Don't Join APC To Move Nigeria Forward - 'Wounded' Fani-Kayode Urges Nigerians

Femi Fani-Kayode
Mindlessly saying Nigeria should not move forward, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation has enjoined Nigerians not to join the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in it bid to 'move Nigeria forward'.

Angered as at an individual whom he allegedly said made a false quote credited to him on facebook today, Fani-Kayode said;

"There is a sick individual on fb who has posted some rubbish and attributed it to me. He quoted me as saying the following:
" I think what is appropriate for us(PDP) is to apologize to President Buhari and the APC, then join them to move Nigeria forward"-Femi Fani-Kayode."
"Kindly note that this is FALSE. It is a total fabrication. I never said any such thing privately or publicly and neither have I ever written it or published it anywhere."
"These are desperate and despicable tactics being employed to gather support for themselves by a desperate and despicable government."
"I remain totally committed to opposing the Buhari administration and the APC and I would NEVER suggest to anyone to " join them to move Nigeria forward".

Fani-Kayode, who was recently granted bail and released Friday night, has vowed to fight on.

Edo Governorship: INEC Defies Court Order, REJECTS Sheriff's Candidate

Despite a ruling by an Abuja High Court that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC shouls accept and recognise on gubernatorial candidate from the Ali Modu Sheriff led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the INEC, instead rejected the name of the candidates submitted for the governorship election of Edo State by the Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the party.

The Deputy Director in charge of Publicity and Voters’ Education at the commission’s headquarters, Mr. Nick Dazang, in a text message Punch Newspaper said INEC decided to reject the list based on the fact that it did not monitor the primary that produced the faction’s governorship candidate, Mr. Matthew Iduoriyekwemwen.

Meanwhile the commission had confirmed that it has accepted the name submitted by the Chairman of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, Ahmed Makarfi.

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is the candidate of the Makarfi-led faction of the party.

The two factions had on Monday submitted names of their governorship candidates for the state to the to the commission.

He said that the commission had received the names of governorship candidates from 18 other political parties, apart from the PDP.

He said, “As of this evening, we have received 19 candidates from 19 political parties for the Edo governorship  election.

“These include the candidate of the Makarfi-led faction of the PDP. We received the candidate of the Makarfi-led faction because of the Port Harcourt court judgement plus the fact that we monitored its primaries.”

2019: Saraki, PDP Cohorts In Secret Plot To Float New Party, Mass Defection; APC Jittery

SARAKI AND DINO MELAYE
Fear has REPORTEDLY enveloped the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC leadership as it uncovered an alleged secret move by the embattled President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, his loyalists in the party and some opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to form a new party in preparation for the 2019 general elections.

Reported monitored via New Telegraph Newspaper suggests that discussions are ongoing between some disgruntled members of the APC and their PDP counterparts on either the formation of a new party completely or an alliance that would see a mass defection from the APC.

Also, there are accusations and counter-accusations between the Ali Modu Sher- iff camp and the Ahmed Makarfi Committee in the PDP of working for a certain chieftain of the APC in 2019.

Our source said the APC hierarchy is disturbed that its members, who head the two arms of government, are yet to close ranks and work as a team more than a year after the party was elected into power. A chieftain of the APC who revealed the worries of the party leadership, said the party was running out of time and risks rejection at the next general elections, except it puts its house in order and deliver on its promises to the people.

However it was learnt that the APC national leadership was looking for a political solution to resolve the crisis even as he blamed the wrangling on interest and the executive’s interference in the affairs of the legislature.

Saraki, who is a member of the ruling party, is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for alleged false declaration of assets as well as facing another trial at the Federal High Court alongside his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu of the PDP over alleged forgery of the Senate rules.

The Senate President has pleaded not guilty to both charges and many had expected that the party hierarchy would step in and possibly broker an out-of-court settlement as Saraki has persistently claimed that politics was responsible for his ordeal.

But the rift has continued to fester and is assuming a more dangerous dimension. During the last Ramadan period, President Muhammadu Buhari had hosted different classes of people, including party leaders, business moguls,  physically challenged persons and friends of the government, among others. But his planned breaking of fast with members of the National Assembly and their leaders was cancelled for no known reasons.

While the presidency held that the dinner was just postponed, sources at the National Assembly said that the legislators simply refused to attend, owing to what they perceived as the persecution of Saraki and Ekweremadu.

Similarly, the Senate has stalled the confirmation of the list of ambassadorial nominees submitted by the president on the pretence that some states were not represented on the list and some other irregularities that ranged from promotion of junior officers above senior one to other sundry issues.

