APC Picks Jonathan's Ex-Minister As New National Spokesman Today

Bolaji Abdullahi
A former Sports Minister under the former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Bolaji Abdullahi will today be formalised as the new spokesman of the ruling All progressives Congress, APC, at a mini-convention scheduled  to hold at Abuja for the purpose, barring last minute change.

It was gathered that a former Sports Minister, Bolaji Abdullahi, from Kwara State, was being tipped for the job.

News Punch had since October 25th published that the ex-minister has been picked to replace Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who had resigned from the position to take a ministerial appointment from President Muhammadu Buhari's Government.

Bolaji Abdullahi, an indigene of Kwara State served as Minister of Sports under former President Goodluck Jonathan. He is also said to be a stooge to the Senate Presdent, Bukola Saraki.

The embattled Deputy National Publicity Secretary, of the party, Timi Frank, tried but failed to act in that capacity.

He has taken the party to court when it announced that he has been suspended.

It was however gathered that the leadership of the APC had concluded the plans to elect another spokesman from the North-Central geopolitical zone, with Kwara State emerging the preferred candidate.

The source said Abdullahi might emerge the new spokesman for the APC at a mini-convention expected to hold at the New Chelsea Hotel, Abuja at 11am.

It was also confirmed that delegates from only the six states of North-Central would attend the convention, while the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, members of the National Working Committee as well as governors from the states were billed to attend the convention.

APC Crises Festers As Spokesman Drags Party To Court
The numerous crises bedeviling the ruling All Progressives Congress APC seems to have no taste of end as the embattled deputy national publicity secretary of , Comrade Timi Frank, has filed a suit challenging the party over his suspension and alleged moves to expel him.

Frank, told journalists yesterday in Abuja, that he remained the acting spokesperson of the APC.

Frank said he approached the court to seek redress after the refusal of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to react to his letters, citing relevant sections of the party’s constitution on why he has right to act as the spokesperson of the party.

He said: “I have tried to resolve this crisis internally. I’ve said before I was going to seek legal redress. That step has been taken. I did everything possible to resolve the crisis. But there was no response from Chief John Odigie-Oyegun. But I’ve approached the court to seek legal redress.

“If I can write two letters and there was no response, I have no other option than to take my case to the judiciary and I believe by the grace of God, I’ll be vindicated. This is the only step I can take to fight for my fundamental human right.

“Now that this matter is before the court, I still remain the acting publicity secretary of the party. If there’s anybody to be suspended from APC, it should be Oyegun not me,” he added.

Frank, in his prayers, is seeking “an order to restrain the respondents (Oyegun and the APC) by themselves, committees, officers, agents, servants, privies or howsoever called from suspending and/or otherwise taking any other disciplinary action against him as a member of the APC pending the hearing and determination of the substantive originating summons.”

BREAKING: APC Sets To EXPEL National Spokesman, Timi Frank Over Anti-Oyegun Comments

BREAKING: APC Sets To EXPEL National Spokesman, Timi Frank Over Anti-Oyegun Comments

Timi Frank
The Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, may be expelled soon from the party following the recommendations by a committee set up to discipline him.

Frank has openly criticized the leadership style of John Oyegun, national chairman of the party, and called for his resignation

On October 26, when the disciplinary committee was inaugurated, Solomon Edoja, its chairman, promised that due process would be followed.

“We will soon invite him to state his own side of the story. We are also going to invite the petitioner because the legal procedure is that you have to hear from both sides before you can reach the decision,” he had said.

“We are going to subject our recommendation to the zonal executive committee for ratification. But, be that as it may, the APC wants to tell the world that the party is supreme, our constitution is supreme, and if there are infractions, we have to follow due process to attain whatever petition that comes before us.”

Frank, who described the panel as the “handiwork of my national chairman”, said he might not appear before it.

“I will only appear before a committee that will be constituted by respected party members because such a committee will enable me lay my complain about the party and I believe it will do what is right and take my complains to the next level. But how can I appear before a committee that will take its report to Oyegun to decide my fate,” he had said.

“If by tomorrow the committee says then invited me and I refuse to appear and so, they found me guilty, I am ready to face the battle.”

The panel has submitted its report, and in the recommendations signed by all the five members of the committee, the party leadership was advised to suspend Frank immediately, and commence proceedings of expelling him from the party.

