Lagos lawmaker, Sola Giwa, Celebrates 300 Days In Office With 4-Days Free Medical Treatments At Constituency
A lawmaker representing Lagos Island Constituency II at Lagos State House of Assembly has further shown his passion and service to the people of his constituency by offering them a-four-day free medical treatments of various ailment.
The free health treatments which took place at four strategic different centres across his constituency saw many people treated for various ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, Malaria and so on.
The centres, where medical treatment took place were; Anikantamo multipurpose Hall, campus mini stadium, Lafiaji community centre and Eleganza Sports Centre respectively.
Speaking with NewsPunch correspondent at the event, Hon Sola Giwa said the exercise was borne out of his passion and love for his people. He said the programme is aimed at not just treating the people without any charge but to also educate them on the right attitude to ensuring good health always.
He said; "The exercise is aimed at motivating the people to live healthy by eating the right amount of vitamins, having enough rest, drinking enough water, and exercising. Also to kick against self-medication"
"Once you notice anything strange visit the closest primary health post to you before going to the general hospital. "It is not enough to encourage by word of mouth, we have to take to the streets to motivate by our presence and actions" - Sola Giwa. the
Hon. Sola Giwa believes that through this sensitization awareness programme, there will be a decline in the rate of sicknesses and morbidity by 25% at Lagos Island II.
Over 800 peoples were screened and treated, while some with very high sugar level and blood pressure went home with glucometer machine and digital blood pressure machine for self monitoring from time to time.
A small card was given to everyone to monitor their blood pressure and sugar level from time to time whenever they visit the hospital/PHCs.
Dignitaries present at the programmes includes; the elders forum, Alhaja Ajose, Alhaja Jaji, Alhaji Sodiq, Kamal Bashua, Alhaji W.O. Jawando, representatives from the Lagos Island East Local Government, a representative of the member representing Lagos Island II at the House of Representative Hon. Yakub Balogun, ward leaders, youth leaders and the community
It was indeed a success as the Nigerian diabetes online community along side 12basket supported this programme.
