APC bigwigs are displeased that Buhari is yet to overhaul the parastatals and compensate loyal party members with appointments.

The situation, according to those who spoke with Ripples Nigeria under the condition of anonymity, is affecting morale among party members.

They claimed many of their supporters are restive they have not been compensated for the emergence of the current administration.

Buhari, on February 15, sacked 26 Directors-General of federal agencies and parastatals. Those affected include: Nigerian Television Authority (NTA); Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN); News Agency of Nigeria (NAN); National Broadcasting Commission (NBC); Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF); Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).

Others were: Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board(NCDMB); Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria(FMBN); Tertiary Education Trust Fund(TETFund); Petroleum Equalisation Fund(PET); Nigeria Railway Corporation(NRC); Bureau of Public Procurements(BPP) and others.
Over two months after, the hope of APC stalwarts that more heads of parastatals will go has been dashed.

The vacant posts have not been filled either, with the sacked DGs asked to hand over to the highest senior officials in their agencies.

The failure to replace sacked heads and reluctance to relieve more agencies of their leadership, which are handovers of the previous PDP government, are tearing party members apart.

Many of them said they have become agitated by the failure of Buhari to bring fresh hands on board.
One of them, a prominent party executive in the South West, confided: “We are just few days away from the first anniversary and we are still waiting, unsure of what lies before us.

“Many who worked for the success of the party at the state and federal levels have not been compensated or accommodated.

“There are still too many PDP members in places of authorities. One wonders if Buhari realises that APC members are angry with him.”

Another said: “Many of us spent resources and braved the odds to make sure this new administration came on board. But we have not received anything.

“In all democracies, you don’t support a ruling government during elections without getting anything in return. But it appears Buhari is only contented with himself in power. He seems not to care if others who worked for him and the party are taken care of.”

Another, a female from the North, said: “Not having our party members in offices is why this government is suffering. There are too many saboteurs in the system.

“The longer the President keeps them on board, the more damages they will cause him and the nation. The President needs to appease his party members first to win over the nation.”

Investigations revealed that Buhari is taking time to edge out the remaining Directors-General because of the current economic crunch.

A source in the presidency said: “The President is aware that bringing new persons on board will mean incurring higher costs such as accommodation allowance and utility bills. Once the economy rebounds, he will do the needful.”

It was also gathered that Buhari is wary of the wrangling among APC stalwarts over the spoils of office.

The President, it was learnt, is working out modalities on how to minimise the resultant scrambling for posts among party elders.

It was learnt that the President has secretly begun the process of considering who to put in the over 6,000 pending federal appointments.

A former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Maurice Iwu has been allegedly involved in the controversial N23.26 billion bribe for 2015 election result, the Ripples Nigeria says.

According to Ripples Nigeria,  the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have launched a manhunt for the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Maurice Iwu over complicity in the alleged N23.29b poll bribery scandal, Ripples Nigeria gathered.

A source at the EFCC, who confirmed this Thursday night, said Iwu reportedly facilitated the sharing of the slush funds, in which he also benefitted.

Ripples Nigeria gathered that the EFCC has been on his trail in the last two weeks but was said to be evading arrest.

A highly placed source said: “We have watch-listed the former INEC chief in the last two weeks but he has been evading arrest.

“Our operatives are still looking for him. So, we have launched a manhunt and put other security agencies on the alert.

“He is wanted in connection with the N23.29 poll bribery scam perpetrated by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke.”

Saraki's Camp In Disarray As Ekweremadu In Secret 'Coup' To Oust The Senate President, You'll Be Shocked At This Revelations

Saraki's Camp In Disarray As Ekweremadu In Secret 'Coup' To Oust The Senate President, You'll Be Shocked At This Revelations

Report according to Ripples Nigeria has it that what began as an innocuous award to Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on Tuesday has created serious unease in the camp of Dr. Bukola Saraki, incumbent leader of the Senate, who is currently facing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal for false declaration of assets.

The award, ‘Anti-corruption Ambassador,’ which is now mired in controversy was reportedly cooked for Mr. Ekweremadu by the Liaison Officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the National Assembly, Mr. Sulaiman Bakari. The agency has since denied the said staff, leaving the Deputy Senate President thoroughly embarrassed and feeling that he may have been scammed.

Sources close to Senator Saraki say that the anti-corruption crusader award bestowed on his deputy took his camp by surprise, coming at a time the Senate President’s integrity was being questioned both at the tribunal and in the Panama Paper leaks. Saraki’s loyalists are now querying the original intentions behind the Ekweremadu misadventure, a source confided in Ripples Nigeria.

What has emerged is that the Saraki and Ekweremadu camps are heading for an apparent showdown as mutual distrust sets in. The Saraki camp is alleging underground moves to unmake their principal via a ‘timed coup’.

The unease among the Saraki elements heightened on Wednesday when the Deputy Senate President emerged from a closed-door session of the Senate to announce that the upper legislative chamber was reversing some of its earlier decisions which had drawn the ire of Nigerians and made Saraki even more unpopular.

Among others, Ekweremadu said the Senate was suspending further debate on amendments proposed for the Code of Conduct Act which many believe was instigated by Saraki to extricate himself from the CCT trial.