“Since the committee is not a father Christmas, it has no choice than to rely on the prima facie evidence tendered upon the petitioner, consequent upon which, the committee hereby recommends as follows;” the report read.

“That Timi Frank be suspended from the party forthwith in line with article 21D (f).

“That zonal executive committee should recommend to the NEC for the expulsion of Timi Frank from the party in line with article 21 D (h) (ii) and (iii).”

The report was submitted to Eta Hilliard, south-south vice-chairman of APC.

Our Party'll Collapse By January UNLESS .... - APC Spokesman
The acting National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Timi Frank on Tuesday warned that unless President Muhammadu Buhari takes urgent action, the ruling party would collapse by January 2017.

He gave this warning in Abuja while appraising recent developments in the party, revealing that several realignments were presently going on in the country which could make the APC cease to exist totally by 2019.

“You are aware that there are several realignments going on now in the country and my party has only now and January 2017 to put its house in order.

“If we don’t harmonize all the contending interests, some of us would be exploring new avenues to pursue our various political agenda,” he said.

Frank said the only way to rescue the party would be for the president to intervene and support calls for the resignation of Chief John Odigie-Oyegun as the national chairman of the APC.

He reminded the President of how Chief Odigie-Oyegun as chairman of ANPP frustrated him (Buhari) out of the party, forcing him to go and form the defunct Congress for Progressive Change CPC.

“The same thing is now happening in the APC and Mr President has to act fast because that same thing that drove him out of the ANPP then is also about to drive some people out of the APC because of Oyegun,” he stated.

Frank who claimed he was speaking the mind of most members and other stakeholders of the party, asserted that “at the appropriate time, more leaders of the party would speak out”.

He said he would soon write formally to the President and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, as well as the leadership of the National Assembly to seek their audience in other to adequately brief them on the circumstances that have necessitated the calls for Odigie-Oyegun’s resignation.

“I will also consult the governors (of our party) to make them understand the danger inherent in their silence in the face of the wave of crisis that has enveloped the party.

“This is like a rescue mission I am about to embark on. This struggle to rescue our party is not personal. It is because I love this party so much and I am a very loyal party man and I believe in this party.

“I am also going to pay a visit to our former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; I will also visit Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all the past national chairmen that made the merger to work. I am going to pay visit to my own former national chairman, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, of the then New PDP, Chief Bisi Akande of the then ACN, Chief Ogbonnaya Onu of the then ANPP, Chief Tony Momoh of defunct CPC and Gov Rochas Okorocha who led a section of the APGA to make the APC. This visit is one that I will start anytime soon,” he said.

The acting spokesman of the party explained that he decided to first visit Baraje “since he was the chairman of the New PDP that led us to join the APC”.

Ondo APC Brouhaha: More Trouble As NWC Members Queue Behind Tinubu Against Oyegun, Demand His RESIGNATION

Ondo APC Brouhaha: More Trouble As NWC Members Queue Behind Tinubu Against Oyegun, Demand His RESIGNATION

APC John Odigie-Oyegun
The Daily Sun - If all things go as planned, some members of the All Progressives  Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC) will demand will demand the resignation of National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

The demand is against his alleged role in the party’s Ondo governorship primary.

The planned move may take place during the party’s NWC meeting  slated for today or Wednesday, against the backdrop of minutes of its emergency meetings on September 20 and 22,  as well as other documents detailing  how the APC leadership settled for Chief Rotimi Akeredolu as the party’s governorship candidate.

APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Timi Frank confirmed that some NWC members will demand Oyegun’s resignation during the meeting over the handling of Ondo primaries.

“I can confirm to you that some NWC members will revolt against the chairman; they will demand he quits his office. I also know that some NWC members who are on his side will reject the demand”, he told Daily Sun.

Frank also issued a statement asking Oyegun to publish minutes of the NWC meeting where the decision to back Akeredolu was taken.

“Chief Oyegun should tell the world why he brushed aside the suggestion of National Youth Leader, Hon. Dasuki Jalo, who suggested that the party should submit an interim name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) pending the time a political solution will be find to the matter. But, Oyegun and few others who benefitted from the corruption that produced Akeredolu as governorship candidate of our party did not see wisdom in what the national youth leader said.