The Senate rather invited the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Babachir Lawal, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, to appear before it this week.

There have been hot exchanges of words between the Senate President, his deputy and the Presidency in the past one month, with accusations and rebuttals that the country was sliding into dictatorship. Decrying this development, a member of the National Assembly added that the crisis, which has made the people to perceive the APC as not ready for governance, was being worsened by the delay in the implementation of the 2016 Budget. According to him, implementation of the budget is unlikely to commence until November due to bureaucratic issues.

He said: “The leadership of the APC is worried that the lack of cohesion by the party’s elected members are still leaning on their old party blocs, which have practically made it impossible to see themselves as members of one family.

“You will recall that APC is a merger of various interests ahead of the 2015 elections, but having won the presidential election as well as the majority in both houses of the National Assembly, many had expected that the various interests would have closed ranks by now and work as team to deliver the promises the party made to Nigerians during the campaigns for the last elections.

“This development is a source of worry for the party leadership, although it is putting measures in place to resolve it so that the party can focus on governance and deliver on its promises. The fear is that we are running out of time, even as the nation’s earnings have drastically dropped due to the fall in oil prices at the international market.”

On Saraki’s prosecution, the source said while the belief is that the APC is hounding him because he defied the party’s leadership to emerge as President of the Senate, it should be noted that the present administration has persistently said that its war against corruption is total.

His words: “I agree that politics is a game of interest. So, I cannot dismiss those who are saying that the Senate President is being persecuted because he defied the APC leadership during the election for presiding officers of the Senate, but one thing we must bear in mind is that the present administration has never pretended that there would be no sacred cows in the fight against corruption.”

Abuja Court SACKS PDP Chairman, Makarfi

An Abuja High Court has sacked the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ahmed Makarfi

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja reaffirmed Ali Modu Sheriff as chairman and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, with an attendant order for the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC to accord him the necessary recognition by accepting his nominees for the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, Daily Sun reports this morning

An enrolment order of the court in suit FHC/ABJ/CS/SC/2016, brought before him, the judge stated that the Ahmed Makarfi Caretaker Committee lacks legitimacy in the eyes of the law, and cannot take any action on behalf of the PDP.

Justice Abang who had earlier asked Makarfi’s lawyers to leave his court had noted that the circumstances of Makarfi’s emergence as a caretaker chairman of the PDP was both suspicious and in breach of earlier court orders.

While making references to earlier court rulings of May 12 and 20, 2016, as having foreclosed the emergence of new set of leaders for the party, Justice Abang stressed that Senator Ali Modu Sheriff remains the lawful chairman.

The judge ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to accept nominations of candidates for the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states from the Sheriff leadership and not from any other person or persons or their proxies.

PDP Crisis: Sheriff 'SEIZES' Party's Bank Accounts, Reveals His '2019 Agenda'

PDP Crisis: Sheriff 'SEIZES' Party's Bank Accounts, Reveals His '2019 Agenda'
The embattled national and factional chairman of the Opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff may have seized the party's bank accounts from the reach of the Ahmed Makarfi-led national caretaker committee.

This disclosure was made by Sheriff on Thursday at a press briefing in Abuja stating he and the treasurer under the sacked National Working Committee, NWC, are the signatories to the party’s bank account. He further stressed that his team and not the Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee is signatory to the party’s account.

He said, “Myself and the Treasurer who is also a member of the NWC are signatories to the bank accounts of the PDP. Makarfi may also open another account in the name of his caretaker committee if he wished.

“There is only one PDP, which is the one under my leadership. Anyone who thinks the Makarfi contraption can work is deceiving himself. I am the only chairman of the PDP recognised by the courts, the constitution and the Electoral Act.”

The embattled leader also criticised the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose over his public conduct, describing it as shameful.

Sheriff denied report sthat he wanted to run for President, stressing that he didn’t promise anybody the Vice President’s slot.

He was reacting to Fayose’s comment that he was sacked as the National leader of the opposition party because he was scheming for the 2019 presidential ticket and was allegedly teasing some party chieftains with the slot of the Vice Presidential candidate.

“I am ashamed at the way and manner Fayose is conducting himself in the country. I was once a governor; so, I know that the position of governor is a very serious one that demands responsible behaviour.

“I never told anybody I wanted to run for president and I did not promise anybody the vice presidential ticket. I have decided not to join issues with Fayose.”