He also announced that the Senate was standing down the suspension clamped on Senator Kabir Marafa, a known Saraki critic who wanted the Senate President sacked soon after he was elected.

He added that the Senate had also resolved that all members who had cases instituted in the courts against their colleagues should have same withdrawn, emphasizing that the Senate was now more united than before.

Finally, he said that Senators will stand by their embattled President all through the course of the trial at the CCT. While many at the Senate closed-door session cheered, reports say that die-hard Saraki loyalists were not amused and have since drawn a battle line.

Our source said, “We are surprised at the Deputy Senate President. We believe that the award was an orchestrated move to rubbish Dr. Saraki and position himself as a saint. We see through this charade, and are not impressed.

“We smell a dirty plot, a timed coup to stampede Oga out of office.

“We think Ekweremadu is in a hurry to be Senate President. They should allow the law to run its course. Dr. Saraki has said he would not resign and is ready to face trial. This set back is only temporary. We are confident he will prevail in the end”, he said.

Last week, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Odigie John Oyegun, sent the clearest signal till date of the party’s resolve to sack the troubled Senate President. He had given indications that the APC would spare nothing to oust Saraki.

Analysts believe that Ekweremadu’s succession plots may have been bolstered by Oyegun’s pronouncements.

One commentator told Ripples Nigeria, “The man has a right to aspire. There is a gap to be filled, and this has been made manifest by APC chieftains who have come out to say that they do not want Saraki anymore.

“Politicians are the same everywhere. They are all opportunists and would seize the moment if an opportunity presents itself. Ekweremadu cannot be an exception. He has been lying in wait for long.

“I think he is being edged on by permutations that the opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have a comfortable standing in the Red Chamber and only require a few disgruntled APC Senators to climb the throne”, he noted.

The apprehensions in Saraki camp, reports say, are the reason behind the latest plot by his legal team to cause further delays in his trial.
On Wednesday, the Agabi-led legal defence force got their principal to formally request that the CCT Chairman, Danladi Umar, quit the trial on grounds of alleged bias against Saraki. There are speculations that Saraki’s camp won’t take matters lying low and are preparing to unleash a media war against all perceived enemies, with Ekweremadu no exception.

Though no official words have come from either camp, the Deputy Senate President, it is gathered, has reached out to Saraki to reassure him that he means well. An inside source said, “Yes, he called to let him into all the goings-on in the Senate and all is well between the Senate President and his Deputy. He is privy to all that transpired.

“It is very clear that there is no love lost between the two. We will stand by our leader, no matter what,” he said.

EXPOSED: The 3 Minutes Call That Scuttled Sarak's Purchased Judgement From Justice Kafarati

EXPOSED: The 3 Minutes Call That Scuttled Sarak's Purchased Judgement From Justice Kafarati

Ripples Nigeria - A three-minute call from a top security official (name withheld) altered the direction of judgement passed by Justice Abdulkadiri Kafarati of a Federal High Court in Abuja on Senate President Bukola Saraki last Friday, Ripples can exclusively report.

It was learnt that Kafarati, who earlier withdrew from the case based on reports that he had been compromised, had already prepared a favourable ruling for Saraki.

It was gathered that the camp of the Senate President was already in a boisterous mood, fully confident that Saraki was going to get off the hook.

In anticipation of this, sources confirmed that at least 10 editors of major newspapers met with Saraki at his official residence around 1am on Friday for briefing on how to report the much-expected ruling.

Each of them reportedly pocketed N2.5million to engineer news reports that will paint the former Kwara governor in the best possible light.

They were reportedly told to present him as a victim of high-wired political intrigues with the expected ruling further proving his innocence.

Ripples learnt that everything appeared fixed until few minutes when the Judge was preparing to enter the courtroom to deliver the ruling.

A call, reportedly from a top-level security official, however proved to be the game changer.

The security goon, it was gathered, told Kafarati of available intelligence reports on his alleged deals with Saraki.

The Judge, it was further learnt, was told of the existence of his call logs with the Senate President during which they extensively discussed the case.

The mention of the call logs, according to the source, melted Kafarati’s defence.

It was gathered that the call from the security goon was more or less a subtle blackmail meant to ask the Judge to choose between his career and saving Saraki.

He was said to have indicated he was willing to cooperate with the federal government to stave off a disgraceful prosecution.

This, it was learnt, was why he called for a three-hour extension of the ruling earlier slated for 9am.
The source said: “After he had backed down, he had to ask for a three-hour break during which he had no choice but to prepare a fresh judgement.

“That was the judgement he eventually delivered against Saraki. If not for the call, the Senate President would have gotten a much-needed reprieve through the backdoors.”

Kafarati ruled that the case filed by Saraki to stop his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) constituted a gross abuse of court process.

He said the same case had also been taken to the Federal High Court, Lagos; Court of Appeal and even the Supreme Court, where decisions were made against him.

The Judge upheld the preliminary objection of the Federal Government to the case, saying there was no need to go into the substantive matter.

He went on to dismiss the fear of Saraki that he would not get justice at the CCT as speculative, misplaced and had no place in law.

He maintained the CCT is a competent tribunal which derives its powers from the CCT Act and it has the powers to try criminal matters

Kafarati ruled that the prayer, which the plaintiff said was politically motivated was sentimental, adding that sentiments had no basis in law.