“Chief Oyegun’s few responses to the many of allegations raised by our leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu can never hold water. For example, the chairman and his cohorts contradicted themselves when Oyegun said there was no voting at all but he forgot that National Vice chairman, Hilliard Eta told newsmen that there was voting, which was in agreement with the position of the party’s South-west National Vice Chairman, Chief Pius Akinyelure, who also said that the NWC members actually voted on the Ondo State Governorship Appeal Panel Report.

“This was what Oyegun said in his statement: “Also, voting on the issue became unnecessary and never took place in view of the NWC’s rejection of the Appeal Committee’s report.”

However, minutes of the two meetings obtained by Daily Sun, as well as other documents on the primary showed who and who voted for and against the submission for of Akeredolu’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the flag-bearer of the party.

The first NWC emergency meeting was attended by 15 members. They were Oyegun, his deputy (South), Segun Oni, his deputy (North), Senator Lawal Shuaibu, National Secretary, Mai Mala Buni, Zonal vice chairmen- Emmanuel Eneukwu, Prince Hilliard Etagbo Eta, Pius Akinyelure and Mallam Zakari Idde.

Others included National Treasurer, Alhaji Bala Mohammed Gwagwarwa, National Organising Secretary, Osita Izunaso, National Auditor, George Moghalu, National Financial Secretary, Tajudeen Olaotan Bello, National Youth Leader, Ibrahim Dasuki Jalingo and Deputy National Secretary, Ohi Ngofa.

The duo of Dr. Muniz Banire and Hajiya Tijjani Aliyu, National Legal Adviser and National Women Leader, respectively, were absent.

The party officials spoke extensively on the contentious delegate lists and resolved that “in order to establish the truth regarding the delegates list and, in line with the suggestion made by the National Vice Chairman (South South), the meeting resolved that the Izunaso should circulate the two contentious delegates list to the NWC members the following day.

“This will enable members ascertain the level of disparity and whether it has the tendency  of substantially affecting the outcome of the primary…”

The members anchored their position on the ground that “the Appeal Committee failed to invite the National Secretariat  to authenticate or otherwise disclaim the source of the disputed  delegates list as the custodian.

“The Appeal Committee failed to invite the Chairman or members of the Ondo State governorship primary election committee to clarify on the allegation of manipulation on the accreditation process. It rather chose to rely on unsubstantiated evidence (s) of probably procured witnesses as basis for the nullification of the primary.

“The NWC observed a serious contradiction in the Appeal Committee’s report in respect of the number of the accredited delegates. Whereas the primary Election Committee’s report indicated 2,774 delegates were accredited , the appeal committee’s report erroneously recorded it as those who voted in the election, thereby creating false impression of over voting in the exercise.

An official of the party who declined to be named said the decision to endorse Akeredolu as the party’s candidate was not foisted on the party by the leadership.

He submitted that the resolution of the NWC and the advice of the National Legal Adviser was instrumental to the decision taken by the leadership.

Part of Banire’s recommendation indicated that, “the test used by the Appeal Committee is never used in the determination of issues. As stated by the committee, there were also positive reports that equally believed the credible nature of the process endears us to the populace. The reason why such perceptive positions are never applied in this situation leaves much to be desired.

“Finally, the rule of election is that once there is substantial compliance, the election must be upheld. This much the Appeal Committee agreed with but, suddenly, somersaulted for reasons best known to it.

“ The delegates’ list, from my opening submission, is valid and emanated from proper custody. The process of conducting the election was robust but the Appeal Committee relied on other extraneous issues which are spurious.”

Remember How Oyegun Frustrated You Out Of ANPP - APC Spokesman Writes Buhari Again, Demands Oyegun's Resignation

Remember How Oyegun Frustrated You Out Of ANPP - APC Spokesman Writes Buhari Again, Demands Oyegun's Resignation

APC Spokesman Writes Buhari Again, Demands Oyegun's Resignation
The acting national publicity of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Timi Frank, has written another open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, demanding the immidiate resignation of his national chairman Chief John Oyegun.

He warned in the latest letter that if Oyegun is allowed to continue as chairman, APC will soon witness massive defection to opposition party which he believe will affect the fortunes of the party in future elections.

In an open letter dated 02/10/2016, addressed to President Buhari was titled “an urgent  appeal to save our party”, Frank said since APC came to power and started having problems, Oyegun led National Working Committee (NWC) has not been able to resolve any.

