As the race to the 2019 general elections hots up, one of the proposed mega parties, the National Unity Party (NUP) on Tuesday unveiled its agenda to banish abject poverty in the land saying that it was out to eradicate suffering in the country.
The Party which had already registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared that it intended to work with the new American Government to make a better and good governance in Nigeria if voted into power come 2019.
Addressing Party members yesterday in Abuja while launching its Constitution, Manifesto and membership Cards, the Party’s National Chairman, Chief Perry Opara, also decried the rising spate of religious and ethnic intolerance as well as economic hardship in the country and vowed to address the raging malaise when they take over power in 2019.
Opara, flanked by Clerics who had earlier predicted the formation of the Party and Chieftains of the Party lamented the economic backwardness in the country as being reflected in the exchange rate between the Dollar and to Naira, saying “Nigeria is moving backward.”
According to him, “What we need in Nigeria is to unite. We have more strength in unity than division. I do know that if we unite we will do better. What we also need is good governance.”
While declaring that a new world order had come to Nigeria ahead of 2019, in the mould of Donald Trump’s emergence as President of United States, he said “we will usher in a Nigeria new Nigeria where there is freedom, no more hardship, and economic development.
“We are in a new world political order, times are changing. God will take over Nigeria. I speak with no fear or favour, I don’t look at people’s face, height or size. God that brought back Unity Party will make us win in 2019”, he added.
Opara, a former member of the Peoples of Democratic Party, PDP stated that while the Party participated in last year’s governorship election in Ondo State to ascertain its registration as a Political party, it would contest the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State this year.
“We contested in Ondo State governorship election not to win but to fine tune our registration process. But in the Anambra election we shall participate and make a difference”, he stated
Opara who pointed that would operate an open door policy to despite ideological differences promised that all the new political Parties willing to join the new NUP “will become part owners of the mega party structure that they are building”.
He said the only condition to be a member of the Party which had already established its presence in the 36 states of the Federation and Abuja was the payment of N200 for the Party’s membership Card.
