CRUTECH Alumni Cautions Freshers Against Cultism, Indecent Dressing

CRUTECH Alumni Cautions Freshers Against Cultism, Indecent Dressing

Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH)
Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) alumni association  has cautioned new students against indecent dressing or joining any secret society.

The President of the association, Mr. Eyam Abeng said this over the weekend during an orientation program organized in collaboration with the management for freshers in Faculty of Management and Applied Basic Medical Sciences in Ogoja and Okuku campuses of the institution.

Abeng who warned that any act capable of damaging the reputation of the institution would not be treated with levity advised the new students to always take their studies seriously as the university was not a play ground for unserious people.

The President who disclosed that the association has completed plans to start up a program code name "Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow" pledged to work with the management to ensure improved standard of learning in the institution.

He added that the association intends to use the program to mentor the students and train them in different vocational skills to be useful to themselves throughout their stay in the university and after graduation.

According to him, "My message to you this morning is simple; join cult or dress indecently and graduate in year one. CRUTECH is not a play ground or some sort of social environment where people go to exhibit all manners of irresponsible lifestyle. You should thank your God that you're in one of the best universities in the world and you must uphold the virtues that makes the university what it is today.

"We decided to be part of this year's orientation to help the management highlight the achievements of this institution to you. It's not just about being here, you need to understand why you're here, your purpose, mission, objectives and vision. We are here as a practical example of the success story of this great institution.

"Many people out there including those who are supposed to market this university have erroneously held that we're half baked. Without trying to be prideful, I work in the oil sector. I didn't get the job through any recommendation. It was purely on merit. My deputy is an Assistant Manger in in the apex bank in Nigeria, we have officers in the army, navy customs, police. We're everywhere.

"If we made it this far despite the fact that our condition of learning was not as good as what you have today, you can do exploit if you know why you're here. I urge you to work hard and shun any social vices that will make you end this journey halfway".

Also speaking, the immediate past President of the association, David Mbotor charged the students to be mindful of the kind of people the associate with.

Mbotor said that " Entering or matriculating into institution of higher learning is not a guarantee that you would graduate after four or five years. Some are here to read while others came here to enjoy the so called campus-life. To remain focus and achieve your goal, you must be mindful of the kind of friends you keep".

Commending the alumni on behalf of the management for playing pivotal role in the program, the Dean and head of Okuku campus, Prof. Attah Etim said that "As a management, we are ready to help all our students succeed. But anybody who wants to graduate in year one, year two or third year, the university is ready too to help such people.

"We have taken time to tell you everything you need to know about the university. The dos and don'ts but we won't hesitate to punish anybody that does anything contrary to the laws of the university. We are committed to training and producing graduates who will be good ambassadors of this institution".