He also reminded President Buhari of his (Buhari) experience in the defunct All Nigerians Peoples Party (ANPP) under Oyegun as the national chairman which he said led to Buhari’ exit from the party.

“Chief Oyegun has shown that he lacks the capacity to resolve all the crisis currently rocking our party in nearly all the states of the federation. Not even personal grudges and rifts between party members, eg Senator Shehu Sani vs Gov. El rufai in Kaduna, or Senator Kwankwaso vs Gov Ganduje in Kano, Senator Goje vs Senator Nafada in Gombe, and lastly the rift between late Chief Audu’s family against  Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi state .

The crisis rocking the Bayelsa state APC which is also divided against itself as well as Delta, Ondo and Ogun states are visible examples to mention a few.

“Mr. President sir, I’m aware you may not have forgotten hurriedly your experience under Chief Oyegun’s chairmanship in the defunct All Nigerians People’s Party (ANPP) that eventually led to the series of events which saw your exit from the party, and this same man is at it again.

“It is said that ‘A stitch in time saves nine’. I recall how we raised similar concerns when the PDP was still PDP under Alhaji Bamanga Tukur. This warnings were of no effect even as things got worse daily, suffice to say that the appeal from party leaders to former President Jonathan to act yielded no result as he acted rather late and the result is the very obvious which is still bedevilling the PDP up until this day.

“It is no longer news today that so many leaders of the APC are aggrieved as a result of the handling of party affairs by Chief John Oyegun. Injustice has become an order of the day, whilst so many leaders and party faithfuls might be contemplating an exit of the party if nothing is being done urgently to salvage the already soar taste. I’m aware that in a swift reaction to Sen Bola Tinubu’s outburst, former Vice President and chieftain of the APC Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, pointed out vividly that the party leadership is expected to be guided always by respect for the rules, fairness, equity, neutrality and respect for democratic consensus. We must therefore be bold to say that these principles may not be found in the dictionary of Chief Oyegun.”

Resignation Call By Tinubu: Oyegun Fights Back
The Daily Sun - National Chairman,  the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun is fighting back following an allegation by the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, that he manipulated the September 3, 2016 Ondo State governorship primary. The election produced Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) as the party’s candidate.
Odigie-Oyegun said yesterday that most of Tinubu’s accusations are untrue.
Tinubu had in a statement sent out by his media office on Sunday called on the APC chair to resign, among other things. Odigie-Oyegun said he would meet with President Muhammadu Buhari before he would fully reply Tinubu.
Tinubu accused Odigie-Oyegun of colluding with mercenary forces to derail democracy and the change promised Nigerians.
Tinubu specifically said the APC chairman connived with some dark forces to rig the delegates’ list used for the September 3, primary of the party won by Akeredolu. The statement detailed how Odigie-Oyegun allegedly conspired against the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), disregarded majority decision on a fresh primary and sneaked out of a meeting to submit Akeredolu’s name as the APC candidate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The NWC, acting on the recommendations of its Appeals Committee, allegedly voted six to five, in favour of cancellation of the primary, citing fraud in the delegates list.
“…Odigie-Oyegun has done the irredeemable,” Tinubu said.
Speaking in Benin yesterday, Odigie-Oyegun said he would not fully respond to the allegations until after the governorship election in Edo State, even as he explained that most of the things said against him were not true.
“Asiwaju is a well respected leader of our party so, I cannot be seen speaking evil against him. I have to consult properly with other leaders of the party before we make any definite statement. Again, you know we have a crucial election here in Edo which is my priority right now.
“We don’t want to lose focus and I know Asiwaju also want us to win because we all have worked hard for this. So, maybe after the election, if there is need, I will speak; if (there is) no need, I will relax. But, all I can say now is that most of the things said in the papers about me are not true. I have always believed in internal democracy, that the credibility of primaries must be taken seriously.
“I believe that if primaries of parties are not credible, it may derail any democracy so, I don’t play with these things at all. Everybody knows me and I don’t joke with my credibility and I have tried to maintain it. Like I said, Asiwaju is our leader and we all hold him in high esteem, so, I will never join issues with him.
“But may be after Edo elections, after we must have emerged victorious, we may speak on some of the issues raised. So, there is no problem at all. Edo is the focus for now and as you know this is my state so it is a very serious election for us. So, I want to be allowed to remain focus then after the election, we can speak”, he said.
Daily Sun, however, gathered on Monday evening that although Odigie-Oyegun perused Tinubu’s 25-paragraph statement same day it was released, any action or full response will wait till after he has done two things: Meet with the President and conclusion of Edo State governorship election tomorrow. He was governor of the state on the platform of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Reacting to Tinubu’s outbust, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on anti-corruption, Prof Itse Sagay (SAN), yesterday urged top APC leaders to resolve the crisis threatening to tear the party apart after its governorship primary  in Ondo State.
Sagay urged the leadership of the party not to do anything that would jeopardise the interest of the APC, saying the crisis should be resolved quietly by the top hierarchy of the party.
His words: “The way I feel about it is that it is a matter that the highest officers of the party should handle. It is not something to be made public. It should not be for the consumption of the public. They should make it a totally in-house matter. They should try and resolve it quietly.”
On whether it is the beginning of the end of the APC, he said: “I hope not. The people involved are very mature men and they know the struggle it took to establish the party. I do not think they would do anything that would jeopardise the continued existence of a party that is actually in power. So, it should just be an in-house thing”.
Also reacting, Lagos APC Publicity Secretary, Joe Igbokwe, cautioned that the party should not toe the line of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He said some of the things that happened in the Ondo primary were similar issues that led to the fall of the PDP in the last general election.
“When you practise impunity, injustice, denying people their rights to pick a candidate of their choice, it is a problem. This is what the PDP did and you know where it left the party today.
“I was one of the seven-man committee that screened the 24 governorship aspirants in the APC primary election in Ondo State and we did not disqualify anyone of them. We wanted a transparent process because that is what the APC is known for but it did not happen. We had better go back and correct the situation because if we do the same thing the PDP did, we would go down the same way”, he said.
On his part, APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Timi Frank, has given Odigie-Oyegun, a 14-day ultimatum to convene an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to clean the mess.
Frank urged the President to intervene in the crisis. He warned that he has started the process of mobilising other NEC members for the emergency meeting, warning that they would ground the secretariat with protesters should Odigie-Oyegun fail to convene the meeting.
Fielding questions from journalists in Abuja, Frank, who noted that Tinubu’s call has vindicated his persistent demand, maintained that the party is heading for disaster with Oyegun’s continuation.
According to him; “If Odigie-Oyegun knows that what Ahmed Bola Tinubu has said is not true, I’m challenging him to immediately call for an emergency NEC meeting for us to sit face to face and tell ourselves where we are getting it wrong because if we cannot resolve this crisis now, we cannot resolve it again.
“None of the resolutions we reached at during the last NEC meeting was implemented. I am giving Odigie-yegun 14 days to convene an emergency NEC meeting and if he fails, we will mobilise protesters that will ground the secretariat,” he said.
Meanwhile, less than 24 hours after Tinubu squealed against what he called the high handedness of the  NWC led by Odigie-Oyegun, his anointed candidate in the controversial primary, Olusegun Abraham and certain aggrieved aspirants, who lost the ticket to Akeredolu are smarting to dump the ruling party for an alternative platform, Daily Sun can authoritatively reveal.
Following the rejection of recommendations of the three-member Election Appeal Committee chaired by Mrs. Helen Bendega, which called for cancellation of the poll that produced Akeredolu and the submission of his name to INEC by the national chairman, the trio of Olusola Oke, Olusegun Abraham and Senator Ajayi Borrofice, have struck a deal with Tinubu to move into an alternative platform ahead of the November election.
A party source revealed that in the deal in which Tinubu is the alleged mastermind, the former PDP governorship candidate, Oke, who enjoyed the backing of Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola in the controversial primary, would emerge as the candidate of the Action Alliance (AA)  while Abraham would be his running mate.
The source further revealed that Senator Borrofice would be compensated with a return ticket to the Senate in 2019 general elections.
The AA candidate for the November election, Orokoto who is an ally of Oke, had been taken into confidence in the unfolding power game.
Recall that the APC’s NWC had overruled Mrs. Helen Bendega-led appeal panel report which recommended the cancellation of the primary that produced Akeredolu and sought for a fresh primary.
The panel premised its decision on the alleged irregularities in the list of delegates at the exercise chaired by Jigawa State Governor Badaru Abubakar.
But the Odigie-Oyegun-led NWC in throwing away the panel report said it “was fundamentally and fatally flawed.”
The party leadership said that the appeal committee contradicted itself when it admitted that the primary election committee substantially complied with the rules guiding the process but still proceeded to recommend the nullification of the primary election.
It further frowned at the failure of the appeal committee to invite the National Secretariat to either authenticate or reject the source of the disputed delegates list as the custodian.
It also expressed consternation that the appeal committee, did not invite the chairman or members of the Ondo State Governorship Primary Election Committee to clarify the allegation of manipulation on the accreditation process.
The party said the committee rather relied on unsubstantiated evidence to recommend the nullification of the primary.
The NWC equally observed a serious contradiction in the appeal committee’s report in respect of the number of the accredited delegates.
“Whereas the primary election committee’s report indicated that 2,774 delegates were accredited, the appeal committee’s report erroneously recorded it as those who voted in the election, thereby creating a false impression of over voting in the exercise.”
The party, therefore, stressed that the issue of fresh primaries did not arise since the NWC had already rejected the appeal committee’s report in view of the stated flaws and upheld the election.
It further explained that the election was even time barred, saying by the timetable released by INEC, all governorship primary and issues relating to it ended on September 19, 2016
Tinubu, A Respected Leader, Can't Speak Bad Of Him - Oyegun Breaks Silence Over Resignation Call

Oyegun and tinubu
The national chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has finally broken silence over call be by a former Lagos State Governor and the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign over the raging crisis that followed Ondo gubernatorial primary election.

Tinubu had, in a statement on Sunday, accused the national chairman of allegedly working against the ideals of the APC in the handling of its governorship primary in Ondo State.

He had alleged that the National Working Committee of the APC had voted in favour of a fresh primary in Ondo State but Odigie-Oyegun overruled the NWC and submitted the name of Rotimi Akeredolu to the Independent National Electoral Commission as the governorship candidate of the APC.

The statement added, “If Tinubu is to choose between John (Odigie-) Oyegun and progress toward a better Nigeria, the choice has already been made. For those who care about Nigeria and its chance for a better tomorrow, now is the time to stand against this brewing evil before it grows to encompass all we have built and all we hold dear.”

But Odigie-Oyegun, who spoke on Monday in Benin, said Tinubu, a former Lagos State governor, was a respected leader in the party, adding that he would have to consult with other party leaders before making a statement.

He, however, said “most” of the allegations in the media report were “not true,” noting that the party would focus on the September 28 governorship election in Edo State, which he said was his “priority”.

He said, “Asiwaju is a well respected leader of our party; so, I cannot be seen speaking evil against him. I have to consult properly with other leaders of the party before we make any definite statement. Again, you know we have a crucial election here in Edo, which is my priority right now.

“We do not want to lose focus and I know Asiwaju also wants us to win because we all have worked hard for this. So, maybe, after the election, if there is need, I will speak. If (there is) no need, I will relax. But all I can say now is that most of the things said in the papers about me are not true.”

Odigie-Oyegun stated that he had always believed in internal democracy and the credibility of primaries, which must be taken seriously.

The former Edo State governor added, “I believe that if primaries of parties are not credible, it may derail any democracy.  So, I do not play with these things at all. Everybody knows me and I do not joke with my credibility and I have tried to maintain it.’’

“But maybe after Edo election, after we must have emerged victorious, we may speak on some of the issues raised. So, there is no problem at all.”

It was learnt that Odigie-Oyegun came under serious pressure on Monday not to respond to Tinubu’s call on him to resign as the APC national chairman.

The outburst of Tinubu was said to have confirmed the internal wrangling in the ruling party.

However, Odigie-Oyegun, who was said to have been seriously jolted by Tinubu’s accusation, was said to have been prevailed on by some ministers and governors from the APC not to respond to Tinubu’s attack.

A minister, who spoke on condition of anonymity with The PUNCH in Abuja, said he, along with some of his colleagues, had called the party chairman not to speak.

He said while it was true that the former governor of Lagos State had every reason to be embittered, allowing the party chairman to respond would further portray the ruling party as uncoordinated.

The top party chief stated, “Though it is painful when you are accused of something and you feel you needed to reply, but we have told him to keep quiet because we don’t want the opposition and the media to feast on it.

“The matter is being looked into and I think the leaders of the party, especially President Muhammadu Buhari, must act fast, otherwise, the party will die under his Presidency.”
